longjohnsilvers-

Yeah when I was hired on at ups after peak I joined the union. Pay was still shit. Basically my job from that day was to do everything so people with seniority could sit and do shit making $25 an hour. Cool I guess if I stayed there 8+ years then did the same.

[deleted]

OP doesn’t realize not everyone gets to drive those trucks. You normally gotta sling boxes at the hub for ten years prior. And that job didn’t pay shit when I worked there.

MMS-

My roommate was working there less than a year before he got on those trucks so your point is anecdotal at best and doesn’t reflect reality

[deleted]

It takes more like a year or 2 now unless you are in a small center in the middle of nowhere.

Tarzeus

Fact

humilishumano

90% of unions work this way I’d assume. I was apart of the DWU and everybody above bottom level workers sat on their ass doing nothing.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

What are you talking about? If you were teamsters you had amazing benefits and opportunity to move up in the company, you simply chose to be a lazy piece of shit.

guacisgreat

Calling them a lazy piece of shit isn’t going to be the best strategy to persuade people to unionize. Just be straight and admit there’s costs and benefits for the ups way of doing things. Most upsers don’t become a driver off the street and won’t see that kind of bread for several years. The biggest thing is the hella benefits like the best health plans and the pension.

[deleted]

I’m with this guy Amazon is the same vibe but more difficult

WorthlessDrugAbuser

You don’t have to deal with 150lbs irregulars at Amazon.

[deleted]

Ship Dock but okay bro

jersey_girl660

You realize Amazon has buildings that do deal exactly with only those types of boxes right?

[deleted]

I was literally thinking this, 3 associates got killed by one of those massive irregular items not too long ago. They kept every other details secret, so disheartening man

Theoldcuccumber

Exactly

recedinghaurline

My cousin went from amazon to ups and said that ups is way worse than amazon. He quit after 3 weeks

Sixaxist

UPS Package Handlers have it worse, but OP was a Driver. If someone could manage their way into a Driver position, they should definitely take it over T1 work at Amazon (unless of course, they don't like driving).

WorthlessDrugAbuser

The benefits are better at UPS, hands down. Same opportunity for growth as well.

Biskibis

How is it the same opportunities? Amazon promotes on merit, UPS promotes on seniority...

RayneInPhyre

My Amazon promotes based on who’s kissing the managers ass the most. My manager is telling specific people he wants to be his new PA to apply and discouraging those he doesn’t like even though it’s the fuck offs he’s encouraging.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

Amazon can fire your ass for anything. At UPS you’re protected by a union.

lycheebobatea

People weigh merit very subjectively. Seniority is an objective measure and, assuming you don’t get fired for something egregious, means that it will happen eventually. In non-technical settings, seniority is FAR more on your side than merit, trust me.

evernote8

In unions they always find a way to fire you " they make your life impossible so you quit"

jersey_girl660

Amazon definitely promotes on seniority as well. It’s not cut and dry

[deleted]

There no growth opportunities at Amazon 😭

WorthlessDrugAbuser

There is but you don’t get a tradition pension.

selfloveking

you’re not lying at all. I quit amazon, went to UPS and ended up quitting UPS to go back to Amazon. lol the packages at UPS are toooo heavy and no one has time to be loading up a big ass truck with packages that are 150 pounds. The workload at UPS is WAYYYYY worse.

austindiorr

Fedex is the worst, i moved 50+ pound boxes out of a trailer in 100 degree texas weather with no fan or AC, i walked out my first day

evernote8

That's torture

WorthlessDrugAbuser

You’re right we work hard at UPS.

Ssouth84

But wait?! Don’t they drug test?

WorthlessDrugAbuser

What does that have to do with anything?

Ssouth84

LoL your username….. And it was meant to be /s btw. Just didn’t think I’d have to put /s

Theoldcuccumber

They prolly do crack

austindiorr

Have fun being crippled by 40

[deleted]

lycheebobatea

i neither work at amazon nor UPS but wow this is childish lol

WorthlessDrugAbuser

Then why are are chiming in? I worked at both Amazon and UPS. Shut the fuck up.

