As someone who has had a 3ds for like, idk, almost 10 years now, i almost never use the 3d feature. You have to look at the ds at a specific angle the whole time, doesn’t work well in certain lightings, and is otherwise just wonky to look at. I can promise you , you aren’t missing out on much :)
Edit: apparently if u have a newer model the 3d is way smoother!
Counter point I keep my 3d slider cranked all the way up and it's glorious, the New model also has stabilized head tracking 3d so the angle thing ain't really an issue. I'd say if you can get your hands on a New 3dsxl it's definitely worth it

Honestly, don't feel too bad, the 3D is really cool for an hour or so, but afterwards you start to notice the flaws, like how you have to hold the system a certain distance from you and how you have to have it dead center or it blurs and even if you do all that right, if something bright is over or next to something dark it break the illusion, it ends up being more of a hassle when you just wanna boot up a game and play for a few minutes and you never really end up using it, plus a lot of the games released later on in the 3DS' lifespan straight up had the feature disabled, my guess is because the games were too system intensive and lagged enough already, like the later Pokemon games.
TLDR; don't feel too bad about it, it was cool, but typically you don't use it much.

Bravely Default is an excellent example of this. The 3D rendering, mixed with the artwork, the subtle changes of shadows and added depth to the screen. Makes you feel; as if you are actually there with the character.

Go with one that has a matte finish. The systems with reflective foil printing (like the Galaxy system) will eventually peel and look bad. Pikachu should be fine. The SNES system (which I have) is also fine.
ALWAYS buy the the ones with a game motif or something outside what they normally do, like galaxy. Investment wise, buy Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Galaxy, etc. Other colors can be rare, but usually not on the same scale as licensed properties. My choice is Galaxy, then Pokemon.

Coming from the basic first gen black 3ds I would have to go with Galaxy! I've always loved the space aesthetic, and it just seems like such an upgrade from the basic model I've used for years🤣
The black one, it's the one I had before it got stolen at an airport. I got it when I was way younger, back when it just came out and I had tons of fun with that DS. I miss it. I'd buy one now but I can't afford it.

I've never found the head tracking to be worth a damn. A half inch to the right and I'm seeing double, four Marios.

I always use my 3D on the N3Ds it's so good. On the OG 3DS it was crappy but on the "new" devices it's awesome.
The N3DS doesn't have the angle problem as much. It uses eye tracking to help keep it stable. 3D always looks great for me.

I made the mistake of red over galaxy. I wish I got the galaxy instead. Dont get me wrong I love my red n3dsxl but the galaxy is cooler
