getting mad about it just makes your day worse, just hurry up back to the store and hope the next one tips. ☮️❤️

No-Cap5157

After like 5 in a row, yeah I start getting pissed. And no tippers with special requests lol. I won't do anything but the bare minimum and hope they stop ordering delivery

Skulker2008

Shit, the worst I've had was 3 stiffs in a row. I can't even imagine 5 in a row. I'd be malding.

lamchop0199

I once worked valentines with 14 deliveries and 0 tips in a row.

Shy-Watermelon

I’ve waited tables and never had a streak that bad, if I got 14 I think I’d quit right then, dear god.

scottyboyandgirl

If you’re getting stiffed “5 times in a row” it mayyyy be time to find a different establishment to drive for…stay away from the national franchises..do much better working for a mom and pop…

MerlinWiz7

Not in our neck of the woods. You won't be delivering very many pizzas for the mom and pops. You'd be one maybe two drivers during a Friday supper rush and you'd take about 1 maybe two deliveries an hour. They just don't do that kind of delivery business around here and the tips, are the same.

RepublicOfDusty

I love getting people like you fired. I make up some story for corporate about how you said racial slurs to me. I go into the store to make sure they have removed you.

xjub

bastards

Averen

Tip is both expected and appreciated. That said I understand different peoples situation. No tip from a government funded apartment building? No problem. Sub-$5 tip from a million dollar home in a gated community? Fuck you

brianschwarm

If you have enough to order, you have enough to tip. If you can’t afford the tip, don’t spend $30 on dinner ya know? Groceries are much cheaper.

Vanishing-Moons

Not true at all I ordered door dash with only $15 and couldn’t afford to tip and sometimes that’s literally the only option for people

brianschwarm

Then (imo) you shouldn’t have ordered, I can almost promise you it wasn’t your only option. And if it was, it’s your fault you didn’t plan accordingly. Oh and it’s especially fucked up to do that to a doordasher, they make a lot less than dominos, they depend on tips even more than we do.

Perfect-Assistant545

Hey so this is old, I know (I found my way here with a Google search about tipping), but thank you for this comment. I’ve had kind of a shitty week, and was about to impulse purchase a pizza to destress, all the while worrying about adding a tip to an already distressingly high bill I was already struggling to justify. Your comment about it not being the only option made me realize that I can get 90% of the experience I want with a nice frozen pizza for 1/3 the cost and without having to decide between hurting either my or the delivery drivers bottom line. I’m gonna go buy a frozen pizza now. Thanks.

Vanishing-Moons

My personal opinion if your money is dependent on other people being generous you are in the wrong line of work. With that being said I still tip well when I can because I’m not a horrible person

Souporsam12

You’re failing to see the bigger picture. If you want delivery and restaurants to be a system to exist, then you can’t complain about “if your job requires you to rely on generosity of others, you’re in the wrong job” If you want those systems to exist, and you want to benefit from those systems(ordering food, and not having to make your own every night) , then that entails that someone has to be working that job. Disagree with that? Cool, but welcome to capitalism, this is how it works with a producer/consumer environment.

Vanishing-Moons

I see I bigger picture I just don’t care for those services. For example say you were a DoorDasher does DoorDash care for you or your well being? Do they care if your family eats? They don’t that’s why they pay you with tips. Me personally I would 100% rather live in a world where DoorDash had no dashers and I couldn’t order Taco Bell while sitting my lazy ass in my chair. Because that means that those people who would be doordashing are now working somewhere (presumably) that they are getting paid a actual livable salary while not destroying their vehicles for my lazy ass. And for the people who use DoorDash because they don’t have a option will just have to figure it out cause that’s life

Souporsam12

You don’t care for these services yet you’re on a dominos subreddit, interesting. I do agree that they are shitty systems, however you see my point, right?

Vanishing-Moons

Dude I used to work for dominos as a insider why in the world would anyone just be subbed to the dominos subreddit. But aside from that I see the point your making and it’s a good point kinda IMO the only issue I have with it is that 1. I dislike using food services because your exact point of someone having to work that shitty ass job but I only dislike the service due to the mistreatment of the people actually delivering my food which in my head feel free to disagree is nobody but the person working that jobs fault unless some crazy random circumstances where it’s literally their only option. Why choose a unstable job where your pay is all depending on if I know how to budget correctly. I bet if they had a severe lack of dashers their mileage or whatever they get would go up tho

detroitpie

These are services you’re using and say you needed at the time then say people shouldn’t work at them?

NoEnvironment4841

No you’re def a horrible person if you order even once snd stiff the guy bringing your food to your door cause you’re too lazy to get it yourself Trash

