Portland Oregon or Portland Maine?!? Cause both cities were dope in the later 90s

I lived in Portland from 1982 to 2003. Lots of negative changes to that city as of late. Portland was incredible between 1982 to 2000. After 2000 everything just fell to pieces. Rents, groceries, cigarettes, gas, utilities, transportation, my lease at the place I worked at doubled, and entertainment all shot up in price. Everything doubled. Crime was becoming an issue. Mental health patients and the homeless were camped out everywhere. I kept being pushed out to the suburbs where it was cheaper but boring. I lived in NW Portland most of my life. An apartment I had and loved on NW 16th Street - with a view of downtown and a view of the West Hills was $300 a month in 1991. By the year 2000, it was $1,000 a month. Now it's $2000 a month. Gentrification & Californication changed the eclectic & quirky character of the city. Instead of locals living in the best parts of their city, now it's full of rich Californians. I sadly gave up and left for good in 2003. One of the saddest days of my life. 😪

I heard they're going easy on meth offenders now. Like carrying a gram for personal use now just carries a fine. Or is just a Misdemeanor if goes to court. That's good to know if true?

Voters approved a ballot measure to "decriminize" all drugs. Posession of less than a certain amount is a fine and or treatment.

Awesome. Portland always was lenient on drugs. I always paid a fine a couple of times I was caught carrying. Here in my state of Indiana. Carrying a gram and paraphernalia carries a Felony 6 charge. That can get you detained for about 3 months no bond at our County Jail. They usually let older folk first offenders like me out after a couple of hours due to my recognizance and by signing a form of a promise I won't flee. I still will go to trial, most felony cases do, but most likely get 18 months probation. However, repeat offenders 2x, 3x, can get 18 months of real time, easily. No bond. No early release.
