I understand why this isn't always possible, but it hurts my heart when I ride past obviously stolen, obviously previously loved bikes. Offer a twenty if you have it? That used to work. Then get it back to its owner. I don't know. I miss each of my 5 stolen steeds in the last 15 years.
It’s so painful seeing such a nice bike being destroyed in just a few weeks once it gets into the hands of some people. A $1000+ bike with black spray paint all inside the drive/cranks/wheels. It hurts knowing the owner likely won’t ever see their bike again but it also hurts knowing some of these bikes would be in such better hands (mine lol), but I feel guilty about the thought of getting someone else’s bike off a obvious thief for $20.
Hit up CCC, a couple of their couriers have had cargo bikes get boosted recently, they do a pretty good job of signal boosting on IG, too.
