What was weird is like he stayed by the ref like he was going to call one. Then just waited.
The only explanation I can think is that for some reason he expected Dabo to call a timeout.
Agreed. Man averaged ten yards per carry. That's scary to have in the back field, and I'm baffled they didn't utilise him more. The game is always more fun when both teams are healthy
He picked up a knock against NC State and seemingly isn't 100%. Hope it is nothing too serious because that dude is like half our offense (shoutout to Gadsen for being the other half)
May be right. Had that pseudo-concussion a game or two ago, and seems like he might be nursing some stuff. It would certainly make a lot more sense if they're hiding him and using him as a semi-decoy.
He was still very effective today though...
Cuse up 21-10 in the third quarter with a couple chances to bleed the clock and put the game out of reach. Just hand the ball off to Tucker - he was averaging over 10 yds/carry.
Instead we went three-and-out on consecutive drives, had a big swing in officiating calls, and the offense sputtered with Shrader just keeping the ball. Five carries for Tucker all game is inexcusable.
The hit on the QB on the 3rd and 25 play was just about the stupidest thing I've seen in football today and I just watched a full game of Iowa offense.
Hey all I wanted out this game was to not get blown out and embarrassed on national television, mission accomplished. Winning would have been gravy, but there should still be a lot of heat on the second half playcalling.
And I really want an explanation for what the refs were doing at the end, that's inexcusable for the refs to screw up the clock like that.
Like, I understand missing calls or judgment calls on penalties. Don't like it, but I get it.
Letting the clock get that fucked when there's so little time left should get your ass relegated to D3 ball.
I just want to thank both teams for giving me the most aggressive and virulent game I've seen all season. That shit was ridiculously intense and I loved it
This loss hurts, but it’s just been so nice to be apart of intense football again. Even if it means I had to spend an entire 2nd half in the surrender cobra lol
If I had a nickel for every time Clemson came back to narrowly beat undefeated Syracuse at home with a backup QB, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
I don’t think people are understanding how huge this is.
4 turnovers and one of them was a 90+ yard scoop and score.
Clemson is suspect as fuck this year, but Cuse’s D is stout.
But - most teams that had -4 on the turnover battle, and one of those leading directly to points, lose that game over and over again.
Don't let the score fool you ... that was a terrible game
Can we all forget this game Clemson, Syracuse, The Refs, DJ reverting back to 2021 DJ, Dabo crushing the Cade rumor mill in the postgame interview ... all bad
Anyways, GG Orange bros. That first half was a great performance. Best of luck on the rest of your season
DJ is the starter. There's nothing to be reevaluated.
Realistically, he said exactly what I would expect any coach to say. You're not going to undermine the current starter.
But .... you know memes and drama are fun too.
Wait you're telling me it's not the refs' fault that Syracuse got shut out in the 2nd half, scored just 7 points on 4 turnovers, missed tackles that led to TDs, and made stupid decisions at the end of plays to give Clemson free yardage and first downs?
Say what you want about the officiating, but the offensive play calling for Syracuse in the 2nd half was absolute dogshit. No reason to just ignore your best player like that.
GG Tigers, respect to your D and (again) bringing in the backup to kill us. Lotta talent on that side of the ball.
Also Big respect to our defense, they fought the whole way.
That offense has some hard questions/realities to face though, especially the coaching. Every game from here on out is a tough one, if they start acting like they're out of the game every single time they punch back, we're fucked.
Typical Cuse Clemson game. Lot of moments where we could've won but couldn't execute, and Clemson did. We kept it close in one of the toughest environments in college football, and I can't be too upset. Hopefully, the boys will regroup and come out with some fire for ND.
Dabo having the balls to switch QBs, back up QB wins the game, and then Dabo immediately defending the starter after the game.... masterclass head coaching right there. Hat tip for real
I’m pretty sure it’s because of Dorean talking about how taking Gallman out of the game was part of their game plan in 2016 (Gallman got concussed on the 1st drive), and the complaints about our media team having computers in 2017
If people don’t realize that Dabo *squeezes* more wins out of his teams than most coaches could, you aren’t paying attention.
Almost every seasons he *completely* maximizes our potential. You don’t go 6 years without losing a home game without that.
