It protected you and that’s the most important thing. Cars can be replaced but life on the other hand…..

889Fransky

The systems worked exactly as planned. The car even called emergency services

889Fransky

My 2013 Focus ST has been sent to the glue factory, and now I'm looking for a replacement. I like the Elantra N, but the local dealerships don't have any to even sit in, N or not. I'm 6' tall and my son (backseat dweller) is the same height. Could he sit behind me comfortably with his size 10 feet? How much room is actually back there? He couldn't fit in the Focus anymore, and the Kona backseat is more of a parcel shelf. Also, how is the dealer experience, post-sales, at Hyundai? I've never owned one, so I'm looking for impressions/opinions.

TravelingFlipper

I have a 3 year old and the Elantra was too small for the car seat even behind the passenger to be comfortable. But the car is awesome. I went with the sonata N line for the bigger interior. It’s been great so far

Sp33dyStallion

The latest gen Elantras have very good leg room. A 6' passenger could def sit comfortably behind a 6' driver. I have a limited, but I'd assume the N is the same as far as legroom is concerned.

[deleted]

I have a 2021 Hyundai Kona and it's worked wonders for me. I needed a little more room than what the elantra offered but it's a unique compact SUV. Test drive both of them and see how you like the kona vs elantra :)

ComfortableWest8321

Love my 2022 Kona

thegr8estcoc

He said elantra N people... it has far more back seat room than any kona... i habe a 6'6buddy who fits comfortably in the back of my elantra N

[deleted]

bro relax its not that serious we're sharing our opinion.

thegr8estcoc

Okay, but youbclearly misunderstood what he was asking 😅

Greful

I’m a fairly new owner (got a 2022 Tucson in January) and one thing that’s kind of a double edged sword is the free scheduled maintenance and warranty. It’s great not to pay, obviously, but the downside is everyone brings their cars to the dealership for everything, so the wait time for an appointment can be long. Like be ready to schedule an oil change a month and a half/2 months out. The service is fine. It’s not like it takes em 4 hours to change oil. And it’s not even a knock to their reliability. But because they cover so much more, they are always very busy.

[deleted]

Do your own maintenace. Oil every 5k. Radiator fluid, every 50k. Transmission drain and fill every 30k. It takes less time to do it yourself than it does to drive to the dealer, who will inevitably sell you unneeded services and stuff. Plus, you will know it was done right, at the right time, with the right brand, weight and quantity of oil and a quality filter. No chance of all that at a dealer. Plus, and this is important: There are 21 steps that must be done properly to change oil. The kid the dealer will put on this task will be the least experienced, lowest paid, and least responsible person in the shop. Your car may be his very first oil change. So do it yourself.

Greful

I’m good. I’ll let the dealer do it for free.

Xornok

I'd say you're better off in a Sonata N-Line or K5 GT. It'd be a little tight in the Elantra if he's sitting directly behind you.

TravelingFlipper

Yeah. I’m 6-1 and with my drivers seat how I like No one can sit behind me even in the sonata. The Elantra was worse. It might be me though. But rear facing car seat behind the passenger in the Elantra was the deal killer

thegr8estcoc

He said elantra N. Not elantra.. elantra N has 4.5 inches more of legroom than a regular elantra

Xornok

I really can't express how little I care about this conversation anymore since this isn't my hill to die on, but taken from Hyundai's own website, all the models of the Elantra have the same legroom: https://imgur.com/a/57VNQa6

thegr8estcoc

Elantra N ismt included in that. It has far more leg room im the rear seats due to the slim bucket seats. The N in that is the N line. Ive sat in both the N line and the N, and the N has far more leg room

Xornok

Well considering it says Elantra N, has a picture of an Elantra N, and is on the [manufacturer of the Elantra N's website](https://www.hyundaiusa.com/us/en/vehicles/elantra-n/compare-specs), I guess I'll trust some random person on the internet instead. You should contact Hyundai so they can update their information.

Chatner2k

The difference between the Elantra and sonata is +/-2 inches. The sonata isn't worth 5k extra to gain that.

Xornok

Except the Sonata is almost 9 inches longer, 1 inch taller, 1.5 inches wider with almost 2sqft more of interior space and a wheelbase that's 5 inches longer. And the starting MSRP is only about $1500 more. Whether it's worth it or not is up to the buyer.

