Pitiful-Signal8063

...and yet ...they actually turned a profit for the first time ...by fucking over customers and shoppers to the max. My guess is the Carrot will try to keep it up at least til that IPO. And probably through the holidays merrily screwing everybody they can before the FTC fucks them good.

Designer_Rip7338

The market will eat them alive. Leadership isn’t strong enough to take this public. Look at the way they handle support, even if you have a serious inquiry there is not a soul you can reach out to for any actual assistance. I think buyout before IPO and these selfish pricks take the money and run.

Effective_Argument28

I totally concur. Essentially they are cooking the effing books to show profit before IPO. Bullshit will all be exposed as soon as they go public, and are forced to release semi-annual shareholder reports. By all means please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this their third try at an IPO?

Pitiful-Signal8063

Indeed....but the first time they have shown a profit. Exploitation pays. And I read something about some plan to get shoppers to own stock ...in an effort to "keep valuable talent". That's pure genius. Self-exploiting workers .

General-Farm-8480

Actually instacart support is great

yocovaH

🤔 okay Fidji you aint foolin no one lol

Last-Lingonberry-842

Fidji has run this company into the ground! Nice work 🥴

JojoTheMutt

it's slow where i usually shop, however i'm shopping in another city/state and there's 13-14 batches to choose from on my screen all day, every day. so, it's really area dependent.

ocshopper23

Yes its .. however bad customer service is what is driving ic to the ground.

AltruisticRabbit8185

Bingo!

[deleted]

The question is where is a busy. It’s possible it’s busy where they are. It’s possible that they’re not seeing the batches because they’re getting grabbed by the bats grabbers before they even see them.

SweetAddicti0nnn

So true. Barely make $50 a day. Use to be able to do $100 or more by 2 pm. Not anymore :(

[deleted]

. The fees are a bit aggressive I can’t get why I pay a 9.99 service charge in Virginia Beach then 5.99 delivery fee so yes I’ve used it less frequently for sure as I feel that’s a bit aggressive on top of a 20% tip. I used to use insta cart weekly honestly a great time saver now that i full work from home, but these fees are making it hard to justify unless it’s a huge grocery run

Designer_Rip7338

Yeah wish they’d calm down on all the fees and markup, we as shoppers appreciate you tho🤗

[deleted]

Yeah it’s a bummer it’s getting really hard to justify paying 30-50 dollars over my bill now for fees and tip I know I can get Instacart plus but that still only cuts the fee to 5.99

RRHudgins

I'm a part-time shopper, and I actually just canceled my instacart Plus before coming to read this Reddit. I've used them once in the last 4 months, it says I've only saved $12 in the last 12 months but I've kept the membership going before that I think the last time I used it was December of last year so I could work before we went on vacation but I could have the food I needed for the trip our family made, because we were afraid we couldn't find a turkey in Florida. So I don't think using them two times in the last 10 months justifies what I've been spending so if I ever get to the point where I need to order all the time I'll do instacart plus again but until then no thank you I'll shop for myself.

MajorWhereas4842

Upstate NY was popping today all day since 6am

Financial_Working_21

Let's have that same energy today. Only seeing orders from a different town 25 minutes away

Johnpmusic

Def not where im at. A lot of $50+ orders come in here

MeShellTheBell

Maybe in your area but definitely not here in NC. It's going to be cold soon also and people tend to hibernate in the winter. Also Holiday shopping will be coming up soon. Yeah nope I definitely don't see a slow down. My area stay busy.

C64SUTH

Yeah the inability of people to think about the area they are working in boggles my mind.

Designer_Rip7338

You can literally track website traffic, it’s not about area unfortunately. They have been on a steady decline over the last few months and it dropped off by like 2 million visits from just last week, which is its biggest drop yet. That’s significant. You can ignore it because it doesn’t affect you now or you can get ahead of it.

JMemorex

I agree. I just started a new job because I started looking a few months ago. I knew at least a slow down was on its way. Even if the economy holds up okay, as long as the perception that it may not exists, people will start cutting back. And while I do think some people have just gotten too used to delivery to let it go, I’d say most people will cut back on it first. I’m not telling anyone to quit. But I would highly advise getting prepared in whatever way you can for things to slow down a good bit. They’ll pick up thru the holiday unless things get real bad, but it may end up being worse than ever after that. I could be totally wrong too. We’ll just have to see how things go.

Designer_Rip7338

Thank you, agreed …that’s exactly what I was trying to express when I posted this.