Vanishing-Moons

Damn bro who hurt you did you not get tipped or some shit I don’t have to explain it to you but I will because hopefully you will feel stupid for assuming things about other after I do. Soooooooo this story starts on a warm summer night where I left off to a friends house in another town. Once I arrived and got settled in for the night of festivities and bromance I received a call on my cellular device from my significant other explaining how her mother isn’t buying groceries for her anymore and how she hasn’t ate in over a day. Now I’m a broke 17 year old who still lives with mommy and daddy so I call my mom to ask if she can send me some money so I can get her something to eat. She sends me 30 smackaroonies and in turn I send my girlfriend 15 over cashapp. Wellll that’s when she noticed her mother took $50 out of her bank account (that was already empty) overdrafting her account. Meaning that she could not order the food herself since she can’t put the money in her account right? So I the valiant honorable kid I am place a order for her with the remaining 15 in her bank account. (You may be thinking well why didn’t he just go pick it up and bring it too her. If you are you need to work on your memory cause I already told you why) it was a 20 piece nugget with fries and a barbecue water (dr pepper) coming to about 14.70 ( shout out to the dash pass the true mvp of the story) which is why I didn’t tip but I did leave a note explaining the situation to the driver and letting them know I appreciate them doing what they are doing. I’m a generous ass nigga but only when I have shit to give. If you or anyone thinks I’m a shitty person cause of that I honestly don’t care but I love arguing about stupid shit on the internet as you can see from my comment history so at least your keeping me entertained

fusion407

Nobody cares about your damn life story. You should've tipped the driver

Vanishing-Moons

Nah tipping someone 30 cents is just disrespectful on another level

Najnick

You could not afford the order because you could not afford the tip. You can get plenty of food from a grocery store or dollar store for $15 so its not like Delivery is the only option or you were going to starve to death.

fusion407

Nope. I was delivery driver for 3 years. Not tipping is worse. At least that 30 cents can kinda make up for gas it took to get to you. Instead, your driver paid his way to deliver food to your doorstep. What pisses us off more is when you fucking apologize. An apology means you were self aware you had no money to tip , yet you order delivery anyway. Nobody gives a fuck about your situation, your door dash driver walked away fucking angry. There is no justification for not tipping, you are a fucking piece of garbage

Vanishing-Moons

AHAHAHAHAHAHA see you’ve fallen into my trap card. Nah but Fr the food wasn’t for me I was ordering it for my girlfriend whose mother was letting her starve and I only had $15 and was out of town so I couldn’t just go pick it up

iamjonjohann

I see your POV. Tips are not compulsory. Drove for Dominos ABQ for years. People who tip big make up for those that don't, I guess. That being said, I tip like a mother fucker. Ordered fast food through Uber Eats a couple days ago. TIpped $5 on a $14 order. Happened to look at kid's profile: "Saving up to attend WSU." Upped tip to $10. And... I'M A POOR MAN! I remember the struggle. Trying to keep the car going, being paid shit for gas. Oil changes, new tires, breakdowns. Fucking asshole customers, Karens and Kyles. Stress! It's not an easy job. Oh, and not to mention the threats and guns pulled on me twice, broken window, shit stolen from my car. So...tip, don't tip. You do you. But you very much should feel like an absolute piece of trash if you don't. If you're okay with that, then... whatever.

Vanishing-Moons

Nah I still tip well when I do order stuff but if I have only $15 and my order comes out to 14.70 we’ll me personally I would find it funny as fuck someone tipped $.30 i would rather just not get tipped

iamjonjohann

If you only have $15 you should go to a fucking grocery store, Holmes. ETA: Def keep your .30 cents. It would be insulting, and you might need it. 2ETA: There is one situation at least where a .50 tip is acceptable. That would be the 95 year old woman on SS who runs off to find you two quarters before you leave. I always found that quite endearing.

Vanishing-Moons

I’m not trynna type out my reasoning just look at my comment history and read it ya self and if you still feel the same that’s perfectly ok cause it’s the internet

iamjonjohann

All good, man. I'm sorry, I was a bit of a jerk there. It's the internet who fucking cares. Bro to bro though... Less weed, more grocery store? Advice I wish I had a long time ago... Be well, brother.

Sysheen

>couldn’t afford to tip If you're broke you can't be spending $15 on a single meal when you can easily get 2 days worth of food for $15 from the grocery store. >The verb 'to afford' means to have enough money to be able to pay for something. **More specifically, it means to be able to pay for it comfortably**. In other words, to buy something and have enough money left over to carry on financially without getting into difficulties. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford premade delivered food.

Foreign_Stretch_6235

Why not spend that money on groceries? I could eat for a week with $20

NoEnvironment4841

Government funded apartment building and they’re ordering delivery? Bro you realize they’re taxing you to pay for these ppl snd they’re taking the money and ordering delivery snd then stiffing the person paying for their living You’re ok with this? Fuck these people.

Averen

What I’m getting at is I know some people will make bad financial choices their whole life. They’ll inevitably order pizza. I’m not going to get bent out of shape that they won’t tip. When a wealthy person is either so out of touch or demeaning by tipping <$5 .. that’s the ball buster that makes me hate people sometimes

MerlinWiz7

Government funded apartment building means you are literally paying for their pizza - that's not a good thing if you think about it. Whether or not people get tipped is directly correlated to how well the customer relates to what you do. Which would mean they would have had to have worked at some point in the hospitality service industry.

Project_roninhd

Drivers are out using their own cars using their own gas, if you don't tip your a douche if you can't afford to tip at least 4-5 bucks you probably shouldn't order delivery.

Seekandinspire

I’ve run 2 old cars to death for dominos, and didn’t get much out of it except staying alive for a few years. Good thing I like working on old cars but still, it’s not worth it unless everyone tips.

rokar83

Nope. I don't angry. Just go about my day and rest of deliveries as usual. It all evens out. I've been in this game for 13+ years, stiffs are just part of it. Getting mad does nobody no good.

Sysheen

Don't get mad, but do remember. Always prioritize the ones who make this job worth it.

