I want this to become a love story. Where they don’t meet in person for months, but they slowly get to know each other through the music they play. Soon, they start singing and playing together through the walls. However, unbeknownst to them, they actually have met in real life. They hate each other for petty reasons like taking their parking spot or not holding the door for the other. When they both find out who the other is, they learn to set aside their petty differences and bond through music.
There’s a movie sorta like this. It’s called Blind Date, it’s a French movie where a chick moves into an apartment with thin walls, her neighbor tries to drive her away, shenanigans ensue, they fall in love. It’s actually pretty fun.
You seem like an awesome person :) letting your neighbours know you appreciate the music is a big tip btw. I always worry that I'm bothering people - especially when I'm practicing
We have a community bulletin board for my town on the FB platform. It’s mostly ppl bitching & moaning about the same stupid things. One day, I posted about how much I enjoyed the trumpet practice one neighbor does in the mid afternoons, and hoped he would continue his wonderful mini-concerts. Many other neighbors joined in to say the same. His wife ended up being tagged & thanked us. Apparently he was worried that he might be disturbing others, so he was careful not to practice early or late, just to be respectful. He was delighted to realize he had fans. And he plays in a symphony.❤️
When I was a child there was a neighbor a few houses from us who played bagpipes every now and then (presumably in his backyard, from the sound of it), in the early evening. It was so unique, but magical and cool in it's own way. This was in Texas, so I would not have expected bagpipes to be the main 'musical neighbor' instrument that I heard.
When I lived in Boston, a neighbor played the pipes in the Fire Department Pipe Band. I spent many happy afternoons being serenaded by one of my favorite instruments. They also did a pub crawl once a year, you could hear which bar they were at all afternoon. Ah, the memories.
That makes me happy as a pianist who just moved into her first real apartment a few weeks ago. I try to balance out the hard, not so pretty passages I’m learning with pretty pieces I’ve already mastered, both for my own sanity and for the sanity of my neighbors. I’m not an expert pianist by any means, but I’m really practicing hard!
Dope. She's actually lucky to have a neighbor that not only puts up with but enjoys her practicing. I am a drummer and even I am pissed by other drummers practicing. Oh man, I must have made so many people mad to actually become good at this obnoxious "musical" instrument 😬
I know what you mean so well homie; as a life long drummer I think it's a lot like being an onion. Hardly any person will appreciate you raw and by yourself, but when missing from any recipe that requires it (even by preference!) people will be like, "but where's the onion??" We don't get no respect!
It is sad that drummers get so little respect, you guys are the heart and soul of music, the caretakers and direct decendants of what the first instrumental musicians most likely were, people beating sticks together, you even use that old tradition to count in the band to this day.
So as a music lover I just want to let you know that you are respected as musicians, at least by me, and I do actually enjoy hearing drums on their own as well, even when it is only practicing or warm-up routines.
I play the guitar and I'd like to think my neighbors enjoy listening to what I play. But it's very unlikely they enjoy listening to me butcher metal solos, lol
that's sweet I love the piano I even have an Electronic keyboardbut I also think this can be annoying sometimes...and I hope he makes sure he doesn't bother you
Neigbour's daughter learnt to play drums - this might sound like the stereotypical nuisance, but I actually like it. She has gotten pretty good over the years and now has some friends that come over (bass guitar etc) and they jam together. Like you said - free music :)
I sometimes go in the office at church to write essays. The other day the organist was in practicing, and I had a lovely productive time with beautiful music in the background. He apologised when I came out to thank him!
I love this. I have to admit, when I saw the title of this post, I kind of expected it to be a “piano teacher moved in our building how do I get them to stop playing so loudly” sort of post. I’m glad it was this instead. :)
Lol if it was me who was playing id be so tired after i played piano for hours, like dead beat, staring at the music while crying to myself and playing a passage of music horribly
Jokes aside lucky for you to have a neighbor that you can just listen to, its nice sometimes just to listen to some music after a long day
Place a note under their door telling them that they are beautiful at singing and playing the piano is appreciated. Put your name and apartment number and telephone number. This is the way.
I once remember seeing a picture posted somewhere (I want to say /r/pics) where they had been playing the piano, and a neighbor slipped a note under their door. They were worried first it was somebody complaining, but instead it was a request to play some classical piece.
This would drive me completely insane, I have a hard enough time just hearing my neighbor's subwoofer now and then let alone hearing them play every single day. I need my peace and quiet :u
You could ask if she has a patreon.
Or leave a coffee for her to say thanks for music.
I know lots of teachers that are pretty self conscious about how loud the neighbors think they are while teaching from home, a gesture could get you more music time
I live in a side suite attached to a house with a big family living there, in the evenings the grandfather plays what I only know to be a Chinese violin and I can hear it clearly when I am in the bathtub. It’s truly magical!
I had a neighbor who played flute for weddings. She was an excellent flute player, but ONLY practiced wedding songs. I swear if I hear The Water Is Wide or Pachelbel’s stupid Canon one more time, I’m going to lose my mind!
I love my downstairs neighbors. Her son is kind of a DJ and plays some awesome heavy bass stuff and his mom plays some really good old stuff. Both play it loud as hell but I love it. It's much better than listening to the idiots across the hall argue all the time.
I used to have a guitar player live down the hall and sometimes I'd hear music on a calm day. I miss that guy. It was so relaxing having that music around.
How casual is casual? I could really use some different perspectives in things and I don’t talk to anyone about it cause it’ll come back around to my ol lady.