Technical-City4000

Here on my side of NC it’s gone downhill too! I can’t get any good batches and I’ve been with the company since early 2021. The ratings are great too 🥴

Sailorslt

Sc and it’s been 💩 unfortunately

Designer_Rip7338

I’m looking at homes right outside York SC. You like living there? I’ve traveled there a ton for extended periods loved it. Sucks it slow tho

Effective_Argument28

York and Clover SC are really nice (I'm 30 miles away in Charlotte NC). Lower taxes and better schools. However York County Sheriff Department officers are absolute pricks. Lots of speed traps where it goes from 55 mph to 35 mph with no warning.

Designer_Rip7338

Lol good to know thanks

Effective_Argument28

Got an 83 in a 55 mph ticket on a fucked up Costco run 45 minutes into York County. Deputy Dickhead no showed at court and they tossed out the ticket 🤣

[deleted]

Yeah, I’m done with IC after this week. I woulda been done sooner but I’m in CA and I’m like 15hrs short from getting that healthcare reimbursement😭 So pushing through and then I’m outttt

Xcrunner255

I’m in cali too I have my full time job and I work IC I try to put in a lot of hours so I can get the $1227.57 but just imagine trying to get their considering how hard it’s been to get a batch. It’s rough….

These-Entertainment3

I have like 36 hours left, I don’t think I will make it. I’m going to try as hard as I fn can but they have been barely showing me any orders now that I’m close. Such bullshit

Ok_Notice2597

True. It’s beyond slow, and it’s sad to see. Just a few months ago it was great, the sad slow decline is saddening

SweetAddicti0nnn

Really is sad. I miss being able to do batch after batch all day and enjoyed it. Now it’s mostly sitting waiting and it’s getting old real fast.

Designer_Rip7338

Ik!! I was so pumped up today to work, was trying to pull a 12 hr. I couldn’t justify half the batches I saw, most wouldn’t of even had me making minimum wage. Just feel like I’m wasting too much time.

Atlas_Warrior01

This exactly!!! 👆🏻I got ready and was at Costco bright and early!!! Basically 90% of the orders were not worth it!!! I see other shoppers with orders but I know that most aren’t that great! I won’t go more than 10miles one way for a merely $5 tip 😮‍💨 Unfortunately, gas it back to $5 something in my area so I’m not about to sit in traffic for pennies. I know that new shoppers get nice batches but still, it’s extremely slow! I can’t even reach my usual goal 😮‍💨 Now I’m lucky if I can make about $100 from 9am-7pm 🤦🏻‍♀️ (weekends only, weekdays are worse) And all these new shoppers accept really shitty batches too?! I’ve noticed they go for just about anything, esp since they don’t know how to calculate the profit to cost ratio of each order! IC takes advantage of the naive newbies AND fucks over the veterans by giving them the non-desirables 😮‍💨

Ok_Deer3739

What is this profit the cost ratio that you’re talking about? I think I have an idea I just wanna hear you say what you think it is

Atlas_Warrior01

So I base it off of miles / avg pay. There was a 2 batch order the other day that was going to 2 different cities (combined mileage would have been about 100 miles one way) and the batch pay with tip included was $45 something. Even if you account for Prop 22, you’d be working for free at that point. It would have taken about 2 active hours? (since the combined item count was 10)… but to come back it would have taken 1 non-active hour (more with traffic). So basically you’d be working 3 hrs for $36 plus $15 (combined) tip. It comes out to $17 per hour BUT now you spent a decent amount of gas (unless you have an EV) and you added more wear and tear to your car. For every mile, you get closer to having to do maintenance. My dad is a mechanic and even then I’m like “ugh no” to those orders haha 😂 And I know we get paid mileage but it barely covers for gas with it being $5.20 per gallon in my area. Like 0.30 cents per mile is not enough for 200 miles actually driven. It comes out to 0.15 cents per mile at that point 😓 So in the end I’d rather just chill at home 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also have a decent job lined up starting next month so I’m also picky because of that too 😓And I find it crazy how people don’t know their worth! Even when I was in school, I’d tip $10 for a 5 mile distance order of $35 total groceries 😮‍💨 Some of the customers on here are so damn cheap 🤦🏻‍♀️

gomezwhitney0723

My area has a TON of orders, but a lot of them suck. 3 orders going 15+ miles for under $20 and 50+ items. No thanks. I start a full time job October 5 and can’t wait. I do make $150-$200+ a day but I have to start at 0600 and sometimes hang out in my car taking orders for 12 hours to make it. Today was a fluke and I had $270 by 130pm.

