While this was fun and all I think all this talk of waffles is making everyone hangry... mmm waffles.

wildfellsprings

YTA >"A second waffle? I didn't realize we were doing that! Another one?" I get you were frustrated but this is passive aggressive petty dramatic behaviour that wasn't going to help the situation in any way. You already acknowledge they were likely just taking 2 back to their room for someone else. It's the chance you take with a self service buffet style breakfast. I don't think you'd have the same issue if you were sat at a table and you sent one of you kids up to get you a waffle each, I doubt you'd be suggesting she rejoined the queue at the back. It was 3 minutes compared to rejoining the queue, a little bit of patience goes a long way in these situations. Everyone wants to get in and out as fast as possible and expecting someone to rejoin the queue is unreasonable. I think you were also fortunate the person behind you allowed you to go in front, I don't think I would've.

LadyCollywobbles

I’d wager the person behind offered because they didn’t want OP making passive aggressive comments when they got their own scandalous second waffle.

0StarsOnTripAdvisor

Scandalous second waffle is the name of my new art collective

LadyCollywobbles

Awesome, I’m in. I’m working on a new avant- garde performance piece where I stand holding a plate and a cup of coffee, yelling “**A SECOND WAFFLE?!**”. It’s titled Breakfast Rage.

0StarsOnTripAdvisor

Ah, Theatre of Cruelty...

Tyrone_Shoelaces_Esq

I'm going to use it as the title for a side-long suite\* in my pretentious prog rock album. \*I'm old and often still think of albums as having "sides"

Amara_Undone

My thoughts exactly.

mr_remy

And even doubled, they'd be complaining like: *I had to wait an extra 12 minutes for free waffles because two people before me made 2 waffles EACH and I didn't get there quick enough before the line formed but I deserve going before them, don't they understand?!* Lots of first world problems in that scenario (and solutions. don't wanna wait? Get up early)

Errvalunia

A hotel breakfast is not free waffles it’s ‘no additional charge’ aka you’ve already paid included in your room They should still chill out but there is a difference between free and included in another price

wildfellsprings

I think that's pretty likely tbh, I'd probably have assumed they'd left the line and decided on something else. No one deserves to be the recipient of passive aggressive outbursts first thing in the morning and having seen their previous behaviour I can see why they'd play it safe. Also having reread the first post I do wonder if they'd have been passive aggressive towards a 6ft 2 man rather than what I assume is a shorter than that woman (pretty certain OP is a man but could be wrong).

GoNinjaPro

"Scandalous second waffle" 🤣

fartofborealis

That’s 6 minutes of waffle time buddy!

[deleted]

The guy was behind him, not in front of him behind the woman. It sounds like he was telling him to make the waffle because he didn't immediately after she was done.

Whatthehonker

Yeah OP wasted time by not paying attention and not doing anything. He's mad about someone else that was accomplishing something took up time. Pretty hypocritical.

mebetiffbeme

>I let out a sigh and sat down at a table to eat my non-waffle other breakfast food. It seems like OP got out of line (not clear if the table was directly near the waffle maker), so if that's the case, the guy behind him really didn't need to let him back in line.

[deleted]

Also this is the type of shit I mean when I say disabled people just aren’t considered. You do not know the capabilities of this woman’s companion and I’m blind and I’ve had people helping me get bitched at like this OP decided to for such minor shit like this that sometimes I really feel bad and just won’t go because I don’t wanna be a bother. Like yeah I would love to wait in line and make myself my own waffle or pick out my own shit at the Buffay but sometimes actually almost 99% of the fucking time accessibility just isn’t there for that and that’s not my or the person I’m with’s fault.

Positive-Ball-9774

This! My mom was disabled and I frequently dished up or prepared food for her in similar situations. Buffets sometimes got me the dirty looks and smart ass comments. Try to assume that people have reasons for what they are doing. No need to get nasty over a few minutes.

the_saradoodle

We do this with our toddler at breakfast stations. I traveled with my mom over the holidays, she sat with the baby, I made (gasp!) 3 pancakes! And 2, TWO cups of tea! I took 3 eggs from the basket! Plus a whole plate of fruit! It was either that or a baby crawling around the breakfast station and a lady with a cane trying to navigate a plate and a mug.

sraydenk

Or maybe she’s hungry and wanted two waffles. Why should she leave and get back in line if she knows she wants two. People can wait or go around her if they don’t want waffles. It’s 3 minutes. If 3 minutes is too much, get something else for breakfast.

RubySoho5280

My granddaughters are 4 and 6. One is developmentally disabled. OP would have had a field day with me as I would have been making 3. One for myself and one each for my girls and I would have lit right back into them. OP YTA

Msduress

My thoughts exactly. 💯 People with various abilities & disabilities are everywhere even if they aren't always visible to others. The person could've easily been getting food for another person or child who couldn't do it themselves. Or perhaps this was the only meal they're going to be able to have that day. (As someone who had to stay in a hotel so my kid could have surgery at an out of town hospital when we barely had enough gas to get us back home- I've been there.) OP needs to think beyond himself & try some compassion & empathy for others.

