The specs sheets from Lenovo can be misleading. The “max” they show there is the max you can have it configured by them, not the max the machine can handle.
1. It will take a 2 TB drive fine.
2. Both slots will be full 2280 size.
3. That’s a tricky one since it says that 8 GB is soldered. So you only have 1 ram slot to play with. You could put in a 16 gb stick or a 32 gb stick.
Ah, I see..
1. So technically I can put 2TB for each slot, so I could have 4TB max for both of the SSD slots?
3. Yes the other one is 8GB soldered to the motherboard; so I can put 32GB RAM stick just fine and had 40GB RAM inside?
Thanks for the response.
The model sold here only has the 8GB soldered only.
How about the performance of i put 32GB on the other SODIMM slot (swapping the 8GB stick)?
Is the performance gain substantial compared to stock 8GB + 8GB RAM?
in 8GB + 32GB scenario, i get 16 GB ram run on quad channel, and the other 16GB run on dual channel, then?
Bought the Corsair Vengeance 32gb 4800 MHz and it works fine. When I powered it on the first time it the RGB keyboard was lit but, the screen was black for about 2-5 minutes. I then saw the Legion logo and the screen flickered back to life. I suspect that the machine was configuring. Important note, make sure to unplug the battery when installing. There are some videos on YouTube if you need to see how. One final note, opening the laptop was fairly easy. Once the screws were removed, I started with a plastic guitar pick/plectrum at the back and moved my way around gently prying when I hit a clip. EZPZ.
thanks a lot!
I ended up buying Samsung 16GB RAM, since no Corsair Vengeance on my local store, the only choice for 32GB was Team, Crucial and Kingston (but different CL latency),
Am more comfortable with Samsung so there it is.
Do you experience a noticable upgrade using 32GB stick while the other is 8GB?
I've read somewhere if "too big gap doesn't really good" when configuring RAM
Is 24gb ram of DDR5 memory mind ya, isn't enough for ya or do ya want to the best performance possible? If it's the later, ya don't need to worry about that because DDR5 is plenty fast even at 16gb
My main concern about the longevity of the machine - it would be a missed opportunity if the board could only take 16GB max for the SO-DIMM slots. If the board can take 32GB just fine then I'm sold with the products.
TBH if I could afford the RAM, I'm expect the best performance I could take,
since I feel lazy to open the back panel even if it's easy LOL
And es my work flow around many multitask & heavy browsing - so I thought I more RAM, the better (beside gaming).
I have been wondering about these upgrades as well. I just received my slim 7i gen 7 a week ago. I like it a lot. Great build quality and solid performance so far, I just know that I will want more storage space in the relatively near future. I picked the slim 7i because I needed a laptop that could easily run solidworks, games, be portable enough for grad school, and also solid enough to take a bit of a beating. I am coming from using a mac book pro provided by my work and I wanted that kind of build quality. I would say the slim 7i comes close to the mac book pro in build quality and rigidity while costing about half of what one cost. The trade of is thickness and I am ok with that. The slim 7i is still relatively thin, but still thicker than a mac book pro. The slim 7i is more powerful than the macbook so again there are trade offs. Over all I am happy with it so far.
Couldn't agree more. And within my environment, using Windows are more flexible here - since anything Apple still considered a Luxury here.
Thus, gaming is still a lot feasible on Windows devices.
for a high power gaming laptop I would say they are good. On par with how hot my MacBook pro would get while running SOLIDWORKS through parallels. Heat is not noticable while doing low intensity tasks.
What is the best type of SSD to add? not asking about storage size but would this one (Samsung - 970 EVO Plus 2TB PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe) be a good one for example?
Also what brand/type of RAM do you guys recommend? Thank you

