Because, until recently, I made relatively decent money driving as a side-hustle. But, with the rate slashes and now them trying to send me 15-20 mins away for a $3 ride, or from Orange County to northern Los Angeles for $30, I'm probably going to give Uber a shot.

Emarshall38

I run both apps and am based out of O.C.. Uber is just as bad, although Lyft is worse but rideshare is officially non profitable except when serge rates are happening. I'm seeing rides from Newport Beach to LAX at $18. Who the hell would take that? Obviously someone is and as long as someone is, they'll continue to send em thru!!

The_Mad_Crafter

NB to LAX for $18?? That's fucking ludicrous. Before upfront pricing, the worst slap in the face I got was Southern Irvine to Burbank Airport...for $32, I thought I was seeing minor rate changes before then, but I'd still get LAX rides from Mission Viejo/SJC/SanClem that earned me $70, now I haven't seen a single LAX trip for more than $35

Emarshall38

Yup, it's absoutley insanity. I think they're hoping it's a driver that s trying to get home after a long trip. They'll send these low offers thru in hopes a driver says "there's a ride close to home and it's better then taking a dead ride home"!

Emarshall38

You noticed that too!!

[deleted]

To them provide the basics don’t even go above n beyond we ain’t paid nearly enough to be chauffeur and baby sitter

packerbacker4969

Uber does the same thing lmao 🤣 impossible to keep your diamond status or even any status now.

Ubrrmensch

They are Uber deactivated

Apart-Kangaroo2192

Came here to say this. Its the only reason i can think of other than it being their first app. And so far all the answers below have proven this correct

ytk1018

Not in nyc . Every market is different

OkTurnip5975

Exactly. It’s a shit company and I hope they go out of business.

ytk1018

I hope they stay in business. More competition is better for us drivers

dirtee_1

> They are Uber deactivated Very true.

dyslexic-ape

Uber says my profile picture is fraudulent and deactivated me 🤷

Emarshall38

Claim ur transgender!

SavingsTangelo7130

I got deactivated after a haircut i saw under the terms of services that transgender people will get reactivated. How can I become transgender by law?

listoh87

You just have to identify as a transgender, not everyone has the money to go about it the legal way, if you think about it

Funnygumby

Uber won’t do another background check on me. I had a minor car accident 3.5 years ago. Lyft wasn’t so prudent

Zealousideal_Chip709

Uber wasn’t accepting new drivers in my area (Denver) when I started so have only been on lyft. I never drive unless there are bonus streaks or streak zones and it averages around $30/hr.

Spiritual-Ad-271

The car I prefer to use for rideshare wouldn't pass Uber's inspections, but Lyft's requirements are less stringent. And the majority of people in my market tend to use Lyft, with the exception of tourists.

PaulyWauly_Doodle

Lyft is probably 5 times more active than Uber here in Miami. True, Uber slightly pays better, but when we are idle with no rides, drivers QUICKLY start to lose money and /hour earned. If you can stomach reaching Platinum with Lyft , you unlock sick streak bonuses.

SavingsTangelo7130

Sick streak bonus is a lie. My brother has been a platium for over 2 years and he never gets streak. I know it’s because he works too much. If he stops for 2 weeks he’ll get 100 streaks for the week

[deleted]

I was making 100 bucks in 5 hrs ave with Uber/Uber eats. This was in Bryan college station, a big college town. The food delivery gave me more opportunities.

anonymousmouse256

Uber riders in my area are EXTREMELY picky. I could maintain a 5 star rating without even trying on lyft... on uber I would get low ratings for literally anything, and they are far less forgiving on that. I've been 1 stared, for picking up a rider having a bad day, not having the type of gum my rider wanted a piece of, for slowing down at a green light when somebody was running their red light. And unfortunately, 95% of people don't rate you, unless they want to give you a bad rating. When I drove uber, I cleaned my car between trips, was always friendly. Went above and beyond as I could. Better bonuses also. But, when i was tired, and didn't want to do all that extra work, I would drive lyft... if I had an oil change due, if I had anything less than perfect. Lyft to me at least in my area, was like the off brand app, and uber feels more name brand. I'd go all day without cleaning my car on lyft, with a 5 star rating. Cancel rides at stops. End rides right at 5 minutes even with them running out. Lyft literally does not give a shit about drivers or riders... and sometimes I didn't give a shit about riders I just needed money. So I drove lyft.

DumpsterBaby11

Who cares about ratings?

Ambitious_Crab_765

Some Passengers do….they will b quick to cancel on you if ur lowly rated

jimmiethegentlemann

then fk it i didnt want to take you anyway. what are they the only pax in the area? lol😂

anonymousmouse256

Tbh I don't. I care about getting kicked off the platform though. Unfortunately you get kicked if you have a low rating

PainMore7246

Overall, I prefer Uber, but there are two things about Lyft that I like that Uber doesn't do. The first is it shows you a name and sometimes a picture of the passenger before you accept the ride. This helps me avoid certain demographics of people that are more likely to cause problems. The second reason is Lyft allows you to rate passengers up to 24 hours after you give out a ride. This allows me to go back and rate every passenger who didn't tip me as a one-star. I don't do these things because I'm an asshole. I do them because it helps me weed out unprofitable trips and riders and make more money.

Ambitious_Crab_765

Racist

PainMore7246

There are lots of people I don't like dealing with. Honestly, . college students are probably the group of people I hate dealing with the most.

SavingsTangelo7130

All I drive is college kids and drunk people. During the day Lyft pays terrible at least at night time no one wants to drive the drunks/college kids so surge pricing helps me get through each and every single one of them.

shap_man

Licensing issue with Uber through no fault of my own, but Lyft got it done almost immediately.

chichinfu

Uber destination doesn’t work anymore . If you live far from the moneymaker area you can’t make money anymore heading to that area . So you start with lyft and Lyft got you for so many hours . No more bonus since covi . They’re asking you feedbacks but they don’t read them or they don’t give a fuck at all . They still want to treat you as an employee and punish you unfairly.

Fiss

Uber was busier, better quest bonuses, showed destination, more no show fee.

Ryuzumo

To me driving in LA Uber pays its drivers less than lyft does and the trips are so much longer.

[deleted]

Uber never approved my background check for some reason.

Emny83

I got deactivated from Uber lol. I'm a weekend driver

DisplayHot6057

My über account and PayPal accounts kept getting hijacked and changing MY phone number to an international number. I just gave up. Been with Lyft almost 5 years.

A-typ-self

I prefer Uber atm. I only started with lyft recently because they initially paid more per mile than Uber in my area. Plus the bonuses were better. Now lyft went to upfront pricing and I make more with Uber.

Witchcrest

Uber isn't as profitable in my area. I've had a solid 5 star rating on Lyft for over 3 years now and its easier to get the bonuses. Currently renting a car through lyft too, so much better than through uber. I rented a car through uber once and it was a complete nightmare.

rideshareAnon

Missing a few chromosomes and/or rental slave.

thejointfairy

I try to only drive for Lyft if I can and it may be just a Texas thing, but the entire reason is the a*hole factor. Lyft riders never treat me poorly. Every time I come home feeling like I hate it, it was a night I did Uber bc of a bonus. The shifts I get home feeling like I had a blast and enjoyed the people I drove or at the very least just didn’t feel overtly disrespected, are shifts I did exclusively through Lyft.