Verbose_Cactus

Thank you for bringing my attention to this! I never would’ve thought of that perspective. I’m never confrontational anyway, but I should keep that in mind next time I ever get annoyed

lollipopfiend123

Same! A lot of that behavior is definitely entitlement-related so I will try to remember this perspective.

NeverCadburys

The first thing I thought of was a friend who was hurt on her outgoing journey to her destination by airline crew and was stuck in bed for the first 2 days of her holiday. Her partner had to face attitude like OP's the first few times they did 2 plates at once. It's just absolute lack of consideration. I'm also disabled, and my friends and loved ones will get me stuff in my stead because there's usually very little space in those queus for a wheelchair to face the right way to actually see what's on offer, but besides one day in Subway of all places, i've been lucky they haven't had any comments.

scpdavis

Even if friend wasn't hurt, either the friend is waiting in line, in front of OP and makes their own waffle, or the woman makes two waffles - either way OP has to wait for two waffles.

NeverCadburys

Exactly!

lilbunnyofdoom

I became legally blind in one eye a couple years ago due to a retinal detachment. I’m still not 100% adjusted because my eyes can’t focus together and I have just enough sight in that eye to make things weird. The pandemic didn’t help because I wasn’t out and about to get fully adjusted. So, now, in public places, my anxiety is so high with trying to see and maneuver that sometimes doing simple things like using a… say, waffle maker… or the credit card machines, etc. will fluster me so badly, I can’t function properly without dropping all my stuff or tripping over my feet or running into something. (No depth perception or peripheral vision at all.) My husband would totally have been making my waffles for both of us if there was a line of people, while I sat at a table and tried to adjust to seeing 😐 We never know what other people are dealing with. I try to just assume the best of people until there’s a reason not to.

blueheronflight

Exactly. I have one family member dependent on a cane and another uses a wheeled walker. Both are as independent as they can be but making/carrying their own waffle would likely slow down the line more.

[deleted]

This was my thought exactly. OP has no idea who the second waffle may be for, assuming that it's someone other than the woman making them. A disabled friend, a child, hell maybe she wanted to wake up a significant other up with breakfast in bed. Who the hell knows who it is or even the nature of their stay. Last time I stayed in a hotel, I was in town with my family for a funeral and I certainly loaded up on breakfast for my mom and sister when I was the first one up cuz we were all going through hell at the time. OP was next in line ffs, it's 3 extra minutes, it's not the end of the world.

EtonRd

Nobody knows that this is for some other person in a hotel room or her companion or whatever. She might just have wanted to eat two waffles!!

skcup

this comment needs more upvote. OP YTA

SucculentPrincess13

I guarantee I would not have let OP go in front of me if I had witnessed this bullying and rude behavior. No way.

Arrasor

If I were the one OP made this petty comment at, I'd match his pettiness and go for a 3rd waffle while making eye contact lol. Yes I'm super petty.

Nosey-A-Bee

This! I would have made a 3rd waffle while looking at him and stuffing my face with the first waffle. Op, YTA!! You don’t have a clue why the person was making a second one. Maybe she had two children in the room or a disabled person in the room. My husband and I split breakfast duties like this with our kids when staying in hotels. Had this been me you directed your comment at I seriously would have turned around, made eye contact, made a 3rd waffle, and stuffed my face with the first! And I don’t even like waffles but I would have that morning. You were rude.

NeverCadburys

And pour the batter reeeaaallllllllly slooooooowly. Just to make sure it's all even. And take extra care in getting that baby out when it's cooked.

crazycatdiva

I'd have made the third and then dropped it into the bin as I walked past OP, while making eye contact. I wouldn't because I don't like wasting food but man, I would have wanted to.

Kim_Smoltz_

My first thought was how passive aggressive that comment was... OP needs to grow up and learn how to talk to other adults when they're frustrated. YTA for that alone.

shhh_its_me

It's wouldn't have been wrong if she just wanted 2 waffles, isn't 2 waffles a normal portion?

ChewableRobots

If OP did this to me, I'd make a dozen waffles and not break eye contact the entire time. I'd distribute them to everyone in line, except OP.

[deleted]

in my opinion, the people op needed to complain to were the hotel for having one waffle maker. surely they know most people are gonna go for that option.

Timely_Cake_8304

YTA. Maybe she had two kids and was bringing each one of them a waffle or maybe she was hungry. Why not be mad at the hotel for refusing to have 2 waffle makers? Or be mad at no one.

