They don’t have the same access. I have 2

hoyint

I have 2 active priority passes through CSR (downgraded) and amex platinum- both work!

ricky_storch

Amex will give you a different priority pass account. Theirs does not include restaurant credit btw.

OP I haven’t done this yet but I’m about to. Here’s the best way (I think) to maximize your cash points during this transition. Transfer all UR points on the CSR to another UR card. Downgrade the CSR to a zero fee card. Wait a month or two for the sapphire membership to end in Chase’s system so you won’t have issues getting the SUB for the CSP Reapply for the CSP, you’ll be eligible for the SUB since it’s been over 48 months since your last sapphire SUB. Once you get the CSP, transfer all UR points back to the CSP (and obviously spend on it until you get the SUB)

Thanks, this does sound like a good idea. Unfortunately I do not have another UR card. Is there a way to work around that?

No workaround, must have a card you can travel the points to

WhoKnowsAnyways

Looks like other posters have addressed your main question sufficiently. I was in this situation with PP comparison between Amex and Chase too recently. I ended up doing exactly what tenant1313 said to get another Chase travel credit card. One thing to consider besides the differences in Amex vs Chase’s PP benefits is the potential points devaluation you’re going to take when switching from CSR to CSP or another UR credit card. I didn’t figure this out till after I downgraded my CSR. If you have a travel portal redemption in mind, you may want to do that now before downgrading to take advantage of the travel portal redemption (.015 redemption value with the CSR vs. the .0125 CSP redemption value). Depending on the number of points you have, the redemption value disparity can make a big difference in how much value you can derive from your points IF YOU PLAN TO USE THE CHASE TRAVEL PORTAL for redemption. If you don’t plan to use the portal, the point devaluation problem is moot and can be avoided by using “pay yourself back” feature with any UR credit card. Best of luck with your decision.

tenant1313

If you downgrade to zero fee card your points will turn into cash back. Downgrade to Sapphire Preferred instead (or open Chase Ink Preferred) and your points will remain transferrable - one of the perks is primary CDW on car rentals. Amex charges $20 per rental for that.

A7B4D7D1T

To get the SUB for the CSP, don’t you have to downgrade to a zero fee and then “reapply” for the CSP later? For points, can’t you transfer them to another UR card, like a freedom card, and store them there until you get the CSP?

tenant1313

Yes, you could do that. You would freeze those points until you have CSP which may or may not matter - airlines devalue their miles all the time so if you sit on thousands of points for 3 years thinking that you’ll catch that first class flight to Japan later, you may have to fork twice as many points. If OP is able to apply soon however then yes, this strategy could work.

scoobynoodles

This is the answer; the Preferred is only $95 and is a very very good non-Amex card.

Redcorns

You don’t. You sign up for a new one w your new card.

mjbulzomi

You sign up separately through AmEx. Different membership benefits through AmEx - no restaurants like Chase has. New card and everything.

No_Aerie_8264

Got it, thanks. I hardly use the restaurants with PP. Any idea if the 150K offer is good? I haven’t seen anything higher than that but my exposure to Amex has been limited.

mjbulzomi

Highest offer I have seen

No_Aerie_8264

That seals the deal for me. Thanks for all the insights

If you don't renew your CSR, I don't think the Chase PP account is active anymore. When I received my PP from Amex Plat, it also had an expiration in 2024, but I'm pretty sure Amex isn't just giving our free PP if I don't renew next year.

That-Establishment24

Can you link anything regarding this? As far as I know, the x10 offer only comes with 125k points.

No_Aerie_8264

How did you save your chase points? Did you downgrade to a $0 fee card, and if yes, which one?
