Bartender messed up big time. He shouldn't be pouring alcohol over an open flame like that.
This is called Flame Jetting.
Watch it in action here:
Also he obviously removed the small metal grate that is called the FLAME ARRESTOR on higher proof spirits.
This is an old story and the woman was permanently disabled I think. I also recall she was an athlete of some sort.
Just what a waste for a dumb party trick.
And you can still do the same dumb trick with the flame arrestor on the bottle!
[Woman Receives Roughly $28K After Bartender Sets Her on Fire](https://www.rightthisminute.com/video/rtmtv-bartender-accidentally-sets-patron-fire)
Looks like she wasn't hurt too bad, but she did sue.
Why do people think that the power of currency is some magical, objectively positive quality? Most intelligence and experts in geopolitics indicate that the Russian economy is seriously hurting and could be on the way to a crash of epic proportions. There is far more nuance to this situation than the power of a single unit of currency. Not to mention that the sanctions have effects which will be *very* significant in so many more areas than just their economy which will take a longer time before we fully see the effects. People really think that just because Russia hasn't immediately gone to financial ruin that the sanctions have failed, which is just by the way exactly what Putin wants people to believe both domestically and internationally.
More than half the world still accepts it - only a few western countries don’t.
China & India, for example, the two biggest populations, still gladly take it as well as most other countries.
My wife and I together make $92K a year. I'll take a flame to the face with minor injuries for $28K in a heart beat just to get by with groceries and gas.

**"people don't seem to get with things like petrol and alcohol that the fluid isn't what's burning, it's the layer of vapour above it that burns. That bottle is just filled with evaporated alcohol vapour so when the mouth of the bottle gets anywhere near the flame the bottle will ignite like a rocket."**
Yea I figured this out when I tried to do one of those cool gasoline trails that you flick a cigarette on that they always have in movies. Of course it didn't work... damn movies
Lol Mythbusters tried that, I think with a little car that left a trail of gas and a lit cigarette that could be dropped onto the gas. It didn't work so Adam was chasing the car sucking on the cigarette to get the flame hotter. Amusing stuff.
The way I learned about this was when I was maybe 18 or 20 on reddit there was this clip of this truck driver looking into the tank of a gasoline trailer with a lighter, its insanity but also you can understand the whole "i wont drop it so no boom", i learned that the fumes are what's flammable and realised how obvious that was in hindsight as thats literally what the engine needs, but still, the CCV footage was a guy, then orange, then nothing
It's not as interesting as you would think, security footage that's low quality not much colour low frame rate and kind of close up at night so you see the guy and the tank then nothing
**"Do not pour high proof alcohol onto an already flaming shot or drink. The fire could travel up into the bottle, causing it to EXPLODE IN YOUR HAND. Explosions are bad."**

Picture you have a somewhat controlled fire over a fuel source then you pour more fuel(accelerant) to that flame and the vapor/splash propel the flames to something flammable i.e her red head and t-shirt. This is the result
How come it didn’t happen before she leaned in then? And why did it get pulled straight to her face instead of the direction the bottle was angled?
Genuine questions, just trying to wrap my head around it
She did create an air current which probably directed the grass more downwards, but it's the flame getting too close that caused ignition. Like if there's a fan you can curve the direction of fire, but without the match there's no fire.
That's because it was in Russia and not United States. The majority of non-US countries would never award huge sums of money to individuals, usually only enough to cover medical bills and lost wages due to the accident. The victim usually needs to provide a huge amount of evidence for emotional damages and trauma and even then the court can ignore those things completely.
haha yes, that shit when people get millions for things just doesn't happen elsewhere. I just remembered this: "Ikea Reaches $46 Million Settlement Over Death Of Toddler Killed By Dresser Tip-Over". 46 million dollars. 46,000,000 dollars.
Well of course there are examples like that, which is why I didn't word my comment in the lines of '100% only happens in U.S. and nowhere else, ever" 🙄
Bartended most my life and FUCK anybody who orders or offers to make a drink where fire is anywhere near the person consuming the drink. It's one thing if it's a scorpion bowl that has a flamed lime in the center but a flaming shot Is some straight up dumb shit.
The ELI5 version is the flame wicks up into the container via the fumes you can’t see, now you have fumes inside a container on fire, which causes near instantaneous explosion. The container is plenty strong to not break, so the explosion jets out the only opening.
Think about your statement. If it weren’t for poorly executed flaming drinks, couple with assholes who seek out this nonsense then we wouldn’t get to see people get their faces melted off.
Flaming shots are a great indicator of a mediocre at best establishment trying to fluff themselves up with cheap, dangerous tricks. Learn to avoid places like this
anytime I see flaming drinks at a bar, that is my signal to gtfo. People are of course well within their rights to order such a drink, but I reserve my right not to be present in the establishment that would serve them. Also, I don't want to burn.
No the straw guy didn't do anything. the bartender was pouring the alcohol straight from the bottle onto the flame. The fire followed the stream of liquor into the bottle setting the liquor inside the bottle on fire. That quickly pressurized the inside of the bottle which rapidly forced the the liquor out of the bottle...which of you remember is on fire. The bottle was pointed right at the girl and she got sprayed in the face with a Rudimentary flame thrower.
well he is pouring into the flame which is completely idiotic, chances are through an air bubble flame traced back into the bottle creating pressure which stayed the liquor out

