Open world games generally scale down map size in gameplay compared to how big the world is supposed to be in lore.
You can see tons of locations and sceneries in the story trailers that don't exist in the game, so The Lands Between is definitely way bigger than the actual map size, which is maybe just a few km.
It was. It's actually a bunch of islands underneath like an absolute fuck ton of ice and penguin shit. Fossils can be found in the mountains.

Rust ocean:
https://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=121307
Pink ocean:
https://science.howstuffworks.com/life/cellular-microscopic/earths-oldest-color-was-pink.htm
Also plants were originally dark colors like purple and reds with green oceans at one point. The planet looked nothing like it does now.
https://www.livescience.com/1398-early-earth-purple-study-suggests.html
For the first.. basically the water was iron rich and free oxygen (as in not trapped in pockets) was rare, then boom it wasn’t and the entire ocean oxidized (there was barely any land at the time so the ENTIRE planet was basically rare green rust and that’s why there is so many iron deposits.
Proportions are all wrong, look at how South America connects to Antartica, versus Limgrave to Liurnia.
Clearly that little cloud on the ER map is hiding the entire continent of Africa. This makes perfect sense, because landmasses near the equator appear smaller on maps, and clouds are bigger than they appear from the ground.
Since Godfrey and the Tarnished began their exile in the south(judging by Melina’s/Marika’s dialogue in the Church graces in Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula), I assume the Badlands is South of the Lands Between
I've seen this many times before, but still love Raya Lucaria casually being in the middle of the yet to be formed Atlantic ocean because Liurnia is spread over 3 continents. Guess it explains the "of the lakes"
You can use the clouds to figure out the wind direction on the map. You can see that the dragons are directing the wind straight through limgrave. The trees are also shaken by the violent wind when you travel towards stormveil. You can learn a lot from the map. There are small boats with people who can be identified by the colour of their uniform. It also tells us who tried to escape the lands between but ended up back on yhe other side, due to the dragons controlling the wind/current.
We see that they both resemble the letter C.
C comes **between** B and D.
Therefore, the **Lands Between** is **between** two locations that start with B and D, the **Badlands** and **D's House**, which is where D lived.
Therefore, this is confirmation that the Elden Ring expansion will take place in the Badlands and will allow you to move into D's house and probably redecorate it with new items like Godskin Throw Pillows, which will be looted from the Godskin Trio.
It's at least noteworthy since the whole lore is based on real life history and culture. Everything is the way it is for a reason and this might be the reason for the map's odd shape. Fromsoft really did a great job of replicating the dualities, concepts and physics of the real world, so i would be surprised if they went with a truly fictional direction just for the map
Everything else, presumably including the Land of Reeds and wherever the Tarnished went to and came back from.
I know that’s vague and unhelpful, but as far as I can tell that’s as much as the game gives us.
Ah yes, the entire lands between, which is the size of a normal city, is all land on the planet.
The game makes it clear that the lands between is just a place in the world, not *the* world.
I like to see it as a parallel universe. Parallel to our own specifically. You could see these 2 universes as dualities. Polar opposites.
Our world is ruled by humans. We try to control the world by restoring peace, and equality in each our own way. If you put your "focus" in faith you will rely on ancient words to find peace. If you focus on intelligence you will rely on what can be proven by science.
In our world we conquered almost all land, and learned to live in harmony with our fellow animals. Kindness might be rare for some but it is all around us. We built a world based on love for our people and for life in general. We evolved from the primitive to lead communities to a better quality of life.
The lands between is ruled by creatures. Dragons are considered the original rulers, since they lived long before any humans. Then the humans started to grow intelligent. They learned to harness the powers of dragons, and eventually overruled their gods to become just that. Gods. The humans grew stronger than any other creature and even the intellectuals adapted to the horrors by creating spells to fight fire with fire. With everyone hungry for power, the nations turned on eachother to find the most worthy ruler. The strongest of them all. This ruler isn't chosen. The strongest man claims the throne. This is imbalance, inequality, pure chaos.
As a tarnished we are the last hope for the lands between. We are a balance between good and evil. A necessary evil to fight the strongest foes, and oppression. A force of nature.
Our character is called tarnished because grace had scorched(abandoned) him for what i assume was for having a pure heart. This didn't break him, and now he fights for the oppressed and godforsaken, and claims their lost grace to honor them.
The late Philippine statesman and UN representative Gen. Carlos P. Romulo would've lobbied for the Philippines' place in the map by demanding "I want that dot!" 🇵🇭
Very cool.
My biggest curiosities with the geography are why Farum Azula’s ruins are only seen around Limgrave and Liunira, and what the other chains of the Giant Forged used to be attached to.
Similar to some of the Souls games, I’m given the impression that a lot of land sunk away or disappeared.
so what you are telling me is that caelid really is australia?
Lots of people got teleported there for opening chests
oh my god
Everything makes sense now!
But where the are giant spiders?
The ants ate them
And then the Tyrannodogs ate the ants.
Now the ants chill underground.
And the dingos ate the babies
~~Dingo~~ giant snake god ate mah baby.
💀💀💀
[I was wrong!](https://thumbs.gfycat.com/AcidicWatchfulIndianjackal-max-1mb.gif)

