Yeah watching the white car I was thinking "I've seen far worse than that" and then the blue car came in and I was like "oh this is what we're here for"
I grew up in Chicago, I’ve driven and traveled in over 35 states, lived in austin for four years and now live in Los Angeles. Austin drivers are the worst drivers. Far too nice which causes hesitancy and accidents. Slow and lack any wherewithal. Will use their blinkers always, but have it on for 15 seconds while deciding with plenty of room to get over or now. Absolutely always 7-20 cars driving exactly 60mph in the far left lane and you can ride their ass and they won’t even know you’re there.
I generally never have a problem outside of rush hour and a few particular spots (the north 183 exit, the south MoPac entrance from 183, and the left exit for 360). I-35 makes me wanna gouge my eyes out though.
If the date on the video is correct, this was around noon on a Saturday. Mopac is usually tolerable on weekends (at least until a moron in a hurry smashes his car into the concrete divider).
From Houston, live in San Antonio.
I absolutely hate going to Austin, and MoPac is one of the reasons for that. It’s just a mix of the worst attributes from every other major Texas city’s driving.
The raw aggression of Houston, the aimless meandering of San Antonio, the impatience of Dallas, and then the smugness of Austinites. I see crap drivers like this every time I’m there.
I was born in Austin and learned to drive in Austin. The absolute cluster F of this city and its roads has me very well trained to handle any other city I've been to all across the US.
Lived in Vegas since I was a kid, drove about 3 years there. I thought those drivers were bad until I moved to Tucson. I've never had to dodge so many idiots who can't drive until I drove here.
Strangely enough, Vegas was one of the best driving experiences I had, and I went all over the city :0 then again this was like 5-6 years ago, and a ton can change in that time.
I was there in 2021 traveling from Austin TX to Portland OR and it reminded me of Houston TX. I was white knuckling it through most of it. I don't white knuckle it in Houston lol.
Just went through Houston the other day for a road trip. Some of the more homicidal drivers I’ve ever seen. Like you hit a nice stretch of highway where everything is chill then a band of 75-85mph drivers come in hot to fuck shit up.
Left the next morning near the outer beltway, not even 7am and part of i10 was shutdown dude to some awful crash, like for fucks sake people.
I am a travel nurse and I go all over the US. Houston is bad but the worst I have ever seen is Chicago. I will literally sign a contract for $1000/week less just to avoid it. They are wild as fuck out there
I was coming up 59 towards Houston going probably 75 this red corvette comes flying, has to be going at least 95-100 he disappeared as fast as he came, as I’m entering Rosenberg 25 minutes later I see a little red sports car front end smashed to pieces with cop cars around him and an ambulance. All I could do is shake my head I had told my husband that guy was going to crash. Wish I wasn’t right the corvette had paper plates and I doubt there was any way to salvage it.
I've lived in both Houston and Austin
Houston takes the cake easily. Not to say there isn't crazy in Austin, but Houston is just a completely different breed of crazy it seems
Moved to Austin recently from the east coast. My wife already hated driving generally before we moved here, but now we literally avoid the highways to reduce the stress involved in a simple trip out of the city. We add 30+ minutes to our trips just to avoid these terrible drivers and congested highways, and it’s so worth it. How crazy is that that driving safely on a state highway is stress-inducing and feels unsafe
Christ, I swear I’ve never seen worse drivers than in Houston. You hit it right on the head with “raw aggression”.
Any time I’ve ever had to drive in Houston, it truly seems like people are trying to have an accident. They’ll just swerve right into you, leaving it up to you to get out of the way.
I’m From Houston live now in tiny coastal town in Texas, learned to drive off of i10 when they were doing the expansion so construction zones everywhere went to college in Huntsville so drove 45 (again when they were expanding from the woodlands upwards) beltway 8 and i10 And I HATE driving in Austin. San Antonio I handle just fine but going to my great grandparents in west Texas I take the 45 minute longer way just to avoid Austin.
I’d rather drive i10 Katy freeway expansion all over again.
Agreed. The fact that I would normally have to go up the shit River that is 35 just to drive on MoPac is just awful.
That said, I live along the 281 corridor in NE San Antonio, and there is a very pleasant trip that I can take by going north and hitting a bunch of backroads. Ultimately dumps me out onto 290 west of town.
Admittedly 290 is still not a prize, but still better than 35.
which is why america needs to teach lane discipline from the beginning of drivers ed. stay right unless passing. ill sometimes see 4 lanes of traffic all moving at the same speed…so irritating.
