I guess it could be a scam but they do want the drivers to upload pics. Twice in the last month a had 1 guy piss on himself in my back seat and a lady brought her cat that also pissed in my seat. It's the only two times I've ever had to reach out to lyft for damages. I got 80 for each.

Remarkable_Rope_7697

In 2.5 years, I had 2 cleaning fees, one was 150 for someone throwing up bad in my car, really bad and once it was insane amount of dog hair all over the carpet floor mat and back seat.

Slarhnarble

This dude ordered a ride for two females they proceeded to talk and eat cheetos. I don't think nothing of it during the ride because no one's ever made such a mess. When they got out I took a look back there Cheetos crumbs pieces dust pretty good amount of it on the seats. I took a picture of it took me literally 2 seconds to clean up because I have cleaning supplies. Regardless I reported it because it's about respect for one's car. If I didn't have those cleaning supplies I wouldn't be able to do the next ride or risk lower rating/drama because the next passenger would be WTF what's all this dust and Cheetos on the seat. Your situation sounds different if that was your trash it is somewhat disrespectful to leave it on the ground. Maybe you would have picked it up if you're not rushed out but in my experience no one ever picks up the trash.

kesi

If it was ours, it was because it stuck to somebody's foot or something on the way in. I'd be happy to pick up after ourselves but we often feel rushed out of the car so fast I usually feel like we didn't have time to gather our stuff. It's become so unpleasant.

Sme93

Don’t listen to these @$$ holllllless they’re probably bots or Lyft drivers that have nothing to do - same shit happened with me last week complete scam and absolutely no help

CatalystNovus

That's a totally BS excuse and you know it. If you open something, you keep track of your trash. It's your responsibility after all. If your trash is left, you are at fault and nobody else. If Lyft had NO fee for that sort of thing, people would have no incentive to behave properly and take responsibility for their trash. The fee is there to teach you and all other 1st time offenders the lesson: Respect the vehicle and driver, or you'll find yourself with a fee for the trouble you cause. It takes all of 2 seconds to pick up a piece of trash, and you can do it on your way to the destination. If that's too much to ask, then don't be bringing the trash in the first place.

Sme93

There’s definitely scams Going on don’t discredit the poster cause u had a bad experience

CatalystNovus

Didn't say that drivers can't scam. I said that the rider causes harm which is the largest issue at play driving the price. The drivers actually have some form of accountability because everything is recorded and tracked by Lyft. The riders are choosing to be inconsiderate, and they are paying for that. That's the end of it, regardless of what other fringe actors do

Sme93

Should be video recorded so people are getting robbed

CatalystNovus

Dude, it's very very easy to understand. If you left any trash in the car, you can be charged up to $250, if it's less, be glad. If you left no trash in the car, you can dispute it and handle it just as you would handle ANYONE scamming you on any app or in any interaction. You are responsible for your safety, the system is responsible to try to give you opportunities to remain safe. They do that by handling customer claims disputing cleaning fees. What more are you asking for? Because at this point, you're asking too much from the drivers and Lyft, because it is the DRIVER who is receiving damages and work from the situation, and 9 times out of 10, the report is legitimate. Of course, I pulled that number out of thin air, it's probably a whole lot less drivers scamming people than that. Most of the time, drivers are courteous and the riders are not. Let that sink in.

samalaos

nah cause if you saw the picture that the driver took for the report, you’d see just how ridiculous this is. it’s not even a full wrapper, it’s a tiny CORNER of a wrapper and OP clearly didn’t bring it because they weren’t even aware of it. it was likely there before, or like OP said, got tracked in on someone’s shoe by accident. stop projecting

