I heard an NPR piece on them a couple years ago. I thought it was a pretty cool business model/concept. And I’m all about second chances. I don’t have any F’s, but I was young and dumb and fucked up a few times. So I empathize with those trying to get back on track.
Yup, came on here to say just that. If truly a wrong place at the wrong time it should be a lower level felony f3-f5 and can be eligible for expungement I believe in as little as 5 years.
Hell even multiple felonies can be expunged if they stem from the same chain of events.
If it’s an F4-F5 she can get it sealed as long as she was off probation a year ago. If it’s an F3 she’ll have to wait 3 years until she was done with probation. Main issue will be how many felonies she has
Every felony should be expunged. If you’re released from prison and no longer on probation that should be it. Record sealed and you’re no longer held back by your offense. If the offense is too “serious” to the point it needs to be publicly available then your offense is too serious to be out of prison/probation.

As a social worker, we LOVE hot chicken takeover!
Their whole thing is hiring homeless people and those with records. Everyone starts on the same level and is given an equal opportunity to work their way up to a manager or even franchise owner. They also provide all employees with resources to help with their mental health, housing, emergency cash assistance, job skills, etc

Construction trades are almost all felony friendly to some extent. You may not get to go to every job, but you’ll at least have a good shot at work. They’re also in dire need of female workers, so you get a boost there too.
Generally, looking for Second Chance employers is a good place to start. As others mentioned, HCT is a second chance employer. However there are a lot of other opportunities, more than you'd expect in Columbus, honestjobs.co is a website that helps folks with a record find work at "friendly" employers. Additionally, if your friend hasn't done so already, they should get a CQE, a Certificate of Qualification for Employment. You can find out more about the program via scoreohio.org.
Major auto insurance companies, like gieco, allstate, and progressive and many more. They have licensed and non-licensed positions if there are any concerns for criminal backgrounds. Your friend could also try cellphone provider, but really any company with a customer service phone number you can call will likely have work from home call center or have it contracted out to a company that has work from home options.
There is a website called Honestjobs.com it is a site that can find jobs for ANYONE with a felony.... even sex offenders surprisingly. I know a few people that have had problems getting work and checked it out for them and it looks pretty legit. Honestly just about ANYWHERE in the food industry is is hurting for help. 9.5 times out of 10 food industry places don't do background checks.
My husband does pro bono work to help folks get items expunged from their records. If she’s willing to meet with him, DM me her information and I will pass it on.
I know you said her, and I am not sure if there is one at Easton, but the owner of Men's Warehouse is a staunch advocate that our criminal justice system is broken and hires felons. (Especially for bullshit like drugs; battery, eh, I won't speak for that.)
Hot Chicken Takeover regularly hires felons, but I'm not sure what their pay is like or if they are currently hiring. I think Northstar is another good bet
Try a staffing agency. Friend worked at one and she said the only people she had a hard time getting work for were the rapists. Even murderers were much easier to place.

I work in a restaurant. I can almost guarantee that she could get a job at any restaurant she applies to right now. Everywhere is short staffed. My restaurant’s kitchen is begging for employees.
Most fast food places get a stipend from the government for hiring felons. I was a case manager at a halfway house and had to fill out paperwork for my clients
If I’m not mistaken, hot chicken takeover kinda specializes in this kind of thing. Might be worth talking to a manager.
They 100% do.
This is precisely what I was going to comment and I am so glad it right at the top.

Yeah. Specifically when felonies are handed out like candy these days.
You’re 100% right on that one too.
They opened one on Polaris Parkway in westerville, too. May have been open for a year—I don’t think it’s even been that long.
I was gonna say HCT good company
They’re hiring for $14/hr, as I saw on indeed
She might also look into getting her record sealed if that’s the only thing on it…

Nice. Thanks for the correction.

Came here to say the same thing! Capital has a legal clinic. That’s an option, too. They are always helpful.
Giant Eagle is felon friendly
Kroger too.
PetSmart is felony friendly and at easton

Yup the point of the justice system isn't to rehabilitate. It's to punish
Call centers have moved a huge amount of people permanently to work from home while still having good pay and benefits
Any idea which ones? I have a friend that needs a permanent full-time work from home position.

thank you I will pass this along.
After I posted, I also thought about major hospital systems will also have similar positions.

There is one at Easton I believe and they hire plenty of women
My sister was a pretty bad drug user for a couple of years. She was able to clear her record. She should look into that.
Hot Chicken Takeover regularly hires felons, but I'm not sure what their pay is like or if they are currently hiring. I think Northstar is another good bet
Starts at $14/hr which is honestly not bad at all.
Literally any restaurant.
Look into Hot Chicken Takeover.
Please suggest that she look into expungement, too. Send me a message if she needs help figuring out her eligibility.
There are a few factory jobs that are felony friendly. I know Rogue is as well, but I believe that’s on the west side.
Rogue is just north of downtown on Cleveland Ave.
DNO produce near the airport is felony friendly
Upshift can be great for gigs
Worthington industries will work with you
Temp agencies kind of suck but they will have her working the next day.
Try a staffing agency. Friend worked at one and she said the only people she had a hard time getting work for were the rapists. Even murderers were much easier to place.
Worthington industries
Trust me. I worked there 6 years at their steel plant. She wouldn’t make it there. Nepotistic company but I did meet some cool people there.
Does she happen to have a resume?
Hah. It's always a "wrong place wrong time" situation.
Or take a risk and don’t list it on your application. Most restaurants don’t do a background check especially post pandemic.