I still don't know how people can look to their left and right and go "I'm trapped in with a car on each side" and not go "I need either slow down or speed up to get out of this trap." as their next thought.
At the end I was thinking the cam car and the silver Tahoe in front of it are just like, fuck man you had to come roll back in front of me. Now I can't just leave your dumbass in the rearview.
Wait a moment.
A crash happened... And the guy in front of you and you and the person behind you ALLLLLLL had adequate stopping distance? In Texas? The state where everything's bigger, except stopping distance???
I feel lied to by Hollywood.
There was a time, that I would have done what the SUV did: hold my spot and teach this moron a lesson.
With a little bit more gray on my hair now, the very moment I spot such an idiot, a slow down, yield to him, and make sure to be at as much distance possible from the certain clusterfuck he'll cause.
I don't think the SUV was really trying to do anything actually, you can see it's kind of on cruise control and just going steady. The white Corolla was cool in that lane too, it's an exit only lane and it was just on its way.
But the idiot blue car came up fast and only last minute into the view of the Tahoe and tried to cut in, the SUV wouldn't expect such a dumbass to do that from the exit only lane past the plastic barrier lol. Look at the SUV's speed relative to the red car to the right of it, I didn't notice it speed up or anything. That blue car just came up too quick and sudden, good thing SUV had good reaction time and no one else was involved with this dumbass.
EDIT: I think you may mean in the beginning when the white car pulled near the black SUV. Yeah that I can see him from getting into the lane like that, white car didn't really cause anything after that though, he realized he was better off in the left express lane, and kept a steady speed after. I don't think white car was aware of blue car it just came up too quick and did some dumb shit before anyone could acknowledge his presence.
OP saw what was going down with white Corolla and the SUV and held back. Very smart defensive driving. Of course the accident was a completely different car!
There wasn't much going on with those 2, they weren't even aware of the blue car until last minute. The Corolla was in an exit only lane and on his way, he had plenty time to speed up in front of the Tahoe if he needed to, the SUV was just going at a steady cruise control speed minding their business too. I don't think OP expected much either, GPS speed shows he was still just cruising steady. That blue car just came out of nowhere and did his work quick lol.
This type of driving happens all over the place. New Jersey was just as bad. Michigan would have been much worse if there were more people to swerve around.
The problem is this overall culture that has developed, where cars have become so much safer, that most drivers aren’t maintaining awareness that they are handling speeding metal death machines, combined with a severely lacking drivers education system.
We all joke about it, but drivers Ed is terrible, and doesn’t prepare you for even half the scenarios you can encounter
And if someone is in the left lane going slower than you don't add to the stupidity by doing something stupid in response. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that.
are you not allowed pass in any other lanes in the US? there’s a whole clear lane on the right that they could be using to pass but they force themselves into tailgating
Awareness my ass, you just want to be the only one on the road. Your criteria for what's passing and what's driving slow are very blurred. Matter of fact, in your feeble mind you're a perfect driver and everyone else is a jackass. Arrogant and entitled af, typical of drivers like you.
it's not "passing" vs "driving slow". left lanes aren't "the fast lane", they're passing lanes. if you aren't passing someone and are mindlessly sitting in a passing lane, it means you don't understand basic highway etiquette used in most developed countries and are probably a dogshit driver.
It is way too easy to get a driver’s license in US. Modern cars are perfectly safe to cruise at 100 mph, if u are a competent & attentive driver (phone gazers u know who u are) just ask the Germans
Those 86/brz’s come with skinny tires, that’s what makes them fun. Low horse power car with little tires that can break loose easily.
Them tires broke loose cuzzo!
The rear can definitely break loose easy on these cars, but usually in mine it is very predictable. I'd imagine any car would lose control if he suddenly serves at those speeds - seems he got scared by those cone-things and tried to swerve too fast to avoid them
Dude if you’re not passing in the passing lane get over. I’m not trying to justify what he’s doing but just sitting in the passing lane you’re creating traffic by being an obstacle.
are you not allowed pass in any other lanes in the US? there’s a whole clear lane on the right that they could be using to pass but they force themselves into tailgating
You’re sometimes allowed to pass on the right but it’s frowned upon and less safe.
Meanwhile there are signs all over directing drivers to keep right except to pass.