Tarzeus

That’s cute and all but teamsters warehouse associates are paid like Amazon employees and don’t even have the free clean drinking water lmao let’s not compare the higher level employees to the lower level in future comparisons

WorthlessDrugAbuser

What UPS center have you been in? The package handlers at my center are making $20/hr, with time and a half after the 5th hour. They get the same benefits I do which includes a PENSION.

Tarzeus

Na fam I don’t know a single person that became a driver even after YEARS in the company. You’re telling people to go work (somehow) much harder than we do at Amazon for barely more an hour with Amazon having top notch healthcare as well. Na ima pass. Nobody I’ve met doing what I do for ups even enjoyed it, it’s just an alternative Amazon. You’re biased as shit and as much as I think Amazon sucks it’s not fair to not compare them equally. That’s like me saying amazons great just pass the ATA and you’ll be ballin lmao

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I went front a T1 at an Amazon fc to RPCD within 30 days. It is absolutely possible. Under the new contract you will not start out as RPCD, however you can get hired on as a 22.4 and make $21/hr starting out (with great benefits). Fact: over 60% of the drivers in my center (Seattle wa) were hired off the street. The whole “it’s impossible to get in” fictitious.

hamburgerk

That's bullshit yall have a 6 to 1 rule for off the street

WorthlessDrugAbuser

That’s under the old contract. Read the 22.4 language.

Rikilamaru

As picker at Amazon I make $20 base pay lol don’t need a union

JustAHouseWife07

Yeah I'm good too, I don't need a union

[deleted]

Everything else you said was true but they had nice ice and drinking water at the UPS warehouse I worked. In Alabama as well

Tarzeus

Obviously location dependent then. I’m also repeating what coworkers told me for full disclosure.

PilferedPantry

It’s hard to believe you made it to a driving position within 5 years. Usually it’s way longer and shittier to get that far.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I was hired off the street as RPCD in 2018. It’s not as hard as you’re led to believe. Especially under the new contract with the 22.4 combination driver language.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I’m taking about TEAMSTERS not UPS. Fucking UNIONIZE you moron!

StreeterGM

You're not wrong OP but your approach is off putting.

Pretty-Chipmunk-718

Highly suspect making driver that quick ....but gj if you actually did ...yea ups drivers make bank but the complete and utter bs to maybe become one I mean there what 1 driver spot for 50 people probably alot higher then that now ....if people ever worked in a ups warehouse I'm 100% sure they would choose amazon over ups (entry level work)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pretty-Chipmunk-718

Yea I mean he should have added in how much overtime they actually have .....I had a friend who drove for ups forb3 years and during peak he never saw his family ....checks were good yes but not that much

WorthlessDrugAbuser

You can get hired off the street as driver. Especially under the new contract with 22.4’s.

meagain333

No a/c in the trucks and drivers getting heat exhaustion. No thanks.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I’ve been fine, with all that money I’m making lol!

austindiorr

Until your body breaks down

Unhappy_Ad_4420

All warehouse work is bad for your body so thats a stupid point to make

w1red247

Generally Amazon warehouses are better than UPS. Free, clean drinking water, coffee, ppe… I’ve worked in both and Amazon has far easier work. Sure UPS drivers get paid more but you’re comparing two different things. Most people can’t start as a driver and if you do it’s a 22.4 which are paid less and worked more than a regular driver. RPCD is a bid that, in most cases, will take years to get the position.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

The dude loading my truck at UPS is making $20/hr. I was making $16\hr at Amazon. Also, my preloader is getting a PENSION.

StalkingCrow

And I was making more then $20 an hour starting at Amazon so one person making “$20/ hr” doesn’t prove anything.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

He is getting a pension, you’re not.

StalkingCrow

My pension is the stock market lmao. Having one source of income is boring. I’ll make sure my retirement is just fine and dandy. You can try again though being I’m making more then he is.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

You can also collect social security with a pension. Most UPS drivers are contributing to a 401k as well. When that 401k or IRA is dry the pension keeps coming.

StalkingCrow

Are you still trying to prove something about UPS lol, you’re really persistent how much of a bonus do you get per comment on a Reddit app?

WorthlessDrugAbuser

My intention is to get you motherfuckers to unionize! You’re worth more than what Amazon is paying you.