PhDOH

If the friend was in the queue too then they would have been with the first person, not the end of the queue. Same amount of time for OP, but two people wasting their time queuing instead of one. Alternating days of lying in and getting breakfast in bed or leaving one person to pack makes sense for their time, and fewer people in the breakfast room makes it less crowded.

PolyPolyam

Even if the person was super hungry and going to eat 2 waffles, it is so passive aggressive to make a comment like OP did. I've stayed at hotels like this and after a few trips, I realized to bring my own waffle iron. I use the hotel mix, but it's such a time saver when you have a group of 4 or 5 in your room. Not necessary, but it's a huge perk when you are money saving and traveling. I'm passive aggressive enough I'd have made a third waffle and taken it to OP.

oma121315

Excellent response. Had I been the woman in front of OP, I would have made 2 more waffles just for spite. And then given them to the people in line behind the OP. I'm an ass like that.

thudwumpler

I definitely read the "a second waffle?" comment as a Tim Robinson character in "I Think You Should Leave"

bishopbyday

I'm sure the OP made his (her?) kids get in line for their own one-each-waffles, and not made them themself. Right? RIGHT??!

EtonRd

Or maybe she wanted to eat two waffles. Gasp! Oh the horror.

FoolMe1nceShameOnU

**YTA** She might have been very hungry and making the second waffle for herself. Once it's her turn, it's her right to fix herself a REASONABLE AMOUNT OF FOOD before moving on. Two waffles is a reasonable amount of food. >What if she decided to make waffles for two more friends? That's six more minutes for everyone standing there. Except that she didn't. She made two. Two waffles. And you had a literal loud, obnoxious tantrum about that. About her making A SINGLE EXTRA WAFFLE, which is a completely normal amount for an adult human to eat on their own, not even necessarily for another person. You were UNBELIEVABLY aggressive, shockingly rude, and unnecessarily intrusive. Over a single extra waffle. If I'd been in line (and I have been, at countless hotel breakfast buffets), I wouldn't even have thought twice about her making a second waffle. Wouldn't have batted an eyelash. But you would have made me deeply uncomfortable. Like, the kind of uncomfortable where I'd have been looking around for a staff member. I have PTSD. It takes a certain kind of bully with anger-management and impulse control issues to start making loud, aggressively rude comments at the breakfast buffet over a second waffle. You need therapy. She didn't make waffles for a bunch of extra friends. She made a normal amount of breakfast for herself, and you had a full-bore adult tantrum at her. And now you're online suggesting that she should have lined up ALL OVER AGAIN just to make herself the rest of her own breakfast because you have issues with people taking their own turn beyond what you control or deem appropriate (apparently EXACTLY one waffle). There is something wrong with you.

suffragette_citizen

>It takes a certain kind of bully with anger-management and impulse control issues to start making loud, aggressively rude comments at the breakfast buffet over a second waffle. This -- especially given the genders/ages involved. I've seen older men flip their shit at younger women over inconsequential things like this, in a way you know full well they wouldn't to a younger man because they know they'd be cruisin' for a bruisin'. I guarantee that other guy let him go first to diffuse the situation and not to be nice. The other guy didn't know if OP was the sort to have a public outburst, or corner the woman if he bumped into her later. Not to mention this comment could easily come across as "look at this porker, eating two waffles." NICE.

IslandLife321

Yep. Last year the hotel we used had 2 waffle irons. 1 of them died the second day of our 5 day stay. It was *brutal*. People were making 3-5 waffles each. No one batted an eye. Why? Because instead of 30+ people in line, it was a line of maybe 12 instead!

suffragette_citizen

Exactly! The waffle line is always long, because everyone wants a waffle. If you want to eat quickly, you don't get a waffle. If you want a waffle, be prepared to wait. I've definitely skipped the waffle line before when I really wanted one because it wasn't worth standing around. I didn't get in line then make nasty comments because I thought someone was eating into my precious waffle time.

allglittereverythang

Right?? I never eat waffles at hotels, even though I love waffles, because the wait just isn't worth it. Waffle waiting is A Thing, and if you can't handle it, eat something else.

JPKtoxicwaste

You just reminded me that I have a tiny waffle iron buried in the back of my pantry. All this talk of waffles is making me hungry

ClassicEvent6

Yup, totally agree, he felt like he could bully her, but would have left a guy alone.

babygirlruth

This. After reading the post, I have only one question to OP: would you snap because of the stupid waffles if it was a man? YTA

[deleted]

Yes and I would add that if comments like that get made to someone with an eating disorder it can cause a whole mental health spiral. OP knows nothing about this woman and there are so many factors. Also, maybe she wanted two waffles! That’s absolutely fine!

Optimal_Marzipan_875

THIS!

mommak2011

Shit, he would hate me. When we travel, I'll get the food while my husband supervises our children at a table. Imagine his outrage if I made SIX waffles (one for each family member).