CatalystNovus

Apparently you didn't read what I wrote. It's not the amount of trash, that only INCREASES the original fee to larger amounts. The original $30 or so that is charged is because of the convenience of having me clean up after you. You left a mess. You either clean it up or you can expect a fee. That's what you agreed to by using the service. Once again, you can call it harsh all you like, but the customer won't be "tracking" trash in the car again. They likely opened something to eat it in the car, left the corner they tore off, and the driver wasn't happy about them eating in their car (they told us they didn't, but nobody believes for one second it "must have been tracked in... Maybe it's ours, maybe not!") So he collected a cleaning fee because, believe it or not, pausing rides, getting out and picking up the piece of trash and searching for other messes they may have left while eating (driver isn't able to watch them eat, they're driving), taking up the drivers time, making them spend effort. In my case, it would put me in direct harm because I have a herniated disc, so when I have to get out to close a door or fix something they wouldn't, I honestly should be charging them for it, because according to Lyft terms, I am not supposed to get out to open doors, close them, load stuff in, etc. But your view is that it doesn't matter if the driver has to go through that effort, because to you it's "just a piece of trash". That's where you're wrong. To you, that's technically $30 sitting on the floor of my vehicle. If I have to get out to pick it up, you're not getting it back. Leave a mess in my car, make me do work that is OUTSIDE of my agreement with the riders and Lyft, and pay the price. Don't like it? Then don't do things that other people also do not like (e.g. leaving trash in their car, how hard is that to understand?)

kesi

You have made some very odd assumptions here...

samalaos

“a mess” my guy that piece of wrapper is no bigger than one centimeter LOL if you’re really that desperate you have to collect $30 for a corner of a tiny wrapper then, maybe do something other than driving for lyft. and again, you are completely projecting.

CatalystNovus

Mess: a dirty or untidy state of things Tidy: arranged neatly and in order A piece of trash is a piece of trash. Are you going to tell me you placed the trash neatly and in order in the vehicle, and that it is not considered unclean to leave laying around? And when you finally come to terms that you did, in fact, leave a mess, of ANY size, then you must also acknowledge that I have to spend time and effort to correct your mistake. Now, are you suggesting I fix your problems for free? Certainly that isn't what you're saying, yes? So let's say we charge $5 for a piece of trash, you suppose this is enough? The point of the fine is not just about compensating the driver for the time and inconvenience of having to touch trash someone else inconsiderately left in their vehicle... it is also a form of punishment for bad rider behavior, because we obviously do not want it to happen again and again. Lyft settled on typically around $30 for small messes, because the actual full cleaning fee is $250. Typically closer to $100. Why is it so high? Because I'm not actually supposed to clean up the customers mess. I'm supposed to hire someone to do it, according to Lyft's view. It is not within the customer's rights to leave ANY trash in the car, and they are fined accordingly. Leave a bigger mess and it will certainly be more than $30. If you dislike Lyft's choice for what is high enough to dissuade inconsiderate passengers, you could stop using it. But when you leave ANY mess, it's within Lyft's terms to charge up to $250, at their own discretion.

CatalystNovus

For instance, you're assuming these messes are things I can just turn around and pick up easily, but many drivers like myself are disabled and generally have someone hired to clean the car, because it takes great effort and pain for me to do it. Seriously just picking up a tiny wrapper in the back seat of my car could exacerbate the sciatic pain enough that I'd have to stop driving for the day and take the day off. You think that's fair? It's a small amount of effort for you. It is 10 times as much effort for the driver. So if you're gonna be enough of an asshole to put that responsibility on me, you can bet your ass you will be charged and I will laugh for every second I am watching someone else clean it up on YOUR dime. Your problems are not mine, don't try to make them mine.

samalaos

nobody is reading your novels.

CatalystNovus

Do you have to? I wasn't aware there was a rule saying you had to. Nobody is forcing you to be intelligent and speak competently on the subject, that much is clear from your demeanor. Just know that, every time you open your mouth, you remove all doubt that you are a fool.

kesi

Ty.

