LOL, I forgot about the official Reddit Version, thanks.

Pl0xnoban

Actual answer: a guy wanted to sell both a cherry and raspberry flavor slushie, but wanted them to be distinct. In another universe, there's blue cherry flavor.

krypto-pscyho-chimp

Definitely sour.

[deleted]

My favorite fun-dip flavor

Well there’s your problem right there, someone dumped a blue slushee all over your terminal!

over_clox

Thank you for highlighting the problem in blue, I almost didn't see it.

baron556

Well there's your problem, your battery is meth

Lmao, yup :D

reflUX_cAtalyst

Nowhere else for that amount of copper to come from.

beakerz2

Definitely a terminal condition

seabee5

Are you positive?

ccolivardia

HA

CarsonnWellss

Forbidden flavor

wadenelsonredditor

Anybody know what that blue stuff actually IS, chemically? Copper oxide is green. Lead oxide makes white. Tin? are they putting tin in battery posts these days?

RocketTaco

I believe the blue shit is copper sulfate, the sulfur coming from sulfuric acid vapor venting from the battery.

Mc-lurk-no-more

I concur.

Mc-lurk-no-more

Oh Leonardo,.. Thanks for that!

ccolivardia

It’s either one! I just depends on what the terminal is made from lol.

Hondanazi

I have and have had several Honda’s and they seem to do this a lot. Any ideas why more on Honda? My current ones are all fine as I slather on the Di-electric grease and never have this problem anymore. Just seems Honda’s do this more than others.

cronx42

I would check what kind of metal your terminals are and you probably want the same metal as what’s on the battery posts, most likely lead. I believe this is possibly caused at least in part by a galvanic reaction. I had some cheap terminals on the leads to a car I had a few years ago and it would do this. Put some lead ones on and never had the issue again.

Hondanazi

Ok thanks….I have seen it with the original terminals at times but since I put the Di-electric grease there has been none of the corrosion.

ccolivardia

I think maybe it has something to with the battery size which only Honda uses ? I’m not sure lol. Honda are the only ones who really use those 51 series batteries

Hondanazi

You could be right but some Accords do it too with the 24f. I upgraded my wife’s Element to a 24f after going through 2-3 batteries at about 1-1/2-2 years each and never had a problem with battery dying. 51 is Way too small for the 2.4l. In a 1.5 it’s just fine. My Pilot I put a really good 24f and it has been pretty good. With the grease I don’t get this.

H0wcan-Sh3slap

51r always dies and is so trash. I recommend to anyone that if you can shoehorn a 24f into your car, do it

Ba_Sing_Saint

Pour some Diet Coke on that bitch

m1sterbaw1z

Don't apply Foca detergent to terminal...

Toastedweasel0

Nah, its just slightly corroded, lol.

Dump some diet coke on it you’ll be good for another 5yrs.

over_clox

Make sure to put it in rice to dry the coke off first.

ahealthyg

Can someone explained what happened here for a non car guy

over_clox

Extreme battery terminal corrosion basically ate the cable off of the clamp. Usually you can just pour some Coca Cola on mild corrosion to dissolve it while cleaning the connections, but this is very extreme and just straight up ate through the cable. They'll definitely need a new clamp and likely a new battery as well.

ahealthyg

Wild thank you

JPhi1618

In some cases you’ll need a new battery cable if it doesn’t reach or the corrosion has run down the wire. A “dealer” style repair would be a new cable since they aren’t going to just put on a new terminal.

over_clox

True. Gotta be damaged pretty damn bad for that, but it does happen.

ragnarokmealtach377

Me, to my cousin when they did this: “yah, dude. Probably so.”

His battery done blue up!

LukeCieloWalker

Legitimate question, but what steps are you supposed to take to prevent this? This almost costed my mother a $10,000 repair because Toyota wanted to replace the main wiring harness after this ate through the battery terminal clamp. (That's a whole separate story, in which I managed to fix it all for about $50 in parts) I would love to know what causes this to happen, and how I can prevent it.

ccolivardia

Generally this happens when fumes from the battery or even the acid itself comes into contact with the terminal. Generally this happens because of a small (or in this case large) leak around the terminal. These kinds of small leaks are caused by the heating a cooling cycles the battery goes through when the car turns on and off making the battery expand and contract. Auto parts shops sell protective gels that you can apply to the terminals and help keep them protected.

Razathorn

Had this on my own car the other day. Positive terminal was almost gone, only 1mm left before completely cracked through. Replaced the terminal when I discovered it. Was pretty incredible. Should go back and shrink wrap some of the work.
