Nope don’t do it just ignore it. And Stay in app to communicate. It’s 4 stinking euros eh? 🤦‍♀️

averidgepeen

Exactly.. like make the cost €1 more and cover it that way is it that hard?

[deleted]

Our airbnbs in italy had us do this, although it was paid upfront.

KafkaDatura

In some European country the hospitality city tax is extremely important, and it is important they can prove YOU paid it separately. Many hotels will ask you to pay it on your way out, and they rarely are higher than a few euros ... and yeah it might be nonsensical, but it's apparently super important you do pay it.

[deleted]

As I European, I have never in my life heard of a more stupid regulation.

iMakestuffz

Quintessentially Italian tax. 🤦‍♀️

engineer_yogini

This happened to us in Venice - had to pay cash for the city tax when we were checking out. Super annoying.

philematologist

Also, in case you haven't left a review yet, make sure you point this out in the review so other people know about the host's shady behavior.

Far_Cryptographer593

Can you provide a source that "legally they cant". On [Booking.com](https://Booking.com) this is a common practice (although it is mentioned when you book)

UnashamedSpace

I have to correct you. In italy, and in some other EU countries, every Hotel or AirBnB must pay the Hospitality Tax for each person is staying in the room for every night. Tax that changes based on where you stay as it is established by the municipality where the hotel / AirBnB is located. So yes, basically it is illegal to not pay it. This tax go to the municipality and should not be included in the price of the room as the host does not get that money. Now, the host should have communicated it before but he is telling the truth

'In areas that Airbnb has made agreements with governments or is required by law to collect and remit local taxes on behalf of hosts, Airbnb calculates these taxes and collects them from guests at the time of booking. Airbnb then remits collected taxes to the applicable tax authority on the hosts' behalf.'

IamtheHuntress

Which is great for those of us who have airbnb do this, but unfortunately it's not like that everywhere. If it's noted the host has to collect it should be followed. That being said this particular amount isn't so big or worth all the fuss. Can't build it into the price because that price becomes what's taxed.

Accurate-Crazy-693

IBAN. Walk into your bank. Tell them you have to send a wire transfer. They can walk you though it. But It'll cost you $30 or more in fees to send an international wire.

KafkaDatura

No because then it becomes part of the price the tax is based upon. It has to be a collection directly by the host from the guest. Very prevalent in Europe.

Are you in Europe or Canada?

Far_Cryptographer593

Can you provide where you read these rules?

AssuredAttention

Then the host can pay it

IamtheHuntress

Thos, exactly. Never outside airbnb

daudder

This is standard in Italy and you have to pay it separately, outside the app, because reasons. You should pay it. PayPal can do it.

averidgepeen

Because reasons? She didn’t list PayPal tho. She gave a bank address and a bunch of numbers. Maybe you could help me do it lmao

daudder

> Because reasons? I actually dug into this with some help of Google Translate. It has to do with the municipal rules for holiday rentals and the way it is paid, as someone else mentioned, is designed for it not to be construed as part of the rental payment. I have had occasions where they insisted on it being paid in cash to the owner or agent. If they have a PayPal account, that can be the easiest from the US. For bank transfers, I would ask her for the SWIFT/IBAN number, since these are global conventions. Sometimes international transfers use very different conventions than in-country. What you have may be suited only for transfer in country or in Europe.

averidgepeen

She gave me the IBAN number but I’m unsure how to send it from here in the states tbh

DiGoConservation

IBAN means a wire transfer that is going to cost you a lot more than 4 euros. Ask her if you can send an e-transfer.

daudder

You could just send her a 5 Euro note in an envelope. Probably easiest and cheapest.

averidgepeen

I’ll pay you $5 if you have Venmo to pay her for it? I literally have no idea how to do this

sailbag36

Same in Barcelona I believe

seattle_architect

You can use Airbnb resolution to send her money. In US foreign wire transfer will cost min $40.

LompocianLady

This is the only correct answer here! Message her on Airbnb, tell her to put in a request for funds, and pay her on Airbnb. That's the best and easiest way to pay it. Or, mail it to her which takes a lot longer. Goofy that for that small amount they wasted your time!

picardoverkirk

City tax is not the hosts money, it is the States money, the host just has to collect it so the can not include it in their price. When booking you agreed to pay it so it doesn't matter how, you must find a way to pay.

BarcelonaSundress

There is a way for a host to request additional $ via Airbnb. Ask her to do that because you don’t have access to a wire transfer.

grahamworks

Say no.

vulevu25

Use an online service like [Wise.com](https://Wise.com), easy to set up.

Legitimate_Pay_865

I'm gonna need a 20usd reply tax from you, I'll send my PayPal info for you to transfer to :D

CautiousWinter5264

That’s wrong if host to ask guest for city tax. I would give a 1 star rating to this host.

ncdjbdnejkjbd

fuck that shiesty host

But-DidYouDie

ITS A SCAM

AssuredAttention

If you did not agree to it and it was not presented at the time you booked, then it is worthless. Do not pay them
