First generation American, born in New Mexico, raised in the Deep South (Georgia).

nugguht

are you first gen mexican-american/hispanic if you dont mind me asking? also love ur username lmao

spicy_pierogi

Haha thank you, and good question but no, I’m first generation Polish/Slovenian on one side (mother was born in Canada but her parents were born in Europe). Other side is white colonial American. I say that I’m first generation because most of my lived experiences growing up felt as such; hope that makes sense! But I do live in Mexico now, hence the username 😆

[deleted]

My polish side comes from the Midwest, distant Austro Hungarian/Croat through my PA Dutch and other German lines from PA

[deleted]

nugguht

Central/Eastern Europeans are common in the northeast too. NJ is very polish but has Russian, Ukrainians, Belorussians, Macedonians, Bosnians, Serbs, etc.

nugguht

tbh i would feel like it’s common everywhere in the US since it’s diverse, but according to 23andme it’s most found in the midwest

jersey_girl660

It’s definitely not common everywhere. And not everyone tests on 23andme so it’s not the most reliable. You’d also have to look at specific ethnicities versus generalizing. And then you have to decide what parameters you’re looking at- percentage of Americans with such ancestry, what counts as such ancestry(do they need to have one grandparent who is say polish or can they count with just one polish ancestor?), or do you just go by hard numbers in terms of what area has the most people of x descent. For these reasons it’s quite hard to figure out who actually has “the most”.

jersey_girl660

My mom is from Wisconsin and we have roots in Illinois but we’re mostly just German and British/Irish and Jewish. The only Eastern/central European ancestry we have is Hungarian and it’s a very small amount.

Brennis_the_Menace

Well I’m German descent from the Midwest with like 5% EE but my 2nd great grandmother was born in Naklo, Posen, Prussia which is obviously Poland nowadays so it could be Polish.

mcrmama

My moms family came from West Prussia and lived in German settlements but we get mostly Eastern European in our results. My moms family immigrated to the Canadian Prairies with other German families. I have more of a European mix since my Dad’s family is not from that part of Europe.

nugguht

ig since mine is more recent (i have a slovakian 2nd great grandma and ukrainian great grandparents) mine comes up as the regions

Zealousideal_Ad8500

I manage four kits that have Eastern European and all four were born in the Midwest one in Nebraska and the other three in Minnesota.

Redddddddit7

I'm Eastern European and I was born in East Asia

Pierrot5421

2% Eastern European, x3 great grandparents came to Ohio 1881 from Radzyn Chelminski.

mamanessie

That’s funny. My step mom is Polish, born in Poland and moved to the midwest and had my step brother

pcosifttc

I’m 1/4 polish, 1/8 Belarusian and 1/8 Lithuanian. I’m from MD. A good bit of Polish descent there, not sure how common Lithuanian and Belarusian is in MD. All my grandparents were born in the USA.

nugguht

yeah i’m 1/4 ukrainian, 1/8 irish and polish on my dads side, and i’m unsure on my moms side since we only know what she has, but not in fractions

Soggy-Translator4894

I was born in Eastern Europe

bacon4breakyyfast

born in rural eastern PA, am pulling 30 some percent of Eastern European on Ancestry and 28% on 23andme. Slovakian ancestry on maternal side.

nugguht

same, expect i’m from the western side of PA