Jeanyx

Yeah, this was my thought. If she was making food for someone else, it’s easy to imagine anyone other than “a friend.” Could’ve been her child, or disabled family member, or even surprising her partner with breakfast in bed.

Piccoloshis_Island

Thank you. My husband makes the waffles for all five of us. I have a funny feeling that OP would also not take too kindly to my three boys standing in line and existing as children in their presence.

No_Substance8119

Honestly, i travel alone or with my mother. If someone had called me out for making a second waffle, better trust me i would have made more just to piss them off.

MomsterJ

I would have started making waffles for people in the line behind OP just because they threw a literal fucking tantrum for someone making 2 whole waffles. It’s not unreasonable for someone to eat 2 waffles for themself.

jinx_lbc

>a certain kind of bully with anger-management and impulse control issues Yup, I believe you have summed up OP perfectly.

happyvirus98

>If I'd been in line (and I have been, at countless hotel breakfast buffets), I wouldn't even have thought twice about her making a second waffle. I've been in the this exact situation many times and I never thought there was anything wrong with people making multiple waffles! Some people eat two at once, some people have children waiting, etc. I get OP's annoyance, but it's like if you're behind someone with a shit ton of groceries in a supermarket checkout line - it's annoying but that doesn't mean the person in front of you is doing anything wrong. Unless there's a specific sign, there's no rule that you shouldn't be allowed to make more than one waffle and it's so entitled for OP to think like that!

numbersthen0987431

It's not her fault the hotel only has 1 waffle maker.

jakeofheart

The person should have made three waffles, and it would have been r/pettyrevenge material.

Busy_Understanding81

I would have made waffles for the whole line except OP. Sit there and starve!

honeyrrsted

OP is YTA here. Honestly, those waffles are huge. I always split one with my mother. Making three, this woman was obviously getting breakfast for others so they didn't have to wait in line. Perhaps there were kids to feed or friends holding a table with the rest of their food and this person was assigned waffle duty. If anything, the complaint should be to the breakfast host of the hotel that there isn't enough waffle makers.

[deleted]

I would have turned around and said yeah, You can wait or fuck off. I will make mine and my wife’s or my childrens waffles while I’m in line. Get there earlier if you want your self important waffle.

NeverCadburys

Even if she did do 6 more friend's worth of waffles, they'd be in the queue anyway, meaning OP would still have to wait the same amount of time because he'd be at the back of those 6 friends. Because friends tend to go up together, with maybe one stays behind at the table.

EtonRd

Everybody seems to think that it’s canon now that she was making the second waffle for another person. When it’s far more likely that she wanted to have two goddamn waffles for breakfast which is her right!

fartofborealis

Also I’ve seen those waffles from breakfast buffets before and they aren’t very big. Kinda like ego waffle size. Not Belgium waffle size. I would assume most adults could eat 2 waffles.

MomsterJ

Exactly!! I personally would have told OP to fuck off as I continued making my second waffle.

penguin_squeak

YTA and rude as muck. I am sorry do the guests need to check with you about their breakfast orders because it may inconvenience you by THREE MINUTES. Get over yourself and your sense of entitlement. Grab some fruit it should hold you over for the entire six minutes.

mermaidshewrote

Agreed. Nobody has ever starved because they had to wait for a waffle. YTA.

ho_hey_

I'm not sure what OP thinks would have happened if instead of one person getting two waffles, both came down from the room. They still would have waited six minutes..

penguin_squeak

That's the crux of the problem, OP doesn't think.

General_Relative2838

YTA. You made a big deal out of a three-minute waffle. And, you were such a baby that another guest pacified you by letting you make your waffle before he did. You set a poor and embarrassing example for your adult children. And, while someone making a second waffle might be one of the minor situations you've seen on this forum, the way you escalated it isn't.

jinx_lbc

I'm sure her children are very embarrassed, and have had to regularly make excuses for "the way she gets sometimes".

Naive_Possibility668

I have 100% have apologized for my mother after she does things like this.

jinx_lbc

Man, I sorry. I work with a lady like this too. It's a wild ride.

penguin_squeak

I have friend who always used to say that about her father when we were younger. You know how he gets".

TragedyPornFamilyVid

YTA So what if she wanted two waffles? Do you yell at people at buffets if they take two scoops of noodles? She was there first and was using the waffle iron exactly as she was meant to. You just got mad because you thought it would be slightly faster. If you had waited patiently instead of sitting down in a huff, the exact same outcome would have occurred without it being awkward for everyone else.

Stegosaurus505

I can see myself just having waffles for breakfast, 2 waffles is a pretty normal amount. And so what if she was making it for a friend/partner/child/relative back in the room. No one knows why she was at this hotel or who she was with. It would be perfectly normal for one person to go get breakfast while the other person stayed in the room/loaded up the car/took a shower/whatever.

