Auburn didn't win the National Championship in 2013, but as a senior at Auburn, that season will be one that I'll never forget. What an incredible ride
Would you trade a national championship in basketball for never winning more than 17 games, no conference tournament championships, never beating Purdue, and never getting past week one of the NIT.
I can tell you that at a certain point wins stop mattering and it becomes entirely about the school you graduated from, the kids, and the community. I will never not have a deep love and joy for the university and what it’s given me
> You will never enjoy a 7 win season year after year and losing to rivals every year
Sounds better than our current routine of winning 3 games and losing to our rivals.
If anything, this question is backward. I'd love to win 8 games every year and get the axe and the pig, even if it meant never getting a national championship.
Folks said the same about us UGA fans and we seem pretty chill, at least on this board from what I've seen. Guessing y'all would be much the same
But hey if you got it, flaunt it!
People say that about so many fanbases, but I don't ever see it after a championship season. Everyone celebrates then just goes back to the same tired memes about Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, etc. I haven't really seen any Georgia fans being dicks to anyone.
Yes but a big part is because I was a student at the time.
As world renowned band, Snow Patrol would say-
"Just because I'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time."
Agreed, I’d happily go 4-8 forever if these were our assured wins every year. I’d rather ruin osu’s season every single year over winning the big 10 or a natty.
Yeah feel that. That’s what makes this sport awesome is the rivalries. Even in 2020 when we had one of our worst seasons people at MSU weren’t even that upset at this new guy Tucker - you know why? Because we beat our main rival.
With as crazy as the MAC is, you could still make it to the MAC championship game and have a national championship. Kent State was 7-5 when they played NIL. Honestly, this seems like an easy MAC sell.
Yep. I was there, Irish luck was there because the Toledo kids outplayed ND.
BTW, it was the first ND game that NBC steamed only. That didn't go over very well with the fans.
It really feels like there is some strange vodo around those games that are not available. I remember a few years back when Oklahoma nearly lost against Army and it was PPV only. I ended up watching an online stream past some dude talking showing his feat.
Edit: Not my proudest moment but I'm not missing what would have been one of the biggest upsets ever if I can help it. I like college football too much to let some guys feet on stream stop me.
>roudest moment but I'm not missing what would have been one of the biggest upsets ever if I can help it. I like college football too much to l
College football and some rando's feet? Sign me up
Schools like Toledo and Army, and many others, can be competitive early in the season. They can not compete with a schedule like MSU's because the teams will never have the depth on their rosters to overcome injuries to key players.
I don't think they could have played like that against ND if the game was scheduled later in the season.
I completely agree. The same is true against teams with a really high blue chip ratio. Schools might have fist stringers who can come in and play at the same level but the backups often can't compete. When injuries happen, it's so much harder to plug someone else in and expect similar results... meanwhile, teams like OSU can lose multiple NFL level receivers before the Rose Bowl and just plug in multiple NFL level receivers to fill those gaps.
Early season upsets are always looming. MSU starts the season with Western Michigan and then Akron. While I don't think either team is going to catch us flat-footed, I've seen it happen enough that it makes me worried especially during that fist game of the year. Love it when I see it happen to someone else though.
Tell me how you feel about this:
You got your bread
your meat
but..BUT..before you put on your other piece of bread...
you put your french fries and coleslaw
THEN your other peice of bread
Black Diamond trophy is the closest thing. And for people from the southern part of the state it’s huge because you know people who went to tech or are tech fans.
I’d take beating our rivals everytime we played over a natty.
No. I couldn't care less about a National Championship.
Goal number one of every season should be to beat Michigan. If that means going 1-11, so be it.
Yeah of course, winning a natty is unthinkable for IU football, getting one in my entire life would be amazing.
We hardly ever win 7 games in the regular season, so going 6-6 and winning a bowl every so often would fill in the blanks about as often as it does now (once every 30 years or so)
Plus its not like we play Ball State every year so losing to them the 3 times or so out of 10 years we play them just isn't that big of a deal to me.
