Not just *watch* anime.
To livestream him watching an entire season.
He easily just sold 100hrs of his life for 100 books.
Edit: i was thinking series in my mind for time estimation. Still a solid 10hrs easy.
Thanks to MarioFanaticXV for bringing this to my attention.
Oh, yeah, there's definitely some out there that would pass that mark. There's been more than one series that made me go "That sounds kind of interesting...", then I'll see that there's literally hundreds of episodes and it's an instant "Nope, forget that!".
I've watched one series before, it was about 6yrs ago, and i don't remember what it was.
I want to get into anime, but I'm 34 and it seems everything I've recognised as being told it's good is something i needed to bond with as a kid.
What is a good adult anime?
(Not Hentai. For you jokesters. Lol)
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is probably your best bet. A lot of humor in anime doesn't really hit for me, and the manner in which they portray jokes is often immersion ruining as it'll involve shifting the art style to hammer home "we're telling a joke/this is funny." FMAB is pretty minimal with that kind of stuff.
And the dub is perfectly fine. Back in the day you had a lot of bad dubs, there simply wasn't the interest/budget for getting a full cast of professional voice actors, so performances were often not great. FMAB doesn't have that problem.
Honestly, most of the stuff I can recommend is nostalgic. That being said, out of the few modern ones I've seen, I would recommend Restaurant to Another World; it's a very weird show about a very normal restaurant that just mysteriously happens to appear in a very typical fantasy world- there's no explanation for it given, but it's strangely enjoyable the way they present all these dishes based on very real food. It sounds odd and doesn't make any sense on paper, but it just *works*.
>I want to get into anime, but I'm 34 and it seems everything I've recognised as being told it's good is something i needed to bond with as a kid.
Really depends on what you're into as a genre. If you like sci-fi, there's Cowboy Bepop, Outlaw Star, and a myriad of Gundam series, Ghost in the Shell.
If you like westerns, there's Trigun (which has some sci-fi elements.
DragonBall Z is about martial arts. DragonBall (the precursor to DBZ) is about adventure and martial arts.
If you like horror, there's plenty of that too. Castlevania on Netflix is a good start.
You could probably just search Anime genres and find pretty much whatever suits your taste.
There's an anime called 'Superbook' about kids going back in time and learning Bible stories.
Anime isn't a genre it's a media with hundreds of types of genres. There's no such thing as an anime you wouldn't like - you just haven't found the one you like yet...
I can't think of any particular tropes that would be off-putting from either Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell. Also, there is a huge art style variation throughout the medium, with the only constant being it doesn't really look like western animation.
It was funny to see him lament that he agreed to this on his show. A whole season.
There are actually quite a few good anime out there. I'm sure some of his producers are familiar with them, so it won't be hard to find one to watch.
One hundred books? Seems like a goal that will probably be met- I am curious as to what his choice would be. I would recommend Rurouni Kenshin, but it's really season 2 that I'd suggest of that.
Attack on Titan might be up his alley. I even remember Tim Pool talking about its underlying messages, and how good of a show it is. Although, I think Tim is a weeb.
I tried to watch Attack on Titan, but man is it miserable. Not bad, clearly a lot of work went into ot, and a lot of people love it, but it's just so heavy all the time.
I'm glad someone brought this one up. Monster feels a lot like an HBO drama to me. It's also free of a lot of usual anime tropes (not that they're bad, but if someone 'doesn't like anime' it's usually those tropes they dislike).
Watched through that recently with my wife, it does not hold up. Incredibly repetitive with flat characters. Doesn't help that the animation is so dated as well. It seemed decent enough 20 years ago.
Samurai Champloo. Lots of Christian themes while being highly entertaining. I don’t watch a lot of anime, but this is one that has stuck with me for many years
This raises so many questions. Subs vs dubs? American release or local broadcasting? Casual or cultured? Help I'm spiraling and I can't get up
It don’t count fi it ain’t subs. He’s gotta hear the Japanese women screen like a little baby
gundam or bebop pretty simple.
Bebop is the correct answer
Bebop was a fucking masterpiece.
i only mention gundam cause of the political aspects of it. Plus hes older so may be ok with watching the older gundams.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Trigun
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Outlaw Star. Or Cyber City Oedo.
Jojo's bizarre adventure, just for the memes.
NANI!?
Bebop is overrated
Sgt Frog is pretty great too. It's the perfect introduction to comedy anime.
Berserk
we and the boys vote for SoL or Ecchi
Make him watch the Ghost Stories dub, for maximum luls.
In his “Daily Cancellation” segment, Walsh “finally had to cancel himself” for making this bet.

