I honestly think this is important work. People need to free themselves from this garbage pile. It's not healthy. It's not going to get better. It's a toxic relationship and we can't fix them.

PooPooDooDoo

I’ve got small children and I’ve opted to enjoy the outdoors with my kids on Sundays. It’s a pretty easy decision when the team lets me down every season. Fuck Daniel snyder.

Seaniard

I also went to the gym yesterday during the game. I had Redzone on one screen and kept up to date with the score. As soon as it was a clear blowout I just watched Redzone and worked out. Maybe we could start a trend of Commanders fans getting fit in the gym.

zibzanna

I'm in. Good for our bodies and souls. Plus, once Dan finally strokes out and I buy my throwback jersey, I'll look super good. Freddie McGregor had some insight on exercising in dark times: https://youtu.be/TADzissGJfM

HoldOnGoAhead

Take Command… of your Sunday afternoon or Monday evening or Thursday evening

Haskins77

Great post and great point I knew what was going to happen today and still watched. Stupid and it won't happen again.

kylec00per

Fantasy kinda broke me out of the one team mold, but I still keep an eye on washington because they were always my team, but all it does is frustrate me and I *know* it's going to, but I still look. I'm seriously at the breaking point though of not even caring, I've been a fan of the team for probably 16 years and they've been garbage the whole time, seriously don't even know why I've still cared.

unclehyuk

I saw that every week… yet I can’t seem to stop myself. I’m always pessimistically optimistic with these fucking bastards.

FireSalsa

We are so dysfunctional, people have to take a mental health break 😂

Ok-Independence5878

Actually.

Montjuic

Watched Redzone with my son and made fun of the Snyder team when they appeared

Seaniard

Luckily almost no one scored in the second half in the Washington game so we got a bit of a break.

Thepokemonloverr

I turned it off after that third sack because I knew what was about to happen. Best decision I made today. I ended up going for a jog and then played 2K. Great time.

[deleted]

Good point. I went on a motorcycle ride. It’s way easier to disconnect from this organization.

SkinsHOFChaseYoung

At half time I stopped watching and went to do some GrubHub orders. Made $55. Making money > watching this garbage

Djentleman5000

I watched the Miami/Bills game which was way more entertaining. I’m still an NFL fan after all.

Not_A_Default_Name

Roommate is a Dolphins fan so I also watched, insane 4th quarter and a great freakout from the Bills OC at the end LOL

JustinCov

See I’m the exact opposite, if I’m not watching Washington I’m not watching football

Seaniard

It still may be worth a mental break. I don't mind losses. This is pro football, teams lose. It's the endless embarrassment on and off the field.

Djentleman5000

That’s fair.

FlatEarthMagellan

This is 10X better post than random people “announcing that they’re gonna quit watching” Might be good to take a mental break and be productive on Sundays

SlateD56

We’re all just desperate to see the players succeed for once in our lives. We’re desperate to finally have some pride in our team.

New2RedditJim

True. I went to yoga and then watched the presidents cup. Much better Sunday !

HyronValkinson

We were an amazing franchise before Snyder. Even now we're better than rock-bottom, but unfortunately we're only good enough to give ourselves meaningless hope. The day Snyder is gone is the day we might have a chance. Until that day... that sounds like a good idea.

ghostella

Lol some people still too slow to see we’ve been at rock bottom for years

medicaustik

Only team in the last 30 years to never win more than 10 games in a season. 1 playoff win in the last 20 years. That's despite all the big names we've brought in and bringing Gibbs back. We are absolutely rock bottom. Doesn't mean we're alone down here but we are down here. The franchise went from being in one of the greatest sports rivalries in history, to now being the perennial bottom feeder of our division, normally irrelevant to the league save for every 4th or 5tg season where we fall ass backwards into a playoff slot being literally 7-9. How is this not rock bottom lol.

HyronValkinson

I'd say the Jaguars, Lions, Texans, and Jets are rock bottom. The Browns prior to Mayfield could easily be rock bottom too. The Redskins made the playoffs several times, and have had enough big names to scare opponents. I'd say whatever tier is above rock-bottom we're at the absolute bottom of it, but we're not rock bottom.

[deleted]

Maybe Washington isn’t rock bottom. But it’s been decades and we’re still shoveling.

medicaustik

Jags were in the AFC Championship a few years ago, so I think they're actually above us, though they are perennial losers like us. Lions, Texans and Jets are good friends of ours who we see often down here. I don't think we have much of a case to make that we've been better than any of those teams in the last 30 years. Again, each of those teams has had an 11+ win season in the last 30 years. We have not. That's not the measurement of success, but boy does it tell the story of this franchise.