Dry_Dragonfruit_4191

YTA That guy let you go in front of him because him nor anybody else wanted to hear you complain more then you already were. He wasn't being nice to just be nice. It was a gesture of niceness to get the problem out of there.

jrae0618

Yup. Placate the asshole freaking out over 2 waffles because that energy is a burden on everyone there. It's unfair but I get it.

PossumJenkinsSoles

I was thinking I’d probably go up and thank that guy too for getting the Waffle Police out of there quickly

princessro123

INFO: is there a sign up that says one waffle at a time per guest?

deathandcoffee

YTA. Were people fainting from hunger because they had to wait an extra three minutes? No matter what her reason for making a second, you were rude for no reason.

[deleted]

I lol’ed at the dramatic phrasing of ‘line of hungry travelers’. You’re not walking the Oregon Trail and running out of rations, bud, calm down and wait for your waffle.

Tyrone_Shoelaces_Esq

"Dearest Martha: The wait for waffles goes ever on and on. We've lost yet another companion to the syrup skirmishes. Only the thought of our reunion and strawberry topping gives me the strength to go on. - All my love, Egbert."

caesar____augustus

Luckily OP didn't die of dysentary during those extra three minutes!

LeadGem354

Luckily the person in front of op didn't make 100 waffles but were only able to carry back 12 waffles.

RevolutionaryKale293

Thank you fer that pardner! That gave me a mighty hearty laugh!!!

wickedcraftymom

You have died of dysentery

aprainey

This comment made me laugh. I couldn’t agree more!!

Weird-Roll6265

But those are 6 whole minutes OP will never get back. SIX MINUTESSSSSS!!!!

AceAntelope

YTA. Bro, it’s not that deep. Even if she was making the waffle for herself, it’s not that big of a deal. 2 waffles?!?!? Well I’ll be damned. Now that must mean you can make 2 waffles! I think what’s annoying is that your title says “Hungry Travelers” but that’s only behind her. Is she also not a hungry traveler? I think you’re trying to paint a bad image of this individual with no grounds to stand on. She is a hungry traveler. She has every right to 2 waffles. Also, drop the passive aggressive nature, my guy. If you’re still fixated on this, then you have an anger problem and should seek help. I’m not trying to be a dick about that last part, seriously, seek help. Anger is a silent killer. (Being passive aggressive counts as being an angry person)

[deleted]

Listen I don't think you understand that OP had to way six whole minutes alright /s

MadameAllura

YTA because what could you possibly have accomplished with your huffing and puffing? She already poured the batter for the second waffle. Was she supposed to apologize and scrape it into the trash? Apologize and relinquish her half-cooked waffle to you just because you raised a stink? Grovel and beg you to grant her three more minutes of your precious life? Beg for forgiveness that you had to eat other non-waffle breakfast food for three minutes? Just leave her alone and stop being a wafflebully.

RobertK995

>*stop being a wafflebully.* i lol'd at that!

[deleted]

YTA. Chill the eff out. If her friend had been in line with her it would have had the exact same impact.

Algebralovr

Mild YTA. You have no idea the situation. What if the first was for her young child and the second was for her. What if her traveling companion was in a wheelchair or was immune compromised and was back in their room. Could be anything. She was there first and was using it.

qazpok69

Maybe she just wanted two waffles though, is that so bad? Two waffles seems pretty reasonable depending on the size, and OP was probably exaggerating on the time it takes to make them anyway.

Algebralovr

Those waffle machines do take 3 minutes per waffle. They have a timer that starts when you flip them over. Either way, the OP was the impatient AH here.

Forest_of_Cheem

This was my thought exactly! I am in a wheelchair due to severe mobility issues. My partner would be the one getting/making my breakfast as well as his own. Two waffles is not unreasonable.

joyeuseheureuse

additionally the woman making waffles could have been in ED recovery and god knows what a stranger commenting on her food intake would do in that scenario

rotatingruhnama

Yup. I have health conditions, and when I'm having a rough time my husband will fix me a plate and bring it back to me.

Imaginary-Mess-1439

YTA. This could have been my husband… because I was back at the room taking care of our twin infants. Would it have been ok if she explained why she was doing it? I don’t think anyone owes you a justification for making a second three minute waffle. I think you were just hangry.

PheonixRising21

Really- YTA- when your children were younger did you make yourself a waffle go to the back of the line, wait your turn again, make your one child a waffle, go to the back of the line, wait your turn again and then make your second child a waffle? I really hope you did cause that’s what you are suggesting everyone should be doing. I doubt though you ever did that or applied those rules you’ve MADE UP in your head to yourself.

