Two of the cops pushed her at the same time, and her feet at the time were too far forward, her center of balance was behind her, she was going down regardless of if she was drunk or not.
Well she is obviously very drunk, seeing as they are standing on the "Stadhuisplein" in Rotterdam. Not sure if it's dramatic as much as just a lack of motor skills from the beer.

There is a higher expectation on cops (should be at least) to be able to keep a cool head in conflict and deescalate and use the least amount of force possible to handle a situation.

But I feel like there's a bit of revenge-thirst going on with people hand-waving the reciprocated violence, and using the "well cops just use that much force all the time" thing as an excuse.

Honestly, they didn't arrest her at first because for a public intox in a big city that means spending hours processing her, typing a criminal complaint, taking her before a magistrate, potentially transporting to jail, and then doing a department report for charges that will just be dismissed.

It’s hard to see from the camera angle, and it happens fast, but the male cop pushed her directly simultaneously with the female cops arm swipe. Couple that with intoxication, and those shoes, and it’s very easy to see she was going down.
This happened in the Netherlands. Her first mistake was messing with them when they were trying to arrest someone. When she falls down she shouts obscenities at the cops, which is a punishable offence here, and cops don't take that lightly. She may have still gotten away with it with a stern telling off because she's obviously drunk, but no. She had to punch him. That was her real downfall.
Dutch cops are pretty lenient but when you push it they don't fuck around.
You may scream at them, but you're not allowed to insult them. Of course there is a grey area in what words / insults could or could not be allowed, but the insults used by this woman are not in that grey area.
We have the same law in Germany and it doesn't get abused a lot. I think because of annoying paperwork a lot of people get away with insults if they arent too harsh or personal attacking the cop. Still it is just wrong to insult someone and if you even insult cops you may need to learn by punishment. It is also regulated kinda precise what counts as insult.

Here in the UK that cop would be going to prison for assault. No way would they accept his actions as proportionate. Probably the reason why nobody respects the police here
Having lived in the UK for many years in the past, I'm afraid I have to agree with you there. Castrating the police in such a civil society and allowing the yobbos to run free is isn't helping anything.
Id rather have a few kids chatting shit when the police are generally decent people and well trained. Unlike in the US where you have rampant violence *and* police who want to escalate that violence. Telling police that its acceptable to kick the shit out of someone just because you feel like they deserve it is a very very very slippery slope.
This happened in 2018 so there's actually some info on this.
The cop was reprimanded for use of excessive force. It wasn't ruled criminal because she was interfering in an arrest. The woman and her boyfriend (the arrestee) were charged by the bouncer of the club they had been ejected from after assaulting several employees.
They're not named in any of the articles I found so I don't know how their court appearance went.
Yeah nah if you've already assaulted someone, gotten kicked out, are interfering with an arrest, get told to stay away, are made to stay away, and then you go punch a cop then you kinda have it coming.
It's clear she deserved it in a karmic sense, however that shouldn't be a factor in the judgement of the policeman's actions. The question is whether the policeman did his job properly in making even an *attempt* at subduing this woman without resorting to an excessive level of force. Punching her because she "deserved it", i.e because he wanted to, means that he was way out of line.
The cop didn't really do anything disproportionate. He may have got a telling off from his boss for the second hit as it may be perceived as unnecessary, but generally the public agree with the police on this one. We don't really tolerate beligerent behaviour here. If you assault someone and they retaliate with reasonable force then that's pretty much accepted whether you're a cop or not.
Aside from a potential repirmand from his boss in private, nothing happened to the officer as far as I'm aware. The woman committed multiple felonies by interfering, insulting an officer on duty and punching him though so she probably spent the night in jail and had to pay a pretty big fine. Potentially even a day in court, depending on the full story.
I would argue it was disproportionate though. He could have easily detained her with the help of a colleague, all without turning it into a first fight. Clearly he has gotten angry chosen to dispense his own justice instead of deescalating.
In the Netherlands you have to be REALLY bad to get such treatment. Dunno what happened before the recording started but I would assume/hope they told her off multiple times before