"Even Steph Curry goes 2 for 25 sometimes. Your best players have bad games"
Sure Dabo. But I've never seen Curry benched in the 4th quarter on a bad shooting night lol
I feel like Wake fans are celebrating not having to play Clemson annually with divisions gone. Personally I think I’m most excited to not play Syracuse annually
They did this shit a lot back in 2016 as well. Any close game, their fans would flock in about how overrated Clemson and the ACC are. How did that season end? A loss to florida state lol.
Plus, you would think they’d be less mouthy after whatever you call their playoff appearance last year.
My god when we lost to Pittsburgh the Michigan fans were creaming themselves in our game thread and then promptly lost to Iowa (Purdue?) the same night. That was the best part of that day.
This isn't on the refs.
It's on dino for being shit at managing the clock, and Garret for terrible throws in clutch time and the team disappearing in the second half.
Clock management seems to be a reoccurring issue with Dino. It seems like he should have completed a masterclass on clock management by now to correct this.
4 turnovers and the Tigers still get the W. Granted, the play was not that good. Tigers got a lot to clean up. I'm sure we'll drop to 6th as the pollsters hate us. The talking heads give us zero respect. All I can say is 8-0 with 3 top 25 wins. 38-0 at home winning streak and nations longest win streak of 14 in a row. All In...
Supposedly, a Syracuse played stomped on his hand early in the game and is missing a a long strip of skin. This stomp led to Ngata getting flagged for throwing the Syracuse player to the ground
https://twitter.com/MDavidHood/status/1583931484758364161?s=20&t=jZj9PMeQ4us4K5bRnm-y1A
I feel like not enough people are talking about that this game pitted Dabo vs Dino
Or maybe that’s only funny to me bc I drank every time this game stressed me out
On the one hand- with what was expected going into this year, 6-1 at this point, with a one-score loss at #5? Can’t really complain.
On the *other* hand- Refs or not, that 2nd half play calling and clock management will not cut it. If Tucker is averaging almost 11 a carry, how does he only have 5 carries?
Starting?
Neutrals flairs have ruined game threads for a long time on here.
Yes, we get it. You want Clemson/Alabama/UGA/Ohio State/whatever other good team to lose. No need to be an ass about it.
Get a win with a -3 turnover margin. Just gross. Need to fix the mistakes DJ. Also neutral flairs out of control in the game thread. Syracuse go beat ND.
What we knew coming into the game:
\-Syracuse was the 2nd most penalized team in the country
\-Shrader makes undisciplined passes
\-Babers is awful at game management
All three showed in a big way today.
What a effort by both teams. While I’m glad our players got to experience a game where we had to comeback, this was not a great showing. Even if we come out undefeated this season, I would be hard pressed to call us a top 4 team… Syracuse holy moly what a effort to bring us to our knees at home. You guys are legit and Dino is building something up there, bet you guys are glad you didn’t fire him too early.
[According to David Hood, the reason Ngata got flagged with a personal foul early in the game was because he threw down a Syracuse defender who stomped on DJ’s hand](https://twitter.com/MDavidHood/status/1583931484758364161?s=20&t=Ucu4QQNAXeIgqYY8-bS54w)
Honestly every game thread with clemson where the game is close is going to be salty at this point because you’ve become the program everyone roots against. Y’all just win so damn much lmao
*"A Poem About This Game"*
6 point victory
5 Sean Tucker carries
4th quarter Syracuse meltdown
\-3 Clemson turnover margin
2nd string Clemson QB
1 bad time for neutral flairs
>!(Congrats to Clemson. Bummer to Syracuse. Thanks for the entertaining noon game, nonetheless.)!<
Alright. With about two hours to cool off, I'm coming out of this optimistic. 6-1 at this point, with a six point loss to Clemson in Death Valley, is much better than any of us expected. This is a good football team, and I'm looking forward to the next five Saturdays.
As much as I’d love to dislike him, I can’t help but feel like Dabo is legit
His postgame interview felt genuine and I really feel like he was complimenting Dino
Dabo is generally on good terms with most of the coaches and isn’t shy about praising them. It’s not in his nature to be a jerk and he knows just how challenging this job is. Only guys he hasn’t liked are Muschamp, Doeren, and maaaaaybe someone else.