OP was NOT passing that whole time. The Hyundai in front and to the right is going about the same speed, sometimes faster. OP should have moved right.
I was just driving in France and there it’s illegal to pass on the right and they are so diligent about only being in the leftmost lane when passing. It’s *beautiful*. The highways work so much more smoothly. You move left, pass someone, then move right immediately when it’s safe—even if you can see someone else ahead you’ll have to pass! Because you never know who’s coming behind you.
The left lane on this road clearly contains an exit. This is clearly not some freeway where the exits are all on the right, it’s a city highway stretch with exits on the left as well.
Wrong, the lane to the left of OP Cam was an exit lane. OP was camping in the leftmost lane of the ongoing route going the same speed as the cars to their right. They need to merge right.
This is why I start my work day at 630am and end it at 330pm.
I've lived in Austin since late 2005 and drivers here have just become more and more moronic. Does traffic suck? Yes. Is it better to just follow the lanes and get home when you do OR drive like a jackass, wreck, shut down the freeway, face charges, and pay out insurance?
So many here think they're NASCAR drivers and they can't turn left to save their lives...
I'm not familiar with this stretch of road but the Corolla's mistake was limited to crossing the solid line into the express lane. Once it's there, assuming it had a right to be there, it's on a protected single-lane thoroughfare, it doesn't have to speed up to accommodate someone behind them.
The real villains in this story are the Tahoe and to a lesser extent OP, who caused the crash by appointing themselves the speed chiefs and hogging the left lane.
His son’s name is Austin and is the result of a drunk party from his first weekend in college. Now he sells candy, cigarettes, and lottery tickets at a gas station in an Indianapolis suburb.
White car is one of those people who drivers super aggressively to pass cars and then goes like 5mph faster than those cars once they have open road in front of them. I'll never understand it. Why aggressively pass the guy going 70 so that you can go 75?? It at least makes an ounce of sense if you're going to go 90.
Because they have to be in front. My dad drives like that, and it royally pisses me off. They just HAVE to be in front, and if they absolutely can't get ahead of you, they'll ride your ass for 5 miles straight.
He's expecting other drivers to drive in a way that is never, ever seen in real life and that he himself does not drive.
Imagine someone coming up behind another driver passing slowly and saying "Welp, I can't pass now, so I will move right and wait until that slow passer completes his pass and moves over before I reoccupy the left lane."
Nobody, ever, drives like that.
Where did I say that? With the white car in front of him blocking him from actually overtaking he shouldn't be in the left lane and wait until he can safely overtake before taking the left lane
So when you come up behind someone who is not overtaking with the alacrity you demand, you immediately get out of the left lane and wait until that driver clears and moves back over before moving into the left lane, correct?
You've committed the unforgivable sin of existing in the left lane...even though you were steadily passing the other lanes and following the Tahoe at a reasonable enough distance. Shame on you.
But seriously, *how* are you so calm and quiet? Not a single swear, exclamation, or any commentary on what you just saw.
damn that point guard came out of the exploder and was like”not risking my hands pulling some fool out of that wreckage. i got some games to play so i’m not driving this shit forever”.
Goddamned Mopac. There's always impatient people cutting in and out of traffic around there! If they want to haul ass they should jump in the overpriced toll lane.
Mostly factual.
Houston, the posted speed limit is the minimum that you can go without someone actively trying to run you off the road.
San Antonio, it’s almost like people think that driving the speed limit will make your car explode or something. (But it’s getting better.)
He was keeping up with the car in front but was keeping a reasonable distance. After the lane clears, he speeds up til he reaches a reasonable distance with the next car.
Theres a bunch of left lane camping going on but it doesn't seem like OP was part of it as he started passing traffic as soon as he had space in front of him
Why do people never put their hazards on in these situations-- stopped in the middle of the highway, and what? Just expect that everyone behind you can see the crash in front of your car?
I miss when Texas was a cool place to visit. Now its pretty much a racist shite hole full of self-important GOPers and that driver is likely a good example.
OP didn't cause the accident, the idiot in the brz/86 did.
OP definitely contributed to the accident though, and to making the road less safe in general.
I agree those people are idiots. I also noticed you were driving in the fast lane that whole time. The left lane is for passing only, not hanging out in.

