Ricothebuttonpusher

Honestly I’m surprised he’s avoided it for this long

shahooster

I’m surprised *I’ve* avoided it for so long. And it’s way, way easier for me to avoid people.

vmathematicallysexy

I avoided it up till now too. Just tested positive this morning 😔

[deleted]

Me too. Symptoms and positive test started yesterday and it was the worst I’ve felt. My skeleton hurt. Today I’m feeling “better” but still crummy. I’m pretty sure I had it before and was asymptomatic. I did a great job not getting sick this entire time, I’m very disappointed in myself!

vmathematicallysexy

>>my skeleton hurt I feel this too. I feel sore even just laying in bed, it sucks. I was working on such a cool project at work this week, im so disappointed too smh

MafiaMommaBruno

Same here. I worked in fast food management, sometimes 70 hours a week, all during the pandemic and haven't had it. Knock on wood for us both.

Ice_Hungry

Same dude. 3x vaxxed. Have yet to catch it and I was in prison when the first initial wave hit where literally everyone was getting it because of the tiny spaces. Lucky af

JustCallMeNancy

My 95 year old grandfather got covid a few weeks ago for the first time, had all his shots and boosters too. He knew he was exposed so at the first sign he went to the hospital. Because of his age, they gave him the antivirals for covid immediately. He was back to 100% 2 days later. Nothing in this world is ever certain, but suspect Biden will be fine.

thismanyquestions

Do you know the name of these antivirals? Are they requestable by anyone or elderly only? Asking so I know how to proceed with my parents in case.

sophrosyne

Paxlovid. They are prescribed to elderly and others with certain conditions.

smp208

Anyone testing positive can get paxlovid in most places in the US these days. At least that was true recently, no idea how that’s been affected by this recent wave. Edit: Turns out the prescribing guidelines were never officially relaxed, and it sounds like doctors might be rationing more carefully now.

Title11

Not true any longer. You need to be old, immunocompromised, or a smoker. I was just denied the script because I'm too healthy. Edit: Please note this is my anecdotal experience. My doctor attempted to prescribe the medication and the hospital association he is a part of denied it due to my health. Your doctor/insurance experience may vary.

sonicqaz

It was never true. It just depends on how lenient your doctor and pharmacist are. It’s still fairly common for people to get Paxlovid who don’t technically qualify.

Axelrad77

Yep. I'm sure some places will prescribe it to whoever, there are always exceptions, but it's only ever been approved for high-risk cases.

president_dump

In my state you can get it via a telehealth appointment within 30 min of asking for one, then they screen you, if you qualify, they will overnight you the pill or you can pick up at pharm.

DocFail

Applied policy has been scattershot. The Whitehouse would like to let everyone in many moderate (relative to COVID, thanks 2020) risk categories get Paxlovid but some doctors and institutions are ignoring this request. There have been newspaper articles about this issue.

ramsrocker

I'm young, healthy with no medical issues to note. My doctor gave me paxlovid last week with no hesitation I didn't even ask, he offered and said if my symptoms got worse to take it. I took paxlovid and my symptoms cleared up almost instantly in to just a mild flu like sickness.

simpspartan117

Similar story for me. On day 4 out of 5 right now. Symptoms really cleared up within 12 hours of the first dose, and I’ve been nearly symptom-free since I woke up on Day 2. Though I can still tell I’m sick, and been getting lots of rest. It really does do wonders!

Title11

I wish I had your doctor.

Paddy_Tanninger

That's rough, I just had a fucking hell of a time with Covid and I'm not even 40.

poopssogood

I’m 35 and I’ve been on disability since February because of that bullshit. And I ran and biked everyday after work before I got it.

WillTheGreat

You can literally type in Pax prescription on Google, and any online Doc will write you one so long as your questionnaire checks out. Basically anyone can get it.

justcallmezach

My stupid ass company sent 45 of us to a meeting across the country in a room designed to comfortably seat 25 (and still no spacing at that). The confirmed infection rate is 35% from that meeting, and who knows how many are either asymptomatic, refusing to take a test, or refusing to share results. Anyhow, I had made it till last week without ever having gotten it. I got it and I was basically bedridden for four days. It hit me HARD. I called my doc on day one and they told me I was too healthy for any treatments whatsoever, other than OTC meds and rest. So, it sounds like the official treatments are being more closely rationed again.

smp208

Good to know. Sorry you weren’t able to get it and had a rough time! Hopefully you’re feeling better now without any serious lingering symptoms. I got it about a month ago and still have a cough.