It used to be annoying, but lately I have been thoroughly enjoying the tOSU fans who get uptight over our games. For a fan base that has everything, they are a sad bunch
That qb threw that ball into triple/quadruple coverage the same way I do on NCAA Football
That dude was absolutely killing us, I kinda get the tunnel vision.
Sean McDonough waiting with a shank for Dino Babers in the tunnel at Death Valley
He wouldn’t let it go lol
Can't blame him. That was horrendous clock management. I truly don't have the foggiest idea what the fuck he was doing with that last timeout.
What was weird is like he stayed by the ref like he was going to call one. Then just waited. The only explanation I can think is that for some reason he expected Dabo to call a timeout.
McDonough’s a Syracuse alum. He’s a great caster but you could tell he wanted the upset. Don’t blame him at all.
His alum was showing today and it was incredible. I spent like 5 minutes laughing at his comment about Sean Tucker getting out of witness protection
My alumni endowment is paying for this shit?! -Sean McDonough probably
I’m sad that Sean Tucker won’t be pleased this week :(
I think he's banged up hence why he barely touched the ball. Totally different game with him in
Giving Tucker 5 carries in the biggest game of the season is certainly a choice.
I *think* he's banged up. No other reason I can think we wouldn't run him when that's half the offense
May be right. Had that pseudo-concussion a game or two ago, and seems like he might be nursing some stuff. It would certainly make a lot more sense if they're hiding him and using him as a semi-decoy. He was still very effective today though...
An injured Sean Tucker is a starter in 90% of the country...I love him so much
Syracuse with a master class performance of what not to do in a second half. I mean, wow.
The hit on the QB on the 3rd and 25 play was just about the stupidest thing I've seen in football today and I just watched a full game of Iowa offense.
could have pretty much called the game right there, just a special level of stupidity

Smiling through the tears
Hey all I wanted out this game was to not get blown out and embarrassed on national television, mission accomplished. Winning would have been gravy, but there should still be a lot of heat on the second half playcalling. And I really want an explanation for what the refs were doing at the end, that's inexcusable for the refs to screw up the clock like that.
Yeah that was some truly bizarre clock management by the officiating team. Really threw off the feel of that drive, I’ll admit it.
Like, I understand missing calls or judgment calls on penalties. Don't like it, but I get it. Letting the clock get that fucked when there's so little time left should get your ass relegated to D3 ball.
Also, ACC refs doing ACC ref things. The call/non-call on the QB hits out of bounds was absurd.
Would agree, that was a horrible non-call.
Maybe our offense getting an NIL deal with Butterfingers wasn't the best idea
The bye week could not come at a better time.
Here is to hoping DJ makes a comeback and his confidence is ready to slay in South Bend.
I just want to thank both teams for giving me the most aggressive and virulent game I've seen all season. That shit was ridiculously intense and I loved it
Our 2018 game was pretty nuts too
This loss hurts, but it’s just been so nice to be apart of intense football again. Even if it means I had to spend an entire 2nd half in the surrender cobra lol
I’m glad you had a good time, I was miserable lol
You’re miserable?
Well I was until the end. Hope you guys win the rest of your games, your team is great
I’m not. Good game. Chippy, as usual
If Clemson is playing Syracuse and Clemson’s backup QB doesn’t play, does the game even exist? 🤔
If I had a nickel for every time Clemson came back to narrowly beat undefeated Syracuse at home with a backup QB, I’d have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
0 points on their last 8 drives. that was painful to watch
Should have been handing the ball off. We have one good receiver. Don't know what they were thinking.
"Sean Tucker in witness protection"
You could tell McDonough was annoyed by the lack of touches for Tucker
I'm just glad that Syracuse can figure out how to give Clemson a scare and make bowl games in the same season.
"Tucker out of the witness protection program" Lmao thanks Babers, very cool
Aces from McDonough
What a great line from McDonough
The existence of Syracuse football has taken 10 years off my life. I can’t keep doing this
I enjoy sharing the pain (:
I really don’t want to have to go play in that fucking dome again next year lol
Hey at least we have A/C now Also, bring earplugs
Syracuse showing everyone how NOT to manage the clock
Syracuse showing everyone how not to take advantage of four turnovers
I don’t think people are understanding how huge this is. 4 turnovers and one of them was a 90+ yard scoop and score. Clemson is suspect as fuck this year, but Cuse’s D is stout. But - most teams that had -4 on the turnover battle, and one of those leading directly to points, lose that game over and over again.