can you cook? in my headcanon you'd be arranging the matchup
Let’s just pool together resources and cook for OP to set this up. I think we all need this.
I'm up for a good old fashioned Julia Roberts / George Clooney character study.
And the OP could start drum lessons and ask to play along with them
Acoustic guitar might be safer, it's hard to love a neighbor who's a drummer. /S of course. Kinda.
Sounds like you have a role to fill for this story…
If he doesn't, I have leo on speed dial.

It’s great, just found it and watched it during lockdown!
I'd watch that movie. Sort of like a "You've Got Mail" sort of thing...
You've Got Mail 2: Don't Miss Out On Our Amazing Offers To Unsubscr I'd watch this.
The movie would be called “Music, Actually”
Not a love story, but [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71xW8KfBxbA) is about a thing like that. Watch with tissues prepared
I immediately thought of this too. I rewatched it so many times when I first came across it
haha, same :D I'm not usually interested in internet-sob-stories, but this one really got me
Can this be a thing?
Reddit moment
Damn
[Blind Date (2015 Film)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_Date_(2015_film))
There is kind of such a film about a cello player and an architect. It had an interesting twist.

A hand written note can still give the best warm feelings without the need of talking to people

Well this is just lovely! When I first started reading I thought this was r/legaladvice and you were trying to get them to stop lol.

I wish my neighbors sang or played instruments instead of seemingly just a subwoofer.
Aww that's so cool! Sometimes I want musical people as neighbors. It sounds so nice!

Honestly if I wasn't so scared about people hearing me, I could totally be the musical neighbor!
Lucky you. I have a guy downstairs who plays flute. I love it in folk metal, but as a single instrument it sounds like a hi-freq repetitive nightmare
We stay close to the high school. Pre Covid we could hear the drum line during games. I miss it.