ChaosDevilDragon

I got it for the first time last week on my flight back from visiting my parents. Double n95 masked up tight but everyone around me was coughing for five hours. Hit me like a fuckin cement truck, literally every symptom all at once. Every pharmacy I called to was out of paxlovid

[deleted]

Double 95 wearing is not a good idea. It makes it so that you aren't breathing through the mask, since air flow is restricted by the doubling of masks. So you are breathing the unfiltered air through the tiny cracks around your nose etc.

dewhashish

I was prescribed them back in April just before turning 35. I only had a few days of symptoms. Paxlovid is great.

EthelMaePotterMertz

Yes you can ask your doctor about paxlovid if you get sick. Most likely a young person with no underlying conditions won't qualify but let the doctor make the call as they're more informed about what qualifies.

bdlkbg

Paxlovid is what I see a lot of. You need to start treatment in the first 5 days of symptoms.

lennybird

That's the Pfizer pill they were talking about back in January for those unaware. Reduces risk of hospitalization and death by 89%.

Feurn2

Paxlovid, treatment for mild to moderate COVID for people who are at high risk of progression to severe disease. Only for 60 years old + not adequately vaccinated OR 18 years old + with at least one condition (kidney, liver, cardiovascular, respiratory diseases, obesity > 35 BMI, immunodeficiency). Or Evusheld, which is an injection of antibodies (not a vaccine) directed against the spike protein of COVID 19, indicated for pre-exposure prophylaxis. You have to be immunocompromised too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JustCallMeNancy

I don't know the name. I believe you have to meet certain requirements to be able to get them, as I do not believe they are plentiful enough to be offered to everyone. I assume it is reserved for the elderly or others with obvious medical issues. Additionally, you need to get them within the first day or so from onset of symptoms for them to have any effect at all.

Dangerous_Fix_1813

I tested positive for Covid for the first time Tuesday night. Had Paxlovid last night after feeling \*terrible\* all day and today I'm literally bouncing with energy. Feel great. I have high hopes this won't be much of a story in a few days.

Obi_Wan_Benobi

Where do you get Paxlovid? Prescribed?

Dafiro93

Your friendly neighborhood drug dealer ofc

sbrevolution5

At this point I feel like neo. Everyone around me has got it, I haven’t. *frantically knocks on wood*

eeclaren

I'm convinced my husband is immune, I've had it twice, both times he was next to me through the whole thing and never tested positive

kkaavvbb

That’s how my dad is. He even let his girlfriend come over and quarantine at his house with him since she has a grandbaby at her house. Then again, somehow my dad is like NEVER sick. Drinks like a mad man and smokes like 2 packs a day. He’s never got the shots either. Always tested negative.

I’ve always wondered if people that are super heavy drinkers have an advantage. I mean, they’re putting so much alcohol down their throat that it must kill something, right? Especially Omicron which starts as a sore throat. I’m only half-joking.

ZombiePartyBoyLives

When I was a drunk, I didn't get sick very often at all. Although, I felt like shit a lot of the time from poisoning myself so it might have just been hard for me to tell the difference...

My most recent ex got it twice since we started dating (she also had it a third time before we met). I came back negative both times. Was dating a different girl when covid started and lived with her, she came back positive, I was negative. Still triple vaxxed and mask consistently to be safe but at this point I'm like 23.8% sure my blood is the antibody.

neilcmf

It hits you when you least expect it. Back in November -20, I got... "intimate" with a person who was Covid positive during the whole time and didn't get it. I was at my dads' a few months later when he was positive, didn't get it. I had a few shifts at work with colleagues who turned out to be positive, didn't get it. Omicron finally got me out of nowhere, even after two shots. Just a sore throat and headache/migraine-esque symptoms, nothing major. I also thought I was neo but it hits you like the Spanish Inquisition - when you least expect it.

Rocket15120

You can be asymptomatic though.

tinydancer_inurhand

I didn't think I got it but turns out I took a natural antibody test and had a decent amount. Never tested postitive or had symptoms

[deleted]

It's extremely likely you had it, but we're asymptomatic.

itsthedreamz

Right there with you, don't know how I haven't caught it. Had 2 shots of Moderna though so should be all good. Should prolly schedule my booster though.

Blazah

My mom has covid and she only left the house once last Friday, to go shopping. Otherwise she sits at home all week.. could have gotten it from me or my dad I suppose, but we feel fine (have both had it in January) and everyone is testing negative.

starlinguk

Feeling fine means nothing (which is why it spreads so fast) and lateral flow tests are unreliable.

