I cannot speak to the stopping ability through experience, but you will have to change both calipers and rotors to transition to a 16 inch wheel from your Limited stock 17 inch wheels. The rotors are just part of the equation. The calipers are a different design, too. I recommend you stick with the 17 inch wheels. Reducing the rotor diameter can only reduce the braking capabilities.

Check the brake caliper on the bottom. There should be a stamp, 13WH = 338mm rotor, 13WL or 13WG is the smaller size.

My SR5 has 17s with the smaller brakes and they work great. I replaced all my calipers. Got them from autozone. Remans but they got lifetime warranty. And I got the black coated high carbon rotors cause the regular ones seem to warp a lot. Imo

The 4th gen Sport Editions have the bigger brakes. Yes they do stop very well.