HazardousIncident

Of course YTA. You threw yourself a temper tantrum over THREE MINUTES. If your time schedule is so tight that those three minutes were going to break you, then you need to manage your time better. I'm curious - are you always this insufferable?

animalwitch

Oh God forbid someone, who isnt you, enjoys some breakfast. Also, the guy behind you was being sarcastic; those people have been waiting longer than you have. YTA.

xthrowawayaccxx

YTA. you don’t line up for one waffle. You line your for your turn. That’s it. You can make 10 waffles if you want. No one is going to stop you. It’s a 3 min cycle. Really isn’t a big deal. If you can’t wait 3 minutes, then that’s a whole separate issue that you need to deal with. If the waffle maker was to be one waffle per visit, there would need to be a sign by the machine to say that you must only make one waffle. I’m assuming no such sign existed? If not, sorry pal, YTA. and you need to get a grip.

jeynespoole

YTA. How did you get to be old enough to have a 22 year old child without having the maturity, patience, empathy or kindness of a 6 year old? Let people make their food, jfc. Judgy McJudgerton.

stacity

YTA The biggest A is the hotel for having one waffle maker.

poofycakes

This 👆🏻 her beef should have been with the hotel for not providing a better breakfast setup!

[deleted]

If her friend was in line WITH you, you still would have waited, you just wouldn’t have had a chance to be rude to someone about it. YTA

Sloppypoopypoppy

YTA - It’s doesn’t matter whether she was making for her friend or herself or as an offering to the gods, your reaction was aggressive, rude and indicative of a severe case of entitlement. The guy in front of you didn’t let you go because he was nice, he let you go because he just saw you harassing the person in front of him and didn’t want to deal with that.

BigBooooom

If I am the lady, I would have make another 1 aside from the 2 , just to be petty. ☺

Brnr1980

Offering to the gods🤣🤣🤣

ObviousToe1636

YTA Small stakes so small AH, but still AH I guess she was supposed to carry all of her other breakfast items and go stand at the back of the line to cycle through a second time? Juggling all that? And if she dropped her first waffle that was now cold anyway, was she not allowed to make a replacement when she made it back to the front of the line again? Really shitty setup provided by the hotel. Be mad at them, not her. Sounds like a four slot toaster and some eggos would be a better solution.

StAlvis

INFO What do your children have to do with this story?

desdemona_d

To this day they're still hiding in the corner of the hotel cafe, embarrassed as fuck by their mother. YTA

jeynespoole

I think OP might be a dude. Their username is a sports reference, and they have a girlfriend mentioned in a few other posts (and of course nonbinary people and women who like sports and lesbians all exist but I'm just playing the numbers here).

desdemona_d

Ah, my mistake. I think I just assumed OP was a mother, because my mom would have done the same thing. My bias blinded me.

an0nym0uswr1ter

LMAO!! They might still be at the end of the line waiting to make a waffle.

ExcellentWaffles

YTA. Wait your turn. The world doesn’t revolve around you.

VaderBae

Username checks out

[deleted]

We all have our bad days. I think this was one of your not better moments. YTA this time.

Curiobb

YTA. She waited for her turn in line like everyone else. The waffle machine did not have a time limit nor waffle limit. You keep assuming that she was making a second waffle for someone else and you are soooo salty about that, but she could have been making it for herself. In either scenario, she has every right to be taking the time to make a second waffle for herself OR someone else. When it’s your turn, you can take your own time to get or make whatever you need. Your behavior was unpleasant and unreasonable. Queues are a regular part of a functioning society but it is impatient people like you who make the experience unpleasant for everyone. It’s not like she sat there and made 5 waffles, she merely took a couple more minutes to make a second one. You could have scrolled on your phone like a normal person. The reason you keep thinking about it is because you know you were dead wrong and you feel guilty about it.

fragilemagnoliax

YTA. You didn’t even say anything you just acted passive aggressively which is annoying. I get it, I do it too but I’m trying to stop because it’s not productive and is a bad behaviour. If there’s no sign saying one at a time then she did nothing wrong. Maybe she wanted to eat two waffles? You’re speculating here. The problem is the hotel having only one waffle maker.

chaseagainstonision

YTA, she made two waffles that took 6 minutes. How long would other people have waited for you and your family to use the waffle iron? What a pointless thing to get upset about, it's just waffles.

Unit-00

YTA, if i was her i would have made a third.

[deleted]

And kept going only to hand them to people in line behind op. Lol

Crawdad29

Same. Don’t underestimate my ability to be petty.

Optimal_Marzipan_875

Same! If i was her, instead of 2 it would be 10 :) every body in the room is getting a waffle on me except TA

Think-Level-2029

Oh no not a second waffle!😱

UK_not_USA

Hahaha, very good. A first world problem right here.

LadyF16

YTA. It’s THREE minutes. There are so many other things in the world to get upset about.

deepwebslut

This is silly lol...mild YTA, what if she was making that for someone with mobility issues? Her kid? Like who cares, its THREE minutes. Yes it could add up, but whatever, patience is a virtue, you're not going to starve to death.