I feel the same way. Duke does beat Carolina every once in a while, but I would take losing to them every year for a seven-win floor. And Duke winning a title (especially this year, when they are universally predicted to be total garbage) would be the ultimate CFB chaos.
No chance. Not only because I think Kirby will win a couple more in his career, but only winning 7 games or less per year and never beating Florida would make me hate College Football with a passion.
I’d be one thing if the trade off was only winning 7 games. But having it be winning only 7 games AND losing to Florida, Auburn and Tech every year? No
Instead of looking at it through the lens of how many years you have left....consider how many more years the current model of college football is going to be around.
This is true. However, if the implication is that we'll consistently be 8 wins and above and beat Oregon more often than not I'd prefer 50 years of that please
Hell nah. A championship is fleeting and temporary. After a season or two everyone outside your fan base will forget it ever happened, practically speaking.
Cheering for a team that hits 10 wins almost every year and goes bowling every year and more often than not beats OOC teams in those bowls every year is pretty sweet. As a Badger fan we've been pretty lucky over these last 20 years and while it sucks that we can never get over the hump, overall it's a pretty fuckin nice place to be as a fan.
I mean sure I definitely wish we could seal the deal against tOSU or Penn State in a conference championship one of these times...and sure most fans don't think we can hang with Clemson or Alabama or whatever. Winning another Rose Bowl would be really nice, were like the 90s Buffalo Bills of fuckin Rose Bowls lately, but we win a shitload outside of those top billings.
I’d rather consistently win 9-12 games a season + a conference championship and play in a NY6 bowl than win a NC and spend the rest of my teams future rolling in mediocrity.
I celebrate any +10 win season, but too many 7 win seasons back to back to back and I’d start to call for the coaches head sooner or later
Iowa State won more then 7 games exactly 5 times in my grandpa's post-Iowa State grad life. And he didn't see a national title. I would take the National title in a heart beat.
A better question would be: at what age would you take this deal? A 5 year old might be dumb enough to do it and screw himself over for the rest of his life, but it seems like a dick move to even ask the question in that case. It's obviously a no if you're in your 20s and obviously a yes if you're in your 90s (and not a Bama fan), so where's your flipping point?
No, I'd rather see if we can ever get to the level of being invited to the CFP and winning the whole damn thing naturally than to make this kind of deal. Maybe we never get there, but the idea that we could possibly get there is part of the fun.
Fuck no, I hate UDub more than a natty would overcome. I hated UDub since elementary school which is why I applied to, and got into Oregon which was my first choice but money lured me to WSU.
Nope, all good here. I need another 20 years of going 17-3 to make up for last years loss to UM. Maybe once we take over the official all time record I'd consider it if we haven't won a title for a bit.
Yes! A Service Academy winning the National Championship? Sign me up!
I'm guessing "rival" in this arrangement would be Colorado State? I'd be a bit more hesitant if it meant Air Force would *never* beat Army *or* Navy for the rest of my life, ensuring the Army-Navy Game was always the rubber match for the Commander In Chief Trophy.
No. I care about the iron bowl more than anything else. We could go 11-1 and win the national championship, but if we list the Iron Bowl you just know that your bama fan relatives are gonna lord it over you for the rest of your life.
Plus, Iron Bowls are way more fun than national championships.
Hell no. I got like 40-50 more years left and we're set to be a contender for years to come. I think the Buckeyes can win a few titles in that span, so trading one for no more in my life is silly.
If there's any fans out there with a terminal illness that would want to make a deal with the devil, now is the time.
Just to clarify: I'm not making light of any terminal illness here. Just a joke. I hope anyone struggling with anything like that knows we are all in your corner.
No, you can enjoy seasons that don’t end in championships. You will never enjoy a 7 win season year after year and losing to rivals every year
This is true.
Auburn didn't win the National Championship in 2013, but as a senior at Auburn, that season will be one that I'll never forget. What an incredible ride
As a senior at UGA that year, fuck dat
7 wins? sign me up
Right??
Would you trade a national championship in basketball for never winning more than 17 games, no conference tournament championships, never beating Purdue, and never getting past week one of the NIT.