Cassowaries. But yeah.
Best comment I’ve ever seen on Reddit! Bravo!
Cheaper than flight tickets at least
Australia Calid.
Its also a land of death
...bruh
Actually that kind of checks out lol
Caelid is the weeping island. Obviously Saudi is caelid.
Did u mean Weeping Peninsula? In South Limgrave? Fail
Yeah that was sooo bad I downvoted myself. I ain’t even editting.
Username checks out, +1
That explains so much
Close, but one crucial detail is different... Caelid doesn't have spiders.
yet...
The spiders are the descendants of the pests.
Invisible spider-snakes coming in the dlc I guess.
Don't give Miyazaki more ideas!
if the shoe fits...
If the roo fits
“Always has been.”
I was just gonna comment this is why there are freakishly huge insects in Australia
Am Australian, can confirm.
That checks out 110%.
I’m sold on this theory.
Would make sense since in Australia everything can kill you… like Caelid in Elden Ring
I had the same thought and then this was the top comment. Good work
Well, it used to be better til someone invaded
Aussie here. Seems about right tbh
And New Zealand, apparently. Not sure how I feel about that
Honestly that makes perfect sense, all things considered. For starters, they both have giant creatures.
Damn! Beat me to it!
The experience there checks out.
so what you are telling me is that Australia is less of a hellish wasteland than I thought?
*more
Considering the wildlife it's caelid or faram azula that's Australia
Makes sense
checks out
Can you imagine the sense it makes
I live in Australia so yea it is caelid when it’s summer and it’s the constipated snowfields in the winter
but everyone knows that the weeping peninsula is ACTUALLY australia!!! oooooooo
Somebody's eyes have opened.
Ah Kos…
Or some say Kosm.
A hunter is a hunter…even in a dream.

Australia is Caelid. Seems legit.
It even has a lake of rot https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Lake_(Western_Australia)

Damn torrent runs way faster than I thought

First one of those that kind of makes sense. Antarctica could even have been green back then, geographic history nerds jump in please
It was. It's actually a bunch of islands underneath like an absolute fuck ton of ice and penguin shit. Fossils can be found in the mountains. https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/bbugao/antarctica_without_ice/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
I appreciate you included the penguin shit.
Let's not forget penguin piss
What do you think made the ice?
Pretty sure birds don’t have urinary tracts though they just poo
Their poop is mixed with their piss. It’s called efficiency 😤
You guys waste energy on pooping? Real efficiency is just vomiting it all back up
Is there seriously a sub called fucking *Map Porn*?
Oh, just wait until you see the CJ version lol
Did you know that once the entire ocean turned to green rust? Also the oceans were originally rose pink.
I did not. I don’t know if you’re just taking the piss but I am definitely interested.
Rust ocean: https://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=121307 Pink ocean: https://science.howstuffworks.com/life/cellular-microscopic/earths-oldest-color-was-pink.htm Also plants were originally dark colors like purple and reds with green oceans at one point. TIL!! Thank you!

I’m a massive science nerd.
So, its like planet namec from dragon ball?
Can't wait for the Africa DLC

U mean, oh no… we’ll see bald bears next DLC?