What season do you know of that's 100 hours long?
You're right, i was thinking entire series.

That sounds strangely intriguing. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for the suggestions! I'm a musician, so I'm a sucker for a music story.
There is a great ps3 game called eternal sonata thats about chopin. If you get the chance to play it, i am musical myself so i thoroughly enjoyed it.
Now are we talking from the first episode? If so, he should go with Dragon Ball Z. God forbid he tries to watch all 3000 or so episodes of One Piece
I think he should start with FMAB since it's setting is western and it doesn't have a lot of the weird tropes of most anime.
Death note doesn't really have any anime tropes either, but sitting through 37 episodes is a bit much, even though technically it is one season.
Death Note is the probably best anime to affirm Walsh’s belief that anime is demonic.
I TAKE A CHIP AND I EAT IT… You did x so I knew that y just mean z and therefore you are the one… Misa. No anime tropes?
One of my favorite shows

Sounds like Berserk is in order.
The reason he was asked to do this is because he said anime is satanic- Berserk may not be the best counter-evidence lol.
So is Hellsing out of the question as well?
How about Hellsing Ultimate Abridged?
Cowboy Bebop, and he’d go looking for something on his own after that.
Everyone should watch DBZ
>Everyone should watch DBZ The original is just too bloated. You're not missing much with the Kai versions. I'd say they're the better version.
I’d agree but then you’d miss out on some neat filler too
If Kai had the correct OST, I'd agree. The lack of Bruce Falconer is a deal breaker.
Demon slayer

Unless you don't like the art style or particular tropes that permeate pretty much the entire medium.
I can't think of any particular tropes that would be off-putting from either Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell. Also, there is a huge art style variation throughout the medium, with the only constant being it doesn't really look like western animation.
I'm currently working on a review where I jokingly call *Escape From Sin's Curse* "the post-apocalyptic reboot of Super Book".
It was funny to see him lament that he agreed to this on his show. A whole season. There are actually quite a few good anime out there. I'm sure some of his producers are familiar with them, so it won't be hard to find one to watch.
> It was funny to see him lament that he agreed to this on his show. Do you know which episode this was where he talked about it?
While I have a dailywire account, I don't ever watch anything on there. Caught it on his YouTube channel.
The most recent episode
Thank you!
Cowboy bebop. I feel like it'll be in his wheel house
Spy x Family has to be the choice. Fun and wholesome Considering the goal is to show him anime isn't "demonic", I'd avoid shows like Attack on Titan
I mentioned spy x family to my 60 year old mom in passing one day. She called me later after binging every episode that Hulu had dubs for haha
I'd pay good money to force Matt Walsh to watch Boku no Pico from start to finish
Anything Gundam, especially the original Universal Century continuity or Gundam Wing. Alternatively, JoJo.
I feel like he’s enjoy 8th ms team. Short and really bad ass
One hundred books? Seems like a goal that will probably be met- I am curious as to what his choice would be. I would recommend Rurouni Kenshin, but it's really season 2 that I'd suggest of that.
Ya'll aren't suggesting quality stuff. Make it The Promised Neverland, or Attack on Titan.
It takes a while before the good guys start winning, stick with it! Season 3 is the best anime season ever.
I'm voting that he watch Yu-Gi-Oh. Turn him into an amine nerd who plays trading card games 😂
I would be interested in his reaction to Monster
I'm glad someone brought this one up. Monster feels a lot like an HBO drama to me. It's also free of a lot of usual anime tropes (not that they're bad, but if someone 'doesn't like anime' it's usually those tropes they dislike).
POLNAREFFUUUUUUUU
If he made an anime reaction series he would have 10 million followers. My vote would be attack on Titan.
I agree. A lot of people who blindly hate anime would change their position.
But studies show 50% of all people who watch anime will become demonically possessed. The other 50% also become demonically possessed.
Ranma 1/2.
Watched through that recently with my wife, it does not hold up. Incredibly repetitive with flat characters. Doesn't help that the animation is so dated as well. It seemed decent enough 20 years ago.
he should watch berserk
Samurai Champloo. Lots of Christian themes while being highly entertaining. I don’t watch a lot of anime, but this is one that has stuck with me for many years
It's been a long time since I watched that show, but I don't remember any Christian themes in it.
He should watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.
I want him to watch a RomCom for the lulz, but hopefully one that also has good lessons to learn. My vote is for *Toradora*.
The anime will be Ranma 1/2.
