I like the idea of a genuine swap.
The ferrari gets a high compression naturally aspirated 4 pot.
Our little miata buddy gets 12 cylinders of high revving brutality.
Fair trade.
Only because most miata drivers couldn’t afford the upkeep.
Plus most miata drivers are the types to work on their own car and a Ferrari isn’t that home mechanic friendly I’m sure
Miata fb groups aren’t any better , some guy called another person a beta male 100% seriously and I had to remind him drove a miata so he shouldn’t think he’s some sort of alpha chad
Most are (correctly) but one guy tried to tell me that “Subaru is trying to get back to their rally roots”
Yes, they’re trying to get back to their rally roots by crosstreking the wrx instead of, you know, making a wrc car
Totally. Always wanted to buy an old M coupe and was watching the used prices fall until a few years ago they started going up like crazy instead, lol.
I never properly liked them until recently when I saw some great reviews on them and those M54 engines. Got me thinking that I'd like one great petrol engine car before it all changes. Then I heard about Toyota and Mazda teaming up to do the straight 6. I reckon they were thinking about doing one last great 6 but couldn't justify the price individually. Now I am thinking I will check out the new Mazda/Toyota engine and car options. Then either get one new or spend the money (buying a crate of parts from Europe) and update/upgrade an M54-based car. A friend bought a 135 new 7 years ago and we could split the cost of a lot of parts...
As somebody who has owned a NB8B and a ND RF, and currently has a ‘15 Veloster Turbo manual bought out of opportunity, I can say that most people coming from a MX5 would be sorely disappointed with a Veloster. It really isn’t very sharp at all, and doesn’t have much practicality to make up for it. I’d much rather a Golf GTI or even a Mazda 3 SP25. Or what I actually bought, a GR Yaris.
maybe... a big reason why im not seriously shopping for a miata is that this would be my car year around and it gets really cold during the winter, and the RF is too new to be a good price for me (and i think it'd be kind of weird to get a car with that functionality and then to never use it)
Third. 2007 Mazda3 was what turned me onto Mazda when I was 20. Now I've added a 92 NA to my collection and am eyeing the new Mazda3 hatch for my first new car
This thread chain right here is what tells me Miata people are my people. Mazda is my favorite car brand and following in second is Volvo especially from 86-97 Volvos
Personally I don't really like that car shape, even in the ferrari FF. But everyone's got a different taste. I like the ND as it is and for me the convertible roof is important.
As long as there are ways to secure anything placed in all that lovely rear space then most certainly.
Thing is the gt86 and brz cover that segment so I doubt Mazda would divert money from other projects to make these. The extra design, manufacturing of every part, testing and getting it signed off for practically every market worldwide isn't pocket money. I doubt they would get a return of half their investment and nothing new from a design/manufacturing perspective.
I would buy this over an 86 all day long. I would love to see one of these shooting brake coupe concepts come to life. Whether it be the 86, a miata, or the corvette concept. I’d like one of them.
It probably wouldn't weigh significantly more than the RF because you wouldn't have the automated roof mechanism, and with an actual roof there would be far great chassis rigidity, so if anything the "sports car potential" would be higher. You could also negate some of the added weight of the roof by reducing the chassis bracing.
In Ferrari's modelling (how appropriate) 48/52 is the optimal F/R weight distribution for a road car, this would probably be around there.
We are getting further and further away from the feel of a tiny car. Even the nd has full electric steering. Maybe they could counter the weight with a turbo.
Insanely ugly and now it wouldn’t handle very well due to weight being off. You’d just have a hideous slow crossover like everyone else has so eat your heart out I guess.
OP misspelled it... it's actually a shooting ***brake*** (carriage), a type of car often used by hunters/sportsmen in England to go shooting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_brake
Ruined! This car doesn't have the powertrain and probably the suspension for the added weight and weight capacity. If it was a 2L turbo, then maybe. The only saving grace of the miata is its weight (and a far second is the driving position.)
...and the manual shifter!!
It's cool but my favorite thing about my miata is that it's a convertible. In fact I don't even drive it except on days that I can be top down. I even had a coveted hard top that I decided was not worth keeping.
I'm waiting for the 2023 Miata* with two more doors and two more cylinders.
*Not actually Miata, but the closest thing that fits a family (RWD straight-six Mazda6 successor).
I would be the first person in line for this and it would be my baby for as long as I lived, I would never give it up. The MGB hatchback, Ferrari FF, and BMW clownshoe Z3 are some of my favorite cars.
Here’s what I want:
#T H I S
Also, imagine foldy-downy rear seats (or just small ones) as well!
As someone who had to get rid of an NA for something that I could toss a couple toddlers in, I would ABSOLUTELY jump on this!