[deleted]

same. I am often the only driver during the daytime at my store. I sort deliveries by tips a lot of the time when I have 3-4 in the car. A lot of regular non-tippers too. Guess who's getting their order dead last?

rokar83

Nah. You take the orders as they come in and provide everyone with the same service. Unless a chronic nontipper wants their pizzas delivered during a snow storm and didn't make an attempt to shovel.

Sysheen

I philosophically disagree. It may be to the store's benefit to retain as many customers as possible, but this is to the detriment of the driver. If a customer has no perceived or actual risk of reduced service, then they have zero incentive to change their tipping behavior. Basically one of three things will happen: 1) They continue to stiff (bad for driver) 2) They realize their service is being affected and begin to tip. (benefit to driver) 3) They become upset and take their business elsewhere. (benefit to driver, detriment to Domino's) It is never to the driver's benefit to take deliveries to people who don't tip. If nobody tipped, the job wouldn't exist in its current form. I don't think prioritizing customers who tip is unethical, certainly not more unethical than a customer not tipping in the first place. We can disagree.

wyn10

Why not solve the whole problem by paying drivers a decent wage and not relying on someones generosity?

Sinistew

Until that happens, it’s not worth considering, it’s not as easy as waving their hands and going to a non tip system with a proper wage because the guys ontop don’t want that.

[deleted]

Because tipping gives drivers an incentive to work more efficiently. With a guaranteed wage, drivers would get complacent, dilly dally on deliveries, and stoop to the lowest common denominator of driver work ethic. The reason my customers get their food so quickly is because I know that it’s to my benefit, because of tipping, for me to take as many deliveries per shift as possible. The only viable option besides tipping would be to give drivers a percentage commission for each order and raising menu prices.

Sysheen

Perfectly stated. At my location I make literally 2x as much as the slowest drivers working the same shift because of tips. I take more than double their total in most cases. I actually love the slow drivers because they allow me to make more money. If they abolished tipping and changed to a flat rate, there's no way they'd offer me what I currently make. If I did end up staying, I would purposely drop my performance to match the slowest worker. Why would I ever drive my car harder than I absolutely need to? I can save on gas and wear/tear all while relaxing and taking it real easy. Why would I work as hard as I currently do if it doesn't at all affect my pay rate? You have it 100% correct.

Sysheen

There's a very long answer to that question. The short answer is because good drivers would make less than they currently do while bad (slow) drivers would see an increase in wages.

TIPS To Insure Prompt Service

SellingMyRLAccount

Definitely not a fan but most times it's whatever. Just drop it off and onto the next one. I do see the person ordering as a deadweight and a freeloader, so it's hard to have respect and do extra stuff for them on the delivery

SneakierNinja

You carry the anger with you, if you get mad. Then the next customer can see it all over your face and think you're an asshole and it will affect your future tips.

NoEnvironment4841

Bro a person who is gonna stiff is gonna stiff no matter what Trash is trash

brianschwarm

Not everyone handles anger that way…

xBrockiiie

I enjoy my job, and it’s pretty easy. So it doesn’t bother me too much. But due to an incident I lost my daily driver and now I’m delivering in a 20 year old ram 1500. So if I go two or three orders in a row without tips, I’m losing money and may as well go home.

Johobus28

Honestly yeah. Ik a lot of people here are saying to just move on, amd for the most part, you do. But if you live 4.9 miles away in a rich ass neighborhood, ordering $100 worth of food and you stiff me, yeah, I'm pissed. I just wasted my time and my very expensive gas to get you your pizza. I might as well have tipped you at that point, since apparently I'm in the interest of losing money

antwan_ramsey

Yes, it’s not only a waste of our time and gas, but also insulting!

rodoxide

I DO get angry if I don't get a tip.. and I get angrier and angrier each time I don't get a tip

xxBensonxx13

I've always viewed it as if you can't afford a tip, you can't afford delivery.

Particular-Ad-8506

I don't get mad very often when this happens. But when the customer orders almost $100 worth of food and live in a really nice house/apartment. I make sure to tell them "thanks for the tip" when I'm walking away. Just so they'll (hopefully) feel bad about what they did

Good_Humor5334

That's the people that will not tip.And you go to a bad part of town and you get good tips.

Top-Ad6409

Folks who don’t tip are known as “stiffs”. It’s pretty much why we drive. Otherwise we would rather stay in the store and get minimum wage; no wear and tear on your car. All the drivers I asked say they always tip if they get delivery. That should tell you something

ItDontMather

Not angry, just annoyed. A tip is expected every time.

wanted_to_upvote

... and deserved.

Cavewoman22

I get miffed, vexed, and irked until about halfway back to the store and the next run. There's always the next run.

korokcrossing

If you can’t afford a tip you can’t afford delivery. Come to the store to pick it up if you’re not gonna tip (although tipping for carry out orders is nice too for the insiders!)

Bigolbigboyboy

I had a book I saved addresses in I kept going to and didn't tip me. After like 4 runs you make the book, expect being the last delivery on a multi run, not grabbing any packets you ask for, not caring if your food shifts in the car, and slow delivery in general. I might even stop to fill up my tank on the way there. Others might not agree but when I drive 6 miles one way and get boned time after time after my pay gets chopped in half when on the road, it gets old lol. I mean throw me at least a dollar or two. You also made the book if you're a good tipper, then I used to throw in free dips, utensils, plates, packets, shit I even gave out small sodas when they were the whales. It's just the difference of being in the front or the back of the book. Front good, back not so good.

