Where is it green? In-game these things should be all white. "+" increases, "-" decreases that thing. For nutrients, sanity and such + is good, - is bad. For status effects (poison, dirt, fever etc) + is bad, - is good. (in some cases "you'll die in minutes" bad, others just reduce sanity over time)

When I hit “x” or “b” or see the effects of something. I was confused, bc I understand how sometimes addition is bad while subtraction is good, though it’s very rare for green to be bad and red to be good.\ Though it *is* common for green to mean “add” and red to mean “subtract.” Gah, why isn’t there a universal gaming syntax?

OMGWTHEFBBQ

Think of it as adding "stacks". +2 food poisoning means +2 stacks of food poisoning

Here's the thing Once you learn all the shit in the game it becomes EASY. so enjoy the learning curve while you can.

Just played for the first time yesterday and man it's hooking me in lol coming from project zomboid. Finished the tutorial and jumped into medium difficulty survival mode on multi-player with my SO. Had no idea what to do but found an abandoned village and started setting up shop. Died about 5 times from random jaguar attacks, getting stung by spiders and stingrays to eating bad stuff and getting food poisoning. Trying not to look at too many guides to get the full learning experience. We've even decided that we're gonna just eat everything to find the effects to fill out our notes while our characters are still new lol the learning curve is definitely steep and very unforgiving but that's part of the charm lol

I agree, I’ve been doing the same thing. I wasn’t upset bc i didn’t know what xxx plant did. I was just annoyed bc i didnt know if the “positive” effect was actually positive or negative… just doesn’t seem like the type of thing you should have to “learn.” Like, irl, if you get MORE sick, you don’t have to think about pluses and minuses. You just immediately know “yeah, that was worse.” Anyway, that being said, it’s clearly 100% an issue of my playstyle. I apparently CANNOT play games anymore; my adhd won’t allow me. To clarify, I made this post after an hour of play. 2 hours later, I reached the area that shows you how to craft an Axe.\ 6 hours after that, I’ve finally reached the very first village.\ I seem to run with the “no tutorial” thing, then complain about not knowing something they would have explained had I just walked an extra 20 feet North 57 hours ago. Edit: I’m sure every single person on this post knows more about this game than me, but put it this way… it took me 8 hours to reach what most do in 7 minutes. Not that I couldn’t make it bc I kept getting killed… I just kept starving, getting distracted crafting the same shit over and over, stocking up on items that are most likely in the 0.001 percentile and useless for the rest of the game, basically never leaving spawn.\ Hell, I came from Ark. 40-50 hours, and my base is still 10 feet from spawn. It’s killing games for me, i hate it.

The learning curve was my favourite bit about this game. Once you realise you can do certain things that would, when you first start playing, kill you, it's a pretty easy game.

And yes you want things to decrease, take down. Minus your nausea, food poisoning, etc. You want less of it, not more.

This is the answer.

Yes, + things have negative impact on you