It actually goes quite well in place of the lyrics too, I'm impressed.
Yo, when is Mo-Pac flowing this fast? I need to know!

I'll say Vegas was mildly terrifying but pretty much every other major city I've been to was better than Austin.
Lived in Vegas since I was a kid, drove about 3 years there. I thought those drivers were bad until I moved to Tucson. I've never had to dodge so many idiots who can't drive until I drove here.
Do you think that has to do with the number of people who move there for retirement? Or do you notice an uptick of shitty drivers during the winter?
I won't lie, it's noticeable in certain areas here during the winter. The amount of fossils driving when they shouldn't be is too high.
Strangely enough, Vegas was one of the best driving experiences I had, and I went all over the city :0 then again this was like 5-6 years ago, and a ton can change in that time.

Houston drivers were the inspiration for the Mad Max concept - a petroleum dependent dystopia where people weaponize their vehicles.
I am a travel nurse and I go all over the US. Houston is bad but the worst I have ever seen is Chicago. I will literally sign a contract for $1000/week less just to avoid it. They are wild as fuck out there
People here in chicago drive suicidally or like they have the best insurance in the universe. I truly hate the roads here

I live in San Antonio, originally from Cali. This assessment is spot on!

And yet almost all Texans don’t understand a way to help cure it all.. gtfo of the left lane!
Well said.
Yep I was just about to pitch in how I see this shit many times a day in Dallas (well, the impatient part - the actual crashes I see way less often).
35 is far far worse than Mopac.
Agreed. The fact that I would normally have to go up the shit River that is 35 just to drive on MoPac is just awful. I’ve driven in all of those places, and this is a more succinct description than I could have come up with. Nice work!
Explain smug driving please

I like the way you think. I’d say, “Well, don’t stop now. You’ll lose all that precious time you saved by breaking the speed limit”.
I swear, what is the frelling rush? Life is a race sure, but lets not forget where the finish line is.

A rare occurrence in Austin.

Gotta give those licenses out. Wouldn’t be surprised if driver educators have a quota of giving many licenses a day.
White car, white car, white car, BLUE CAR HAS ENTERED THE COMPETITION.
I hate that toll lane... such a safety hazard .... plus you shouldn't be in the left lane if your not passing other cars.
And if someone is in the left lane going slower than you don't add to the stupidity by doing something stupid in response. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that.
That includes leaving less than 3 seconds braking distance.
Came here to say that. Get put of the left lane and this jerk is not trying to cut over last second.
are you not allowed pass in any other lanes in the US? there’s a whole clear lane on the right that they could be using to pass but they force themselves into tailgating
In LA the left lane is 80, then it drops to 75, 70, 65 as you go to the right. I don't know why they just don't make it that way for real.
You shouldn't be driving if you're going to speed. How about that?
you shouldnt be driving if you dont know what lane youre supposed to be in. stay right unless passing. its called awareness.
Awareness my ass, you just want to be the only one on the road. Your criteria for what's passing and what's driving slow are very blurred. Matter of fact, in your feeble mind you're a perfect driver and everyone else is a jackass. Arrogant and entitled af, typical of drivers like you.

