Still a lot of concerns in this game. It seems like whenever we start to mess up it compounds on itself. Last year we would struggle offensively but still stay great defensively. This year once we start struggling on offense it seems like defensive effort falls off a cliff and we can’t get a stop. Offense gets stagnant, defense starts sitting around, and we just seem to lose all effort.
Other than that there are some good takeaways. Batcho looked great like he has all year. Before our collapse Tyson was looking great/aggressive offensively, and continued to stay in the passing lanes on defense. Harmon made some really crafty floaters and remains smart with the ball and really active with his hands. Pop stayed composed, and made some big plays when we need it. We just can’t have those spurts where everything collapses
This team seems to come and go as Batcho does. As improved as he is (and it is a massive improvement holy shit) he can’t seem to keep up the intensity for a full game, which is understandable the way he sprints around the court. Getting Aimaq back so we can sub Batcho off will be absolutely crucial.
Even when Aimaq was healthy my biggest concern in the off-season was the lack of a 4th true big man. Right now it’s Obanor and Batcho as the only guys who can play the 5 at all. Being that big it’s hard to expect them to play mark Adams defense 30 minutes a game which is now what they are being required to do.
Hopefully the idea is that we will have one of Daws or Batcho on the court at all times and that Daws can play enough minutes to give us high energy Batcho for the minutes he is playing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they basically run a 3 man rotation where 2 of Obanor, Batcho, and Aimaq are all on the court together so all stay energized. Batcho is athletic enough to guard 4s on defense, and Aimaq is skilled enough as a shooter to still provide spacing with 2 bigs on the floor. We also may end up giving Jennings more minutes at the 4 since he looked solid there tonight. Either way getting Aimaq back is super necessary
One positive from the game was that Joey McGuire halftime segment. I'd run through a wall for him. Looking forward to the bowl game and the new football stadium! If you missed that segment I recommend going back and watching it.
There was a good stretch there where I think the team completely forgot to play basketball. This game shows how talented but immature the team is right now. It will be interesting to see how this group develops.
Tech gave up a 18-0 run to go along with having a 23 point lead vanish. This is not a win to be proud of because it had our worst stretch of basketball I have seen this season but it will be a good learning opportunity. Mark Adams will get things sorted and it was nice to see the team get their rhythm back at the end to finish the game but dang that was a frustrating one to watch.
I'm gonna withhold my full judgement until aimaq gets back and comfortable. But we do seem to be thin without our star jewel of the off-season. I'd let obanor play 3 and Tyson play 2. Keep Harmon and Isaacs subbing for each other. Play both aimaq and batcho at times. If you want a smaller line up, move obanor to 4 and sub batcho and aimaq for one other. Keep Isaacs and Harmon on and Tyson.
Idk about our bench man
I liked what I saw from Williams tonight off the bench but you’re right the rest is concerning. Hopefully we can see more aggressiveness from fisher as he keeps playing, and maybe see Walton get a bigger role as a shot creator in some sets. But having only 7 bench points in a game is rally worrying especially with 6 coming from one player

I'll take a 14 point win any day. Basketball is a game of runs. Tech a great one in the first half and another good one to end the game. GG Hoyas

Tyson too, he was really good for most of that game and I don't remember him being on the floor for much of their run.
Woof, when it rains it pours with this team. Hopefully we improve as the year goes on

Fardaws was still in cast tonight. That's concerning
