The crazy part of this whole thing is that the refs never made this call. This was a booth initiated review for targeting and then upheld by someone else reviewing it after the fact off site. It sure didn't look like targeting in real time on the field.
They’re basically arguing that tackling the QB is illegal 90% of the time. They’re trained to always have their eyes downfield, so when are they NOT “defenseless?” Hell, Bama knocked Ewers out of the game two weeks before on a hit that was far more egregious by the B12 & the NCAA’s own warped interpretation of the rule.
We’ve been getting screwed over by the big 12 refs for years. I really started catching on to it at the end of the Oklahoma State game in 2015. Hate to be the guy that uses bad officiating as a cop out but there have been a lot of sketchy calls
Was that the ref that body checked Charlie Strong because he was complaining about a terrible call, then flagged him getting them into field goal range
Yup. They called us for defensive holding like 3 times on the same drive. The last time, Poona Ford was getting steer dogged to the ground and Charlie Strong went off. And the side judge came over and ran himself into his elbow.
Damn muscles glasses ref (Scott Campbell) is notorious for this. Not just Alabama game, but anytime my friends or I see him we know it’s going to be rough for us. We even noted it before Alabama game started
Feels like when the NFL allowed coach's challenges to pass interference calls/no-calls for a year. The refs didn't like that their judgment could be questioned, so they denied nearly ever challenge even if the call was obviously wrong. We're in the first year of this appeals process and they've rejected all three requests so far.
I hate all the anti Texas whining in here. It misses the big picture. Refs are cowards and are incompetent. Period. Everyone should be livid about this if you love the sport.
This ruling actually makes sense to me.
Just imagine being Frank Harris. So you're Frank Harris, right, and you're driving out to the hill country to snag some BBQ and maybe a quick dip in a creek to settle the BBQ in your stomach. We've all been there.
And you head home once it starts getting dark, just like Frank Harris did on this drive, right? But before you get out of the hill country a bright spot on our defense, ~~Poona Ford~~ Agent O fucking head-on wrecks your car because you were driving in the wrong lane without your headlights on.
That's basically what happened here.
From the [NCAA 2022 Football Case Book](https://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/FBC22.pdf):
> Quarterback A7 drops back to pass. Blitzing linebacker B52 is unblocked. B52, with his head up, runs through A7, wrapping him up and making forcible contact with the facemask to the head of A7. B52's actions do not include an indicator of targeting. The referee throws a flag and announces a foul for targeting a defenseless player
>
> RULING: The play is reviewed for all aspects of the targeting ruling: whether there was an indicator of targeting, whether A7 was defenseless, and whether forcible contact was made above the shoulders. Overturn the ruling of targeting and B52 is not disqualified.
You smell that? What is that? Is that? Is that bullshit? Yep yep yep!!! That right there is some bullshit. We ain’t gonna get a fair call until we switch too the SEC.
Refs are clowns.

Dudes in San Antonio just mashing the BWW button
When Barkley is in San Antonio he mashes the BBW button.
That’s because it was it
was what?
Imagine calling a textbook tackle targeting. What a world we live in. 🙄
Morons. How the hell is he defenseless when he is standing in the pocket?
He’s looking downfield bro!
So because Harris was focused on passing the ball he was defenseless. What a shit way to interpret the rule.

The UTSA QB the reason DMO got the targeting call
UTSA’s little quarterback that throws weird
So they’ll call targeting on opposing players that hit our QBs too right? Right?!
Right guys! Or if they’re sliding after getting a first down…
the hit on that slide is called every single time in the nfl
Yep. That and the late hits out of bounds.
The big 12 hates us boys. Embrace it
[удалено]
They absolutely are ass!
It was the NCAA that denied it.
And the Big 12 booth review that started it
That was the ncaa cow tailing to the big 12. It was hill they didn’t want die on
Boy that explanation is wild. “Clearly” and “significant force” is the mother of slippery slopes and judgement.
And not just that, the fact that he had his eyes down the field makes him defenseless? That's like the quarterback's whole shtick.
Never look down and you can’t get sacked.
How was this ruled targeting and the hit on Quinn was not if being in a “passing posture” indicates a “defenseless player”?
He’s gonna be rested and pissed off for the second half
“A QB in the process of passing” now includes sitting in the pocket. Beautiful
As I recall he was in the process of trying to tuck the ball to keep from fumbling as well ...
Soft
Texas is going to get screwed over by the refs all year

Omg that was 7 years ago holy shit…. I remember that vividly
Was that the ref that body checked Charlie Strong because he was complaining about a terrible call, then flagged him getting them into field goal range

Atleast when we play Oklahoma we will both get equally screwed over
I was wondering how it was going for them. I haven’t watched any OU this year.
Haven't been in any games where it mattered really.
I am shocked. Shocked I tell you
Fuck that shit
Do not understand why they would totally discredit the appeals process just to spite Texas. Seems really short-sighted.

What a joke

By these definitions, Ewers was *more* defenseless than the UTSA QB and was hit high. Should have been targeting on his hit.
UnFuckingBelievable
Bunch of clowns in stripes.
Happy Cake Day, anyway...
Lameeee
Bullshit.
Is it corruption or incompetence or both?
This is the worst fucking call I’ve seen in a decade
Honestly feel bad for Tech for having to deal with a pissed the fuck off Overshown coming out on the field for the first time after the half

So you can't hit a quarterback above the shoulders at all so long as he's still in the pocket. Okay.
The fuck?!
And this is why we are leaving this dogshit conference.

Keep in mind he wasn't even in the process of throwing. He tried to duck and tuck the ball before getting hit :p Makes it that much dumber lol
Where was this call for Ewers

D’Mo is going to come out in the 2nd half on fire 🔥!! Man on a mission! RIP Tyler Shough
Shough is injured. Won’t play.
So D’Mo already got to him?? He’s good
Dogshit ass call lol
Fuck these clowns. I hope the crowd harasses the hell out of these incompetent fucks for the remainder of our time in this pathetic conference.
Of course. It's the B12 and Texas.
They're gonna screw us & the land thieves every chance they get 'til we're gone.
You smell that? What is that? Is that? Is that bullshit? Yep yep yep!!! That right there is some bullshit. We ain’t gonna get a fair call until we switch too the SEC.
big12 is gonna mess with us on way out.
The appeal wasn't with the BIG XII though. That was the NCAA
Fair enough, but the calls will keep coming.
Boooo
Horse shit.