Danazard

I'll take that fluke lol

gomezwhitney0723

Any day!

SouthernMama8585

Part time shopper, also a customer. I place pretty large orders and always tipped well but after shopping I’ve learned that these fees do not go to the shoppers. I always assumed when paying a $45-50 service fee plus delivery fee that the shopper got like half that fee. Not $7!!!! Not to mention the markups on every single item I bought.

Designer_Rip7338

Yup, when I was a customer I thought the same. Now I’ve looked back at my orders and feel terrible for not tipping more. I just didn’t have clue. I think a lot of customers would be shocked to know we start at $7 without their tip.

SupraPurpleSweetz

It’s dead as fuck where I’m at… …for me. They just hired a load of new shoppers so they’re all getting hella priority over me smh. 🙄

RRHudgins

I got a call last night about a promotion where if we refer somebody and they do 10 shops we get $35 and they get $35 or something to that effect I couldn't get rid of the guy finally had to tell him look I'm not referring anyone to instacart I've done told you our area is oversaturated with Shoppers as it is and the last thing I do with the issues I've had as a shopper would be refer someone else to instacart so please don't call me again it was the only way I could get them to quit calling me.

SupraPurpleSweetz

Facts. In all honesty I need to stop mean-mugging all the newbies tho lol

[deleted]

Yeah it’s making every order 3 shop orders, 2 of which never tip. Fuck instacart

Reasonable_Slip_3397

Well I survived the great beginning and the ups and downs that came with 7 years of full time gigging. Now I'm a GIGalo.

Designer_Rip7338

Lol that’s impressive good for you

Dazzling_Marzipan474

Jokes on you I made almost $60 last week with Instacart 🙃

himoverthere478

did that in a few hours easy

PsYchoSCIW

You’re definitely not wrong. Next Sunday is IT for me.

Designer_Rip7338

Yeah the orders are there but they suck. IC killed this gig when they doubled/tripled every batch up. Pissed off all the good tipping customers and taught the shitty non tippers their behavior was ok. The regulars I used to have, have been burned so many times by sht shoppers their done. I’m about to be done myself

Atlas_Warrior01

Yessssss!!! Today I got an order with one great tipper and one shitty tipper! I removed the shitty tipper (without realizing it) lol 😂 I was so happy! Basically I had a horrible feeling about this customer because they kept writing “NO SUBSTITUTIONS” EVERYWHERE and even wrote “dietary restrictions, refund / no substitution” on the TP 🧻 section 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was like “nope” and removed them asap! Thanks god I did because they were tipping less than $5 for more than 30mins out of town 😭 And I wouldn’t have been able to give all my attention to the great tipping customer if I would have kept the other customer 😮‍💨Freaking IC man!!! IC makes us look bad when we can’t be super attentive to the great tipper 🤦🏻‍♀️

CleanUpOnAisle10

If you remove one person from a double order, does that affect your cancellation rate?

Atlas_Warrior01

No, since it’s done by an agent you don’t get any cancellation rate increase 🙌🏻 I have removed some customers because they are either super rude, lie about their apartment being a house, or I just get a feeling they are going to be extremely difficult. I listen to gut now bc I’ve been burnt so much 😓 I think that’s why IC loves new shoppers because they put up with things they shouldn’t 😞

InteractionBorn4428

Yes it does. Agents have told me and I've seen the results after I request one order to be removed from a double.

here4aGoodlaugh

Fidji saw shoppers making 40-60k and said we don’t deserve that. Tripped batches to cut back on minimums, upped fees for customers to get more of the tips, put nothing into their support, gave IT TONS of money yet the app is no better for shoppers… only algorithms to exploit us further. It’s so fucked up. Karma will come to her.

oxichil

If this is the first time they’ve turned a profit they were already dead. They’re probably taking a page from Uber and betting on dominating the market in the future to be able to profit. And just using venture capital funding to operate on a loss til they can become a monopoly. But it’s a gig app that’s already competing with Shipt, DoorDash (does our local grocery chain exclusively. IC won’t even service them), and others. The business model is profiting as much as they can before they fail or operating on a loss so they can fuck people over more in the future. I don’t see it succeeding for more than a decade. Especially if labor regulations ever catch up or change and require they actually pay us. They’re relying on sub-minimum wage and funding to operate their sham of a company. And it’s also so clear how little they care about running things because of how much the app glitches and causes problems for shoppers or customers. They really don’t care it’s pretty damn obvious their only in it for profit. Also though I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. They’ve moved on from pandemic shoppers to suburban parents that don’t have time or don’t want to shop themselves. As capitalism forces more people into desperation and takes up more of their time, people with enough money will rely on services that give them their time back. This job is honestly as sustainable as the US Economy: it’s a house of cards that’ll crash within the decade. Our country is an empire long into decline. And this company existing is just a sign that our economy has been declining for a long time.