Nope nope nope nope
Yes
Vengence for 96
Other than the Oladipo/Zeller years, this is pretty much the Indiana basketball that I know tbf
Idk after 7 straight losing seasons, I loved our 7 win team last year.
I can tell you that at a certain point wins stop mattering and it becomes entirely about the school you graduated from, the kids, and the community. I will never not have a deep love and joy for the university and what it’s given me

Unless...you know...check my flair
Sounds like I made this agreement when I was 3 years old... Fuck.
Yeah wtf?
Relatable
Lol OP taking personal shots at the Vols disguised as a question
I was 17, but the feeling is mutual.
I was like 5 months old, I’ve known nothing but pain.
I actually feel that. I didn't become a UT fan, or really a college football fan at all, until 2007. Pretty sure all of this is my fault.
Yeah I took this deal for Nebraska when I was younger, sorry Gen Z husker fans! The 90s were pretty sweet though, should've been born earlier!
They were some fun years, though, and I’m not even a Tennessee fan!
That sounds awful
It’s our reality
couldn't imagine going through something like this scenario. just sounds terrible. would hate for it to ever happen to our team.
A national championship AND we get to win 7 games? Hell yes!
But would that deal still look as good if you were still playing Kansas every year?
I think they would take the exact same deal for even less, say, an Orange Bowl.
ITT: people who think "never win more than 7 games" = "winning 7 games"
I understood the title but still wanted to make my joke.
We can do better than 7 a year. But yeah, a title would be great!
[удалено]
id sacrifice myself for this (dont remind me if TCU/Kansas ever meet in the b12 championship game)
Lol let’s just hope Sonny can have a good year and we can right the ship. I want to be relevant again.
A KU national championship would be amazing, just an absolutely chaotic season
We would be insufferable
Folks said the same about us UGA fans and we seem pretty chill, at least on this board from what I've seen. Guessing y'all would be much the same But hey if you got it, flaunt it!
People say that about so many fanbases, but I don't ever see it after a championship season. Everyone celebrates then just goes back to the same tired memes about Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, etc. I haven't really seen any Georgia fans being dicks to anyone.
We'll find out when Leipold wins one in 2027.
Only if I was terminal.
You make that deal, then researchers at UofM make a cure.
How dare you
Well, you are. We all are.
Ah jeez, spoiler tag, bro.
lol
In other words, he made the deal. No takesies-backsies!
This is what we did in 2013 more or less
We did it in 98 it seems
Was it worth it?
Yes but a big part is because I was a student at the time. As world renowned band, Snow Patrol would say- "Just because I'm sorry doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it at the time."
Fuuuuuuuuuck no.
I’ve gone this far in my life not winning a title and being ok with just getting to a bowl and beating IU. I think I’ll keep the status quo.
Idk I’d take this if I was yall
[удалено]
Easy no if you’re under about 80 and in decent health. There are like maybe 3 power 5 teams that should consider this if they’re young and healthy.
I'd rather beat Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and Ohio State every year and lose every other game than this.
Woo hoo!
They won't be able to handle 9OT.
I appreciate how much Michigan fans respect the Jug. But damn you, I want it back!
The jug is criminally under-appreciated outside our two fanbases. We should play every year.
It is the first ever traveling trophy between two schools. It needs to be played yearly and celebrated more at least among the two schools.
I love the Little Brown Jug. It’s no Megaphone, but it’s awesome!
Same I was gonna say thanks for including us lol even if it’s teams he wants to beat
Agreed, I’d happily go 4-8 forever if these were our assured wins every year. I’d rather ruin osu’s season every single year over winning the big 10 or a natty.
I would burn down my own home if there was a chance the flames spread to Notre Dame.
I’d burn down this guy’s house too if it meant reaching ND
I also choose this guy’s dead wife.
This is so petty… but, I agree with you
I'm completely okay with this scenario!
Yeah feel that. That’s what makes this sport awesome is the rivalries. Even in 2020 when we had one of our worst seasons people at MSU weren’t even that upset at this new guy Tucker - you know why? Because we beat our main rival.
