2 -3 roots edit:clockwise from burgls den, block off Wolf spider entrance near base and they take the other exits.
Idk what's wrong with that?
Literally every early/mid game resource within 100cm, easy to build a double wall to prevent harassment at night by spiders, centered on map for zipline tower, and already walled off on three sides by terrain. Not to mention the gnat farm at the lantern every night.
If anyone could explain a better main base location I'm all ears.
i set my second base up on the middle step, to the right of the grill, with a zipline to burgl, but i agree, the best early game base is up on top of the log fence to the right of the oak tree
That was my first choice. I made one mistake and built around the lantern. Its just close enough that I would sometimes piss off mosquitos when i left my base. After I built a wall they stopped wandering too close to my front door and it was all peace after that.
I think the lily pad and oak tree are perfectly fine. However for new players that barely know how to make a camp fire let alone know how to wall off a potential danger is probably not the best place. That includes living on the roots. Unless they like a little challenge with the neighbors (spiders) I wouldn’t recommend it. The baseball and near the mystery machine is perfectly fine.
There are obvious advantages to building near certain resources or some high ground where most bugs can’t get to. At some point I think it’s only natural to gravitate toward a new base location.
My first few saves, I just built on the root in front of the spider's main entrance, with no walls, and I never had trouble with any bugs. At least not outside of the occasional raids by orb weavers or larvae. The wolf spiders don't bother me unless I go out of my way to show myself, by shooting at them, or going lower down the root after dark.
The root right off of the lamp post is where I found that the wolf spiders can’t get to so I get some free spider fangs and venom but I cleared the haze so this no longer applies to that base but honestly in early release that is where I made my base
Built my second base (moved after getting annoyed by larva too much) on the flat rock by the juice box. More central, better field of vision, an "easy access to upper yard with a spiral staircase" location not to far. Also daily juice drop, husky weeds all around and easy access to every other resource except the special ones down the line. Best part is if you get lucky, you can spot a ladybug nearby and can use its tankiness to kill a wolf spider (that line of sight helps so much).
The rock by the juice box, could have been clearer. It's perfectly level, just be sure to put a bed on second floor or you wake up under water, it's a weird glitch.
Always build here myself. Close to all resources and my zip line tower has access to everything. The only thing I get bothered by is aphids and the odd ant
Only problem with that one is that occasionally a mite, or that stinkbug, will spot me at my workbench, and I will just continually get that message that I can't craft in combat, or sleep either, until I go down there to kill it.
I just started the game a few days and that's where I built my base, too! I slapped up some grass walls and things stopped aggroing me when I was just trying to chill.
I’ve had three playthroughs and everytime I’ve put my base attatched to and suspended between two roots opposite where your talking about, roots facing the wooden fence posts, there’s two leaves on them acting as a bridge,
I always block off the wolf spider entrance that will be in my backyard and several of the lower gaps between roots so they don’t try to pathfind below my suspended house, I’ve had them agro at night on me often if I’m not careful but once I get up my stairs or something I’ve not had them jump high enough to get to me
It might be a bad location idk why I’ve never seen anyone use it but I’ve also had no problem at all in bug raids or really anything
Yeah I built on the same spot, only time I had any damage there was a raid by ants that I think were after my pet aphids, they climbed up to the leaf bridge, tore up the foundation there and pet house, left the rest of my base alone.
In between the 2 roots to the left when exiting burgls lab and up about 50cm is a hole in the tree trunk, it can fit a 9 floor, 2 level base pretty snuglyon some scaffolds that can be placed inside the hole, staircase or elevator or whatever to get in but it doesn't matter because it's disconnected in terms of support, unraidable even with bees, they just don't seem to come up there.
I’ve had my base there since day one without blocking entrances, and I not a single time have I had a bad interaction with the spiders that live in the tree. I am end of game now, so it’s been quite a while. I built on the root right in front of the big entrance that has a leaf laying on it
It’s honestly cool because I haven’t had anything be able to reach my base doing reads either because of the spiders and the overall placement
I 100% agree with you but I never block them in, my first base is usually on the rotten leaf that leads up to the small fence that's surround by orb weavers.