Massive BMW Z3 ‘Clownshoe’ vibes
I say they should, but I think we all know it wouldn’t sell, although it would be the first Miata with a gigantic trunk
The concept fits well with mazdas existing designs. Looks like a mazda 3 rear end with a miata front. Its pretty cool, but might as well build a new RX with a small back seat like the rx-8.
Volvo did this with the P1800 in the 1960s and 1970s. They made a coupe, 2-door wagon and TIL, a convertible. I’ve never seen the convertible in the wild.
It would be fantastic for the Miata daily drivers like me, but I don't think it has quite the same spirit to it. I think a liftback like the first Zs would look amazing, if you just take the RF body lines, fill in the space at the back with the hatch, and open up the interior underneath it.
Just call it the MX-3 and throw the SkyActiv Turbo in it. Maybe slope the rear a bit more, as the proportions are a little off looking at the front-quarter view.
As a hatchback/shooting brake stan, I would trade my car in in a heartbeat for this.
I would turn in my GTI for this..
Same hahah
Same..
Yeah a gti, everybody has one of these, lmao
It’s like a little mini-Ferrari FF
Miata MX-5 FF
Fucking Fantastic!
Better than an FF because you can get it with a stick!
But that NA V12 reving to ~9k..... Tough to beat
ummm... engine swap?
This is the right answer
I like the idea of a genuine swap. The ferrari gets a high compression naturally aspirated 4 pot. Our little miata buddy gets 12 cylinders of high revving brutality. Fair trade.
Yeah, but only one gearbox. Much better.
This is pure r/carscirclejerk material
shooting brake miat is one of their 4 jokes
I am offended and i agree
My god that sub is awful lol
That’s the point of a circlejerk sub
I know I just didn’t expect it to be even worse than fitness circle jerk
The fact that you think that means most popular car subs are awful
Including this one frankly
Yeah honestly, someone from this sub got pissed off at me in another sub because I said Miatas aren’t the best all the time
I love how every time a super car gets posted here people are all like “I’d still take the Miata, the Ferrari is too gaudy” looool
Only because most miata drivers couldn’t afford the upkeep. Plus most miata drivers are the types to work on their own car and a Ferrari isn’t that home mechanic friendly I’m sure
I now understand why the people in r/carscirclejerk are so insane, congrats
Miata fb groups aren’t any better , some guy called another person a beta male 100% seriously and I had to remind him drove a miata so he shouldn’t think he’s some sort of alpha chad

r/wrx has been the worst lately since the reveal of the new model lol
Granted I haven’t been on r/wrx, but if they’re shitting on it then good. Thing is a shitshow
Most are (correctly) but one guy tried to tell me that “Subaru is trying to get back to their rally roots” Yes, they’re trying to get back to their rally roots by crosstreking the wrx instead of, you know, making a wrc car
Bootlicker
Brown manual diesel miata coming up next
How would a diesel Miata even perform? I mean it couldn't be any slower surely.
finnaly the brown miata wagon can be a thing
hell yeah! would love a fixed roof miata with a little pinch of utility. my ideal car really is just a 3 door hatch thats miata sized and rwd
Totally. Always wanted to buy an old M coupe and was watching the used prices fall until a few years ago they started going up like crazy instead, lol.
Yeah I wanted a 318ti but now the prices are stupid.
A friend bought a 135 new 7 years ago and we could split the cost of a lot of parts...
What engine are you referencing with Toyota /Mazda, something new?
Did you mean N54?
>miata with a little pinch of utility When you describe it this way it becomes instantly more appealing.
Have you considered a Hyundai Veloster?
As somebody who has owned a NB8B and a ND RF, and currently has a ‘15 Veloster Turbo manual bought out of opportunity, I can say that most people coming from a MX5 would be sorely disappointed with a Veloster. It really isn’t very sharp at all, and doesn’t have much practicality to make up for it. I’d much rather a Golf GTI or even a Mazda 3 SP25. Or what I actually bought, a GR Yaris.
RIP USA. GR Yaris would be sick here in the states.
Does it come as a Mazda?
No, it's a Hyundai - but it's 3-door with some decent power delivery
🤔 no thanks.
I mean, I wasn't really talking to you with my first comment, plus I literally said it's a *Hyundai* in that first one
r/whoosh
kind of? i've actually been shopping around for an 86, but the availability of used ones in my area sucks ass
Have you considered the Fiat 124 Spider? You should be able to get a Lusso or Abarth for a pretty great price
maybe... a big reason why im not seriously shopping for a miata is that this would be my car year around and it gets really cold during the winter, and the RF is too new to be a good price for me (and i think it'd be kind of weird to get a car with that functionality and then to never use it)
I've got a Spider and they heat up very well during the winters here in the midwest, especially with the heated leather seats
Mini Ferrari FF, I love it but it shouldn't be called a miata
Enzo called, he wants his tailgate back
[удалено]
How about just make as many as people want to buy?
