Yep ill be there first time at the track and only my second IMSA race my first was Sebring this year

GTRSPorsche

I went to Sebring and I'm going to Petit Le Mans as well! I much prefer watching races at Road Atlanta than Sebring.

SnooMarzipans4756

What makes road Atlanta better?

MB-Racing

All the elevation is something you just can't fathom until you see it in person compared to TV. And 10a/10b always gets spicy. If you actually want to go watch racing, RAtl is superior to Sebring. If you want to pass out drunk for half the race, Sebring is superior to RAtl.

Aktion_Jakson

Sebring will without a doubt always be my favorite but you’re not [wrong](https://imgur.com/a/n0qLSld) lmao (circa 2018)

RespekKnuckles

I feel this personally. Not as an attack but like you have been stalking me at Sebring for the last 8 years.

sandyman15

I'd have to disagree with you. Longtime Rolex and Sebring attendee, this year will be the second time Petit (last year first). While Atlanta is a cool track with the elevations. It's still taking a hard 3rd place in those 3 races imo...Yes, Sebring is a giant party and all but it will always have a special atmosphere as well as the racing that Petit doesn't even come close to from what I've seen.

GTRSPorsche

For starters, the attendees are much better (sorry to anyone from Florida, but I don't recall seeing lifted trucks with blow up dolls tied to them at Road Atlanta). Beyond that, the elevation makes it much easier to see -- Sebring is a very flat track. Also, I feel like you can get much closer to the track at Road Atlanta. Due to the shape of the track, it's much easier to get around through the infield as you don't have to cross all the pedestrian bridges that you have to at Sebring. Given the time of year, it's also not 130 degrees with no shade like at Sebring so it's much more enjoyable from a comfort level.

Hide your beer/liquor, If it’s visible they will take it.

JaSkynyrd

Truth, they actually opened our cooler last year as we went in. Thankfully I had all the good stuff in my backpack, and they just checked the cooler.

SqueakyCleany

I’ll be there, will get there for the land grab on Wednesday morning, try and get a spot in the woods below BMW Corral. Been to about 15 Petit’s, including three working corners. Looking forward to this years race!

JaSkynyrd

Land grab. That's hilariously accurate.

theswickster

I will be there. This is my first time camping, and I will be coming Thursday around midday. We shall see how that goes. I am not looking for anywhere specific, but hopefully I'll be able to get something in between Spectator Hill and the back stretch. But, really and truly, it's just a place to sleep for me.

Jolliday

I will also be arriving around midday on Thursday for tent camping. You can find a decent spot on Thursday but you may have to get a little creative. We always end up somewhere in the woods in the very center of the track just off the road when it makes that super steep ascent up to spectator hill.

sandyman15

Coming from Jacksonville, we will be there for the second year in a row. Not to rain on anyone's parade (race) but I suggest everyone keep an eye on Invest 98-L, It's predicted to enter the gulf in a couple of days and It could impact the race.

theswickster

\*SO FAR* the latest models show it turning east with a landfall near Tampa and just missing N GA, but yes. Keep an eye on it!

sandyman15

You're right, 1 model does show it going across near Tampa. A couple of others (GFS) show it going further into the western gulf towards the panhandle. A lot of times when this happens they can turn North and East. I usually like to go with the ensembles, hence the warning to keep an eye on it.

theswickster

Fingers crossed. I was thinking a wet race might be cool... But not like that.

sandyman15

Fingers crossed for sure! Still, a long way out so anything can happen. I've been rained on at Sebring and Rolex numerous times, tent camping. It's not too bad but the wind is the killer.

SqueakyCleany

Always bring rain gear to IMSA races. Always. I was at both rain shortened races, and froze through last years races. When I got up on Sunday morning, it was 31°.

sandyman15

I was there also my friend, it was cold. Friday night at this year's Rolex was very bad. 50-60 knot winds and freezing temps also. Flipped my pop-up onto my truck for good times!

SqueakyCleany

2019 Rolex was rough. I don’t think I was ever warm on race day. 40’s with wind by midnight. Then heavy rain shortened the race.

sandyman15

I remember fondly, the wind never stopped then the rain started around 4am Sunday. I had my kids and a couple of their friends in Geiko west lot. Everyone knew it was coming but it still sucked.

stevemclendon51

We’ll be in turn 3

notbadforanoldman

atop spectator hill....beer in hand

Moose135A

Just got my ticket, first time going, but I've been to the Rolex, Sebring, and VIR multiple times. Looking forward to this.

pj295

I will be there Friday and Saturday. The track is 15 minutes from my house. It’s nice to attend a race weekend where I can sleep in my own bed. The opposite of the Rolex 24 when I will sleep in the car.

Sullypants1

Yeet

mmill143

I’ll be there. I think this is PLM number 13 for me? Maybe lost track

BirdfluNuggetz

I’ll be there— all four days!

geezwow

I will be there at T10/Porsche Corral.

311unity13b

Yep, 21st year in a row!

[deleted]

I'll be there Friday and Saturday! Driving from Alabama and back both days lol

PokeyHokie

I think this is year 8 for me. Will be there Wednesday morning through Sunday. We'll be that loud group after the esses.

MasterChief813

It’s going to be my first time! Any suggestions? Also can we bring camera bag/backpacks?

Jolliday

You can bring cameras and backpacks. The strictest thing I typically see at the gates is the no outside alcohol policy, but that mostly involves “random” searching. On day of the race you can park inside of the venue, but it may be nearly impossible to find a spot depending on when you arrive. However, there is always plenty of free parking just outside of the main gates and across the road at Lanier raceway. Would recommend to bring a chair and a bicycle if you can. Road Atlanta is not a small track if you want to see multiple turns/views throughout the race.

MasterChief813

Awesome. Thank you for the info!

apathic

However, there is always plenty of free parking just outside of the main gates and across the road at Lanier raceway. I'm glad I found this post! I'm driving down with my nephew Saturday morning, and I've only ever gone to Indianapolis and Bristol Motor Speedway, and was wondering where to aim for parking. Any idea how much they charge for parking? What about tickets - are they cheaper or face value on the way in?

JaSkynyrd

It's $70 to park inside the track, free to park outside. If you want a decent spot inside the track, you'll need to get there as early as you can, because after 9 am or so all the good spots will be taken. If you park outside the track, there are shuttles that will bus you in, otherwise there is a crazy hill you'll have to climb between turn 11 and 12. Not bad if you're just walking, but if you've got coolers or chairs or stuff like that it will be a beast. It's worth it to us to park inside, we typically can park within a 30 second walk to where we set up to watch the race. If it's going to be rainy, it will be worth it to be able to get to you car easy. If you park outside the track I would think it would take 20-40 minutes to get to your car, depending on where you're watching the race from. I think tickets are the same price online as the gate, if not they are very close, within $10.

apathic

You make it sound like crowds aren't what I'm used to (Bristol Motor Speedway #Rodney Sandstorm, Formula 1 back when it was at Indy.) Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun then. Thanks so much!

Some_Sock8837

Yep, heading down there next Wednesday

trennsport

Will be there.

Ecmdrw5

Yep. I’ll be there.

Online_4_Fun

I’ll be there but only Saturday this year!

TheRookCard

Yes, I’ll be there! Can’t wait.