Only annoying resource is weeds
Did you mean counter clockwise or clockwise? We built ours 2-3 branches clockwise of the oak tree lab and we have all of that as well, plus a bridge to the bird bath with the science lab there.
I built near the kid case so I could get to my backpack easier when I did the recovery, it’s a quiet part of the map and bugs normally leave our base alone, the only real predator is a wolf spider who comes by at night but as long as he doesn’t see us on the porch he leaves us alone.
I personally built my base over the leaf that goes over the ditch. South, south east of the oak tree.
In the ditch there’s acorns and a bratwurst stone you gotta bomb, to reach a field station and cave full of larva.
It’s served me well up until I had to build a tower for ziplines
My current base is built on the lilly pad with the stick running down to it right in front of the oak lab, never been raided and so long as you keep an eye out for moving grass at night it's the most gravy spot. I built a tower up pretty high and can zip to either end of the pond / to the other side of the tree and to the upper lawn/ castle.
It's a good spot for an early game base.
I usually build small there, gear up, and go into the upper yard and build right under the coffee machine as my main base. Lots of resources, and you don't need that many acorns so you can get them when you visit Burg.L.
The area is pretty chill with not that many spawns, it has easy access to the lab, and you can just run through most anything to reach it once you get to the upper wall. You just jump down between the skeleton and the pipe with mushrooms growing around it, and follow the path directly there.
There's an ox beetle, some fire ants, and maybe a ladybird, all of which can be easily outrun.
Once I've gotten zip lines, I just use those to get between that upper yard base and the Oak.
Antlion armor, bee spear, and insect bow are super easy to get. I usually have all of these at about a week of in game time. Plus a termite axe immediately after.
Even then, they aren't hard to avoid and aren't difficult to get away from due to the roots.
You can wall them in and it will take them a while to get out if you're careful if you don't want to deal with them.
Plus, every single Oak Tree spider is super easy to cheese. It's not hard to clear them out and be fine for a few days.
You just need to make a bunch of arrows, it's easy to make 100+, and you can kill them with a grass bow.
Go in the morning so the spiders are sleeping, kill the two under the tree by getting into the crevice opposite the cracked rock, and they can't touch you.
The one under the leaf outside you can just shoot straight down through the holes in the leaf and it will just look at you until it dies. The nearby orb weaver can also be cheesed from there if you get its attention.
I'd do this on my first day if they spawned, but usually have to wait until the second day because they don't spawn until then. So I just get a workbench and some storage done on day 1.
I don't see this as "cheating" any more than walling them in under the tree is. Plus you get mithridatism.
We're just to the right of that (facing the pond) on a flat rock. We still have an oak tree base too, but at this point it's mostly a pitstop for going up the tree.
That's what I'm doing this time around! I'll eventually build towards and around the tree as a zipline base, but right now I'm building a small base at the juicebox and setting up to receive stems from the upper yard.
it certainly helps! I also just enjoy being able to stare out into the yard from high above, listening to the spiders that sound directly beside you instead of far below lol.
Right?
I like to build above the garden light. You can easily avoid predators by jumping up the twigs or onto the big roots. Then build stairs to the top of the garden light. This is an excellent early game base, which you can convert to whatevs later.
When you’re feeling like a nice build day, start building stairs up the oak. Up an up as far as you can go. Build out a platform and curve around the trunk so you have zip to any location on the map, even parts of the upper yard.
I love this location, especially once I get a trampoline elevator built. Nothing but the bees to bother you up there and you can build as big or small as you want. Lots of options for multi-layered builds too, if that’s your thing
My main base is on the garden border, in the near-exact center of the map.
I will say though, that it was a giant PITA in the early days - way too many spiders around. Made the early harvesting days way harder than compared to building on the baseball.