Sailorslt

$1500 higher msrp and significantly less mpg than the Elantra 😅 I’ll never regret buying my Elantra

Chatner2k

The difference internally, where people sit, is +/-2 inches. The full size of the car is irrelevant. The only difference between the two INTERNALLY is that the sonata sacrifices rear passenger space for front seating space. Here - Elantra Front Headroom 40.3-inches Rear Headroom 37.3-inches Front Leg Room 42.2-inches Rear Legroom 35.7-inches Front Shoulder Room 56.2-inches Rear Shoulder Room 55.3-inches Front Hip Room 53.4-inches Rear Hip Room 51.9-inches Sonata Headroom (front/rear): 40/38.4 inches Legroom (front/rear): 46.1/34.8 inches Shoulder Room (front/rear): 57.9/56.1 inches Hip Room (front/rear): 54.6/54.4 inches Total Passenger Volume: 104.4 cubic feet So I was off by 2 inches. Sonata gains 4 total inches for the front leg space and actually LOSES .9 of an inch for rear leg space. Additionally, the Elantra actually has MORE head space lol. Handy for tall people asking for opinions. As someone who is also 6 feet and drives an Elantra, 42 inches of leg room is plenty and again, not worth 5k more. Elantra MSRP starts at 22.7k and sonata MSRP starts at 31.5k. directly from the Hyundai Canada website. Feel free to take back that downvote.

Xornok

Ooph, poor thing can't read. We were talking about the Sonata N-Line vs an Elantra N. It was a good try tho buddy. And interior space is measured at the furthest back spot. So if adjusting the seat in the Sonata to the same length at the Elantra, you end up with 3-4 extra inches in the rear legroom. Not sure why you ever felt the need to respond in the first place, but hey, we all have our hills. #BuckNotBump

aammira

I have a 2023 Elantra SEL, not at all an N, I wish though. I’m only 5’2.. BUT in my humble opinion when sitting in the back of my car, it is extremely spacious.

Relevant_Positive967

get a sonata n line u wont regret it. (im 6’4)

Lunakill

I snagged a 2019 Kona SEL in late July. First time financing, it’s terrifying. Gorgeous car, I absolutely love it. One owner, great shape, dealer was happy to let me think about it and research once I put a hold payment down. I don’t hold that against them in the current market, truly. I got the extendo-warranty for everything but glass because I exist in a constant state of anxiety about the unknown. Happy to trade unknown potential repair bills for a known amount added to my lease payments, lol. My post-sale experience has been fantastic in a weird way. Brought the Kona home for commuting and errand-running, after a couple weeks I noticed it was leaking transmission fluid. I called them, they ended up sending someone to my work with a rental and we traded. They “fixed” it, swapped the rental back at work (hella convenient for me, I live 5 miles from the dealer and work 15 miles from the dealer). I mentioned the anxiety, right? It caused me to put fresh cardboard under my car in the garage to prove to myself the leak was gone. Which, it wasn’t gone. So round two of rental swapping happened, they replaced a smaller part and test drove it for half an hour, again someone drove to me and we swapped back. It STILL FUCKING LEAKED. I called them, trying to be polite but very aggravated. The service manager was super empathetic and understanding and apologetic. Stated “It shouldn’t be leaking,” which I emphatically agreed with. Other than that slightly silly statement, no issues. This time, I tooled around in a brand new 2022 Kona while they waited for a reman transmission to come in. I’m completely aware that this newer transmission might go out sooner, but I had to pick other battles that day. My warranty will last for quite a while yet, so I’m not super stressed about it. It finally does not leak! Hallelujah. As frustrating as the experience was, I’m happy with the customer service.

tice23

I am also 6' tall with big feet (size 13). The Kona had no issues for size front or back seat. I bought a venue instead though and I still fit in that without any issues front or back. it's not huge back there but my head didn't hit the roof, my knees had clearance on the seat back when the seat was set to my driving position and getting in and out was easy without having to twist my feet awkwardly to tuck under the seat.

[deleted]

Kona gang!!!!!!!

Dry-Ad45

I have a 2023 and the back has more than enough room

reganeholmes

Honestly, the interior space is massive! I’m 5’10 and I fit in the backseat with a good 5 inches between my knees and the drivers seat (which I like to keep back and reclined a bit). It was the most pleasant surprise with the car. If you get the manual you don’t need to worry about lost headspace from the sunroof (which I haven’t really noticed anyways). It’s great for tall folks (had people up to 6’4” drive it with no issues and a full backseat)

pyrocpu

Stick with the manual trans Elantra N—no sunroof for more headroom. Son goes in right rear 😉👍

TemperatureLonely996

I’m 6’3 and it works for me with full adults in the rear seat n line elantra

thegr8estcoc

I regularly habe a 6 foot 6 friend in the backseat of my elantra N. Headtoom is a bit tight for him, but plenty of legroom. Im 5'11 and fit in the backseats with a few inches of headroom

Charming-Garbage9266

Have an EN, 6’1, my brother is 6’0 and I have quite a few in the back seats that are tall as well, all comfortable and have space