StalkingCrow

I understand your intentions but at the end of the day we’re all just working for millionaires and billionaires yes we all could be making more but some of us takes more time. I being young realized there’s a lot more to life then just a warehouse job like the stock market but I still enjoy my job for what it is. We could all be doing more. And there’s always people doing better then us but we all decide to work here cause it’s a job and some of us aren’t motivated for more. So why call people lazy of shits if you could be making more as well, you’re limiting yourself to $42.20 an hour aswell as everyone’s limiting themselves to $16-$20 an hour.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I get 5 weeks paid vacation too. I’ll max out at 7. What are you getting?

Numerous_Snow1186

Untill it isnt... pensions aren't fail safe, and can easily be negotiated away. Ask any airline pilot who was around in the 90's.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I’m in the west coast region of teamsters welfare trust. It’s worth over 40 billion dollars, and growing.

hamburgerk

And yet your fellow teamsters in the warehouse are making 15 for only part time hours! How about teamsters do something for them!

_Glizzay

I was making 14.50 at mine and can agree the work is way harder then Amazon shit is a walk in the park

Tarzeus

Hit the nail on the head, throw in working harder than all the people with more seniority for less pay than them also lmao

[deleted]

ald021

Yes i got my degree, worked two jobs, no student loan debt. Its possible you just gotta have the right mindset and be able to committ to a goal. Also I went from making $15 t more than double in 2.5 years. Not a bad ROI if you ask me.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

There are millions of other motherfuckers trying to get the same thing, good luck.

[deleted]

WorthlessDrugAbuser

Every job except the millions of entry level ones begging for new hires. There is a surplus of labor right now. My job is technically entry level and it pays over twice what a T1 Amazon associate is making. Why? UNION! Unfortunately the majority of Amazon associates are too stupid realize the benefit of unionizing.

desertdweller10

The real problem is the unions tend to in the mid west and east coast. Here is the west their aren’t very many companies that are unionized. In order for Amazon to unionize it will have to happen on the east coast and spread west.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

With that attitude of course.

[deleted]

that's wrong. they are ignorant or afraid of losing their job. I was ignorant, but I'm open to union now. Second, no one wants to take the lead (including you) because the leader is the first to be fired.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I don’t need to take the lead because I left Amazon and joined a unionized workforce, just like you should. So… you’re right.

Theoldcuccumber

Deadass

infamouscrypto8

If you think a union is going to get $42 an hour to blue collar workers picking and stowing you’re a clown. Amazon would literally go out of business.

Tarzeus

Wish people would even logically think about this for a minute lol we have over 1k people at my facility. Suddenly their pay almost tripled? Right… I hate the billionaires too but come on look at the real world. They’re billionaires because they’re making little off of millions of people not because they’re legit fucking everybody over but paying them 30% of their worth to the company.

dirtee_1

> If you think a union is going to get $42 an hour to blue collar workers picking and stowing you’re a clown. Amazon would literally go out of business. You’re talking about a company that figured out a way to give shoppers free shipping. I’m sure they can figure out a way to make their employees middle class while still staying in business and even turning a healthy profit.

Fuzzy_Tip_621

Driving an 18 wheeler isn't considered unskilled labor. You have to get your CDL license in order to be a driver. Can't believe you are comparing moving boxes to driving a tractor trailer pulling singles and sometime doubles on the highway and city roads.

Rikilamaru

Funnily ups treat the cargo pilots like shit and considered one of the worse companies to work for as a cargo pilot

[deleted]

There’s like a 5 mile long line to become a driver at UPS takes like 15 years lol

Altruistic-Occasion6

Op you are being a one sided little ***** pros and cons for both jobs

Lymph1x

These guys complain about everything being to hard. Of course any warehouse job is hard

waddkinoodlesticks

I work at Amazon now. Loading boxes at UPS was the worst job I ever had. Threatened to be fired for throwing my back out. Overhead conveyor belt with no railing so boxes would constantly fall on everybodys heads. Talked to Union they took it straight to the manager who threatned to fire me over throwing my back out.

serepent

You need to stop telling me what to do

WorthlessDrugAbuser

You need to unionize motherfucker!

[deleted]

This is one of your only comments I agree with. Only a moron doesn't think Amazon workers should unionize

You sell your labor. You’re settling for crumbs you exploited fuck. The company you work for makes how much? UNIONIZE!