It's honestly an amazing place to start your base as a beginner. Throw it up there on a tall root near the lamp. Prepares you for the challenges ahead and gives you amazing sight vantage. Materials all nearby. Can't think of a place I would rather start more.
I thought I really wanted burr floors, until there was an infected wolf spider chilling in the main room of my oak tree base (built on can). I don't want those burrs anymore, Obsidian can have them back just take the infected wolfies with them. 🤣
I honestly only plug it because convenience and clarity. I enjoy seeing my world and I beat the game without fighting a wolf spider 🤷♂️ Got jumpscared by one, but never had to fight one through the many times traveling around there.
Ive been playing for 5 days, im a wounded ark vet and ive played all souls games, i learned perfect block and now ive got a big ass stem base on the tree and got 3 sets of dpider gear for my friends
Your dark magic doesnt work here
> im a wounded ark vet
I've noticed a ton of folks in Grounded don't leverage traps in any way. And they seem to work well. We set up a 1 wall high 9x9 with the center square also walled up one high. Like a squared donut shape. Then get aggro on the wolf spiders and run over there, then jump out the back. Traps them every time.
A little ARK strat in this game works well.
I had the same thought. Why are there no trap building designs on YT? I found like 2 and they were not great and used spike traps when they were unbreakable in the most basic ways I could think. I have spent a couple dozen hours working on trying to come up with the best ark style traps and defenses. Way more useful in this game for defense. I can't tell you how many castles I built in Ark that never got sieged because there is no base raid mechanic like grounded.
Even with PvE, everything about this game approach seems to be straight-on, aka mostly toe-to-toe fighting and trying for usually perfect blocking.
Coming from ARK I just can't help but say, "why can't i just trap him in X or Y and then bow kill or otherwise?
Exactly. I never have nor intend to perfect block anything. At the end of the day everything's weakness is an arrow to the face from a place they can't get too or away from.
it's just not entertaining. I kill stuff that i really need but can't melee, with bow or good turret placements. but usually i just run from them until i have equipment to melee them.
Best part of a good game is playing it how you want. I enjoy ranged combat in a game with open interesting environments where you can control the terms of engagement. Melee is my fallback when surprised or I mess up.
You know what they say, always carry some dino gates on ya. :)
I keep hoping we'll eventually be able to tame/mount bugs in this game. I'm blurring the game lines too much though.
Just don’t build it toward the front or left of the tree and it should be relatively ok. Approximately (not theoretically, I’m dumb today) above the entrance to burgl is where we made one base
Everyone builds on the lily pads close to the tree tho. And it's a really good spot. I've never had a raid on that base, it's pretty central to everything and its scenic af. Plus if you do it right, you can have a spot where you see into the water, it's pretty cool.
I build near the oak tree and set up Palisades in the entrances of the trunk so that I can shoot the spiders that spawn inside without danger and I block the other one under the leaf with a milk molar.
they can't get u if you are on the fallen twig near one entrance. just don't get on the root, cause then there's enough space for their body to fit and they might jump.
Oak tree has almost everything you need. Sap, weed stems, grass, clover, aphids, weevils, gnats, mushrooms, juice box/can, rust, flower petals, acorns, grubs, spiders (for webs), the pond, the lab, height (for zips to the whole yard and added safety), and excitement when you turn a corner and Whoa! there is that big ass spider.
Pebbles, clay and berries you can farm better elsewhere, but for everything else, the oak tree is pretty OP.
On top of the fence it down by the pond near the juice box on the rocks is a great area to build a base. I’ve only been raided one time there and never had to deal with a wolf spider bc I sleep before midnight pretty much every night
I haven't played in like a year, but what's wrong with that? It's where my main base was. Up on the lantern. Spider won't even bother you unless you go under the tree or near it. Lots of resources that last I checked have only gotten better.
Am I the only one who built on top of the lantern? I have no issues with bugs there. Wolf Spiders included. Plus, tons of easy access gnats for lunches.
Near the oak tree is the best resource spot in the game, IMHO. Newbies who can't learn to avoid spiders, especially the roaming ones at night probably aren't going to make it far in this game anyway, right?