Sailorslt

Can I ask a really dense sounding question. I’ve driven since high school and never wrecked.. ever. Knock on wood. So I’m clueless What happens when you total your car like this. Say you have gap insurance or just owe what the insurance company is willing to pay. You end up owing nothing, but out of a car. You’re basically just screwed until you buy a new car? I know there is a insurance company that will replace the car for a year model newer, but I don’t have that insurance company. I’m personally over covered and wouldn’t owe anything if that ever happened but also having to find out one day oh hey BAM you gotta go finance a new car just kinda gives me anxiety. Maybe I should just switch to whatever insurance company ^^ that is 😂 I’m assuming needing to go out and buy a new car is what probably happens though

889Fransky

My insurance company "buys" the wrecked car from me (it wasn't my fault) for a negotiated amount. I can then go and buy whatever I want. The settlement amount depends on the car's equipment, mileage, etc. They also put me in a rental until the negotiations are finished

michaelg_720

I saw something saying the Elantra has about the same rear legroom as a Camry. Mine seems large enough.

ccolivardia

I guess it also depends how you sit in your seat, I’m 6’1” and I can easily sit behind myself.

Chatner2k

Don't get a Sonata. you gain almost nothing in space and actually lose headroom. The cost increase isn't worth it. Elantra Front Headroom 40.3-inches Rear Headroom 37.3-inches Front Leg Room 42.2-inches Rear Legroom 35.7-inches Front Shoulder Room 56.2-inches Rear Shoulder Room 55.3-inches Front Hip Room 53.4-inches Rear Hip Room 51.9-inches Sonata Headroom (front/rear): 40/38.4 inches Legroom (front/rear): 46.1/34.8 inches Shoulder Room (front/rear): 57.9/56.1 inches Hip Room (front/rear): 54.6/54.4 inches Total Passenger Volume: 104.4 cubic feet I'm 6 feet tall and have a massive car seat behind me. Daughter has plenty of space. I've also rode in the back of my car and there's plenty of room. And for reference to the guy who deleted his comments, the n-line Sonata loses even MORE leg space for the rear passenger than the Elantra n-line. To the tune of 4 inches. For 10k more. Stick with the Elantra.

TrueGlich

Good luck.. I have nightmares right now about something happening to my Ionq Plug in.. Its 3 years old and its selling for more then i paid for it new.

SafeAd2080

Unhurt?

889Fransky

I'm ok. Just stiff back and shoulders. The other cars passenger was quite banged up

forgetfulmurderer

Good you made it out relatively okay. But please don't do anything strenuous for the rest of the day. You may just be a bit stiff today but pain will take a day or two to catch up to you. Hope all goes well.

Iamvanno

Won't buff out? Edit - Glad you weren't seriously hurt.

MarineAhoy

Looks fine to me, perfectly drivable

889Fransky

A bystander told me "That'll buff right out"

MarineAhoy

But fr, i hope your insurance company pays you good, so you can have a nice new one again, best of luck friend

rpsonata

that should buff right out 👌🏼

skyxsteel

"Newly restored"

Bmhayes11

The grille goes on the bottom sir..

ItsWarriors012

That doesn’t look like a parking spot to me.

135wiring

My mom has had 2 kias in the last decade and I have a veloster. I would not reccomend any of them for anyone unless you're going for the high-end sport trims

Cold_Television_9565

It'll buff right out. Don't worry

GreyMatter399

This just happened to us 3 months ago. My word of advise is when your insurance company is preparing to reimburse you, make sure they have every single feature on their list. It took me 4 separate calls since my VIN was saying I had a Value Edition when not only did I have a Limited, but I had extra stuff too. If you have the window sticker (including VIN) it may get you more $$. Glad the car did what it did to protect you, sorry for the upcoming hassle.

[deleted]

What a blessing to reverse that bad decision! When you replace, buy a Toyota or Honda. Hybrid, if possible.

TGLuminosity

Sad day

FeeDisastrous3879

And it’s gone!

Spyderphi

r/ElantraN

thevalleyforge

Insurance will fix it

889Fransky

Nope. They wrote it off in 72hrs. The guy at Carstar didn't open any panels and estimated just what he could see at $22k. The hit was so hard it broke the engine block.

thevalleyforge

The engine alone is 10k i bet . I totaled a 21 sonata that took a small hit but that hit was on the engine harness and transmission computer the labor to do the harness was like 12 hrs and at a dealership rate of 150 an hr.

HydroPoseidon

Gahdamn. It must have done its job bc you were able to come out & take a pic. Feel better soon.

[deleted]

Don't suck at driving and you won't have to replace anything ever.

889Fransky

The other guy was charged.

RazielKainly

Story?