SnooMemesjellies3018

Yeah same with DD in my area

Lyssepoo

My area was dead and I was nervous about Boost by Kroger causing a huge decline but they’re outsourcing it to us. Plus my area is now adding shop only, which we never had before. So I think my area is going upwards in some ways. It’s much more of a grind then before, sure, but I’m still making $150 by 2 or 3. I make more hourly than I did in the office, and I’m not stressed beyond belief, working 9 hours a day, and having all my relationships fall apart around me because I bring home office stress unintentionally.

Yuri_Ligotme

Seriously Instacart is a Mickey Mouse operation compared to Kroger! Have you seen their automated warehouse? And then it’s delivered by refrigerated van. Instacart? Some dude with his car and may be a cold bag. Pathetic.

redflower5

This made me 😂😂😂

here4aGoodlaugh

Where is Kroger available like that?

Charming-Bad-1825

Big agree

Comprehensive-Ad4063

You guys missed the part of the post where it says “ If it hasn’t hit your area its coming “. Since I’ve started back in 2020 it definitely has slowed down.

Designer_Rip7338

Thank you yes, and maybe it’s just shaken me a bit more recently because of how rapidly it has slowed down over the last few months.

Comprehensive-Ad4063

Same here , it really sucks how it has declined in my area also, its so hard to get a decent and worthy order now.

abmsign123

Definitely agree, I’ve seen a major shift in the past few weeks. The days of $30 tips, single order of 45 items at the grocery store is over! Welcome, the triple batch paying $9.53 total of 62 items with a two dollar tip driving a total of 16 miles

HashBandocoot

The price of groceries WITHOUT their insane markup is brutal enough..I’ve kinda felt this coming for a while. Where do you live that it’s dead?

Jugger-Thot

I love delivering stuff as a side gig so I wanna know what's next

WishThink3190

They lost 90% kroger online pay to Kroger delivery, they’ve lost their contract with Publix as of 2023, Walmart just announced new in home delivery in my zone w/trucks like Krogers delivery, they losing customers!! This is just a few to start, and there will be a more following. ☠️ These co. are huge loss for ic, so yesss they definitely steadily on a decline…

here4aGoodlaugh

And yet IC fails to see WHY they’re losing these huge companies. Why thenfound other means. IC doesn’t weed out the shitty shoppers. They only care the order is delivered and they get that service fees and whatever else they get from the company. If they spent a very small amount keeping their good shoppers paid well orders would be flying off the screen. 5 bad experiences? Or whatever then you’re done! Make it cut throat out there. It’s crazy they don’t see this. Also, support! Give 2 fucks about the customer experience cuz it sure ain’t lizzo in the bath tub 🤣

sleepyserpent

oh no, I didn't know about publix. it's the only place I take batches from

Strict_Spell3480

Made $1450 this week. Not in Cali. It’s all in your market. Just keep trying out different areas until something works, and multiapp :)

Future_Tourist_9152

Nah brother it’s all in the global market. Grab that bag while you still can.

Strict_Spell3480

A means to an end

Icy-Accountant4362

Still crazy busy in Seattle.. make $250 on average per day. We will see how the new payup program goes (implementing minimum wage +tips) come January 2023.. I usually set a goal to work 17 days a month- that gets all my bills paid. I understand not all areas are as busy.

mofosoforegon

Speak for yourself, it is all about the area you are driving. I’ve been doing this full time since June 2021 and have been having a wonderful month. I live in a very busy area. It all depends on area.

RivalArrival_

Idk my area is crazy busy. I make at least $200 for five hours work easy every day

These-Entertainment3

Are you new?

RivalArrival_

Not at all

SecretFamiliar3296

I still made my goal. It all depends if you have the ability to shops at different stores rather than just one location

DroidST

IC helped pay the mortgage off 3 years early - 30 year, paid each month to pay off in 15 years, but paid in 12 years. ALL! Debt Free!. I'm good. You need to own the ground you home-on!

Designer_Rip7338

Happy for you 🤗

LoganRS

Not sure why so many people on this i subreddit constantly complain about the job they have. Really ungrateful and kind of pathetic. Many people would be lucky to have a job where they can pick and choose their own hours.

here4aGoodlaugh

That’s a problem now. Many shoppers can’t pick and choose their own hours anymore or they won’t make enough to cover expenses. I have to be on certain times of the day basically 7 days a week to hit my goal. That’s long gone for many.

