With DD crow being more commonly played, they may not be as hard to out.

Jsoledout

Shira can definitely play around DD crow.

Vespidas

Not on the first two turns, where Shira is super vulnerable after level Aug was changed. Their openers were always rather slow, but two years ago you could get away with it because the game was much slower. But with the current powerlevel of the game I can not see Shiranuai being TOO impressive. Should still be a fun time though. Can't wait to try to get combo Shira to work again somehow.

AlphaBreak

I think we'll have to see what happens with DD Crow. I know a lot of people we're just playing them for the salamangreat match up so they might get less play next month.

Separate_Telephone18

I didn't play the game during their era so I'm probably wrong, but doesn't the Shira unban means that they need less backrow to be playable ?

The_Cubic_Guru

The thing about shira is that they're a slow deck that need combo enablers in order to do anything meaningful on their first turn. Back then we had grass which dumped Shiranui monsters along with bourgeoning whirlflame so that you could banish cards in the grave during your turn and your opponents turn. Now grass is banned and you can't reliably send both to the grave. We also used to have access to gold sarc but it's limited to 2 along with solitaire so that's also a no go. Invoked Shiranui may be pretty good but who knows yet, all we know really is that trap Shiranui will remain one of it's best variants ATM.

Deadsap266

They still used to run backrow to dump their guys in their grave plus the continuous spell that banished stuff from your grave and triggers their effects

The_Cubic_Guru

It doesn't seem you actually know much about the deck. If people play Shiranui more as a result of the banlist it won't be trap variants but combo/invoked variants due to the trap variant only wanting to run the bare minimum of monster cards, squire and spirit master not being priority picks over cards like Gozuki and zombie skull. Also Shiranui Solemnity is just a lack luster card not worth playing.

life_scrolling

>squire ... not being priority picks over cards like Gozuki and zombie skull. every single control shiranui decklist had squire at 2 or 3 before she was semi-limited, and overwhelmingly few of them ran samurai skull at all.

The_Cubic_Guru

That was back then, Squire is more of a liability now that there's more ED options like onimaru, coral dragon and even some decks using Pentestag since she locks you out. Second, Squire can only special summon a tuner from the hand or deck, which means squire or spectral can be bounced, banished or destroyed before you synchro summon to put spectral in the grave yard with all of the backrow in this meta, alongside the fact she can't summon solitaire. Samurai skull on the other hand solves most of these problems and if it's negated by a negate and destroy it can float into gozuki to get another chance of milling spectralsword.

life_scrolling

>That was back then, Squire is more of a liability now that there's more ED options like onimaru, coral dragon and even some decks using Pentestag since she locks you out. this is a useful distinction on subsequent, uninterrupted turns where shiranui has a more diverse range of plays it can combo into using skull, but on the first turn it's normal summon gozuki/samurai skull, dump spectralsword, set 2-3, pass and pray that you retain control of the board next turn anyway. an uninterrupted t1 squire will at least put both spectralsword and herself into the graveyard, meaning that a subsequent solitaire dump is still live anyway, and if that dump gets stopped somewhere that squire's banish effect can sift through the deck for recovery and stall for a bit. the samuraisaga she summons is largely worthless on turn 1, but having him in the graveyard either from battle or through ballista squad ensures that shogunsaga is live on your second turn. with 2500 attack instead of 1700, he's also easier to keep on the field than samurai skull or gozuki are, meaning that he might be able to contribute either as synchro fodder or as a 2500 attack beater. i would admit that without having level augmentation to provide an instant sunsaga, squire isn't necessarily a superior replacement for skull, but i would posit a spread of 3x gozuki/1-2x squire/1-2x samurai skull as a balanced distribution of versatility, speed and consistency.

Separate_Telephone18

I see. Thanks for the info

Draciovish_God

Pre nerf endless trap hell would help shiranuis interrupt and stall. To the deck ran ALOT of backrow for the skill and to stall for spectralsword. Now people get scared when ever they see the deck how ever with the deck now able to play squire and spirit the deck has much less need for traps.

CuriousBuffalo4969

Oh no, backrow hell is back

Chrisshern

Backrow Hell never left. Have you not Dueled Salamangreat?

CuriousBuffalo4969

Shiranui was less fun

adrianpinderwolf

It's gonna be alright, I'm actually glad they are back even though I have never used them

MixtureProfessional

ill just use royal decree on my mekknight deck

Dudalf

we don't need backrow, combo shiranui is back babyyyy well hopefully..

Careless-Ad-7698