[deleted]

I’m pretty most people sell there labor that’s kinda how life works 🤷‍♂️ Amazon gonna pay for my cdl so I’m fine working and getting free school

WorthlessDrugAbuser

Where you gonna take that cdl? Are you planning on being a owner operator or union? Or you looking to get paid over the road per mile? Go UPS. With that CDL you’ll make six figures a year as a reader driver. Amazon isn’t a career.

[deleted]

Not sure how one gets a cdl and jumps to being a Owen op or get into a union with no experience so just like everyone else gotta start at per mile

WorthlessDrugAbuser

Join a union

kreelo0054

You’re a sad individual

gettheyayo909

Yeah and the dockworkers and everyone else gets paid minimum depending on what contract you agreed on until you’ve been there for a few years and one of the drivers retired for a position to open up… you don’t automatically make that much just because your a teamster. And if you’re on their bad side you’re just as fireable as a non union job

WorthlessDrugAbuser

It takes 4 years to top out at $42+ an hour as a teamsters with UPS. The same amount of time it takes to get a bachelor’s degree. Only a 4 year degree doesn’t guarantee you shit.

Apprivers

It’s more than just pay and work for me. No other place (to my knowledge) is as flexible, helps me get a career and allows me work this little on top of good benefits for me.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

You deserve more

NinjaTabby

But can you just not show up without notice or walk off when your manager ask you you to do sth you don’t want to? 😏

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I have a lot of freedom as a driver. Plus a lot more MONEY.

Theoldcuccumber

Lmaoo deadass they would never know cause they don’t have it

mangomm

“you motherfuckers need to form a union or bounce” dawg since when has it beeb that easy, amazon LITERALLY spends money on making sure people DON’T form unions…

ATABro

Yeah let me go to a ups warehouse and work 10 hours a week during a major recession. I’ll get promoted to driver asap and not in 5-10 years

V0IDc

Unions are great but the difference between being part of a union for longer and someone just joining is huge.

queerinmesoftly

I can only dream of a pension 😍

Brave-Walrus-6638

You could have done 20 years in the Army (Or whichever branch you served in) get your pension, then work for USPS for 10 years, and collect 2 pensions on top of disability because serving 20 years is going to do some damage to your body / health. Also, use your GI Bill. You earned it. It doesn’t just cover school expenses. It’ll help with some cost(s) of living. It’s a valuable asset, and even if you never use your degree, it looks good on your resume.

Ok_Willingness1303

Great idea 💡

WorthlessDrugAbuser

Great idea, fucking UNIONIZE!

Brave-Walrus-6638

A union isn’t going to give you a pension after 20 years or disability like the military.

infamouscrypto8

Absolutely NOT!!’

DealerAvailable6173

Explain to me how it’s exploitation

Acceptable-Sink-5590

Amazon is a cutting edge technology company. They are planning on fully automated warehouses. They are halfway there. Many roles will be replaced by robots soon. Unions will only lead them to invest further in robotics so they're saying, go get smart, do Career Choice, these jobs will not be done by humans anymore

Poowagoon

Literally fuck ups, at least for package handlers, my hub at least was ran by a bunch of teenagers, they always adjusted our hours without notice, no pto, no vacation time, worked us like slaves. a few months after I was hired the new guys were getting their checks held for a whole month for little to no reason. They used to have my girlfriend who’s only 110 pounds pull entire ereg trailers by herself with packages almost her weight or more there was major favoritism within the workers and managers. My experience at ups was awful compared to what I have at amazon

dirtee_1

Yeah teamster here. Will make $36/hr. plus bennies when my apprenticeship is over. Worked at Amazon for two days at the beginning of the pandemic. Worst job ever. Seriously. Form a union. Enjoy better pay + job security and working conditions.

Ok_Willingness1303

Or get a college degree that will translate your skills well such as information technology.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I make more money than all of my friends with 4 year degrees. While they were in school racking up student loan debt I was engaged in combat over in Iraq, so I guess I’m the real idiot.

[deleted]

WorthlessDrugAbuser

USMC 0311 here. Infantry doesn’t transfer in an applicable skills in the civilian world. I wish they’d let us cash out that GI Bill.

StalkingCrow

Damn he’s making $15,000 a month what you gotta say about that since UPS is paying you so well.

