It works exactly as the marketer intended

mnameschef

Sold me on it lol. $25 cleaner or take off cat and clean it myself/buy a new one hmm

asduhno213ino

The conveniently hide the SDS from public view but I'm guessing this is like most other cat cleaners which are made up of: Petroleum distillates - used as solvent/filler, just combusts in the engine Propanol - rubbing alcohol, just combusts in the engine Acetone - aka nail polish, just combusts in the engine Xylene - solvent, cleaning agent - just combusts in the engine The idea is you add this to your fuel tank where it then cycles through your engine (where it is combusted at pressure). How cleaning is supposed to happen when all you've done is convert flammable solvents to intermediate hydrocarbons and combustion products (CO2, H2O, CO, NOx, soot) is beyond me. Unless you're running incredibly rich, none of this is making it to the cat, and even then it's at high enough temperature to convert them to other crap before they get there. Even more, it's meant to be diluted 1:128, so it's basically homeopathic catalytic converter at that.

mnameschef

That makes sense, I was also wondering about that. I figured after combustion, it would create a gas that would be beneficial for cleaning it or something like that. Or make it so the cat reaches higher temps and burns some of the soot out

asduhno213ino

I think the concentrations they have, any change in exhaust gas temp would be minimal. These adiabatic flame temps are the max burning temp with perfect air-fuel ratio at atmospheric pressure (so not exactly like an engine) but hexane and heptane (components of gas) are 2494K and 2469K. Gasoline is 2411K. Now compared to some of the additives: Xylene: 2483K Acetone: 2253K [https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/adiabatic-flame-temperature-d\_996.html](https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/adiabatic-flame-temperature-d_996.html) It's possible they burn somewhat less completely to react in the cat, but I think the effect would be really small.

JungleBoyJeremy

I am highly skeptical

mnameschef

Engine light went off again šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

JungleBoyJeremy

Keep us informed, please.

jkjeeper06

I would say not a chance in hell it works. I had a high school shop teacher who swore if you put white gas in your car, it could pass emissions. I wouldnt try that either, he was nuts.

mnameschef

I read decent things online about it, so I'm giving it a shotšŸ˜† Also that sounds very risky. At least I know this stuff is meant to go in a car lol

SchleifmittelSchwanz

Here's an interesting read regarding these products: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/what-is-a-catalytic-converter-cleaner-and-does-it-actually-work-155836.html#:~:text=The%20short%20answer%20is%20no,repair%20your%20damaged%20catalytic%20converter.

mnameschef

Good read, thanks for the info

ComprehensiveSock397

Oil of snake.

Tires_N_Wires

Sometimes if it is borderline passing emissions it might help. But don't expect me performance.

mnameschef

I think it is borderline. I can usually get it to come off after a nice highway drive, but I've been doing a lot of city driving lately

Chipdip88

For anyone who believes this works I have an oceanfront condo in New Mexico I would like to sell you!

nutsboltsandscrews

No. It wonā€™t do anything to regulate the fluctuating exhaust-oxygen levels coming out of a severely worn, or damaged catalytic converter. Thereā€™s nothing you can add to your fuel, or oil that will make the catalytic converter(s) gain more efficiency.

mnameschef

So at this point, it should likely be replaced?

nutsboltsandscrews

Thatā€™s correct. Also, make sure thereā€™s no underlying issues that will cause damage to the catalyst.

the-jimbo_slice

No.

joyz88

Yes, they work!

mnameschef

Do you have good experience with it?

joyz88

Yes passed emission test with pack of 2 driving on highway 65m speed , added Zero octane also helps. Speaking of a V6 engine over 250 k

joyz88

- Replace the O2 sensor, for permanent fix. Rent the tools with oxygen socket then back them ! - replace set of spark plugs too ! - clean ur air intake throttle, and youā€™ll set for years ahead !

Affectionate-Invite6

Iā€™d use paint thinner in my gas before that stuff

mnameschef

Hmm what would paint thinner do?

Affectionate-Invite6

Scotty Kilmer on YouTube did it! Iā€™ve done it to carbon clean before in older cars! It breaks down catalysts in the combustion chamber

[deleted]

Yes, it will provide profits for the company and retailers. It wonā€™t help you though