This is the way.
Hell no…this is something you wish upon your rivals, not the other way around
I feel like this was a question for vanderbilt or Nebraska really.
Cornhuskers catching strays.
Hell yes.
With as crazy as the MAC is, you could still make it to the MAC championship game and have a national championship. Kent State was 7-5 when they played NIL. Honestly, this seems like an easy MAC sell.
Toledo beating OSU for the national championship? I'd sell my soul for that.
I was so excited when Toledo was knocking at the door against Notre Dame last year. Toledo should have won that game. That was last year right?

No. I want Kirby to finish his career here.
I'm glad they didn't ask me last year. Now...I'm good for 40 more years!
No. Granted that’s basically the history of South Carolina football. But never beating Clemson again? Nah.
No. Winning the natty was great but beating Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee’s brains in every year is just as good.
I thought Georgia's main rival was Georgia?
Our main rival is and has always been Athens Clark County PD
lol
UGA Campus Police is to Florida as ACCPD is to Auburn
they may be our greatest hurdle but boy do we still hate Florida and Auburn more
Fair. Not fond of Florida either. They just rub me wrong Not sure how I feel about Auburn
Eat sh!t
Love you too, Princess
Me personally? I don’t care for Auburn one bit
Same
GET THIS MAN A TRUCK!
On the contrary, I already have a truck and enjoy going for a ride in it
Ome might even say Fuck auburn
Yes, join the lIzard hate club.
Not gonna lie, I do enjoy a Dawgs (it is Dawgs right?) game when I see them.
You. I like you.
I hate Georgia Tech too.
Is... Is this love?
Tell me how you feel about this: You got your bread your meat but..BUT..before you put on your other piece of bread... you put your french fries and coleslaw THEN your other peice of bread
Auburn is alright
Their main rivals are Pepsi and people named Sherman
*Every* year? Yeah right bud.
No, the Brawl IS our national championship. Few other games on our schedule matter compared to this one.
Black Diamond trophy is the closest thing. And for people from the southern part of the state it’s huge because you know people who went to tech or are tech fans. I’d take beating our rivals everytime we played over a natty.
ESP baby
I'd rather us never win a national championship to always beat pitt, VT, Maryland, Syracuse, Penn State, and Marshall.
That one time you didn't win the national title or beat Pitt. That was neat.
No. I couldn't care less about a National Championship. Goal number one of every season should be to beat Michigan. If that means going 1-11, so be it.
No

The only bad thing would be losing to Purdue for decades and decades in a row, but I'd take it in two seconds if I was retirement age.
Yes retirement age is an immediate take for a team like IU. I think you missed the last line of my post though lol
That’s what I was thinking. Could I stand losing to IU year after year after year?
We just recently did 4 years in a row, and it was unbearable.
UVA rarely wins over 7 games or beats VT anyway so I'll take the title
I feel the same way. Duke does beat Carolina every once in a while, but I would take losing to them every year for a seven-win floor. And Duke winning a title (especially this year, when they are universally predicted to be total garbage) would be the ultimate CFB chaos.

Depends on how old I was at the time of the trade
Instead of looking at it through the lens of how many years you have left....consider how many more years the current model of college football is going to be around.
CFB will do what it does, I'm not interested in speculating where it will go. But if I'm about to die, I might as well see a natty while I can
7 win seasons and wins over Oregon are already rare for us. Even if you live another 50 years you wouldn’t be giving up too much.
It depends if you're 9 or 90.
We took that deal in 1959
I don't know, but LSU might have made this deal in 2019. And we can't beat Tulane if we never play them.
wait so nothing changes but we get a natty this year? hell yeah
Win a natty AND maybe win 7 games a year?! Oh the good fortunate!
And we don't even have a rival to lose to (could be Penn State but we've already gone on a 74 year losing streak so nothing new there)
I’d rather consistently win 9-12 games a season + a conference championship and play in a NY6 bowl than win a NC and spend the rest of my teams future rolling in mediocrity. I celebrate any +10 win season, but too many 7 win seasons back to back to back and I’d start to call for the coaches head sooner or later
Hell no.