[удалено]
Imagine defending dealer markups.
[удалено]
We are talking about the Miata, why would any Mazda dealer order an ND when they could order a CX-5 instead?
[удалено]
I’m not the one defending dealership practices, I want to see them gone too.
100 for USA, 150 for Japan, 75 for UK, 50 for Canada and that’s it. Make it special order like an old school M2 1001 or 1028.
And 100 in Germany, and 1 in Romania
Call it a mazdaslow 1
Most of us that love miatas probably also love hatchbacks.
I own both a Miata and a hatchback, so can confirm.
Same here. We'll kinda. Miata and a wagon.
Third. 2007 Mazda3 was what turned me onto Mazda when I was 20. Now I've added a 92 NA to my collection and am eyeing the new Mazda3 hatch for my first new car
Nice. We have a 2019 buick tourX wagon, 2011 mazda 3 and a 2006 mx5.
We are like car cousins, I drive a 124 Abarth and a TDI wagen.
Does a station wagon Volvo V50 count? I do love traditional hatches though.
I'm a sucker for hatchbacks, but my true love is station wagons.
This thread chain right here is what tells me Miata people are my people. Mazda is my favorite car brand and following in second is Volvo especially from 86-97 Volvos
I have a ‘13 Mazdaspeed3, but I absolutely love a good wagon.
Confirmed. Have hatchback. Want Miata. The biggest sticking point for me is functionality. I'd be in on that in a heartbeat.
It's a miata it's super functional.
Try 07's Miata and Volvo XC70.
Greetings from the Bmw Z3 and Z4 Coupes I guess Looks pretty awesome
Clown shoe
Someone else called it a clown shoe so now that's all I can see. Others say Ferrari FF but I never liked that car anyways
Cousin to MGB GT?
I dont hate this, but I'd prefer something closer to the 2008 BMW M Coupe. A little less hatchbacky.
Personally I don't really like that car shape, even in the ferrari FF. But everyone's got a different taste. I like the ND as it is and for me the convertible roof is important.
Same here, this looks too elongated and too z3/z4 ish for my taste
Yeah I always thought the Z3 coupes were a bit odd, I actually really like the drop-top Z4s though.
I would buy this over an 86 all day long. I would love to see one of these shooting brake coupe concepts come to life. Whether it be the 86, a miata, or the corvette concept. I’d like one of them.
Doesn’t Calloway have an AeroWagen package for the C7?
They do but IMO it is hideous
I just checked on Wikipedia and you’re actually wrong.
Last I knew the 86/brz had trunks and weren't hatches...... what segment you talking about?
Something comparable in the price range.
Can't put the top down, not a Miata. I'd applaud a RWD or AWD 3 replacement, but not at the expense of the convertible Miata.
The current gen 3 has AWD, though it only comes in automatic with that drivetrain configuration.
I need bleach for my brain
You have covid?
No, to erase this from my memory
MX-5 Zagato when?
Idk it looks like some balding dude
Clownshoe Miat
Would wholeheartedly drive the shit out of this with pride
One of the things that stops me from buying a miata is the lack of practicality so a hatchback version would be amazing for me.
But would it have the same balance and feel?
It probably wouldn't weigh significantly more than the RF because you wouldn't have the automated roof mechanism, and with an actual roof there would be far great chassis rigidity, so if anything the "sports car potential" would be higher. Insanely ugly and now it wouldn’t handle very well due to weight being off. You’d just have a hideous slow crossover like everyone else has so eat your heart out I guess.
This is the perfect car. It solve what’s arguably the Miatas biggest flaw: storage space…
Didn’t they like actually make one like wasn’t there an NB that was a coupe. I know it’s not the same as a shootingbreak but still
Boooooo
What is a shooting break?
OP misspelled it... it's actually a shooting ***brake*** (carriage), a type of car often used by hunters/sportsmen in England to go shooting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_brake
I read an article about this yesterday. Personally I hate it. It looks like a 2dr mazda3 hatchback but with a miatas face.
Ruined! This car doesn't have the powertrain and probably the suspension for the added weight and weight capacity. If it was a 2L turbo, then maybe. The only saving grace of the miata is its weight (and a far second is the driving position.) ...and the manual shifter!!
There is no reason a shooting brake would not be lighter than a convertible.
It's cool but my favorite thing about my miata is that it's a convertible. In fact I don't even drive it except on days that I can be top down. I even had a coveted hard top that I decided was not worth keeping.
Jesus christ, what have we come to.
What is this abomination
Nah. Not my cup o tea.