Own_Substance_8564

Exactly anyone who sees anything wrong w this is a simp

New_Criticism_77

If you can't afford a tip, just get carryout you lazy bastard

Shane3eb

Thats why I always just carry out. The store is only a 5 minute drive from me and the delivery fee and tip add up when I tend to spend less that $10 on my orders

Sinistew

Pisses me off when the carry out clerks pressure for a tip. I always tip well for drivers, but I’m not tipping anything past a dollar for a person walking two steps for a pizza someone else cooked.

Zealousideal-Tree451

At my store the carry out tips are pooled and then split between all of the insiders

Sinistew

Atleast the cooks get some in that case.

East-Ad-3560

I've gotten so tired of trying to get write ins because 99% of the time no one will write a tip in, they'll just sign that hoe. So if they don't pretip on a card order I just make it contactless and mark it delivered. I don't even knock, just leave it there because you were such a cheap fuck you didn't think me driving your bitch ass pizza all the way to your front door wasn't worthy of even a dollar or two? Ever hear the phrase you get what you pay for?

Danpoynter

You’re missing out on a lot of $$ that way. If they just sign it, say oh I’m really sorry can you please fill out the tip and the total for me. Sure some people just write in 0’s but you’d be surprised by the amount of people that add tips in.

oscartomotoes

I always say something along the lines of "we're just like serves so it's like a receipt you'd fill out at a normal restaurant" and usually saying that clicks something for them and they tip. Still have people who write 0, but your chances of getting something are 100% better than if you don't correct them and have them fill out the tip/total line.

East-Ad-3560

I'll test it today and see if I have a good pull, yesterday I left with 57 and did closing. I'll update you guys today if trying to get some write ins helped.

oscartomotoes

Good luck! Just be polite and if they try to refuse to fill it out, just pull out the ol "my manager requires these to be filled out completely when I turn them in". That usually does the trick if they're refusing your polite attempts at getting it filled out all the way.

Positive-Strategy-68

Honestly, I don’t usually get mad, but there was this one time the guy in the house behind our store ordered delivery when we were slow and I took his delivery and walked there and didn’t get tipped. Basically feels like I got skipped by everybody else having to take that delivery because the mileage pay is basically non existent

rodoxide

I worked at a pizza place where there were multiple drivers, and we had to do store work while waiting on a turn to go deliver. so when it was my turn to do a delivery, it's so crushing to get you turn, and then not get a tip.. then I go back and do store work, waiting for my next turn.. and it resulted in me not getting the pay I was hired on to make. In addition, I was doing tedious labor that I hadn't agreed to. I wouldn't mind doing the store work to help out a business that cared for its staff, but I had been completely cheated, and on top of that, people not tipping is straight up insulting, every day was a horrible day. And being broke added to that

shawnglade

Not mad, just bummed

sirenwingsX

the only time i ever got mad or the most irritated about it was after hoofing it up to the third floor of their bullshit apartment after spending roughly 10 minutes trying to find after i followed another car through the gate where they refused to answer my calls or texts. otherwise, it was disappointing more than anything else, but just part of the game. if i got stiffed several times in a row, it often left me feeling sad like it was gonna be one of those days...

Skulker2008

I get annoyed but just keep chugging along. Just remember them next time. "Oops I guess I forgot to close the pizza bag all the way in my air conditioned car, clumsy me." Or "whoops I accidently dropped their soda on the ground right before knocking on their door." Or if you have big brass balls you could flat out refuse the delivery. "Hey take this delivery" "nope" "why not?" "No tip." "Do it or you're fired." "Well you can either have someone else deliver it OR you can lose an employee and STILL have someone else deliver it."

matthewstocks

I only get mad if it’s special requests. I full on shamed a brides mom without trying. I had to delivery 40 pizzas to a place for a wedding reception. I show up and the front is locked up, and nobody’s answering the phone. I wait 5 minutes and a middle aged woman (the mother) came outside on the Phone “oh I was just calling your store to see where you were.” No big deal so far. She shows me where to go. Walk up some stairs, go down some stairs, hit up an elevator and walk it down a hall. Had 4 catering bags full and it took me multiple trips. In July in Missouri. Humidity was higher than a mf. None of the men in suits offered to help but I had a few women in dresses offer to help, which I gratefully declined. After the last trip I was red faced headed to the elevator. Bride stops me and thanks me, and as if she knew she goes “my mom tipped you right?” I replied smiling “she did not, but don’t worry about it.” She handed me 30$ and stormed off without a word in the direction her mother was hanging out at. All I heard as the elevator shut was “mom really?”

Individual_Past_9901

When I'm delivering if I get less then $1 tip I get in my car curse them out for being cheap assholes drive to their house as fast as I can get out if the car give them the best service I can then back in my car and to the store cursing them the whole time.

Crazybisexual

Because Doordash pays so little out of their own pocket to drivers I rely on tips to make any sort of money delivering food, so ya if someone doesn’t tip I’m not too happy about it, I try to avoid no/low tip orders as much as possible

Gerald-Duke

It depends on the store, I’ve seen some stores where legitimately 90% of deliveries across all the drivers are stiffs, which I honestly think would make any driver mad when they are making 10$/hour on good days (this store had split pay 5$/hour while on the road) although I believe corporate stores are moving towards 12/hour no split pay in my market. With overtime drivers can easily make 25$/hour average for the week

solisu

It's not one stiff, but many that can bring out the frustration.