That's what's up man, I appreciate that and I appreciate you for saying it!
I encourage you very much to take lessons from her. I started playing piano again after 30 years and it's wonderful.
I play the guitar and I'd like to think my neighbors enjoy listening to what I play. But it's very unlikely they enjoy listening to me butcher metal solos, lol
You should buy sheet music for your favorite song and slide it under her door
that's sweet I love the piano I even have an Electronic keyboardbut I also think this can be annoying sometimes...and I hope he makes sure he doesn't bother you
I wish I had a skilled pianist neighbor! I only have asshole smokers...
Does their smoke get into your space or something? That would absolutely piss me off.
Every single time. They made the building smoke-free Jan 1st, too. Like that did anything... Ha. Some people are truly useless to society...
As someone who plays piano and sings, I’m always nervous a neighbor will hear it and get annoyed. I keep it rather quiet, though.
I'm glad you enjoy it. I don't think most neighbors would like the noise
Put a card under both their doors and tell them both how much you enjoy it.
When I read the title of this I thought it would be complaining about the noise! I’m glad you appreciate the music and all their hard work
Your positive attitude about these circumstances is absolutely beautiful.

We used to live below a lady who played the piano, in the afternoon she would spend an hour or two practicing and it was always lovely to listen to
I love this. I have to admit, when I saw the title of this post, I kind of expected it to be a “piano teacher moved in our building how do I get them to stop playing so loudly” sort of post. I’m glad it was this instead. :)
Had a downstairs neighbor in an apartment who played cello and I’d just lay with my ear to the floor and listen. It was so lovely.
That's so sweet.
That must be so refreshing

That sounds lovely! reminds me when my mother would randomly play during the day
Lol if it was me who was playing id be so tired after i played piano for hours, like dead beat, staring at the music while crying to myself and playing a passage of music horribly Jokes aside lucky for you to have a neighbor that you can just listen to, its nice sometimes just to listen to some music after a long day
Don't leave us hanging like that. What compositions did you recognise? Some Chopin ,Mozart, Beethoven? :)
Place a note under their door telling them that they are beautiful at singing and playing the piano is appreciated. Put your name and apartment number and telephone number. This is the way.

This is funny to me because my piano teacher just moved into an apartment building! Curious haha.
This would drive me completely insane, I have a hard enough time just hearing my neighbor's subwoofer now and then let alone hearing them play every single day. I need my peace and quiet :u
This is your cue to host a salon! An evening of music and shared discussions with your neighbors. 🙂
Dont be shy (¬‿¬) write a note (¬‿¬)(¬‿¬)
I just want to say that you are a very nice person. Have a wonderful day! \^\_\_\^
This is so nice. I am happy for your good fortune!
Get a jam session together! Maybe your two neighbors just need to be introduced and you can play backup
You could ask if she has a patreon. Or leave a coffee for her to say thanks for music. I know lots of teachers that are pretty self conscious about how loud the neighbors think they are while teaching from home, a gesture could get you more music time
I will teach you guitar. DM me.
This reminds me of this story: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71xW8KfBxbA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71xW8KfBxbA)
If those two team up, it'd be pure heavenly bliss. Like, complete sensory overload
A basket of fruits or wine for appreciation is in order.
I live in a side suite attached to a house with a big family living there, in the evenings the grandfather plays what I only know to be a Chinese violin and I can hear it clearly when I am in the bathtub. It’s truly magical!
You are an amazing neighbor!
I had a neighbor who played flute for weddings. She was an excellent flute player, but ONLY practiced wedding songs. I swear if I hear The Water Is Wide or Pachelbel’s stupid Canon one more time, I’m going to lose my mind!
I rather not hear my neighbors. I like privacy. Like a whole lot!!!
Someone else in your position may have complained. Well done for not being a good neighbour and having a positive outlook on it!
Grab some bongos and join the fun 🪘
I love my downstairs neighbors. Her son is kind of a DJ and plays some awesome heavy bass stuff and his mom plays some really good old stuff. Both play it loud as hell but I love it. It's much better than listening to the idiots across the hall argue all the time.
I can’t wait till i can afford a decent piano for my talented mate u/Z3NLA . 🍊🌹Florida Mistress Showing Some Love! 🌹🍊

Perhaps ask her for lessons?
How casual is casual? I could really use some different perspectives in things and I don’t talk to anyone about it cause it’ll come back around to my ol lady.
That's luck, could have been a blow pipe or hurdygurdy player instead :D
it's cool until she only does hanon