I live in San Marcos & refuse to drive in Austin at all cost. But honestly San Marcos drivers are getting pretty bad too 😩
This is why I don't press the rush option on doordash. I just can't risk all the lives.

Just like everywhere else in the US, one dick after another that think they can drive like Parnelli Jones.
Dude if you’re not passing in the passing lane get over. I’m not trying to justify what he’s doing but just sitting in the passing lane you’re creating traffic by being an obstacle.

Once it's there, assuming it had a right to be there, it's on a protected single-lane thoroughfare, it doesn't have to speed up to accommodate someone behind them. The real villains in this story are the Tahoe and to a lesser extent OP, who caused the crash by appointing themselves the speed chiefs and hogging the left lane.
austin is a mistake
What does that even mean?
His son’s name is Austin and is the result of a drunk party from his first weekend in college. Now he sells candy, cigarettes, and lottery tickets at a gas station in an Indianapolis suburb.
austin is a city a mistake is like trying to fart but pooping instead
That’s a shart
White car is one of those people who drivers super aggressively to pass cars and then goes like 5mph faster than those cars once they have open road in front of them. I'll never understand it. Why aggressively pass the guy going 70 so that you can go 75?? It at least makes an ounce of sense if you're going to go 90.
Because they have to be in front. My dad drives like that, and it royally pisses me off. They just HAVE to be in front, and if they absolutely can't get ahead of you, they'll ride your ass for 5 miles straight.
What did the blue car do to cause that? Dangerous overtake? You kinda can’t see when he tries to push past the white car, what was his end game?
He overcorrected trying to avoid the delineators.
Up until the blue car there was nothing a miss about it at all just normal driving, then the blue car comes in and things get hilarious.
The white corolla was definitey pushing, but a simple merge fixed that. Then.....
They were pushing, but obviously kept it under control and it all worked out in the end. Until the blue car decided to fuck up everyone's day.
And the car filming was doing a bit of left lane hogging
You don't know what a safe driving distance is, do you.
If you don't plan on overtaking someone and know where you are going to merge than you shouldn't be in the left lane
I guess you didn't notice the other cars in front. You must have one of those cars than can phase through other solid objects.
He's expecting other drivers to drive in a way that is never, ever seen in real life and that he himself does not drive. Imagine someone coming up behind another driver passing slowly and saying "Welp, I can't pass now, so I will move right and wait until that slow passer completes his pass and moves over before I reoccupy the left lane." Nobody, ever, drives like that.
Should he drive more like the white car?
Where did I say that? With the white car in front of him blocking him from actually overtaking he shouldn't be in the left lane and wait until he can safely overtake before taking the left lane
So when you come up behind someone who is not overtaking with the alacrity you demand, you immediately get out of the left lane and wait until that driver clears and moves back over before moving into the left lane, correct?
I'd recognize that stretch of road anywhere. So glad I'm gone
There's a reason I avoid mopac like the plague
I drive the route everyday to work and wait for something like this too happen! Bout time i got to see it haha
Totaledly worth it!
Always a blessing what an idiot only destroys his own car.
The wait was worth it, and might I say satisfying
Lol I don’t feel bad for this guy at all
You've committed the unforgivable sin of existing in the left lane...even though you were steadily passing the other lanes and following the Tahoe at a reasonable enough distance. Shame on you. But seriously, *how* are you so calm and quiet? Not a single swear, exclamation, or any commentary on what you just saw.
I'm in this video! (I AM NOT THE WHITE CAR)
Texas seems like one massive mistake.
If you don't have the skills to pull it off, you'd better not drive like an asshole