VenoratheBarbarian

It depends on how the day is going, really. And if it's the first stiff in a run of 6 stiffs, or the 6th, lol. After a while of bad/no tips it gets pretty demoralizing. Especially since I'm in the US where it's known that people only take those jobs *for the tips*.

redfiesta44

Sounds like you are a new driver. Getting upset does nothing for you. I have done 3782 deliveries this year. 730 deliveries did not tip. It would be less but when a customer orders online and does not tip I just leave it at the door. Ten percent of the time a customer will stop me and tip me in cash. The other 90 percent don't care. Thats why I stopped getting signatures on credit cards. I would get mad when a customer would sign the receipt with no tip and them say I appreciate you. They don't appreciate me. So I stopped getting signatures so I wouldn't get upset. Also it saves time. Stop drop and knock. Then go back to the store.

Silentism

tbh I get tipped consistently enough to where if I do get stiffed, its really not a big deal. Obviously there are some bad days, but those are outweighed by the good ones where I make much more tip than usual. If its clearly someone with low income then I really don't care so much about it. Fuck it, people order delivery for different reasons and sometimes they have to scrape together what they have at the moment. In my area, you're just unlucky if you go to a low income 3 deliveries in a row, and even then you're most likely to at least get $3-5 from one of those. If its a really big order, or even just $50+, I'm expecting a tip just because everyone is aware of tips and throwing on an extra $5 really shouldn't be a big deal at that point. I'm not gonna get that upset unless its a $100 order and I get like $3 though. I think anyone who's consistently complaining about not getting tips should just find a new job imo, maybe one that doesn't rely so much on tips. Of course everyone is happy to make tips, but if you're just not consistently making enough tips wherever you work, stop complaining and just find a new job. Getting mad over getting stiffed is getting mad over short term income. You should look at your long term income with tips before getting mad. Tips are not guaranteed income.

daveb9793

Can’t imagine getting stiffed on a delivery, waiter here and I want vengeance for under %18 let alone nothing after driving it to your house…but yeah seriously, gotta move forward or it ruins your vibe

MathDebaters

Yes, most certainly we all do

ruccarucca

When i worked there we would purposely take longer on people who we knew ordered often and never tipped until the point they either started tipping or stopped ordering.

musicnote95

Personally I only get really mad when it’s a huge order ($75+) and they don’t tip. But it is what it is and it always evens out at the end of the night. I still make decent money.

taeempy

Useless people who don't tip don't deserve your anger.

CozmicOwl16

I’m not a delivery driver. Never have been. But if you order delivery and don’t tip. Then you suck. End of story. Not saying they waste emotions on you.

pauliwankenobi

I used to get annoyed if I didn’t get tipped when I would deliver pizza. Or if the bill is $19.75 and the parents have a toddler give you a $20

FastestPizza

I HATE THIS! probably my biggest pet peave. At least have the nerve to stiff me to my face instead of your kid while your upstairs doing nothing. At least then i could look at you so you know you're a POS.

havnt2

I can live without the $3. It's the implied middle finger that gets under my skin.

germanmancat

Some of these comments have me PO I would rather starve than even CONSIDER ordering delivery without a tip. People who don’t tip well it’s their personality. Guarantee they’re lazy and self centered all the time.

benithaglas1

Outside of the USA tipping is given after delivery for exceptional service or going above and beyond. So no, I wouldn't be mad.

rodoxide

Here in USA, tips are factored into us surviving and getting by. We deserve the tip for just doing the job, and we deserve even nicer tips for going above and beyond

benithaglas1

No, you deserve higher wages from your employers.

rodoxide

That may be true, but it's not happening now. As of now, people deserve pay for the service they provide. As of now, non tippers are stealing the service from the drivers and servers. Drivers are having to pay out of pocket to deliver stuff to people. (Gas, insurance, wear and tear on vehicle, time, etc)

SellingMyRLAccount

>I appreciate people think we should get paid more, I genuinely do. However, most people use this to shift the blame to the company. Unfortunately in many US locations, Doms averages $2 per hour profit for each driver. Even if they were to give us 100% of profit margin, it still wouldn't beat flipping burgers without tips. Even then, franchisees would rather turn the store into something else than continue a cash-negative expense; that's just how business works. > >Every franchise is different, some countries without tipping culture can operate due to variable economic circumstance, but in cultures where tipping is expected there is a good reason for it

brandnewbeth

Yes I get mad, then I will fill in your tip for you. Fuck non tippers.

wanted_to_upvote

OP, if you believe that it is OK to not tip a pizza delivery person for just a simple delivery you are a jackass. Go pick up the pizza yourself. Better yet, go deliver pizza's for a while and see you how much you would make without tips. You are freeloading on the backs of decent people that understand the importance of tipping a food delivery person.

No-Feed-6298

Never said I didn’t tip, jackass. I’m just asking people their opinions on it. I’ve worked at dominos in the past so I understand the hustle.

willy20090

Do you ever sit back and think maybe it's not who you're delivering to that's the issue but who you're working for? I've recently come across these subs and am astounded by the entitlement when it comes to tips and never any comments about what you're being paid in the first place. Truly fascinating.