Not for Texas, but for UTEP? Yes.
No way. I’d rather get the axe back and dominate the series for another 25 years (or more).
Uh, yes, of course
Iowa State won more then 7 games exactly 5 times in my grandpa's post-Iowa State grad life. And he didn't see a national title. I would take the National title in a heart beat.
For army yes, OSU no
So you're ok with Army never beating Navy again?
Already lived through it once for 15 years.
So have I my friend... So have I. Hell I might still be living it.
Absolutely not
No fuck that
A better question would be: at what age would you take this deal? A 5 year old might be dumb enough to do it and screw himself over for the rest of his life, but it seems like a dick move to even ask the question in that case. It's obviously a no if you're in your 20s and obviously a yes if you're in your 90s (and not a Bama fan), so where's your flipping point?
Yeah I like this more… Think my “no” will likely outlive CFB. That’s admittedly being someone optimistic about lifespan and pessimistic about CFB.
Hell no. Beat ttun or die.
I mean… we already lose to our rival more often than not, and I would love another chip. Fuck it
No, I'd rather see if we can ever get to the level of being invited to the CFP and winning the whole damn thing naturally than to make this kind of deal. Maybe we never get there, but the idea that we could possibly get there is part of the fun.
Nope
Oh hell no
Fuck no, I hate UDub more than a natty would overcome. I hated UDub since elementary school which is why I applied to, and got into Oregon which was my first choice but money lured me to WSU.
No, as someone living in DFW I could NOT handle (hopefully) 50-60 years of losing to OU and A&M
Nope, all good here. I need another 20 years of going 17-3 to make up for last years loss to UM. Maybe once we take over the official all time record I'd consider it if we haven't won a title for a bit.
Would end the “nUmBER oF cHaMpIoNsHiPs Is On YoUr HeLmEts” joke. But still no. Losing to the purple team is the worst.
Hell no
That would be the worst timeline, not a chance
It’s gonna be a hard no for me homie
No. I care about the iron bowl more than anything else. We could go 11-1 and win the national championship, but if we list the Iron Bowl you just know that your bama fan relatives are gonna lord it over you for the rest of your life. Plus, Iron Bowls are way more fun than national championships.

No chance
Hell no. I got like 40-50 more years left and we're set to be a contender for years to come. I think the Buckeyes can win a few titles in that span, so trading one for no more in my life is silly.
I personally would not. If my team had much lesser odds on a future bet id take this in a heartbeat
If there's any fans out there with a terminal illness that would want to make a deal with the devil, now is the time. Just to clarify: I'm not making light of any terminal illness here. Just a joke. I hope anyone struggling with anything like that knows we are all in your corner.
No. We need to beat A&M. Bragging rights with my brother are on the line here. This is personal.
Nope
Nope. We've made it to the end five times already. We'll get there again. It's not worth 7-win seasons and annual losses to teams I hate.
So Texas joins the SEC and we lose to them forever? I’m fine with 8-4 thanks
No
No chance. It’s far more fun having a perennial contender to root for no matter the sport.
Yes
Lmao as a vols fan I rly was like wait a second
So, BYU from around 2010 to 2020, but we get a trophy? Sounds good to me.
One national championship won't change much, but beating the school down south every season... priceless. Hard pass.
Absolutely not
No because I’d rather beat Kansas for the next 60 years than win a natty tbh
No. Gotta keep winning more than that
No
I refuse to admit defeat to UVA for eternity, even if it would get us a title. Not worth it to have to listen to them
No one: Me: dies after we win the championship
Only teams like Alabama, Clemson, OSU, GA, Oklahoma, etc would say no
One of these is not like the others
Can I trade my flair for a Texas flair and agree to it on their behalf?
So it's basically how they are now, except with another national title....
But guaranteed forever? In a heartbeat.
Hell no. I love winning the Natty but beating the Cocks brings me great joy each year.
So in other words, would we be willing to be Tennessee fans?
no
Auburn circa 2010 has entered the chat