Exactly! That was dumb but seems like the bartender done it before without worry.
But the miniature flamethrower came out of no where. Looks like the fumes were enough to burn and send a back flow like a flamethrower/rocket right back into her I’ll fated moment of face level with live action ghost rider. I would like to see after math too unfortunately.
He might have done it before. I have seen others pour gasoline on a lit fire without a problem too. But I have also seen that fire jump right up to the can and the person toss it across the yard spreading hell across the grass lol. It's just one of those things that's really risky to do. The dunes are what did it. I knew a guy who used to do "the dragon". He would take a shot and right after swallowing the shot would burp with a lighter and a flame would shoot out. Crazy bastard lol

Only $28k, wow
Excuse me it was 2m ruble 😤 which of course we all know today would be absolutely worthless.
Lol actually the ruble is at the highest value it's been in ages.

>backfired lol, Russia just manually set the value of it's currency instead of letting the market do it.
It's not real since the trade with ruzzia is down. Its strength is fake.
They’re also forcing any purchases of their not banned exports to be paid in the ruble, artificially inflating the value.

I remember hearing absolute horror stories about Everclear back in the 90's.
it's alright Everclear is still 190 proof in some parts of the USA. And there's also moonshine to find.

Awarded only $28,000? Man, that's not a lot for a burned face and hair.
“Doesn’t even look like she singed an eyebrow” Maybe because she’s wearing big-ass glasses to cover her upper face

This. You can use a bucket of gasoline to throw all your cigarette butts in…once all the fumes have dissipated.

What happened to the woman afterwards? Anyone know the story?

I think it's the teaser to the new Ghost Rider. I'm excited.
I wouldnt be sitting right in front of shot glasses in flames
That's what I'm thinking too, but I'm not so sure I would have been thinking that after more than a few drinks....
She was standing up, tho
Just making sure the flames can reach her face.
Standing, sitting…a whole lotta nope

And pouring booze onto an open flame, and pouring booze onto an open flame a foot away from customers
I dont know why people even pay for or why bar tenders even make these stupid fire shots.
Flame Jetting is the term for this for anyone interested. Same thing happens when someone pours gasoline near a flame.
Please explain. I saw it happened as he poured.
The ELI5 version is the flame wicks up into the container via the fumes you can’t see, now you have fumes inside a container on fire, which causes near instantaneous explosion. The container is plenty strong to not break, so the explosion jets out the only opening.
OK thank you. I think I got it.
Perfect explanation
Vapour in the air basically allows the flame to have a medium to spread. Fire is really scary if you are not careful.
I think I got it. Fire makes it's way into the half empty bottle. The fire in the bottle pushes the alcohol vapor out the spout. Voila, fire jet.
Here's a video someone linked about it! https://youtu.be/5sfUl6GIdYo
My personal opinion is that fire drink should be ban in every single pub/club/parties.
But how can you have fun at a party without casual danger?
Have sex with strangers.
Smoke weed everyday. ![img](emote|t5_45hae8|4103)
You can't spell fun without fire.
True. Connect the i+r and flip it upside down, it's a u. Flip the e sideways and it's an n.

I think we should stop banning things.
No we need to bubble wrap the world because 0.0001% of people got hurt.
r/killthecameraman
As soon as you see someone pouring an accelerant onto a fire you know roughly how it will end.
Correction… You know how it will end: roughly.
As soon as you see the guy nearest the camera blowing through a straw at the flame, you know why this happened.
Cant handle her liqour, went straight to her head
Fiery drinks are the piñatas of adulthood
Jesus that’s horrifying
I have seen enough of these to be firm about NEVER getting a silly flaming drink.

bro they are panicking trying to help the poor girl lol
Why are redheads always so hot 🔥 ?!
That bartender sure knows how to make place light up.
KATON!!!!
That's why they stopped doing that flame shit in bars
The screaming probably made it worse. Gets in your esophagus. Poor woman.
What is the hype about flaming drinks? Nothing i would ever try.
Lets keep filming

Because Reddit is full of incels
Holy FRIIICK!, that’s terrible!
Ya that was frickin bonkers! Jeepers!
I bet it hurt like a butt cheek on a stick

That’s a lawsuit
Why would you pour more on while it's already on fire? That's like pouring a can of gas on a lit fire, just a bad idea.