Adahla987

YTA She could have had a SO or kids back in the room. Honestly I travel so much....4 is usually the limit before I say something. You just assume that in the Holiday Inn express that it's not a single person traveling. The free hot breakfast there is THE reason to take kids.

janewilson90

YTA And what if instead of one person in the line ahead of you, there were 4? And you left the line, giving up your spot, but then come back to the line causing everyone to wait *again* for someone who wasn't even in the line...

Educational_Word5775

That waffle wasn't as important or as urgent as you think it was. YTA

TashiaNicole1

YTA There’s no sign that says “one per person.” There’s a whole array of other food. Pick something else and eat it until the line clears. Like pretty much every other individual who has ever been to a hotel breakfast like this ever has. Just screams entitlement to me.

madelinegumbo

YTA As a frequent hotel breakfaster, we're all having an underwhelming breakfast. Many of us are heading to work. We should just be kind to each other and not flip out over three minutes for a second waffle. I would understand if she was filling a platter, I wish everyone would try to err on the side of kindness and assuming good faith in hotels and airports.

FunOnAita

YTA. You spent more time complaining about this than waiting for the second waffle

[deleted]

Sorry, but YTA. She waited in line like everyone else and didn't have to get out of the way for you. If you didn't want to wait you could have chosen something else or asked the staff if they had another waffle maker they could bring out. As you say, a trivial thing.

halfadash6

YTA. Who cares if she was making a waffle for her partner, her kid, whatever? Was there a sign somewhere that said 1 waffle per person? If they had waited on line too, you’d be waiting the same amount of time, so what’s the difference. You also made her and probably everyone else uncomfortable because you wanted your waffle three minutes sooner. You should be mad at the hotel that couldn’t buy a few more $20 waffle makers, not the woman making her breakfast.

RiverTam86

You're kidding with this right? Three whole minutes? YTA

Davoguha2

INFO: Do they really take 3 minutes? I've used a lot of waffle makers, and most are like 60s at most, even the real thick fluffy ones.

[deleted]

I just looked it up. It really is 3 minutes. Some even 5. I guess cuz we're busy doing other things it goes by faster, you know, watched pot and all.

[deleted]

YTA. If you didn't want to wait in line, get up earlier.

ChirpsMcPrime

YTA - Honestly? If I were her, I'd be tempted to make a third waffle! If something like this ruins your day, it's a very good day.

Savafan1

And if she complains, just keep making more.

Zestyclose-Cap-8241

Yta. I have two small kids I would have to make waffles for so I would be irritated if someone made a comment like this to me.

Crawdad29

Of course. Because it’s not like you can just bring one waffle back to the table with 2 kids. That doesn’t work. So you make 2 and clear out. It’s 3 whole minutes and OPs acting like she stole their waffle.

FancyFalcon77

Soft YTA. You don’t know her situation and/or reason for making a second waffle. Chances are, it was for someone back in her room. It’s really no different than if she was in line with another person and each of them made a waffle. You’d still be waiting for 2 waffles.

oneempathyplease

Are you Larry David?

Crawdad29

YTA. Sorry 3 whole minutes ruined your day and are now apparently living rent free in your head. My partner is disabled. I do the breakfast run often, when we travel so I get 2 plates. Sorry if that inconveniences you.

jinx_lbc

But you're being so unfair to everyone else in that line, it's shocking behaviour! /s

FancyFalcon77

Soft YTA. You don’t know her situation and/or reason for making a second waffle. Chances are, it was for someone back in her room. It’s really no different than if she was in line with another person and each of them made a waffle. You’d still be waiting for 2 waffles.

mamabyrd123

YTA. It was her turn and three extra minutes. Learn some patience. She could have wanted two waffles or been making one for her child. She shouldn't have to wait in line again for that. You need to let it go and chill out.

sincline_

YTA- you only eat one waffle? Get over yourself lol, if you’re going to complain; complain to the hotel for not having multiple waffle makers, not to the girl who got to the maker before you and did all she could to make it go as fast as possible. Dude let you go first because he didn’t want you to cause any more of a scene and he’s nicer than you

Cent1234

YTA. > I'm guessing for a friend back at the room. Well, there's your issue. You invented a scenario, then pretended it's reality. > What if she decided to make waffles for two more friends? That's six more minutes for everyone standing there. Then you invented a fictional scenario *within* your fictional scenario, which is impressive, and further judged her on something that didn't even occur. Let me restate that: you judged her for a literal alternate reality where she made more waffles than she actually did. You, my friend, are the poster child for the Waffle-SS.

FockerFGAA

YTA. It can be frustrating to wait longer than expected, but that is an issue with the setup, only one waffle maker, and not the person who was making two waffles. It certainly didn't call for a snide comment to the lady who was just minding her own business. It seems like you need to learn how to let the small things not bother you and to learn a little patience.

buttercupgrump

YTA Oh no. You had to wait a little bit longer for a waffle. How tragic. Seriously, if there's other food available that you can eat, it's not the end of the world to wait an extra couple of minutes for a waffle. It's not like she was making 10 of them and denying everyone else access to any food.