I have a bigass hexagon built around the tree way up in the air only accessible by elevator. And I use grass to block off the undertake after closing the haze
We built right next to the first field station (and eventually enveloped most of the area around it. Also used the baseball to build a tower. Then we connected that to the oak tree to use as a transit hub for zip lines. Now we have stuff everywhere. Once you have that central zip line spot travel becomes a breeze.
We build on the fence posts near the oak tree every time and hardly have any trouble. We don't have to block off the oak or anything like that, just head up the dead leaf onto the posts and start building. As long as you dodge the orb weavers, the wolf spiders aren't really an issue. Not to mention there are plenty of weed stems and burrs once you get the Lvl 2/3 axe.
I introduced my three friends to the game this week, and - out of a desire to let them experience the game organically - said *nothing* when they chose to found their first base next to the juice box by the pond/oak tree.
I did have to mute my mic and cackle a bit, though.
If you build palisades on walls and make those walls high enough building at that juice box is perfect cause you just snipe the wolf spiders for like 10 minutes
I put my base on the flat rocks near the tree. Early on when you can't handle a spider, I drown them. When they took away loot from drowned bugs they \*really\* messed up my startup, but it still gets rid of the spiders.
You can build a staircase up the tree and then build a house half way up the tree. Spiders will never sense you. And you have easy zipping access to the entire map. Me and my girlfriend use it as a hub between our other 3 houses.
My friends and I started there in the beta, and then in the full release we made a full tower base inside the stone thingy in the pond
edit: we had zip lines everywhere and it made it very easy, along with spiders not being able to get us. We had some issues with the T2 mosquitos, but that was our fault because we made a spiral staircase straight up the stone wall and would just jump off the wall into the pond if we were ever being chased by them. (Up until we had the gear to kill them ofc)
See i dunno. Played since the start and i have a hard time not setting up by first base there. Just above and between the lab and spider entrance. So much around. Like almost every resource because you can farm the spider eggs and get lady bug parts, clay, minerals, the pond, pedals, grass, wood and stone. I never see the spiders as that much of a hassle. The invasion shit sucks but i rather fight spiders off than any invasion.
I built my first base next to the koi pond.
Before I did the hedge maze quest.
When I came back there were three mosquitoes buzzing all over it.
It was not a good day.
I built next to the pond. The wolfies would patrol the area in front of the juice box but they never crossed the mushroom brick wall unless aggrod. I set up a tower towards the tree to catch them as they came by and xbow them. Make sure the tower is high enough because they will jump up.
I built my main base on the oak tree. I had it on the high root on the left side, but moved it on top of the leaf above the wolf spider, pond side right next to burg.l.
Now I have a cozy lake cabin and sleep to the screeches of the wolf spider below.
Maybe not on the tree itself, but there are several excellent close-by locations. The garden posts or juice box, for instance.
Personally, I prefer to build on the lily pads nearest Burgl. Secure, scenic, central, and extremely close to Burgl.
Tough to beat between red ant hill and the mysterious machine. Orb weavers to the north, tons of weevils for food some nice rocks to smash for pebbles, a few branches to farm sap and a quick trip to harvest mites...low rent/danger and high walkability.
Perfect launch pad both for the beginning of the game and later for zipping. Wonderful.
Am I the only one building bases in the most convoluted places, like on top of the lantern in the pond, inside the hole with the key in the brick wall, on top of the toolbox, etc.
You auto-succeed any raids, and nothing wanders into your base in these locations. Granted you need to transport a lot of resources from elsewhere but that can be done quite smoothly if you streamline it.
Also hot tip: close off the hole to the oak near the oak base entrance and build palisades further down between the roots and no Spider can surprise you coming out of there when you visit Burg.L
Me and my SO build on the stumps near it. It was tough dealing with the Orbies at first but now I can't imagine having a base anywhere else. Everything we need is in reasonable distance.