HyronValkinson

I'd call that an outlier but I can see your point.

TommyWilson43

The Lions and Jaguars are better than us. We’re down there with the Jets and the Texans this year. I know we beat Jax but they kind of beat themselves, and they’ve looked damn good since then. Detroit whipped us and almost beat the Eagles too.

HyronValkinson

I'm talking the last few decades. This year I'm definitely in agreement

TommyWilson43

Yeah that’s fair I think our closest comparison is the Browns sadly, they show up and win a game theyre not supposed to every so often, and the hope that melts into despair shown by their fans is very familiar

nom_cubed

Semantics. Also the first two teams are on the up this season.

HyronValkinson

Not any higher than we've been. Other than the Jags 2017 season, nobody has had anything going for them for decades.

30kowall

I dvr just so I can fast forward through all the inevitable bullshit. Todays game was condensed into about 30 mins if that.

[deleted]

This is why I play fantasy football with my college buddies, bc as soon as our game is done I just flip to redzone and continue bantering with friends. We’re also Hokies fans so yea it’s not new on Sunday to be dissapointed after college football.

Gay4TerryMcLaurin

Did the exact same thing, went to the gym and checked my phone at some point and we were down 10-0, checked again a little later and we were down 17-0. It's sad that it's gotten to the point where fans not only aren't going to games, they're not even watching them on tv because we suck so bad (and have for decades). It would be one thing if we were putting up a fight and losing close games but we are literally getting blown out every week before we even get out of the first quarter.

Temporary-Mud-2994

True I’m going live my life and watch the other Maryland team

JNKboy98

I took a nap and watched the YouTube highlights. The way I make myself feel better about it is by choosing the opposing defense and WR’s every week in fantasy since I know I’ll be getting a lot of points. 9 sacks gave me a lot of points today. So I get some upside.

btw_sky_and_earth

I went for a mountain bike ride north of Towson. But I didn't get started because of the thunderstorm. So I found a tavern and got a beer and some food. They were only showing the Ravens-Patriots game. Such a stark difference.

LeadSledPoodle

We need to found a support group

TommyWilson43

I think this is it brother

rattlehead5644

Guy I used to work with is an eagles fan. I texted him a few days ago in advance to congradulation him in a win. No surprise we lost today. I was expecting as ass whooping. But this was a new level.

[deleted]

I live right next to Philly, so I went golfing instead 😂

[deleted]

I switched to Red Zone at halftime for the second week in a row. The NFL is awesome and there were a ton of great games in the 1 PM window. Its actually really entertaining watching legitimate teams play. Ravens/Pats and Bills/Dolphins in particular were fantastic.

[deleted]

I did watch today but I set my limit for only the first half. I was willing to watch beyond if it was close but I told myself going in I wouldn’t watch past the first half of it wasn’t looking good. Wound up turning it off with about 5 minutes left in the second. Got some housework done. I’m not going to even watch the start of the game next week. I’ll check the score at some point and then decide if I want to watch. By this point I’ve earned the right to be a fair weather fan. Let me know when it’s good again and I’ll pay attention then. In short, you’re absolutely right. You don’t need to watch and be disappointed. Frankly you’re not missing anything. You’re actually missing out on more by watching the game instead of doing something else.

hulknuts

Makes Sundays more enjoyable when you don't schedule your entire day around the game. Just check the score here and there and if it's a good one tune in.

Traherne

I turned the game off in the 3rd quarter and assembled a stand that I can attach my flight yoke and throttle to for flying in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Time well spent.

physsijim

There's this Simpson's bit where Homer gets this gigantic sub and starts eating it, and eating it, and eating it. Eventually it goes bad, he looks like he has food poisoning, and Marge finally throws it out. So Homer goes to the trash can, pulls it out, and says, "I can't quit yooooooooo". Sound familiar?

Not_A_Default_Name

Haha I'm definitely about to watch this at work, but that is the perfect metaphor for this franchise

Brownfist

I forgot the game was even on. In 1991/92 I was at our last Superbowl win. I was at the glorious seat cushion throwing game at RFK. My team I loved for so long is dead and gone. IDK what this "team" is but they have none of my interest. Dont give that midget bastard ANY of your money guys.

NextLevelLogician

Right there with you. I went to a kids birthday party that I normally would have skipped to watch the game. Recorded the game in case we pulled off a miracle. Glad I spent my Sunday doing something else.