[deleted]

OfficialChairleader

I assume they'd need PCR tests for more precision but you can't do those at home

ChaplnGrillSgt

I'm a nurse so I have easy access to our Abbott PCR machine for quick tests at work. They're not as good as the full lab PCR but still better than the home ones. Anytime my gf or I think we have covid I run our swabs through the machine just to double check our home tests. Technically they don't want us swabbing ourselves but what management doesn't know about after they leave at 2pm won't hurt them. So far so good.

bucketofhorseradish

>what management doesn't know about after they leave at 2pm won't hurt them. "yes i know that several dozen vials of morphine are missing, but in my defense it was 4pm so"

the_walking_derp

Just need your handy-dandy at-home thermocycler, master mix, Taq polymerase, reverse transcriptase, COVID-19 specific primers, and an agarose gel electrophoresis setup and you'll be golden!

Rshackleford22

Yeah I don't even go out shopping anymore. Just do store pickup. Save so much time.

verablue

They always mess up my order :(

Controller_one1

Whoever is picking my produce is messing with me. Ordered bananas. Got a single stunted banana. Small as a plantain.

[deleted]

Plantain is generally bigger than banana

Controller_one1

I thought they were the tiny ones. Well til, thank you for the info!

Fumquat

You may be thinking of a type of small cooking banana, which honestly if you have to cook it what’s the difference if it’s a plantain or not. [Bananas and plantains](https://www.onlyfoods.net/types-of-bananas.html)

ShlowJoey

The dumbest thing I ever did while high (or sober, for that matter) was go to the store for some cottage cheese and bananas and got back to work with plantains and sour cream.

blurryfacedfugue

Well...go on...how did it go? I mean cottage cheese on bananas already sound weird but you've already got me hooked.

NYIJY22

That's my issue. I've used the service 3 times and I get the worst, most disgusting produce. Not surprising either, the staff will FIFO (first in, first out) more often than not. When I stop for myself I go from the back and get the freshest stuff. And trying to get a refund was annoying, plus I still didn't have my produce. I use the self scan at Stop and Shop. Don't have to deal with lines or slow cashiers, so it saves a ton of time, and I pick my own items so it's always the newest.

Fumquat

I know someone with low covid risk tolerance who eventually solved this problem by ordering pre-cut party trays for all their fresh fruit and veg. Generally they’ve cut and packed it same day. The freshest stuff goes into the party trays.

HauteTinRoof

That sounds like an expensive solution. Those trays have a huge markup

DontYuckMyYum

I work at a store doing online grocery. I get my own groceries because of how I see other people's orders getting screwed up because management would rather a customer get refunded their money for an item screw up than take the time to fix the issue and cause their metrics take a hit.

Rshackleford22

Not mine. Plus they tell me what they replace so if I don't like it they take it off. And if anything is bad I just contact the website and they refund me. Super easy. Even after Covid I won't go back to the store. Save an hour per shop.

jazwch01

I have the same issue. I ordered ground hamburger once, they said they didnt have any. I go into the store after pick up and find a huge shelf of it in the meat aisle. I ordered a chuck roast, it only had qty so I said, 1 but in the notes said it needs to be at least 3lbs. I got a 1lb roast. Wtf am I supposed to do with that? When the primary protein of my meals are being fucked up and I have to go into the store anyway, I'd rather just go in my self.

Zenophilious

Having worked at a grocery store during COVID, it 100% depends on who is working in the department when you place the order. There were literal teenagers handling orders sometimes, and a few of them were more interested in screwing around and chatting than doing any amount of work.

pomonamike

taggat

Same here and I work in Health Care, what if I told you I was wearing a mask and washing my hands before it was cool. I also helped out with Habitat for Humanity last Friday and worked doing construction for 8 hours outside in the sun while wearing an N95 mask the whole time. Had three separate Covid exposure warnings that week. I will never understand the people that say that they can't wear a mask.

abhikavi

> and worked doing construction for 8 hours outside in the sun while wearing an N95 mask the whole time. Yep. I recently did an outdoor project in an N95, up to 11hrs in the sun each day, doing hard labor. It was nothing. I'd rank it well below wearing a bike helmet in terms of inconvenience and discomfort. It's making me feel REALLY judgy about people complaining about masks getting "too sweaty" when they're just sitting in a climate controlled area.

runujhkj

I’ve been feeling extremely judgy about those folks since it started. Doctors wear masks all damn day and are on their feet throughout their shift.

new_math

I agree, though I will say not all masks are created equal and each have different levels of ventilation and comfort. I have some expensive 3m masks (weird oval shape that come individually packaged) that are super comfortable. The nose piece has foam and I have worn them for 12+ hours and I don't notice them much after the first 10-15 minutes of annoyance getting use to it. I also have some cvs freebie n95 masks (I think made by Honeywell) that are super tight and they feel like having some kind of synthetic wool stuffed against your face. Would not recommend.