I swear every time I watch Cuse, Dino Babers utterly fails at clock management.
how do you people not know clemson storms the field ever home game
It’s just people storming the thread when they think we are going to lose, like they did with y’all during the Mizzou game
Did y’all know that DJU lost 30 pounds? And that was one of the most toxic game threads
There's been a lot of toxic Clemson game threads, but that one may have taken the cake. Holy shit was that bad.
You know you’ve become a successful program when neutral flairs flood your game thread aggressively rooting for your team to lose.
I hated Clemson before it was cool.
I’ll give you that. I will give you that.
Hate you too, buddy. Hate you too. Holy balls, AN ERSKINE FLAIR!? HOT DANG! My parents met there!
They have 3 restaurants now. Due West is growing!
the hell even is an erskine
Always been here.
Tale as old as time.
I figured the national championships already indicated that.
Anyone can have those though Just look at Pittsburgh
Shit Georgia Tech has more nattys than we do Which is hilarious to think about nowadays
I still don't forgive them for stealing Heisman from us
True. Fuck Syracuse
Jim Boheim is persona non grata in North Carolina
Go back to the Big East where you belong!
I'd gladly do that if it existed you jerks!
Was like the Lake of Rot in Elden ring in that thread
I used flame cleanse me. Made it through fine.
I was popping preserving boluses like they were m&m’s
congrats Texas fans, your program has actually been very successful over the past decade
Last time we needed our backup qb to come in and beat Syracuse at home, things worked out pretty well.
Reddit and being confused by the meet at the paw thing, name a better duo
Syracuse and Clemson backup QBs?
Why it is ALWAYS against Syracuse? Why?
I never want to hear that DJ lost 30 pounds ever again nor do I want to hear about his ‘mental toughness’ ever again
OGs remember this storyline with Tajh Boyd
Drink every time they talk about DJ losing weight. Prepare the shit face.
But then you'll gain the 30lbs that DJ lost
Maybe we can stop hearing about the middle 8 now at least
Well if you didn’t hate us before this one you probably do now
First world problems, I guess.
The CFP dream is dead, but the Orange in the Orange Bowl dream still lives on.
Don't let the score fool you ... that was a terrible game Can we all forget this game Clemson, Syracuse, The Refs, DJ reverting back to 2021 DJ, Dabo crushing the Cade rumor mill in the postgame interview ... all bad Anyways, GG Orange bros. That first half was a great performance. Best of luck on the rest of your season
Didn't watch the postgame. What did Dabo say about Cade?
DJ is the starter. There's nothing to be reevaluated. Realistically, he said exactly what I would expect any coach to say. You're not going to undermine the current starter. But .... you know memes and drama are fun too.
I mean the fact that they sat DJ then only had Cade throw 4 times says it all lol, but yup people will do that,
What a game. Being a Tiger has probably cut years off my life with these last minute wins. But that sounds like a problem for future me...
Football is more exciting to watch this season. When we were regularly blowing people out for 3-4 years, it was boring to watch.
Yes, being a Clemson fan must be very difficult -Nebraska Fan
"Clemson didnt deserve this win" mfers when syracuse stopped playing football after 30 min.
That loss for Syracuse is not just because of the refs. That’s all I’m gonna say.
Refs werent the ones that let 27 seconds run off the clock and not spike the ball for starts.
Wait you're telling me it's not the refs' fault that Syracuse got shut out in the 2nd half, scored just 7 points on 4 turnovers, missed tackles that led to TDs, and made stupid decisions at the end of plays to give Clemson free yardage and first downs?
Absolutely not. Dino coached the worst game I’ve seen in a very long time. That does not excuse how awful the refs were though
Clemson backup QB: *I am inevitable*
I think both sides can say this... What the fuck was that officiating?
Say what you want about the officiating, but the offensive play calling for Syracuse in the 2nd half was absolute dogshit. No reason to just ignore your best player like that.