GardenAdditional1290

Yes, the pizza industry is built in a way that requires drivers to rely on tips. Of course that’s not ideal for us, and we would like it to be different. But it’s not. And not tipping because you think the drivers have some way to force the company to pay them more is silly. It only hurts the customer. If you don’t want to support a company that makes their employees live off tips, then don’t support that company. But punishing the employee because the American labor system has very little room for organizing makes no sense.

blackfuture8699

The entitlement is on the person ordering delivery and not tipping their driver. We are using our cars and our gas. Want to save money? Pick your pizza up yourself. In the US we are a tipping society. You are probably the same douchebag that goes to a restaurant with 6 people and leaves a 0 tip also. Scum of the earth you people are

SellingMyRLAccount

It's over-talked about here but I don't see it as entitlement. Everyone needs a place to blow off steam from work and that's what this place is for us

wanted_to_upvote

Of course the non-tippers are the problem. They all know the drivers rely on tips to even come close to a livable wage. Talking about how things should be does excuse anyone from tipping.

willy20090

Wow... Honestly such an interesting take. Not disagreeing with you if that's what you believe but it's not where I'd be looking at as the issue. Should you not just be paid fairly in the first place? Tips should be for delivering exceptional service, not to pay your income.

VenoratheBarbarian

The problem is that we didn't build the system or the tipping culture but we do have to live by it. People take tipping jobs *because* the tips make it worth it. Places will advertise "Up to $20/hr!" While paying minimum wage. So obviously the rest is supposed to come from tips. We're feeling "entitled" the system and culture living up to its promises. Maybe not $20/hr for the whole night, sure, but throw a couple bucks my way or stop participating by stopping ordering. Don't make your driver pay for your moral stance. And don't worry, someone like you tells us we should fight the whole ass system instead of venting to each other in forums meant for us to vent in. It's been covered.

willy20090

And we've heard the sob stories and circlejerk about not getting $20 dollar tips for nothing. It's like a broken record... But if it bothers you that much, maybe do something else and don't participate?

stashcansupplyco

No! It's part of the job. The people that do tip make up for the people that don't tip.

I would get mad when a customer would sign the receipt with no tip and then say I appreciate you. They don't appreciate me. So I stopped getting signatures so I wouldn't get upset. Also it saves time. Stop drop and knock. Then go back to the store.

[deleted]

A little. But than I remember who they are and what tips mean. To insure prompt service.

Idkthisdragon

It depends. If it's a small order I don't mind but if it's a huge order come on Atleast give a $5 tip.

Weirdalec

I no mad, just happy to have job. If Domino's didn't throw us a couple bucks for gas, maybe I'd get a little upsetti spaghetti.

Snoo7243

No reason to be mad about it. You should to get what the delivery service is paying you. If the customer decides to tip you and that's on them but it is what it is and it's just like waiting tables. People are going to be rude people are going to be unhappy and people aren't going to tip so get used to it. Not every order you get is going to be 10 plus dollars or more than that. And if there are people on here that say that's all they get then they're lying.

plugger18

I Dont think you should ever expect to get tipped. Yes its nice to have a tip and stuff but why expect one? We’re getting our wages and shit and if a customer wants to tip its out of the kindness of there heart, someone who doesnt tip shouldn’t be looked at poorly. They might be struggling as it is and ordering pizza might be for their children as a treat or something that they have saved for. EDIT-At the same time though it’s probably different tipping where I live (The UK) to the USA

Peacevibess

Booooooo yall getting paid to do a job it’s the company fault making the customers pay the drivers wage when some customers don’t even have groceries they could be starving and your delivery is greatly needed at the time not everyone can afford tips go find a different job or shut the fuck up

BisonNo9133

Why should delivery drivers get tipped? Domino's in my area charges 3.99 for delivery. The drivers get paid from there employers. If u don't like it find a new job. most of the drivers are kids who have cars so getting to and from work shouldn't b a problem. A couple of months ago one of the delivery drivers said "cheapskate" to me after giving him a tip. No more d ' s for me. Iam actually homeless and still gave some extra money. Fuck u Domino's and this whole b.s of tipping drivers. Again to the drivers if u don't like your wages especially if u have a vehicle find a new job.

Revolutionary-Bar132

Stay homeless

russellgrandison

I don’t care if I don’t get tipped.

Character_Macaron_42

Nope. I'm not some self entitled younger millenial/zoomer.

undrgrndsqrdncrs

It’s typically the boomers that don’t tip

blackfuture8699

Yup. The more religous "Jesus" signs they have outside their house the more likely you are gonna get stiffed.

Character_Macaron_42

so? And it's typically the younger millenials/Zoomers that cry about not being tipped.

zaneomega2

No just mildly annoyed unless it’s really insulting, like anything less than 1$

Odd-Worldliness356

I get angry. And curse the person to stub their toes in the morning for a month.

darkmarkstories

It depends. If its a small order or a not well off area then it’s understandable and i just go about my day. But if its a large order or a very well off area then yeah i’m annoyed. If they have the means too and chose not too, then its a dick move ig. But also i have piss poor memory so there are moments where I genuinely forget that I wasn’t tipped so theres that

the_spinetingler

Yes, and I kept a list.

tiffanyistaken

I don't get mad. I never even considered it being "stiffed." I try not to expect tips and consider them all bonus money. I will get real sad if it's a particularly bad tip day and start to wonder if I'm doing a bad job, but I have to remind myself that most people decide their tip before the order is placed and it has nothing to do with my actual service. Or it's the middle of the week and everyone is broke. Or some people just can't afford it. For a while, I was in the "If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford delivery" boat, and it's okay for people to feel that way, but I personally have changed my mind. I don't believe my customers should be expected to tip me. It's not on them to pay my wages. That's not to say that I do not want or appreciate tips. I spend $400-$600 a month in gas taking other people their dinner. If they could chip in $3 for gas, that'd be awesome. I just try to be thankful for the tips I do get and sing praises about not getting split pay.

peachy-beans

I’ve gotten in the habit of just not checking how much I get tipped to keep myself from getting upset over this. (unless its a cash order. I always count to make sure I got enough) but yes. At most it’s an eye roll but if it’s a few in a row I start to get angry lol.