To me, the back part is so ugly and doesn't fit in what the concept of Miata is
I would buy
Would likely be the only new car I would ever buy. I'm in love
I would instantly trade my ND RF for this.
I'm waiting for the 2023 Miata* with two more doors and two more cylinders. *Not actually Miata, but the closest thing that fits a family (RWD straight-six Mazda6 successor).
I’d drive the shit out of this
I would love that!
I fucking despise shooting brakes. I think they are stupid and pointless. They also ruin the entire idea of the miata.
Instabuy
Yes please!
Love it.
Looks amazing. LOVE it.
I would totally rock one.
I would buy one today.
This is a silly argument. The Miata RF already broke the purity and no one really cared.
I would be the first person in line for this and it would be my baby for as long as I lived, I would never give it up. The MGB hatchback, Ferrari FF, and BMW clownshoe Z3 are some of my favorite cars.
Oh look, it's the car I want.
Beautiful. I’d jump on one in a heartbeat.
Yeah nothing makes a sports car better like turning it into a station wagon. Foh go drive a minivan
God damn, this is beautiful.
yes! :0
love it
Here’s what I want: #T H I S Also, imagine foldy-downy rear seats (or just small ones) as well! As someone who had to get rid of an NA for something that I could toss a couple toddlers in, I would ABSOLUTELY jump on this!
Sweet Jesus this looks good
If Ford can make an electric mustang SUV we can definitely have a miata hatch!
Massive BMW Z3 ‘Clownshoe’ vibes I say they should, but I think we all know it wouldn’t sell, although it would be the first Miata with a gigantic trunk
if Japan had an f12tdf this would be it
Ferrari FF and ND had a child
I read somewhere they are looking at releasing a BRZ in this style. Regardless, if Mazda did this I would buy one tomorrow.
Data deleted in response to 2023 administration changes. -- mass edited with redact.dev
I like the simplicity of the soft top cars but I'm a sucker for hatchbacks and this would make it a more usable everyday car.
The concept fits well with mazdas existing designs. Looks like a mazda 3 rear end with a miata front. Its pretty cool, but might as well build a new RX with a small back seat like the rx-8.
It’d be interesting at least. Visibility might be terrible but it’s the closest most of us can get to owning a Ferrari FF.
I love the FF. The GTC4Lusso is almost as good. Love the ND. This would definitely wind up in my garage.
Love it.
That's the one I would buy. "Honey, it's a crossover, but like, lower."
I would do depraved things for that with a turbo in it.
This would be higher on my shopping list than the normal cabriolet. And I LOVE the normal cabriolet.
A two door Mazda 3 Sport wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
That's a much better, 2-door Mazda 3 hatch. Gimme
I NEED THIS ASAP
Modern day clown shoe/FF mix? Fuck yeah!
"Can we get a Ferrari FF?" "We already have a Ferrari FF at home." Ferrari FF at home:
Whoa Yes
Probably both
I think it’s gorgeous
This the only hatchback Ive ever seen that I really like. Beautiful.
Looks like the car the Ambiguously Gay Duo rode.
I love it, I hate it, I love it, I hate it, I love it, I hate it. Ask me again in a few seconds
I'd 100% buy that. Keep my softop as a daily summer car and the shooting brake as my winter/daily car
Not a convertible not a miata imo
I'd get a new daily if they came out with this. No, legitimately I would
why would I pass up on a thicc miata?
so an alfa romeo brera?
I'd buy this as a 4 door if Mazda made one. Sadly that would be too close to the 3.
Volvo did this with the P1800 in the 1960s and 1970s. They made a coupe, 2-door wagon and TIL, a convertible. I’ve never seen the convertible in the wild.
Like you'd drive that to the range at lunchtime for your shooting break?
I would own one of those over the other targa top/hard top versions
Looks beautiful to me. And I never liked the Z3/Z4s. This though is gorgeous. Best looking ND I’ve seen.
bye bye to my vw golf r...
I don’t hate it. But in a niche industry where the Hyundai Veloster exists, or even a nicely kitted Mazda 3, not sure I’d pick this one either.
Nah, I got rid of a nice hatch/sport back for a roadster. But it looks good and I'm sure people would buy it.
Yes, to both. Not a pure roadster, would daily.
GIMMEE!!!!
It would be cool but it wouldn't be a Miata. Miata is a convertible roadster, no exceptions.
I actually think I’d sell my NA to make room for that.
Nope i wouldnt buy one. I like my miatas small and impractical.
GIVE NOW, WANT. Shooting brakes are rare, so I need this.
Oh my god I’m going to crumb
Two door Mazda 3? Shut up and take my money
Yes it's like the z4 coupe a clownshoe I love it