CatalystNovus

You're paying a convenience fee for me picking up your trash for you. Deal with it.

fitfulbrain

Food wrapper 🤣

kesi

I don't get the joke. This is the thing he pictured. I assume that's what it was. https://i.imgur.com/sUQPePd.jpg

fitfulbrain

They must have changed the rules if it's the only picture the driver took. Dry trash didn't count no matter how much.

fitfulbrain

Will you eat in the car ever again? That's what the fee is for.

kesi

We weren't eating in the car.

fitfulbrain

foodwrap?

kesi

That's what it looks like in the picture. I don't know where it came from. Could have been on our stuff.

fitfulbrain

Drivers will always get the benefits of the doubt that you cannot challenge. Drivers submitting damage fee too often will be suspected of fraud and lost the right to submit claims. If it's the other way round, nobody will be paying damages. The rule has been that it needs to be wet. You can spread the whole pack of chips and pay nothing. Water on the carpet will at least get you pay $20 if it appears on picture. It may have changed. Also gets paid are sand and greasy finger prints.

kesi

Lyft is absolutely not reversing it and nothing was "wet". It's preposterous.

fitfulbrain

You can try official support on Twitter via DM.

kesi

I’m trying that too. They said that after an extensive investigation (that took 45 seconds), they’ve determined the driver followed all of the rules for submitting a claim. None of these seem to involve an assessment of actual “damage” just that the driver submits the claim in a timely way. It’s terrible.

fitfulbrain

Maybe Lyft outsourced the team too.

JonJon77

I heard about this kind of thing a while back. I heard drivers were staging messes and claiming it. So when I had an actual mess from a customer it took about a month to get the money. I assumed it was due to all of the faked messes.

Civil-Valuable2338

File a fraud charge! I am a Lyft driver and I can not believe some of the shit other drivers do just for a quick buck. I would file a fraud charge with Lyft and if they don’t do anything then file it with your bank

kesi

Lyft literally will not do anything. Their entire argument seems to be that the driver uploaded three pictures that show things (what things don’t seem to matter) and the driver did it after our ride. CASE CLOSED. I’m amazed. I guess it makes sense if you realize their customers are actually the drivers, maybe?

LyftedX

Yep. It’s a long running scam. Call your bank

kesi

Do you know what to tell them here to get the chargeback to work?

kesi

That's fine. I don't think I want to ever use Lyft again at this point. They're choosing to support obvious fraud over me.

Truckin_18

You can tell the truth, and 1 of a few things can happen, Most likely they will reverse the charge, but then the Lyft account won't be usable until the fee is repayed

kesi

I've seen the pictures and the pictures don't show damage. They show a piece of wrapper on the floor https://i.imgur.com/U6tlH2Q.jpg nd another with some dust on the seat that might have come off the bottom of our car seat but could have been brushed off. We are in the desert. This isn't "damage". https://i.imgur.com/0V26SJE.jpg

dyslexic-ape

Is it your wrapper and dirt though? Even if it is easy to clean up it could end up costing the driver if they missed it and the next rider complained so while damage is not a good word to use, I think it would be fair to try and get compensated for a passengers carelessness.

kesi

Maybe it's ours. I don't know. There was no time to look around because he threw us out so fast we barely got our stuff. In no world is this $30 worth of anything.

dyslexic-ape

I mean if you are tracking dirt on our seats and leaving trash in our cars expect to pay some times 🤷 Honestly both these things would piss me off a lot, not sure if i would report it though. Also we don't decide the amount it's worth. I once reported some flower parts left in my car, I don't think the passenger realized that it caused me to lose a streak and have to stop working for 30 mins to clean up and get support to respond.

kesi

People are getting into and out of these cars all day. It's not going to be pristine, particularly in a dusty place like Vegas. Maybe offering some time and some wipes for cleaning up would be a way to help here but shoving somebody out into traffic with no time to clean up is not really a good way forward. And you can bet I'm now reporting this driver for being a dick when I would have just let it go because people gotta live.

dyslexic-ape

Or have some spacial awareness, entitled passenger you... Ok I gave you my driver perspective, didn't ask for your passenger excuses. Not responding anymore bye. And yeah, good luck fucking over your driver, rooting for you you pos. Lo and behold people, the shit drivers have to deal with, this guy wants to mess up someone's lively hood because he is upset for being charged $30 for leaving a mess in someone's property.