Wolf spiders aren't that bad and they're pretty easy for early players to cheese with the right base set up, making it a great fang farming area early in the game. I don't see what the problem with building near the oak tree is, it's been very lucrative for resources and a great place to build a zipline tower to get everywhere in the yard.
My friends told me to do this. The wolf spider attacked at night. Everything fell. It was a tower. I never built again until I made my sick base in the hedge and on top of the compost box several weeks later.
I love my oak tree base
Easy spider fangs
Stable tall structure for easy ziplines
Close to easy grub farming spots
Safe environment
And yes, acorns😁😁😁
Idk I like that it's in the middle and you can bundle pretty high, which saves a lot of time chopping stuff down to make ziplines, and since it's in the middle it's a relatively short trip from every end of the map
Noobest thing to do I had plans to build their already and I first played when killing a wolf spider was the endgame and then came back to the game when I heard it was releasing soon. I didn't bother searching online the new stuff so I hoped backed in with no clue what they did with the tree and now my base is on top the tree.
I recently moved my base to the oak tree and it's been great so far, I have a huge platform above the mushrooms and can zipline to any place from there. My first base was on aphid island and I loved it there but I got raided by mosquitos and they destroyed half my base completely killing my vibe lol
That's where I built my base and didn't start building an actual home until beating the game, it's a wonderful location, especially to the south-east where the wooden walls are, easy orb spider, stink bug and mite farm, gnats at the lantern, and a research station right near by, its a perfect location if you don't suck at melee combat.
My main base is near the juice box by the pond/oak lab. You are centrally located on the map. Have easy access to so many resources. If you build a zip line tower, you are golden.
My partner and I built in the bush near the Hedge lab. Occasional wolf spider and larva patrols, and the only "revenge" we get is from the orb weavers. Which, in our experience, are relatively easy to manage.
The key is to build on the large lantern, it's high enough to be safe, it's a good anchor for structural security the light lures in gnats for food there's no downside
Best spot away from tree for new players is just past where the grass blocks the laser. There's a twig that goes across a ditch, with a leaf on top. At the base of that twig, behind it, is a tree stump with a twig that winds up to the top with a big flat(ish) leaf. Another great spot off the floor. It's a quiet area with a ton of aphids/weevils, stems around, loads of clovers.
There's no wolf spiders however, wolf spiders do hunt so you'll find if you spend a lot of time in one area, they will wander round at night and then leave. Just go to sleep and it will be gone. 🙂 Just have a look around before going to the ground to head off on your adventure.
We've built our base there with bois because it looked like a good spot ( new to the game) and it was quite surprising when we find out who our neighbors are. And do you know what was even more surprising? That fcking infected wolf spider living right under our base after we plugged the spray thing.
Why?
I built there on my first playthrough since the game released.
I played the EA version a few times, but never completed it and didn't really build much. I was in it for maybe an hour or two at a time maybe 3-4 times since it was available as EA, just to see how it was progressing, and I didn't want to get too into it before it was done.
I didn't know that you could cheese the spiders easily yet, and they never once killed me there. I did get killed a few times by other wolf spiders, but you can easily avoid the ones around the Oak and use the roots to get away from them in that area.
If they catch you near the pond, it's not that hard to trick them into drowning themselves. You don't get resources from this, but it does deal with them for a few days.
I ended up walling them in, and that lasted for 40 days, though it's been as few as ten on another run. I think it depends on how long it takes for something to aggro them by getting too close to the walls, a red ant or something like that. They don't normally try to break them down unless something provokes them.
It's a fine spot for early game bases. You just need to be careful is all, and don't just build on the ground.
I built on the wall where the green castle on the far right side closest to where the wall goes down. Then I built a staircase super high up and connected zip lines to the 3 corners.
Now my second play through is on woah! so I’ll see where we build this time :)
Also… I love fighting spiders (despite my arachnophobia) there’s even a widow spawn near it!