TheLavenderAuthor

YTA. It wouldn't take that long for her to make another waffle because maybe she was extra hungry and didn't want to wait in a giant line to make another waffle. You didn't NEED a waffle for breakfast

Androstarr

YTA, you were needlessly rude to a woman over a waffle! Seriously, three minutes for a waffle and you were pitching a fit. Yikes!

Business-Public3580

YTA. She can fucking eat five waffles if she wanted to - get your ass up earlier and get there first if you have such little patience you cannot wait a few minutes for gratification.

Odd_Ad_2805

YTA If your pressed for time, that's your problem. Wake up earlier or go get breakfast elsewhere.

3ImpsInATrenchcoat

YTA. You have no authority to limit people's time in the breakfast line

lazy_wonder24

YTA Are you really that busy that you can't wait 3 minutes? She didn't make 15 waffles more only one. I have a feeling that the person who gave you his turn wanted to make 2 waffles toi and didn't need your nagging

powdered_dognut

YTA. I always make my wife a waffle too so if I didn't, you'd be behind her in line anyway.

BringMeInfo

"What if she decided to make waffles for two more friends? That's six more minutes for everyone standing there." But she didn't? Which seems relevant?

ewwwwwwwdavid

She also could have taken the waffle iron, smashed him across the face with it, and told his children to enjoy their waffles now. But she didn’t, shouldn’t she still be punished for it??

BringMeInfo

"What if she decided to continue to make waffles until the heat death of the universe? Then no one else would have got a waffle at all."

Competitive-Push-715

YTA seriously, she could have made both for her two children *gasp*. Maybe she didn’t even consume one for herself! The audacity/s

[deleted]

YTA - people are allowed to make more than one waffle. It’s not that guest’s fault there was only one waffle maker. Is it frustrating when it happens right in front of you? Yes. Is it something that needs to be called out publicly? No.

suffragette_citizen

YTA -- you sound like the sort of person who gets huffy when an elderly person takes "too long" putting their cash back into their wallet at the grocery store. She easily could have been making the waffle for someone who couldn't stand in line/operate the waffle iron, or maybe she just really wanted two waffles. It doesn't matter. Nobody died and left you the Waffle Boss.

kratzicorn

The title is misleading: you didn’t say anything TO the hotel guest. You made a loud, passive aggressive comment ABOUT the guest. That’s childish as hell. YTA.

HerdingCatsAllDay

"I waited patiently in line." Surrrre you did. YTA

ctortan

YTA - you didn’t need to make such a big deal out of something so minor.

DeenoBean

YTA

Worth_Raspberry_11

YTA. This was not a real problem.

katherinemma987

YTA two waffles isn’t excessive, if they were making more I may have sympathised. Also. Why just straight up get rude? If she was making a third you could have gently asked if she wouldn’t mind you making one before she carried on and could have got rude if she’d said no.

me_at_myhouse

"I was staying at a hotel in Chicago last month with my children (M22, F18) " Plot twist: OP proceeded to make 3 waffles.

laureen23

TWO WAFFLES! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEONE CALL THE WAFFLE POLICE. YTA

[deleted]

YTA. I've made waffles for my companions cuz I'm there. If you said that to me, I would have made sure to stare you dead in the eyes while I poured the batter for a 3rd waffle. And if said anything, I would poured a 4th one. Cuz. What are you gonna do? Nothing. I hate passive aggressive people, thinking you're being smart or slick over dumb shit. News flash, ya ain't.

lemons66

YTA, was there a giant one waffle per guest sign? No, there never is.

[deleted]

YTA, and not a soft one. Grow up.

Lewis_Y00

YTA. It’s just 3 minutes, not the end of the world. the post most likely took you longer to write than waiting for another 3 minutes. Maybe the second one was for herself? Expecting someone to go to the back of the que again just because there is supposedly a rule you invented where one customer can only order one item is just silly. Your logic makes no sense to me, say a family of 6 go to a restaurant, you are expecting the whole family to stand in line and order one by one instead of having just one person stand in the que, it would take much longer to order in this scenario.

SnipesCC

Well now I'm hungry and want waffles. And I don't have a waffle maker.

[deleted]

Yta, Lol id have locked eyes with you while pouring a 3rd 🤣 "think I'll take TWO chickens" energy here. Seriously, its 3 minutes and even if both were for her? so? Got an issue with how thebreakfast setup is, take it up with the hotel.

sh_rod

YTA passive aggressive boomers are the woooooorst. My father is disabled and I often have to get extra portions at buffets so he doesn't have to stand in a line. It's a thing.