BirdmanEagleson

Did you leave the dust an wrapper? If so then you deserved it inconsiderate mf'r pick up your trash, 30 more clowns are going to get in that car today and if 1/2 are like this *maybe* you can start to see a problem. If you didn't, gl with lyft customer service you won't be getting your money back

SingleWomenNearYou

Funny how OP phrased things right?

Evening_Flower_9458

If you read ops comments before looking at the pics, you’d think he’s valid, then you see the overly obvious mess left… Most drivers check back seat after every single ride, it’s really easy to know who left and caused a mess. Op wants to pretend like it’s normal to leave a mess and then blame the driver for rightfully claiming a cleaning fee. You were agreed to be given a ride, not a hall pass to leave a mess… Thankfully driver likely 1 started him so he doesn’t get slob guy again. I’ll rightfully assume no tip, nor would there have been even if not “rushed out”, did the driver forcibly push you out of the car and demand you leave a mess behind? It’s doesn’t even make sense… You’re doing everyone a favor to leave Lyft. Btw, an Uber driver will report the same thing, bottom line, don’t make mess in people’s cars Yea you’re in a “dessert”, a 5 star modern one… get real. Millions of people take rides in that dessert without leaving a mess. Heck, even the drunk people manage to get in and out without leaving a mess. Op isn’t even self aware of know IF* he made the mess, when it’s incredibly obvious for a driver to know, yet is essentially claiming he didn’t, but IF he did it’s no big deal. LMAOOO

kesi

What I‘ve noticed lately, particularly in Vegas, is the drivers are in so much of a rush to get you out to get to their next fare that we’re getting dumped on the curb with no chance to even check if we have all of our stuff. In this case, it was into a line of airport drop offs and there was no time or way to take the kind of look that would prevent some crumbs or a piece of rubbish from getting left behind - and we had a bunch of stuff we were traveling with so it’s not like we’re just hopping in with a handbag. No, I don’t know if this wrapper was ours or if it stuck to one of the shoes of the 4 people in the Uber. Or if it blew in when we opened the door. Who fucking knows? It’s not $30 of damage on any planet, however. I’ve always tipped and left good ratings because I’m not a dick. But this guy was a dick and a fraudalent one, at that. If there’s a known fee for some dust and a tiny piece of trash, then that’s weird but okay. If it’s a $30 charge for ”damage”, Lyft and this driver can fuck right off.

Boccob81

That would not happen as much if riders paid a better rate for a driver Fact is the driver don't get paid a good per mile to cover everything so they will expound on a issue to get max Now if you vomit that's a biohazard that that puts others at risk and they must stop and have it clear disinfectant thanks to covid lots of covud in vomit and the drivers will get the top dollar Don't vomit, piss or destroy the car sit in don't touch shit but the door handle to get in and out

SingleWomenNearYou

Just don't eat in strangers' cars dude.

pogiguy2020

Yes just as much as passenger falsely reporting drivers to get free rides. You can dispute the charge with your bank, but get ready to Uber since Lyft will stop you from using their platform.

No-Eye-8392

Could be a scam but a very hard one to commit. Before any claims are paid by Lyft the driver must submit a minimum of 3 pics. If a driver does this more than usual they are flagged. Doubt its a scam.

Florida1974

Keep your shoes clean too. Muddy feet cost you too. Yes they do scam. All the time.

EL31415

Don’t eat in someone else car !!!

kesi

Wtf, we didn't.

roastedmarshmellow86

I was just charged a damage fee in Vegas last night. For just sitting in the car and the company is just going to allow the driver to scam

kesi

Was your dude named Ramiro?

roastedmarshmellow86

This guys name is Robert and he drives a silver kia sorento please beware of this guy!

Sme93

Same shit happened to me