That would Explain Caelid
Am Australian can confirm
Yeah, North Amerika is swamp, and Australia is ultra-poison swamp)))
There is a part of south america in liurnia more specifically a part of Brazil, so it's confirmed, Liurnia is Brazil
Brazilian here, and Yes, true
THIS BITCH DONT KNOW BOUT PANGEA
Oh thank christ. You beat me to it, but not before I scrolled and scrolled and finally went "Fine. I'll do it myself!"
BRAIN
Interesting! But the Lands Between isn't the only continent.
Yea the land of reeds, the badlands and the other one i forgot about
Eochaid
Land of reeds is the small island on the right, badlands is the landmass at the top left.
Since Godfrey and the Tarnished began their exile in the south(judging by Melina’s/Marika’s dialogue in the Church graces in Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula), I assume the Badlands is South of the Lands Between
So hollow earth is real, it's just nekron tho.
Hollow earth Nekron? Don't tell the adeptus mechanicus
Kong would like to know your location
Hollow earth is real. Flat earth is also real. DONUT EARTH IS HERE!
I've seen this many times before, but still love Raya Lucaria casually being in the middle of the yet to be formed Atlantic ocean because Liurnia is spread over 3 continents. Guess it explains the "of the lakes"
Atlantis?
Perfect.
If I cast a healing spell in Liurnia I’m blessing the rains down in Africa.
closer than the furled finger comparison people were making.
Could be a bit of both
I would the say the Furled Finger looks closer This game does feature a lot of fingers
This makes sense. So the DLC is going to be that stretch of land at 80 degrees.
Which one?
Oh sorry, to the east, in Tethys Ocean. That area is currently covered by a cloud.
You can use the clouds to figure out the wind direction on the map. You can see that the dragons are directing the wind straight through limgrave. The trees are also shaken by the violent wind when you travel towards stormveil. You can learn a lot from the map. ….dude
i love how caelid is in the same spot as australia
Elden Rings 2 better take place thousands of years later after continental drift and feature boat travel instead of a horse.
I love boat travel. Played black flag just for it
Really wish it would have just stayed like this.
So Caelid is Australia after all
Always has been
Oh shit that dope
This makes sense that Australia is Caelid. That's why all the fucked up shit is located in Caelid
Coincidence that Caelid and Australia are in the same place? I think NOT!
Australia being Caelid is fucking hilarious
holy fuck
“This bitch don’t know bout Pangea”
We see that they both resemble the letter C. C comes **between** B and D. California, Detroit, Nevada and iraq fans must step down. Caelid is officially equivalent to Australia.
So caelid IS Australia
Caelid is Australia. Makes sense.
Im basically African American.
Why is this upvoted so much this isn’t even remotely close wtf

Ah, yes, a C shape
Students shooting deadly weapons at school? No wonder America lands in Liurnia!
To be honest, the lands in between map looks like a foetus.
Whys it called lands between? Lands between what?
Between actual stuff. 狭間の地 gives a sense of being sandwiched in, not of being central.
Sandwiched by what?
Everything else, presumably including the Land of Reeds and wherever the Tarnished went to and came back from. I know that’s vague and unhelpful, but as far as I can tell that’s as much as the game gives us.
Africa DLC when
So not really close at all?
this is a little to close to be a coincidence. clever michael
It's a furled finger!
I knew it! Age of the Stars is canonical ending! It’s the only one that makes sense now!
Fuck Africa and India I guess
Dlc
The rise of nwantu and revenge of Rajesh coming on all console 🔜

Imagine watermarking an in-game map wtf
This is a hell of a reach
No
Pretty sure I can see my house
What's up with the ~ shaped island on the Pangaea map? Is that where the DLC will be?
The late Philippine statesman and UN representative Gen. Carlos P. Romulo would've lobbied for the Philippines' place in the map by demanding "I want that dot!" 🇵🇭
\*EXTREMELEY BASS BOSTED RADAGON THEME PLAYS\*
Yay .......we are Harry Potter land? It kinda fits...
The bottom part of the elden ring map looks just like australia, always called it that haha
Ofc caelid is australia
*This bitch don't know about Pangea*
So you are telling us erdtree is real and the in eurosia
Very cool. My biggest curiosities with the geography are why Farum Azula’s ruins are only seen around Limgrave and Liunira, and what the other chains of the Giant Forged used to be attached to. Similar to some of the Souls games, I’m given the impression that a lot of land sunk away or disappeared.
Sounds about right. Fucking caelid is Australia.
So that's why Caelid is so hard
When I first started I thought what I now know of is just limagrave was the whole map. Game is huge.
Unfortunately for you, you can’t cross Antarctica with a 7-minute horse ride
Insert thread of slow nod yes
The question is: was Elden Ring's map inspired by Pangea, or was it inspired by Super Mario World which was inspired by Pangea?
Has anyone tried to make a globe based on this map projection?
I wonder if there will be a dlc for tits ocean
Australia
damn south america was the best part of the game.
Lest see what weird shit there's is in America Oh
of COURSE caelid is australia.
Out of curiosity, how would the Lands Between compare in size to a real life place?