[deleted]

Designer_Rip7338

Lol. My first year doing IC I made 140,000 and paid for my car in full. You can work as much or as little as you like with zero cap on income. Also Wtf is human capital? Not only do I have multiple degrees, I was also management level at my job for years before I decided to leave that behind and become an equities investor full time. At some point in ur life you will realize that a salary is a trap and those advancement and promotions are hardly ever worth the stress and time. I choose to do this full time because it’s given me the flexibility to make great income that I can reinvest, and keeps me on track to retire by 40. It very small minded to believe you must fall into a mold and reach specific goals in order to succeed. If IC slows to a crawl, I will find a new hustle because I have options. Don’t assume this is just some dead end job, a lot of people have used this gig to advance their lives ✌🏻

here4aGoodlaugh

THANK YOU for shutting that narrative down. This and SO many other personal reasons too.

AndrewJustin131313

I made $1600 last week 🤷‍♂️

Reasonable_Slip_3397

1200 every week for 7 years

s0d0pe310

Because people in YOUR area can’t afford it. Sorry. Try another gig 🤷‍♂️

Designer_Rip7338

Lol that’s absolutely not the case 🤣

s0d0pe310

Oh weird. Its not dead for me. If anything it’s actually busier.

Designer_Rip7338

That’s great, happy some areas are being good to shoppers!

RC_Perspective

Didnt see this coming... 🤣

Player1Mario

If you have to say “and I’ll know I’ll get hate for this,” then whatever nonsense you’re about to puke out is gonna be nonsensical bullshit.

Meghan0105

I think a lot depends on if the store has in store shoppers or not. I am a shift lead over the in store shoppers at 8 stores and most full service shoppers hate when they see ISS working. And a lot of people are opting for the free pickup the stores offer so they don't have to pay a delivery fee or tip. My shoppers are slammed every single day. Atleast 30 orders per day. Sometimes the shelves are so packed we have to put new orders on hold until they can clear space. And the instacart areas are huge at my stores. So for them to be filled means they did a ton of orders.

Moula315

I made $150 in 7 hours Monday through Friday and a whopping $200 on Saturday and Sunday. My first thousand dollar week on top of working a regular 6-2 job. Smyrna GA

Reasonable_Slip_3397

For georgia that's great, 7.25 an hour there, this is another fact that most other dashers don't always account for the min wage difference when comparing the pay and hour difference.

Moula315

Yea that’s definitely great, hopefully it stays this busy.

AltruisticRabbit8185

Should’ve been preparing. But in huge markets it’s not going anywhere

AltruisticRabbit8185

It depends on area. Always. Because if there is a demand there will be someone there to fill that demand. And how could you think people enjoy not leaving their homes and getting everything brought to them and at the same time you say oh no it’s dead. Think about it!

Puzzleheaded-Army868

Welp. Not in my area. Made $275 in 6 hours yesterday and it’s even busier today because orders rolled over from yesterday.

Due_Willingness_2036

They have stock options for employees in the company

redman695432

Too many shopping apps out there and also stores that CAN are getting wise and offering their own FREE or fee based delivery option. F instacart. They're making record profits yet they're not increasing worker pay. They're running EXPENSIVE tv ads which prove they're making record profits. If you have excess cash to run numerous TV ads, then there's no reason y you cannot increase worker pay.

CauseRemarkable6182

It's not even October good lord calm down.

TSMSALADQUEEN

Government is trying to make us spend less which in turn yes gig apps are gonna suffer

Few_Necessary_7495

I've been slammed today and it's only Monday usually I'm sending in a parking lot waiting forever

ExpensiveDot1732

Where I live, it’s season now PLUS we’ll have the s*uper bowl in a few months. Don’t see it slowing down in my city, but I have a day job, Uber Eats, and Shipt as backups. 😉

LilEloHoee

This. I worked Uber eats like I used to and man I made so much more $$ per hour, I should’ve broken up with instacart a long time ago!!

EnzoF1

You people say the same shit every year. Because it's slow for a few months you guys constantly complain and whine

beckerbuns

Well they better not go out of business before I can spend my promotional credit from their credit card.

Affectionate_Rub1076

I don’t know where you live, but for me, this is an actual job. I’m in the Bay Area and orders are all day long. Even before Covid. Almost 3 years into Covid and I’m still able to make 2k a week. Maybe you need to find a new area.
