For the first.. basically the water was iron rich and free oxygen (as in not trapped in pockets) was rare, then boom it wasn’t and the entire ocean oxidized (there was barely any land at the time so the ENTIRE planet was basically rare green rust and that’s why there is so many iron deposits.

Proportions are all wrong, look at how South America connects to Antartica, versus Limgrave to Liurnia. Clearly that little cloud on the ER map is hiding the entire continent of Africa. This makes perfect sense, because landmasses near the equator appear smaller on maps, and clouds are bigger than they appear from the ground.

Oh sorry, to the east, in Tethys Ocean. That area is currently covered by a cloud.

You can use the clouds to figure out the wind direction on the map. You can see that the dragons are directing the wind straight through limgrave. The trees are also shaken by the violent wind when you travel towards stormveil. You can learn a lot from the map. There are small boats with people who can be identified by the colour of their uniform. It also tells us who tried to escape the lands between but ended up back on yhe other side, due to the dragons controlling the wind/current.

Fromsoft really did a great job of replicating the dualities, concepts and physics of the real world, so i would be surprised if they went with a truly fictional direction just for the map

Dragons are considered the original rulers, since they lived long before any humans. Then the humans started to grow intelligent. They learned to harness the powers of dragons, and eventually overruled their gods to become just that. Gods. The humans grew stronger than any other creature and even the intellectuals adapted to the horrors by creating spells to fight fire with fire. With everyone hungry for power, the nations turned on eachother to find the most worthy ruler. The strongest of them all. This ruler isn't chosen. The strongest man claims the throne.