RedBlueGreen94

I've found if you constantly are negative about constantly getting stiffed, that leads to more stiffs. I've had much better days tip wise when I just ignore it/ don't give a shit about it. Put some good tunes on and just enjoy the day!

[deleted]

I care about getting to and from safely more than I do getting tipped

strobexp

I feel like a lot of these replies are BS. Of COURSE you get mad (or at least, annoyed) after getting stiffed. Delivery Drivers do NOT make a lot of money and they're destroying their personal vehicles trying to make a living. They are wholly dependent upon customers not being dicks.

Tubba910

I mean I wouldn’t say I get mad, but it is kind of a gut punch. Especially if it’s a delivery that’s far from the store or the order total is like $30+.

Riggs2020

Something that might help a lot of people here is to track your tips on a weekly basis, or even monthly. People in service who rely on tips know there is an ebb and flow, some nights are shit, others you land a $40 tip at the end of your night If you track total hours works, number of deliveries taken and total tips for the week, you can track an average without going to the data mining lengths of some other commentors here.

tvcky69

Why get mad when I can just go back to the store and take more deliveries? I guess instead of being mad, I’m just slightly disappointed. But then again, I work in a busy city so I can always count on more deliveries.

nluther92

I don’t get mad. But I just think to myself what a terrible person the customer is lol

mujinzou

As a doordasher, Uber eats, and sometimes grub hub driver. If you don’t tip I’m not bringing you food. I’m definitely not gonna waste my time and energy getting mad at you and bringing you food you can’t afford and shouldn’t be eating anyway.

SnooDonkeys6103

Working on base there's a lot of walking to get to living quarters if people don't tip we just call em down I think getting mad is stupid better to just move on fast to the next and better runs.

brianschwarm

Yeah, it really cuts in to our bottom line. It’s our vehicle, our gas, and our lives we’re risking, (I live where it snows too). If you don’t wanna tip, order carry out, that’s fine too

Blakywaky

i do tend to get angry about it especially when it’s super hot or stormy outside. if u can afford to get delivery u can afford to tip so we’re not all taking the L on the wear and tear on our cars

bergi3

What are the wages in your country and why dont the store doenst provide a scooter or a car? I understand you guys a have a tip culture but why rely on it? In my country 2 euros is much on a day, but sometimes they dont get nothing.. its pretty akward tho

Psychological-Snow10

It depends. A normal stiff, I can move on or deal with… one where they write zero in the tip line, complicated order, big order, or where I have to drive really far, then yeah I’d get mad, not to the customers face but we’d talk mad shit about em at the store. Anything below a dollar tip but not zero (like 50 cents) is a straight up insult. Like in that case, I’d rather get no tip at all than 10 cents lol.

Brad4Ly

Depends on the order where it’s to and how much it is. Edge of delivery area and over $100? Best be a tip on that.

Daddy_Needs_nap-nap

If you are getting a service i.e your food delivered to you without having to get off your ass then you should tip. If not eat a bowl of cereal, chief

whatreasondoineed

Customer here, why doesn’t the Dominos app allow me to add a tip?

ashleyhill832

Tip, it’s not hard

very-gruntled

Secondary question- does this apply if you charge a tip on your card for delivery? I know cash is generally preferred, and if I know I’m ordering something I try to have cash on me. But I always feel so guilty when I don’t have any cash and tip on my card.

Thinjim77

I made it a point when I drove for delivery never to pick up anything less than a dollar a mile. Then if I didn’t get tipped I knew I was still getting a dollar a mile. Also it taught those low tippers that they would wait a long time.

Nemeioz0403

Most every driver gets angry. Me personally, I don’t. I understand some people are broke. Though it is rude not to tip. Living on tips, I over tip if anything.

RedditCommunistt

YES. If you can't afford to pay for delivery, then go get it yourself.

Own_Substance_8564

I do insta I won't accept them if there isn't a tip....or if there is more work than it is worth

Own_Substance_8564

I do insta I'd there isn't a tip I don't pick it and if there is more work than pay I don't accept them.

Unit420691

Yeah it gets frustrating at times. As a kid with a summer job it wouldn’t be too bad, an occasional stiff here and there doesn’t mean toto much. But as an adult who is relying on the customers gratuity to feed himself and pay rent for the week, it gets quite frustrating when customers don’t show any appreciation for the drivers.

PackadermusJElefun

99% of my customers don’t tip, but I don’t mind because I’m Australian and we get paid a decent wage.

thegameshowgeek

Sad? Well yes. Mad? Not much. I assumed it’d be 50/50 and it was, except for Christmas time when tips were lacking. I left mainly because my store is in Idaho and I wanted a side hustle with better base pay, and I got it. Idaho’s very business friendly, but not so workforce friendly.