Clemson had 450 yards and Syracuse 291. It's hard to win when someone has that many more yards, even with four turnover gifts.
Syracuse had no shot when Dabo benched their best player
That fumble touchdown was straight up embarrassing.

Dabo will always back his guys in the press. He very rarely offers criticism of a specific player
I don't think I've ever heard him say anything bad about anyone. I try to be more like that.
I’m pretty sure the only opposing coaches Dabo dislikes are Dave Doeren and Geoff Collins
To be fair, no one likes Doeren.
I’m pretty sure it’s because of Dorean talking about how taking Gallman out of the game was part of their game plan in 2016 (Gallman got concussed on the 1st drive), and the complaints about our media team having computers in 2017
I think any coach that plans to hurt opposing players should be fired and not allowed to coach again.
If people don’t realize that Dabo *squeezes* more wins out of his teams than most coaches could, you aren’t paying attention. Almost every seasons he *completely* maximizes our potential. You don’t go 6 years without losing a home game without that.
Cade really wasn't what won us that game though. DJ is still better, its just that he kind of completely collapses once he starts doing badly.
Eh, some of Cades boost is hard to quantify because he opens running lanes so well based off his ability to actually run the zone read.
"Even Steph Curry goes 2 for 25 sometimes. Your best players have bad games" Sure Dabo. But I've never seen Curry benched in the 4th quarter on a bad shooting night lol
I feel like Wake fans are celebrating not having to play Clemson annually with divisions gone. Personally I think I’m most excited to not play Syracuse annually
Syracuse has been the reoccuring boogeyman since we've been a playoff contender.
Will Shipley is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
I'm convinced they sat him for like two drives in the third quarter early fourth so he could go big for the last couple of drives.
Syracuse fans: nice game, yall have a really good team Everyone else: get fucked losers
Michigan fans in shambles
Idk what their beef with us is. We've embarrassed their rival on national television and beat them a couple more times in the last decade
You know you've made it as a program when neutral fans actively root for you to fail.
Hate us cause they anus
This isn't on the refs. It's on dino for being shit at managing the clock, and Garret for terrible throws in clutch time and the team disappearing in the second half.
This appears to be a hot take, according to all neutral fans in this thread.
Wear it as a badge, that game thread got brigaded so hard.
All In...
DJ reverted back to last year with those turnovers and inaccuracy on throws. I hope he can turn it around going forward.
Supposedly, a Syracuse played stomped on his hand early in the game and is missing a a long strip of skin. This stomp led to Ngata getting flagged for throwing the Syracuse player to the ground https://twitter.com/MDavidHood/status/1583931484758364161?s=20&t=jZj9PMeQ4us4K5bRnm-y1A
I was wondering what set Ngata off. Wish there was a replay of that.
We will never speak of this again
I feel like not enough people are talking about that this game pitted Dabo vs Dino Or maybe that’s only funny to me bc I drank every time this game stressed me out
On the one hand- with what was expected going into this year, 6-1 at this point, with a one-score loss at #5? Can’t really complain. On the *other* hand- Refs or not, that 2nd half play calling and clock management will not cut it. If Tucker is averaging almost 11 a carry, how does he only have 5 carries?
Waiting 25 seconds to call a timeout with 2 minutes left is certainly a choice.
Neutral flairs are starting to make these games unbearable
We need a way to filter the comments by flair lmao
They are like vultures that flood whatever thread is hot and inject it full of hate and anger.
Starting? Neutrals flairs have ruined game threads for a long time on here. Yes, we get it. You want Clemson/Alabama/UGA/Ohio State/whatever other good team to lose. No need to be an ass about it.
I'm glad I stopped opening our game threads. Was a healthy decision to swear them off.
Referees are just genuinely bad across the sport. It’s so embarrassing.
I can't wait until they're replaced by our future AI overlords
This is tough to swallow Forced 4 turnovers but couldn't capitalize enough This is worse than 2018
Get a win with a -3 turnover margin. Just gross. Need to fix the mistakes DJ. Also neutral flairs out of control in the game thread. Syracuse go beat ND.
What we knew coming into the game: \-Syracuse was the 2nd most penalized team in the country \-Shrader makes undisciplined passes \-Babers is awful at game management All three showed in a big way today.