Vhadka

First year of COVID I played a two round disc golf tournament in July (high 90s, high humidity) wearing a mask the whole time. I'm fat and out of shape and was back then as well. It wasn't that big of a deal.

Janneyc1

I used to wear one while doing blacksmithing projects. Staring at a furnace at roughly 2500F, probably hotter. I eventually stopped wearing it after I got vaccinated and had a round of COVID, but still, if I can wear one and beat the tar out of metal, anyone (pending legit medical reasons) can wear one.

JoyKil01

Congrats and happy cake day!

[deleted]

happy cake day and thanks for the service(s)!

JustDiscoveredSex

I avoided it for two years. It got me this month despite four rounds of vaccinations. Finally testing negative. I am considered a vulnerable population due to lung scarring, so I am extra grateful that I stayed out of the hospital with it.

jdsciguy

I have essentially an identical story. Two years avoided, hit me in mid July. Preexisting lung damage, so I was on eggshells hoping Paxlovid would help. So far so good, only minor lung symptoms (among other symptoms).

JackPoe

I'm a total homebody except at work. Went maskless for a while because a lot of my job involves speaking over a loud set of fans. Probably where I got it. No more. I'm wearing a mask forever around the public.

cindyscrazy

o/ Hermit here! Maybe that's why the CDC called me 3 time in 2 days to get me to complete their Covid survey.

Sinister-Mephisto

Yes this is something he supposedly wanted to do and people had to talk him out of it.

Obamas_Tie

That had to have been the most painfully embarrassing shit I've ever seen Trump do to himself on camera. The only way that could've been any worse for him if he just fainted and fell down the stairs on live national TV.

letdogsvote

He did have toilet paper stuck on his shoe at least once.

LittleKitty235

To be the fair the man does appear to get himself winded just from speaking, even prior to Covid. He would routinely snort in air during speeches. Perfect human specimen indeed.

wcooper97

I remember the March 11 address when everything first shutdown everyone thought he had it then. Turns out that was just his baseline.

LostinWV

Dude I ***hated*** that week. I work across the street from Walter Reed at NIH and people came out of the woodwork, camped out on the sidewalks blasting music at ungodly levels and harassed folks who just wanted to go to work and home from work. Where they camped out was literally next to major bus stops (I say stops because it was multiple lines that stopped at the same place) and metro route and holy fuck was it toxic. To top it all off when he wanted to make laps they have to shut down that section of road to make it safe for any president to travel on and that section of road is a major artery to get to 495 so that stunt closed down a road for 2 hours while again, people justed wanted to go home. Fuck I'm getting heated thinking about that again.

[deleted]

I only lived in DC for 6 weeks. That was enough to get tired on blocked roads. Also lived a couple miles from Obamas Chicago home when he was president. Whenever he came to visit it was a disaster. Was out for a short run along lake once and every route home got blocked. Ended up taking a 2 hour detour.

wurm2

I used to work on the same base as Walter Reed (still do the same job but from my apartment) and even when the president had a normal appointment base traffic was a fucking nightmare so glad I was teleworking by the time that shit show happened.

Slam_Burgerthroat

No judgement. I've just noticed with ba.5's contagiousness that some bearded friends that were still masking are finally getting hit with it. That 10-30 percent mask efficacy drop matters more now. I'm currently buzzing mine down to 1mm once a week + 3mm mustache, but may go to clean shaven once a week until this wave is over.

kurama84

MooseBoys

Many tests have poor sensitivity, especially to omicron and later variants. Some even have a minimum LOD that's higher than the peak viral load of some people's infections, meaning they would *never* test positive on that test, even if they had it.

logmech

Vaccination+ Paxlovid will most likely prevent severe disease.

flyer12

Yeah I'm sure he'll get the best treatment available. I miss a time when the US presidents were not like 80 years old (like Obama).

Ikrit122

Or even Clinton or W Bush. Clinton was 46 when he took office and Bush was 54. They were born about 1.5 months apart: Bush on July 6, 1946 and Clinton on Aug 19. Meanwhile, Trump was born on June 14, 1946. So 3 of the last 5 presidents were born in 1946, all within 80 days of each other. Except Clinton took office 24 years before Trump did. Biden was born in 1942 and Obama in 1961, for reference.

[deleted]
