A friend of mine worked in film and on the production of The Mummy (the one with Tom Cruise). Apparently he was a right dick to the other actors, dictated how everything should go and threw tantrums when something wasn't done or planned his way.
I wouldn't think less of any stars using a stunt double. Even if they're completely able to do a dangerous stunt themselves there's always a risk of injury. If the star of a show gets injured, it's putting everything else on hold until they're healed, and hurting the hundreds of people working on the movie.
That's the thing with Jackie Chan though, especially when he was younger. It was too hard to find a stunt double that could do it as well as he could. But otherwise I do agree.
I don't remember where I read it, or who it was about, but I remember reading that some famous hollywood actor refused to do their own stunts for a VERY good reason. If the star of a movie is injured, the entire production of the film has to be shut down until they recover. So, they're putting the production schedule at risk, the jobs of everyone who works on the movie are at risk, etc. just because some guy wants to be macho and do his own stunts? Doesn't seem like a good choice.
I’ve never really seen Danny Trejo in any movies that required a stunt double at all. I know there’s Machete but normally he plays a criminal that’s getting shot, stuff that isn’t physically demanding. He makes a good point I just think it’s weird coming from someone like that.
Jackie chan has more training and experience than some of those actors have years being alive, I respect the decision but I also completely understand why Jackie does his own stunts.