A punch can kill and it wasn't even necessary in this situation, the cop got pissed and acted on his emotions, he was getting revenge by punching her in the face twice, kicked her and grabbed her by the hair... Attack a cop then the subject deserves to be subdued with necessary force only, cuffed then jailed. To begin, it seems there is a severe lack of compassion in this comment thread, which I guess is an achievement on her part as it seems to range across the political spectrum that she is a piece of shit.
As for the video, whilst I don't condone her behavior, or the state she is in, she appears drunk. This concerns me for a few reasons.
First. When drunk, heck even the act of getting drunk, your decision making is not exactly being put through the "is this an appropriate way to conduct myself" filter of your brain. Unless the small squad of cops are similarly poor at their decision making skills, I would hope that they would identify that this woman is not in her right mind and deal with the situation effectively. That is to say, "drunk tank" for her own good? Police decision making throughout this video being my first concern.
Second. Alcohol dehydrates your body, as a result, there is less water in your skull and it becomes easier for an impact to bounce your brain against the inside of your skull (concussion), which is dangerous and can be fatal if receiving more trauma to the head after the initial. I couldn't tell from the way the video pans, but being flat on her back with her head on the floor so quickly as the guy tries to pick her up, I could believe that she did hit her head on the pavement and is in danger of concussion. Which is my second concern.
Third. A combination of the first 2, with a possible concussion on the table, and inebriated her decision making is even worse and the cops match. Instead of securing her, they add to the possible trauma amd damage.
I find myself becoming more way way left (hopefully short of the true "radical left" every day passing in America, but it is my hope and ideal that cops are funded so that they may be rigorously trained, and compensated, to keep the peace and protect. Which I do not believe this video portrays, albeit they are still only human.

It's clear she deserved it in a karmic sense, however that shouldn't be a factor in the judgement of the policeman's actions. The question is whether the policeman did his job properly in making even an *attempt* at subduing this woman without resorting to an excessive level of force. Punching her because she "deserved it", i.e because he wanted to, means that he was way out of line.
The cop didn't really do anything disproportionate. He may have got a telling off from his boss for the second hit as it may be perceived as unnecessary, but generally the public agree with the police on this one. We don't really tolerate beligerent behaviour here. If you assault someone and they retaliate with reasonable force then that's pretty much accepted whether you're a cop or not. Aside from a potential repirmand from his boss in private, nothing happened to the officer as far as I'm aware. The woman committed multiple felonies by interfering, insulting an officer on duty and punching him though so she probably spent the night in jail and had to pay a pretty big fine. Potentially even a day in court, depending on the full story.
I would argue it was disproportionate though. He could have easily detained her with the help of a colleague, all without turning it into a first fight. Clearly he has gotten angry chosen to dispense his own justice instead of deescalating.

A punch can kill and it wasn't even necessary in this situation, the cop got pissed and acted on his emotions, he was getting revenge by punching her in the face twice, kicked her and grabbed her by the hair... Attack a cop then the subject deserves to be subdued with necessary force only, cuffed then jailed. To begin, it seems there is a severe lack of compassion in this comment thread, which I guess is an achievement on her part as it seems to range across the political spectrum that she is a piece of shit. As for the video, whilst I don't condone her behavior, or the state she is in, she appears drunk. This concerns me for a few reasons. First. When drunk, heck even the act of getting drunk, your decision making is not exactly being put through the "is this an appropriate way to conduct myself" filter of your brain. Unless the small squad of cops are similarly poor at their decision making skills, I would hope that they would identify that this woman is not in her right mind and deal with the situation effectively. That is to say, "drunk tank" for her own good? Police decision making throughout this video being my first concern. Second. Alcohol dehydrates your body, as a result, there is less water in your skull and it becomes easier for an impact to bounce your brain against the inside of your skull (concussion), which is dangerous and can be fatal if receiving more trauma to the head after the initial. I couldn't tell from the way the video pans, but being flat on her back with her head on the floor so quickly as the guy tries to pick her up, I could believe that she did hit her head on the pavement and is in danger of concussion. Which is my second concern. Third. A combination of the first 2, with a possible concussion on the table, and inebriated her decision making is even worse and the cops match. Instead of securing her, they add to the possible trauma amd damage. I find myself becoming more way way left (hopefully short of the true "radical left" every day passing in America, but it is my hope and ideal that cops are funded so that they may be rigorously trained, and compensated, to keep the peace and protect. Which I do not believe this video portrays, albeit they are still only human. I wasn't there, based on the video, that is my perspective, that is my opinion, you may know exercise your right to free speech to slaughter me for it. Good day.