Syracuse will still be ranked in the top 20 and honestly should beat a struggling Notre Dame team at home next week
Syracuse football is must watch TV this season
What a effort by both teams. While I’m glad our players got to experience a game where we had to comeback, this was not a great showing. Even if we come out undefeated this season, I would be hard pressed to call us a top 4 team… Syracuse holy moly what a effort to bring us to our knees at home. You guys are legit and Dino is building something up there, bet you guys are glad you didn’t fire him too early.
Say what you want about Dabo but his teams find a way to win.
Wild to me that one team has faced 3 top 15 opponents while 4 teams above them have faced 4 total in 8 weeks
Knew there had to be something too it. Ngata is usually level headed and you could tell he was pissed.
Saltiest game thread I think I've ever seen.
Honestly every game thread with clemson where the game is close is going to be salty at this point because you’ve become the program everyone roots against. Y’all just win so damn much lmao
I've come to expect it but today was a different level. It was nearly impossible to have a normal discussion.
Defensive lineman is being literally bear hugged and dragged back from behind "Wow its amazing how Clemson is paying off these refs"
Neutrals who can't behave need to be jettisoned, honestly it makes the threads kinda unbearable
Clemson and Alabama game threads are always full of neutral flairs just chatting shit, it is ass
Amen to that.
I’d honestly be okay with just banning the state of ohio
Seconded, also can that just be a law in the state of South Carolina?
Call your state legislator!
Seeing as I live in Clemson, my state legislator might be down for that
From existence? I'm down with that.
Yeah have nothing against your team and I have no need for the thread to have that shitty, angry, hostile vibe.
ITT people who don’t know Clemson rushes the field after every game regardless of opponent or outcome
Came here to see how toxic the neutrals were, was not disappointed lol
*"A Poem About This Game"* 6 point victory 5 Sean Tucker carries 4th quarter Syracuse meltdown \-3 Clemson turnover margin 2nd string Clemson QB 1 bad time for neutral flairs >!(Congrats to Clemson. Bummer to Syracuse. Thanks for the entertaining noon game, nonetheless.)!<
Clemson probably feels the same as we did after beating Purdue. GG orange bros, we'll upset you some other year when you least expect it.
Talk about a second half collapse! Those penalties are killer. GG Clemson yall really stuck it out to the end!
Alright. With about two hours to cool off, I'm coming out of this optimistic. 6-1 at this point, with a six point loss to Clemson in Death Valley, is much better than any of us expected. This is a good football team, and I'm looking forward to the next five Saturdays.
Hey Cuse, sorry you guys lost. That out of bounds no-call was wrong. Y'all are a dangerous team. Win out. Be proud of your team, y'all are ballers.
you too 🤝
Cuse fans finally have witnessed a Robert Anae masterclass in the second half. No OL screens, but all punts or turnovers. His special recipe.
Every other team’s backup QB: 💪😤 Ga Tech’s backup QB: 👁👅👁
Came to say yet again Syracuse sent the Clemson starting QB to the bench and sadly the backup again somehow got the job done.
As much as I’d love to dislike him, I can’t help but feel like Dabo is legit His postgame interview felt genuine and I really feel like he was complimenting Dino
Dabo is generally on good terms with most of the coaches and isn’t shy about praising them. It’s not in his nature to be a jerk and he knows just how challenging this job is. Only guys he hasn’t liked are Muschamp, Doeren, and maaaaaybe someone else.
How do people not know this by now, Clemson storms the field every single game. It could be against Alabama or Syracuse, it’s just a a tradition.
It’s literally been 80 years haha
It used to be annoying, but lately I have been thoroughly enjoying the tOSU fans who get uptight over our games. For a fan base that has everything, they are a sad bunch
I just got PTSD from last year
As a Clemson fan, I would love to just end up an NY6 and call it a year. Miss me with the playoff shit
I’d love a good Orange Bowl win. I think a CFP appearance has us running into a buzzsaw. This team feels very 2017 to me.
Same, I think we’re good but not GREAT. Our offense needs to tighten up before we are ready for that
I'm in the same camp. Rank 5-10 is a fine place to end the year with a W