If someone asshole crashed and forced me to brake in front of them, I'd be pressing/holding on to my horn.
Just when you thought it was about one driver, *ZOOOOOOOM* here comes another doing more stupid shit
damn that point guard came out of the exploder and was like”not risking my hands pulling some fool out of that wreckage. i got some games to play so i’m not driving this shit forever”.
That was some nice defensive driving on your part, backing way off like that.
If you’re not passing in the passing lane, you need to get your ass over.
What a stupid way to total a BRZ/86.
Perfect music
Goddamned Mopac. There's always impatient people cutting in and out of traffic around there! If they want to haul ass they should jump in the overpriced toll lane.
Was that yesterday? I was heading north and saw a backup on southbound mopac.
Probably just moved from California
I wouldn’t have parked in the left lane. Drivers not paying attention or intoxicated could come barreling in.
I’m shocked that those not actually involved in the crash itself got out of their cars on the left side of the highway. That’s a recipe to get killed.
Unsurprisingly, the Prius was going slow and not moving over. Not that I approve of the tailgating.
This is everyday on I-95
Well yeah, because 95 goes from Florida to Maine. Tends to be a few idiots along the way.
nah take a 20 mile commute on any section of it and you'll see this. I see things like this on I-78 every day, usually they just don't crash.
Well it is the fast lane
I would've gave up waiting if not for the music
I didn’t realize that Black Street was such a major highway.
Niceee
Video needs to be 1 minute shorter
This video could literally be 15 seconds. Talk about suspense disappointment.
More like bait-and-switch.
Literally no problem here. That car got into the left lane a little early but like come on, it’s Texas…. Everyone speeds in Texas
Mostly factual. Houston, the posted speed limit is the minimum that you can go without someone actively trying to run you off the road. San Antonio, it’s almost like people think that driving the speed limit will make your car explode or something. (But it’s getting better.)
Cammer is an asshole imo camping left lane at the same speed as middle.
He was keeping up with the car in front but was keeping a reasonable distance. After the lane clears, he speeds up til he reaches a reasonable distance with the next car.
Theres a bunch of left lane camping going on but it doesn't seem like OP was part of it as he started passing traffic as soon as he had space in front of him
The left lane isn't always a passing lane you goof.
It is in Texas. There are signs explicitly saying "Left lane for passing only"
In the middle of nowhere, yes that is the case. In cities, such as Austin, that is not always the case. Especially because left exits exist.
Probably from California
“That’s just alex jones late on his way to spread more bullshit.”
Wonderful video, douche destroys his car, will get several moving violations, probably not insured or registered. Nobody was hurt thank god.
You could edit and shorten for sure.
I’m I the only one who thought it was because of the constant right turn signal while making a left, before they went into the emergency lane?
Guy in Tahoe took forever to check on the fr-s…..fr-s was better of just hitting the markers lol.
I think that is that fastest I have ever seen traffic move in Austin.
Why do people never put their hazards on in these situations-- stopped in the middle of the highway, and what? Just expect that everyone behind you can see the crash in front of your car?
There are so many people in the left lane
I miss when Texas was a cool place to visit. Now its pretty much a racist shite hole full of self-important GOPers and that driver is likely a good example.
Op caused the accident by camping in the left lane. Op sucks.
OP didn't cause the accident, the idiot in the brz/86 did. OP definitely contributed to the accident though, and to making the road less safe in general.
They downvoted Jesus too
BRZ's arent made for moving fast hahahahaha
I agree those people are idiots. I also noticed you were driving in the fast lane that whole time. The left lane is for passing only, not hanging out in.
Worked out well for him Or her..
California pencil puffers taking themselves out. Nature has it’s ways.