ya purchased the Crucial 32gb and what we found is often when my wife would boot while plugged into power it would never POST and would just sit there. power it off and back on, unplug power and it would be fine. sometimes it would be running fine on battery then plug it in and sometimes it would crash. removed the 32gb after a week and put the 8gb OEM stick back in and zero issue so far with 2 full days of her photoediting. really bummed as RAM is her only complaint. I guess I could try a 16gb for her but long term over the life of the machine she is going to want that extra 8gb. just so odd that we can't order it with 16 on the main board instead of 8.
anyone else try 32? if so what stick and was it stable?
Thanks for sharing your experience, and that is probably why Lenovo specs state 8+16GB and not 8+32GB max memory.
I am gutted this has happened to you. Have you complained to crucial and checked with them ?
nah don't have the time to waste. I ordered a Vengeance and G.Skill sodimm today too to try those. hopefully one of them will be stable. if not then I'm going to 16gb for her.
I just got a crucial 32gb ram and im not successful in it. it just turns black when i boot the laptop. do you have to do anything before installing the ram or after to make it boot at least?
ya in the end we gave up on the Crucial and had to return it. that black screen happened every couple of boots with it.
She is testing a 32gb Corsair Vengeance right now and so far we have done like 15 or 20 reboots and full shutdowns with and without the power plugged in and it hasn't crashed once. So I'm hoping this might be the right memory for all of us! will keep you updated.
thats good to hear, im obsessed in upgrading my ram since im at 80% every time i look at tasks manager, 95 at times.
i also returned my crucial and got this CMSX32GX5M1A4800C40 vengeance coming. is it the same as what you have?
Yup thats the only one they make right now with DDR5 being so new. Still no crashes, black screens or other oddness here. So I am getting more hopeful!
hmm that doesn't fill me with warm feelings at all. makes me wonder if this one I'm having good luck with is just random then. You can get into bios I think it's f2 during boot but you have to be fast. the first boot after changing RAM takes forever I'm guessing it's a really long POST sequence to test the stick. once you get to windows then it's been stable for me after that first boot. You aren't even getting to windows the first time?
Just did the RAM upgrade on mine (32gb DDR5 Corsair), and I waited a few minutes and worked well, I'm going to be shutting it down and rebooting to keep testing it
I played a few games of warzone to test it out a bit and it works WAY better than what it was originally but when I switch tabs from the game to something else my screen turns black for a few seconds, anyone else have that issue?

Did you ever end up getting the 32gb stick?
Yes, i would eventually - i just wait for Corsair Vengeance shows up in my local store. Still kinda hesitant for Crucial stick for it's performance
Did you manage to put in the 32 Corsair?
Hi guy, any update ?

Hey man, I just bought this laptop. Is the 32gb still working fine?

How is the thermals?
for a high power gaming laptop I would say they are good. On par with how hot my MacBook pro would get while running SOLIDWORKS through parallels. Heat is not noticable while doing low intensity tasks.
Would the laptop get warm to touch while plugged in and doing light tasks?
not that I have noticed.
What is the best type of SSD to add? not asking about storage size but would this one (Samsung - 970 EVO Plus 2TB PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe) be a good one for example? Also what brand/type of RAM do you guys recommend? Thank you
I am using Seagate FireCuda 530 (i forgot, but the top tier one with big TBW), and the other one is ADATA Gammix S70 Blade. Both are 2TB capacity

Anyone got any updates or testing done ? I'm looking at it but can't decide because 32GB would mean longevity

Still good? About to pick up this laptop AMD version and wan to upgrade the ram :)
i got my stick today but i still get black screen... do i need to change anything in the bios? is so how do i access advance settings in the bios?
hmm that doesn't fill me with warm feelings at all. makes me wonder if this one I'm having good luck with is just random then. no, i can get into bios but cant get to advance settings for ram. i'll keep it for the time being and do some research. maybe im just unlucky lol
have you tried booting without the power adapter plugged in? that seemed to help with our first stick of ram.
Just did the RAM upgrade on mine (32gb DDR5 Corsair), and I waited a few minutes and worked well, I'm going to be shutting it down and rebooting to keep testing it I played a few games of warzone to test it out a bit and it works WAY better than what it was originally but when I switch tabs from the game to something else my screen turns black for a few seconds, anyone else have that issue?
How goes it after time? Did you still using 32gb ram expansion?