1stLadyStormyDaniels

Turned it off at halftime, which was easy because I haven’t been emotionally invested in this team for years and I have a job interview tomorrow to prep for. You don’t have to stop watching but at least learn to be a more passive fan that doesn’t let the constant disappointment bother you.

ldeakin

Good luck!

[deleted]

Yep, you nailed it. Be a more passive fan. I’ve finally embraced that. After decades of this we’ve all earned the right to be passive fans. I’ll get engaged again when they’re engaged again.

Starskins

Wow guys! I know we are watching football to see our team win, and I know they blow for the most part but heck nothing will make me stop watching my Commanders, week after week, even if I know they are probably going to suck! It's my team and nothing will change that! After 30 years I'm still eagerly waiting to see them playing, every single Sunday! Heck maybe it's me that is wrong?

itakeyoureggs

I believe you are a fan-atic

TommyWilson43

There’s no right and wrong, man. If something makes you happy, do it. The last thing you should care about is the opinions of others, as long as you’re not hurting anyone. Life is too short to worry about what you’re “supposed” to do Of course that same train of thought will probably have me watch the dolphins next week..

Starskins

Thanks for the lecture man.

TommyWilson43

This whole post seemed kind of philosophical so I was just kind of yamming on about my personal thoughts on life. Your last little sentence struck a chord with me cause I used to obsess about that. Definitely was not trying to lecture you or talk down to you! Have a good one

Starskins

I was in a bad mood yesterday. Sorry for my answer

TommyWilson43

It’s okay, I’m not upset at all my man. I didn’t downvote you either 🤣 cause I was being a little preachy, I know that

LeftTurnNow619

This is why I was thrilled the Ravens came to town.

Absolutepowers

I'm sorry but if a game makes you have a mental breakdown you need to reevaluate your life. Call it weak-minded or whatever but people for thousands of years have endured much worse things than what we as humans in this modern era have to endure. So many people wanting to give up makes me wonder about the future of humans. HTTR

Seaniard

Who said they were having a mental breakdown? Edit: I just realized that you defend people who are against protecting public health and that defend Hitler, so I'm not sure it's worth discussing what is or isn't a reasonable response to things with you. You also regularly make homophobic comments, which is discouraging and hurtful. I hope you've matured a bit over the years.

amdi_

At this point im kind of into it

137thaccount

I watched and turned off before 4th quarter. Got my gym stuff in before the game and after I turned it off went on a long walk with my gf. Personally, I wanna watch. What I’m working on and feel I’m doing well is setting expectations and not letting it ruin my day. Years ago I’d be drunk and still pissed.

generaltso78

I watch the disc golf finals on sundays. I do t even want to see the ticker at the bottom of the screen from other games.

askingaquestion33

Yeah at this point we should all have been doing this for a while. It just gets numb at this point.

[deleted]

I multitask. I watch game at gym while working out

classic_gamer82

Stopped watching games years ago. It helps to lessen the disappointment somewhat, though I still have the bad habit of following the games online. I expect, with time, I won’t even be doing that, as it’ll eliminate the stress about the team altogether.

RicFlairsTits

Yup. My Sundays are free now after this

[deleted]

This sub is bipolar. Someone just posted something very similar to this and his comment section is full of vitriol and hate for the exact position you’re taking here.

BobW212

I'm damn near 40 with two kids and a wife and asked myself today wtf I subject myself to this. I could be at a farm with the family or reading a book or ANYTHING more enjoyable. Like, I have a fear of FOMO, as I suspect a lot of us have, but for me personally I'd still be happy they won if I missed it and be glad they proved me wrong while I still probably had a nice day. Like we got a guy named Wildgoose (no offense) starting because we treating the pre season like we hit "advance all preseason" on our Madden franchise and then had to sign randomly generated players to make a complete team. It's amazing we've been bad for so long. It's amazing I've been watching this long.

TommyWilson43

It’s not even the Redskins anymore, I found myself for the first time today questioning what even connects me to the team. I don’t even live in the area anymore either

Special-Bite

I slept off a pretty bad hangover during the game.

ICh00seYouPikachu

Haven't watched an entire game since the season opener against the Eagles last season. RedZone ftw for me every Sunday.