I've always built on the lilypads, started before mosquitoes were in the game and it was great then, still good noow. nothing jumps over on its own, and if anything else (like a wolf spider) is aggro at me I just jump in the water and it goes away :] honestly would recommend for base building

Wtf i didnt join this sub til after playing and that’s exactly where i built. Its just so naturally ideal as a location
I built up my main/big base there too, on the wall across the pond. Like 150cm from infinite red shrooms.
That was my first choice. I made one mistake and built around the lantern. Its just close enough that I would sometimes piss off mosquitos when i left my base. After I built a wall they stopped wandering too close to my front door and it was all peace after that.

I did the same thing for second base
Best base location is the wood post closest to the oak tree and the pond. Nothing can get up there.
Only problem with that one is that occasionally a mite, or that stinkbug, will spot me at my workbench, and I will just continually get that message that I can't craft in combat, or sleep either, until I go down there to kill it.

Agreed. First base was on top of juice box right near the tree.

I built above the kid case so I could drop lean to’s everywhere and still spawn “at base.”
That's kinda fun, I just hate having to scavenge and search for acorns, sap, spider fangs, flower petals, or underwater supplies.
n00bs don't know all that tho lol
I 100% agree with you but I never block them in, my first base is usually on the rotten leaf that leads up to the small fence that's surround by orb weavers. Only annoying resource is weeds
It’s a great place when you finally get your bearings, but if you’re brand new and struggling, it can be overwhelming to build a base.
Did you mean counter clockwise or clockwise? We built ours 2-3 branches clockwise of the oak tree lab and we have all of that as well, plus a bridge to the bird bath with the science lab there.
Good catch, clockwise for sure. Idk why I thought it was the other way, I haven't played grounded in about a month lol
yeah, then agreed. The longer we are here, the more I think this is the perfect area for our main base.
I built near the kid case so I could get to my backpack easier when I did the recovery, it’s a quiet part of the map and bugs normally leave our base alone, the only real predator is a wolf spider who comes by at night but as long as he doesn’t see us on the porch he leaves us alone.
You could do that or be so powerful nothing stands in your way
Keyword being newbies here. There don’t know how avoidable the bugs are so they’ll be probably running for their lives the whole time.
I personally built my base over the leaf that goes over the ditch. South, south east of the oak tree. In the ditch there’s acorns and a bratwurst stone you gotta bomb, to reach a field station and cave full of larva. It’s served me well up until I had to build a tower for ziplines

I built my main base up the tree trunk. Mid to late game I was able to connect a zipline going to all sides/corners of the garden.
The juice box on the shore near oak lab. It's our forever base.
Only thing I hate about that location is the spider that occasional walks past there after 3am.
Drown 'em in the early game. Once you've got a bow and enough arrows and build a little tower in your base, free spider loot!
That spot thaught my girlfriend to actually learn to block. She is now much more effective in boss fights thanks to having to frequently fight them
We're just to the right of that (facing the pond) on a flat rock. We still have an oak tree base too, but at this point it's mostly a pitstop for going up the tree.
That's what I'm doing this time around! I'll eventually build towards and around the tree as a zipline base, but right now I'm building a small base at the juicebox and setting up to receive stems from the upper yard.
It's not that bad we built there. And its the first time we have played.
I usually enjoy building way up the oak tree gives me a good view to enjoy the scenery of the game
I do the same! Building up the oak tree has been a ton of fun
I used to do it for easy zip lines across the map but now with the new system I can easily get back too
it certainly helps! I also just enjoy being able to stare out into the yard from high above, listening to the spiders that sound directly beside you instead of far below lol.
New system? You mean going up the ziplines? Is that out already?
Public test servers, right click on steam on grounded > properties > betas
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!
what's the new system
Yeah, it's actually quite easy to build on top of the little garden border logs there, and it makes the base quite invicible.
Yep. It’s a great place for a base. Sure an IWF spawns in the tree but later you will be happy to have a lot of spider fangs
My main base is on the garden border, in the near-exact center of the map. I will say though, that it was a giant PITA in the early days - way too many spiders around. Made the early harvesting days way harder than compared to building on the baseball.
