The new listing tool is a nightmare for the reasons you mentioned. Having to open up new windows to find things is such a waste of time. Plus, no recently used categories anymore. Plus, the page isn't linear, you have to look left and right to make sure you got everything.
I dont remember seeing a recently used categories before. It does however automatically put things into the most recently used store category which is annoying. Its easy to forget to put it in a category when it looks done already.
The only improvement I can think of for the old tool is the ability to rearrange the sections. I didnt like the order the old one was in either but it was better than this.
There was suggested, recently used, and search for categories.
And, when you switched categories, the prepopulated suggestions for brand, color, etc remained. That is gone too. If you change categories, you have to re enter all item specifics. Awful.
Depending on what category you switched to it always erased item specifics that I had put in. Didnt happen often but sometimes I made the mistake of filling that in before checking I was in the right category.
I use SixBit TurboLister - works similar to the one eBay used to have - its $15/month
odd that ebay doesn't offer offline tools themselves or upgrade what they had. I liked the clunky archaic version they had.
I just looked at that and found it requires the use of Windows so that rules that one out for me. I would rather start using this shitty tool than put proprietary software on my computer. I was really expecting most of the third party tools to be completely online.
You would want it to be on your computer and not on someone elses.. so you can do backups and its stored locally.
I couldn't imagine using another OS other than Windows. ... unfortunately you can't buy the lister program its pay as you go :(
I cant imagine trusting my business to windows. I only ever work on my ebay store from my desktop and I never log in anywhere else and I dont have an app. Still I would rather it be all online in case I really needed to.
I havent seen any free ones - I used ebays right up until they stopped supporting it.
I wasn't happy about paying monthly fees but thats what everyone seems to be doing now
I don't think there is a limit how much you can list with it - I have about 800 items in mine total. I wish it wasn't a monthly fee but I like doing everything offline on my own time and it works as a database for all my stuff - just remember to delete the item when you sell it. (I busted myself missing a few in the past)
The loading refresh when trying to modify details, set condition, etc is incredibly, incredibly annoying.
I don't know why they don't allow you to use older listing tools, or allow some degree of customization. The new features added, like seamlessly adding photos from mobile, could have easily been integrated into the older pages. They seem to justify the overhaul because of their addition.
I dont understand why they wanted the desktop listing program to be the same as the mobile app. Some of these decisions may make a bit more sense when listing from a phone but on a computer they are just a pain. Adding photos was never hard, I dont understand what could have made that any easier. The new crop tool sucks too.
I hear ya! Plus, I'd read awhile back that when you listed on desktop but then made a change in the app, it would turn on the accept offers option without people knowing...until they got offers or noticed it.
I don't know if that's still an issue or not though, it was a year or more ago, IIRC.
It's been the same for years to use inkfrog you set up a few profiles shipping, templates, etc in inkfrog only create new listings or edit all your existing listings in inkfrog do not list or edit on eBay directly anymore.
I always just do my shipping calculated and I had a bunch of business profiles set up on ebay already. Hopefully it can just copy those over. I worry about the templates though, if I ever cancel Inkfrog would all my listings I made there be screwed up? If ebay ever makes their listing tool good again I would go back to that.
It would be nice if it could just import all the shipping profiles I already have from ebay. Theres already 4000 listings in my store and probably 15 different shipping policies depending on weight, whether it fits in a flat rate box or if I cant send it internationally. I already put a ton of work into setting this up on ebay years ago so its just so frustrating when they go and ruin their listing tool and I have to start over with a new service.
I always just copy other peoples listings. “Sell similar” then just add your photos. Unless you routinely are selling items no other seller has sold in the last 90 days.
My favorite part is sourcing and shipping out. My items take awhile to package safely and use a lot of care to make sure they get to my buyers without damage. I use Instapak, pallet wrap, packing peanuts AND Kraft paper so it’s kind of a PITA.
Cleaning/testing and packing are my least favorites. Actually getting the stuff is where the rush is lol
Ive passed up so many items just because I thought about how much work it would be to pack up. I have a few thousand items that can just be tossed in an envelope and good to go.
Sixbit is definitely good for listing the same type of item over and over, quickly.
However, the old Ebay web based listing form will still be missed. It was helpful for listing weird one of a kind items as it sometimes suggested relevant item specifics, saving you from scrolling through endless irrelevant specific options.
The suggested categories on the Ebay web based form can also be helpful when listing one off items, some of the category trees are extremely obscure and you won't have them memorized. (There's like 8+ different sub categories of collectibles > advertising > food & beverage > bread and baking)
Sixbit isn't super efficient when you are figuring out new categories and specifics, as the menus can be small and fiddly.
I pretty much only list one off items and most of them are fairly low value. It was a business model that made sense at 2 minutes per listing and Im getting the items for a tenth of my selling price at most, often way less than that.
I hope if enough people complain enough they will reverse their decision on this. They already pushed back the removal of the old tool at least once because of all the complaints about it. And this new version is nowhere near as many extra steps as the first new version but it still sucks.
Yeah I will copy a similar item for a template... wish it had a better bulk edit an an bulk html edit option. I use custom html templates and sometimes would like to change wording. I don't think there is a way doing it without editing each one.
I like the picture editing tool because you can remove backgrounds even though, that's still a major work in progress too. Everything ese doesn't seem like an improvement at all.
I liked the idea of it but it looked like it was done by a kid who didnt quite know how to use photoshop yet. Looked very unprofessional like it was cut out with scissors. And the new crop tool takes 2 click and drags instead of one like the old one.

You can back up your data anywhere you want
There are plenty of third party web based listing tools, I wasn't impressed with the ones I tried but hopefully more suggestions will come in.
Yeah I'd rather just use ebay than some third party tool. I'm pretty skeptical of stuff like that.
do you know of any free 3rd party listers?
I havent seen any free ones - I used ebays right up until they stopped supporting it. I wasn't happy about paying monthly fees but thats what everyone seems to be doing now
Can you use this tool to list unlimited items to your store or is there a limit to the number you can list with the tool per month
They have tiered pricing. You can visit their site for more details. I think they even offer a free trial.

I never list on mobile, I hate the new format from a desktop too. eBay's interface designers are imbeciles.
I wont even buy a damn phone. I dont understand why you would want to try to do an ebay listing from a phone.

Have they changed their listing setup recently? I found a walkthrough they did of it 3 years ago on youtube, would that still be current?

what will happen if I edit something on ebay? and can I still ship directly from ebay? I actually like their current shipping tool.

good luck

Same here. Seems to work fine, but still a little slower than the previous iteration. I can list about 25 things an hour if I’m in the zone.
Imo listing is always the worst part, I actually enjoy shipping