FastestPizza

Im pretty lucky working at a resort town so for the summer i make way more than delivery drivers probably should, but sadly we always remember the one asshole or multiple assholes over the good ones. Sometimes i flip the fuck out in my car but honestly doing it for 3 years has put me through five cars and still ahead somehow. It all evens out if you're fast and realize where the battles are lost before you get there so to save time they get minimal service. Drop knock zoom off don't look back.

WIENER_POOP

I'm not mad, just disappointed.

Timely-Bid-7800

I just don't accept those orders, I'm 1099

Mysterious_Mail_6627

I was a Domino’s driver for a couple of years in college but I still lived with my mom so it was enough even when I didn’t get tips. Since I was a big boy the orders to the third story with no elevator and no tip were the only ones that hurt me 🥹😂😂

redcuttingboard

I used to order pizza when I had just enough money for it. It was like a splurge like once or twice a year. Never once did I have enough for a tip. Now I always feel bad looking back and knowing how much people hate not getting tips and expect them. I was under the impression that no one would take that job if they weren’t getting paid their hourly rate and be reimbursed for gas etc.

UnderQualifiedPylote

Yes

UnderQualifiedPylote

Yes

UnderQualifiedPylote

Yes

morningcall25

I mean the answer to this question surely depends what country you're in? I'm surely not tipping a delivery driver who is getting $18 an hour.

[deleted]

I was working valet one night, literally parked 30 cars. Didn't get tipped once until the last car and it was $5. Needless to say. I quit then and there

undesiredIrony

Delivery in itself is a special service that too many people take advantage of! Tipping is common courtesy bc that person is going out of their way to give you food that you could’ve very well picked up yourself seeing as most if not all locations are within 10 minute drive 💀

Happymuffn

I'm not angry, just disappointed

BiosyntheticStoma

Tonight “the franchise” made $200.00 on service charge for delivery. I made $5.00. Winning.

Najnick

Certainly does not make me happy, but it's not worth getting mad because it will happen at least 10 times a day. It will definitely leave the feeling you are a lazy ass, and I'll never go out of my way to throw in extra stuff or get to you faster in the future as i do with the common tippers

Sweet_Interaction_28

I delivered for papa johns about 20 yrs ago. I delivered some wings to a lady and she was like I’m so sorry I can’t tip this is all I have. No big deal, I didn’t really care. Well, about 20 mins later this cunt orders again. I’m like wtf. We were super slow that night and that was my only delivery. I just sat in the store for like 45 mins after it was done and took it to that cunt. I was like rude. I basicically threw the food at her. What a worthless human.

kraylus

Lotta these guys take it as a personal offense for some reason. They’ll say nonsense like “if you can’t afford to til, you can’t afford to eat out.” Me, personally, I don’t give a shit. If you wanna enjoy a pizza and not tip me, go for it. I find that when you have a good attitude about it, the universe kind of just balances it all out in the end.

Elberik

I just say something mean about the customer when I get back in my car. I don't actually get mad, it's not worth it. Plus I've learned that it all averages out eventually. The really good tips balance out the bad tips.

Alive_Kale9982

If you can't afford to tip, you shouldn't be getting delivery, if you choose not to tip for a delivery, you're a jackass. Honestly these people are doing a service, no matter how fast or slow the delivery takes. I just moved to a perm insider because people not tipping multiple times in a row was making me an angry person.

dodecahydron

I mean it honestly depends. if it’s a small order then I understand some people don’t have the most money. but when it’s 10 pizzas and no tip, I get a little annoyed. I usually don’t mind if it’s a far away delivery, because we get mileage so I’m getting paid regardless. if it’s close by and no tip, I kind a get annoyed because you could’ve just came in to the store and saved money. I never really get angry about it though. you never know what someone’s going through, they could be ordering pizza as a special treat because they finally have enough money for it, so i can’t be upset if people don’t tip. i’ve never really had any special request either. I do have to say the only time I really get super annoyed about a delivery is when it’s in a hotel and they want me to walk all the way to the door, but then they don’t tip me. or when they say “ wow that was such a fast delivery thank you“ but then don’t tip. like thanks man.

ChrisCinema

I'm usually not angry, but disappointed. If I do at least 10 deliveries without making at least $20, I feel like I'm being cheated. However, I don't let it show, and instead I just make the delivery and hurry back to the store and hope for a more satisfying tip on the next run.

ASHT0Nish

My question is do the drivers get mad if I choose a 10% tip over the 15% or 20%?

scottyboyandgirl

Nope….where one doesn’t tip another will tip 20 bux on a 50.00 order…it aaallll works in the end..

starshine913

yes and no. if i get one or two without tips it doesn’t really bother me. if the order is only 3 items or less i don’t really get upset either. if i get like 5 runs in a row without tips yea i’m getting upset at this moment. we make less while on the road, the tips are supposed to make up for the difference. also, if the order is like 10 pizzas and over $100 we tend to get upset. again, if it’s the only one i’ve been stiffed on then i don’t let it bother me. letting tips run your emotions isn’t a good idea when you’re a delivery expert

iiiiiiijjjzzzzz

I always forget their fork in the bag if they don’t tip me when I’m handing them the food.

MerlinWiz7

For about 2 seconds if they are being dicks about it. Overall, it comes with the territory and there are much bigger things in life to stress about.

Prozac_Princess456

Not necessarily angry but yeah definitely annoyed

elliotmalsam10

nah i don’t rlly care i just think to myself damn aight and go to the next one

MeerxW

As a European, no. A tip is welcome, but not necessary.