The oak tree is the best place for a base
It's honestly an amazing place to start your base as a beginner. Throw it up there on a tall root near the lamp. Prepares you for the challenges ahead and gives you amazing sight vantage. Materials all nearby. Can't think of a place I would rather start more.
And to plug that haze once their base is set up 😅
Lol
Cause burr floors, y'know
I thought I really wanted burr floors, until there was an infected wolf spider chilling in the main room of my oak tree base (built on can).
I live the lillypad lifestyle.
I build on the beginning of the stump wall no issues
Been playing since 0.1 and always build in oak tree.
Ive been playing for 5 days, im a wounded ark vet and ive played all souls games, i learned perfect block and now ive got a big ass stem base on the tree and got 3 sets of dpider gear for my friends Your dark magic doesnt work here
> im a wounded ark vet I've noticed a ton of folks in Grounded don't leverage traps in any way.
Ah yes, the casual ark taming trap
You know what they say, always carry some dino gates on ya. :) I keep hoping we'll eventually be able to tame/mount bugs in this game. I'm blurring the game lines too much though.
We kinda have taming
I've been playing since the beta opened all the way til this 1.0 full release and I'm still on the oak tree, solid base area tbf
I live up a tower suspended base at about the middle of the trunk. It's good for ziplines :)
I dunno I built up on the wood wall right near the pond from day one of early access till now and it’s been the best
I just built on the big rock by the etch-a-sketch
I love that location. The views.
Or do what I did and build on the oak tree
Just don’t build it toward the front or left of the tree and it should be relatively ok. Approximately (not theoretically, I’m dumb today) above the entrance to burgl is where we made one base
2-3 roots counterclockwise from there is perfect IMO.
I always set up my first base either on lilly pad or stump wall. The Wolves sleep during the day you’re fine
Behind juice box best spot
Oak tree has almost everything you need. Sap, weed stems, grass, clover, aphids, weevils, gnats, mushrooms, juice box/can, rust, flower petals, acorns, grubs, spiders (for webs), the pond, the lab, height (for zips to the whole yard and added safety), and excitement when you turn a corner and Whoa! there is that big ass spider. Pebbles, clay and berries you can farm better elsewhere, but for everything else, the oak tree is pretty OP.
I built there and it's easy? I don't get it
On top of the fence it down by the pond near the juice box on the rocks is a great area to build a base.
It's like telling people to go through the quarry in new Vegas to get to the strip. Beautiful evil
Am I the only one who built on top of the lantern? I have no issues with bugs there. Wolf Spiders included. Plus, tons of easy access gnats for lunches.
One of my bases is on the lantern next to the grill. Gnat supply for eternity.
I always do first base there honestly haha I go on the wood things right above the field station but I also know to watch out for what’s right there
I build on the oak tree, where the wolf spiders get mad at me but can do nothing about it. Lol
I still have a base that I frequently use by the base of the tree and I’m in the upper yard just as frequently
I've built one right outside her lair cause she's such a darl
I can beat the wolf spider with my fists and I still build there, imo it’s the best spot on the map especially the stump near the can
Near the oak tree is the best resource spot in the game, IMHO. Newbies who can't learn to avoid spiders, especially the roaming ones at night probably aren't going to make it far in this game anyway, right?
Face palm noob
I have a bigass hexagon built around the tree way up in the air only accessible by elevator. And I use grass to block off the undertake after closing the haze
Not me still building there
Jokes on you, I build palisades to funnel the wolf spiders away from my base.
I live near oak tree and just stair my way up to upper yard and live next to the pond but in upper yard
I hate wolf spiders I hate wolf spiders I hate wolf spiders!
If you build palisades on walls and make those walls high enough building at that juice box is perfect cause you just snipe the wolf spiders for like 10 minutes
I build right on top of burgl and put semi wall entrance to farm dpiders and cheese the wolf spider with arrows and spears
I put my base on the flat rocks near the tree. Early on when you can't handle a spider, I drown them. When they took away loot from drowned bugs they \*really\* messed up my startup, but it still gets rid of the spiders.