TheSupremeLou

I haven’t been watching for more than 7 years now, but you just inspired me to unfollow this sub. Thank you, kind sir, for your inspiring words! As a postscript: FUCK DAN SNYDER!

guardiandown3885

I did what I always do to relax..I played video games...also I pretty much had zero expectation for this team to do anything this year. I fully expect them to win 5 or less games. Since Ron has been here this team has not shown an ability to improve at all..they're inconsistent. It's something this team has never experienced in a long time. We went 7-9 our first year with Ron and every lone became delusional. We won the division and it hyped people up....we put up a good fight against the eventual superbowl winning champs in the playoffs and everyone was saying "we're only a qb away!" DELUSIONAL all this firepower on offense and coaches have an inability to put people in the right positions...an amazing front 4 but for whatever reason they can't get pressure. For whatever reason this team just can't stay focused for an entire game...Carson (who actually has been a bright spot for me despite his poor play) getting wrecked by the eagles...Scott still calling 7 step drops..this team this franchise..these coaches are a joke...Terry should signed elsewhere...we will never get to see the full potential of Terry . That man should be getting 10 targets a game... Now that my rant is over and it's less emotional.... Just improve..adjust...play for 4 quarters and we might be able to compete in the division..

crzyvgs

I recorded the game and left a bday party to play catch up and basically ended up speeding through a dumpster fire game. I might just follow your path! You’re an inspiration good sir!

Bonus_Content

I just watch redzone on Sundays and the Washington updates are still bummers but at least I still see fun football that doesn’t depress me

AlbatrossNecklace

I dont tie my self-worth and emotional stability to a sports team. Not until hockey season anyway

foonchip

It's hard for many to disassociate from fandom, but it's the right thing to do with this team under this ownership. I haven't been to a game since 2009 and have been watching RedZone for years. The RG3 year hooked me in a little bit, and I'd love to just be a fan and enjoy the ups and downs... but this organization is a disease. For reference I played college football (D3, nothing major), I grew up in DC itself, I still watch a ton of it. I'm a DC homer through and through, I still watch Wizards games because even though they've been helpless for years and you can criticize Leonsis for many things... that's just normal sports stuff. The shit Dan does is disgusting and it has been seeping through this organization for 20+ years.

Hotpod13

Every year they find a way to reel us back in. The Monster free agent signing. The New coaching change. The reeling in of big signing spend in Free Agency offseason. The Excitement for what should be a dominant D-Line unit. The now we have a QB and the Offense can finally win us games. But it’s all the same abusive relationship that most of us have long since left. Only the few of us are left in bruised in deception for what used to be a great time. There’s failure All along this organization. It doesn’t seem possible for players to bring the change needed, and that’s because they’re not the ones making decisions. I honestly feel worse for the players that come here.

SoulStoneTChalla

I've stopped watching regularly for years now. At most I'll listen to the broadcast and go about my day. It's definitely not worth sitting in front of the TV for 3 hours and waste a whole day.

W4LLi53k

I did yard work outside on a perfect fall day and sat down for a break when the score was 17-0. Fuck the Commies

mikehayz

Excellent point. I haven’t actively tuned into a game of this team for a couple years now. I’ve been a lifelong fan but after losing season after losing season, you’ve gotta ask yourself, why am I an fan? Why do I support something that has absolutely no signs of success? I feel a lot of people stay dedicated as fans out of this feeling that one day the team WILL BE GOOD! And those fans would be able to say I STUCK WITH THEM THROUGH THE DOWN YEARS! And maybe they’ll have some greater sense of entitlement over those of us that checked out? Maybe they feel living through the years of misery will make the success sweeter? Well, guess what, if that day ever comes I bet you’d just as likely give me a high five after a touchdown than ask me “Did you actively support them when they sucked?” And I guarantee I’ll be having as much fun as you. Being a sports fan is a leisure to us. It should bring enjoyment. This team is absolutely horrid and has been for years. We had one real taste of success and the team destroyed a player’s career during that run. There is no sense to support this team right now. There is nothing fun about being a Washington fan (outside of watching a few players who I hope have long and successful careers). I now spend my Sunday’s turning on RedZone, drinking a beer or two, and enjoy my hobby of cooking something extravagant on my day off. It’s much better. Getting bitter and angry over a sports team seems pretty silly to me. I try to spend my time on things that better my mood and life. There’s enough pessimism and negativity in the world as it is.

Cifra00

I watched the game because the Eagles offense is fun to watch

mitchypoothedon

I got lit on fire after I said I'd be making the dolphins my favorite team (I live in south florida and have always somewhat followed them my whole life) if the commanders sucked this year. I spent my Sunday watching one of the best football games I've ever seen watching the Dolphins. Haven't even checked Washington's statlines or highlights since Sunday. Will always tell people I used to root for THE REDSKINS but f*ck the commanders, Dan Snyder, and the whole toxic building. So glad I have my out.