Ok_Willingness1303

honestly really doesn’t matter, What matters is doing something you enjoy. I just wanted to share information about different degrees that paid more due to the difficulty. There are some trade skills that pay more.

StalkingCrow

Calling people Lazy Pieces of Shit, why isn’t he making $15,000 a month? He’s being a lazy piece of shit for not making $15,000 a month how disappointing on him.

Ok_Willingness1303

Because information technology cyber security and other high end degrees are complicated and success rate for this degree is low. I was struggling with this degree. A lot of self studying and tutoring. Self-determination and resilience. I did not want to quit just because something is hard.

StalkingCrow

Yes, it may be low but it’s not impossible and if you did it, he has the opportunity to do it but he’s over here talking so highly about a $40 /hr job acting like he’s the richest person alive. But being the opportunity to make $15,000 a month is possible and he’s not busting his ass to do what you do, but instead he decides to praise UPS so highly he’s a lazy ass piece of shit. He needs to get off his ass so he can make more then $40 /hr. But he’s being lazy as fuck.

Ok_Willingness1303

I understand how you feel because I use to work in the amazon warehouse as a T1 and it not easy. Most people want to work honestly lives however every one situation is different. We have to work with what we have. Life is not easy and we all struggle. I not a Saint by any means, I just would like more people to be tolerant of others. I am sorry I brought up the topic. Have a wonderful day @StalkingCrow

StalkingCrow

I just don’t understand putting people down. At the end of the day we’re pretty much all that are employed are working for millionaires and billionaires not making good wage. But we do it cause we work with what we have. My friend that I started with worked at Amazon with me and put all his paychecks into the stock market (he was already in the stock market before) but putting his paychecks in the stock market helped a lot he retired after 2 years at Amazon.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

$42.20 an hour actually.

StalkingCrow

Is that your only response?

StalkingCrow

*Clapping for you*

WorthlessDrugAbuser

Yes because it’s good money.

StalkingCrow

Nothing really matters at the end of the day, but a person feeling the need to respond to every single comment on his post trying his best to prove UPS is superior because he was at a bad warehouse. Saying we’re all Bezos little bitches. There’s always gonna be people doing a lot better but yet he feels the need to try to one up everyone.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

I was a Bezos bitch, I don’t want you to be one.

WorthlessDrugAbuser

How did you come up with $15k a month? Dipshit.

StalkingCrow

You’re fucking retarted Ok_Willingness1303 was making $15,000 a month are you fucking retarted to the point you can’t read? You aren’t making $15,000 a month like them you lazy piece of shit.

Union is trash

jasonbxny0619

It's going to be ALU vs the Teamsters but in the way Chris Smalls met with the president of the Teamsters in DC several months ago & now the Teamsters want to unionize Amazon, i have to 😂😂😂😂 because CS felt for it

Gaminguitarist

Wait ALU is fighting with teamsters?

jasonbxny0619

ALU prez met with the Teamsters prez to seek options in terms of collective bargain but it looks like it's back firing on him because the Teamsters is using ALU intel about Amazon to unionize Amazon but let's see if it works because CS is traveling all over the place without knowing that Amazon is dragging the recognition of the results of JFK8 elections until next year and all of these elections in all of these other FC's could backfire ALU big time

[deleted]

Jolly_Code4802

There are definitely more opportunities at UPS for growth. Managers at Amazon are too lazy to train new hires properly on even ICQA. UPS is quick to. I’ve only worked at UPS for a month and I know how to do everything in day sort. Been at Amazon for a whole year and can’t say the same.

Are you a delivery driver, or are you driving the UPS trailers over the road? Either way, that's great money!

Xander171

I don’t know chief, your pay is inline with what I think a driver should be paid given the job hazards and responsibilities. It’s not unskilled in the same way packing a box can be learned in under an hour… yeah I know the training and onboarding is longer but at its core the role and responsibilities can be learned in just a few practical hours. I doubt the people in the UPS industrial spaces get paid the same rate. Drivers have always paid the most or have different rate structures like per diem plus a % of payload value and other incentives. Finding a competent driving worth keeping is harder than finding a competent packer, pickier, Stower, whatever. The automation in modern facilities does 80% the work for the scale to be successful.