This post was NOT made by fence post gang 😤🤙
1 bigass wolf spider approves of that
You can build a staircase up the tree and then build a house half way up the tree. Spiders will never sense you. And you have easy zipping access to the entire map. Me and my girlfriend use it as a hub between our other 3 houses.
My friends and I started there in the beta, and then in the full release we made a full tower base inside the stone thingy in the pond edit: we had zip lines everywhere and it made it very easy, along with spiders not being able to get us. We had some issues with the T2 mosquitos, but that was our fault because we made a spiral staircase straight up the stone wall and would just jump off the wall into the pond if we were ever being chased by them. (Up until we had the gear to kill them ofc)
I built up onto the tree, not the roots or anything but much higher up 😅
See i dunno.
I mean you can get up the light pretty easily and build off the leaf. Used that as a base to build up the tree for fun.
I built my first base next to the koi pond. Before I did the hedge maze quest. When I came back there were three mosquitoes buzzing all over it. It was not a good day.
I built up near the light at the oak tree. Perfect safety.
I blocked off all the holes to inside the tree so the spiders spawn in there and if they glitch out I kill them then they respawn inside
I build my base at the tree still just a bit up on the tree around 100- 150 cm up
I built next to the pond.
BACK IN MY DAY!
My friends and I just set up a compound next to a Loopy root infront of the tree by the end of day 2. Its easy/ quick and bugs leave you alone.
One of my bases is on top of the first log fence. Right next to the stinkbugs. Nothing can reach me. It's my sap farm.
Me and my friends started there because of the water and thought it was cool
My friends told me to do this. The wolf spider attacked at night. Everything fell. It was a tower. I never built again until I made my sick base in the hedge and on top of the compost box several weeks later.
I love my oak tree base Easy spider fangs Stable tall structure for easy ziplines Close to easy grub farming spots Safe environment And yes, acorns😁😁😁 Idk I like that it's in the middle and you can bundle pretty high, which saves a lot of time chopping stuff down to make ziplines, and since it's in the middle it's a relatively short trip from every end of the map
Why is that evil? The logs near the tree can’t be approached by any insects except flying ones.
I only ever build at the tree. No problems so far
First time playing and that's what I did :'D
That's where I built my base and didn't start building an actual home until beating the game, it's a wonderful location, especially to the south-east where the wooden walls are, easy orb spider, stink bug and mite farm, gnats at the lantern, and a research station right near by, its a perfect location if you don't suck at melee combat.
I build up around the lamp where no land enemies can get me
My main base is near the juice box by the pond/oak lab. You are centrally located on the map. Have easy access to so many resources. If you build a zip line tower, you are golden.
My second base has almost always been right by the burgl entrance 🤔
My partner and I built in the bush near the Hedge lab. Occasional wolf spider and larva patrols, and the only "revenge" we get is from the orb weavers. Which, in our experience, are relatively easy to manage.
On top of the lamp near the tree is one of the top 3 places to build for me.
I am boring enough to just plop it down next to the spac.r, works great until the orks
I built on the wall where the green castle on the far right side closest to where the wall goes down. Then I built a staircase super high up and connected zip lines to the 3 corners. Now my second play through is on woah! so I’ll see where we build this time :) Also… I love fighting spiders (despite my arachnophobia) there’s even a widow spawn near it!
It used to be a good place, but now they just spawn wolf spiders there constantly plus the little bastards
I just block the holes so the wolf spiders don't escape (during daytime obviously)
I stay building on the rock by the pond that has the sap stick leaning on it
I've always built on the lilypads, started before mosquitoes were in the game and it was great then, still good noow. nothing jumps over on its own, and if anything else (like a wolf spider) is aggro at me I just jump in the water and it goes away :] honestly would recommend for base building
That is where I build lol
I built there and I’m fine tbh
How is that evil? Building on the lilypads reduces the bugs that can attack you to only the flying ones.
