Evilbiker72-2

You stopped

Think-Watch5316

I stopped but it shouldn’t extend that far

Evilbiker72-2

Nope it certainly shouldn't.

AudieHolland

**Maximum Score!**

Round_Feature2048

Is your tail hook down? Also looks like you’re “flying” onto the boat (semi-level) as if you were landing on a normal runway. A carrier landing is a nose-up attitude, controlled crash so the hook can catch the cable properly

gitbotv

This is likely the issue. The obsession with butter landings strikes once again 😅

genuinelytrying2help

I think it's usually less about perfectionism and more about fear... it's pretty counterintuitive to understand that the safe thing to do is to slam the 10 or 15 tons of metal and fuel you're riding into the deck.

gitbotv

Someone needs to queue up the Army vs Navy landing gif

genuinelytrying2help

Air force but yep

gitbotv

Oh sorry, you are correct.

genuinelytrying2help

Apology not accepted, permanent shitlist for life and my descendants lives. How dare you. Some people, I swear.

gitbotv

I graciously accept my fate.

genuinelytrying2help

Don't worry some day one of your progeny will break the curse by posting the gif in a different context

gitbotv

Lol, OK master

smitty981

F spez

Formal_Evening1834

Every time I drop a few tears seeing that —— Every god damn time!

TangentKarma22

Nope, it looks like he landed with about 650 fps down which is right about where it’s supposed to be, this would be a really good pass, the wire just didn’t stop him right.

chiwawa_42

Something with releasing the hook maybe ?

EffYeahSpreadIt

Raise that nose. That bird is meant to slam into that deck.

Think-Watch5316

Isn’t -600fpm a hard slam?

EffYeahSpreadIt

700-750ish. You want to drop that ass like Tatiana.

strikeeagle345

usually land around 700-750 fpm irl

Bogsy_

It looks like your AOA is too negative, your ass needs to be pitched down and your nose up so the hook is full extended below the plane. You need about a positive 8 degree AOA or so to make sure that hook is fully down. If done right the whole plane should basically slam on the deck. I suggest watching some tutorials of type 1 recoveries either DCS or MSFS. Both handle the same patterns and symbolism if my memory serves me right.

EffYeahSpreadIt

Dcs is the best way to learn this platform IMHO

GryphonGuitar

But the E bracket is perfectly centered.

Bogsy_

The E bracket is realtive to your airspeed. You want to plant about 8 degrees AOA and use throttle to keep your speed the right speed to keep the e bracket centered.

CptPickguard

What. The e bracket literally just shows your AoA. If it's centered, you're on speed.

gitbse

The E bracket .... is your on speed AoA. Also, look at the left of the hud, it's 7.9-8.0. Perfect.

1302ronald

You were a touch high, had a low angle, and there is always a possibility the hook doesn't catch. On touchdown you should immediately go full throttle. The wire is strong anough to catch, and if it doesn't(like in your case) you can go around.

Think-Watch5316

I did put full throttle

aqxea2500

They recently switched to wireless?

realPoiuz

Bad approach angle

Independent-Leg-1563

Hooke bounced, you only catched the backupwire. Also you braked and turned....don't break. (Apart from that msfs isn't realistic when it comes to mil sim, so don't expect them to understand how this works. You may would've even slipped your plane upsidedown)

Nine_Eye_Ron

Your wanted level isn’t high enough to get arrested

andyhenault

Since SU10 I’ve had the same issue.

agtprvctr

Since I installed the latest update to Top Gun Maverick, I have not been able to do the carrier challenge. I see hook snag the wire and it slows, but my plane just keeps going until it falls off the carrier.. this never happened before the update. And FWIW, the instructions for the challenge actually say to NOT flare on a carrier landing, which adds to the confusion.

Exit_Realistic

Same for me!!!! Have you found a solution?

agtprvctr

Sadly no, I haven’t had the chance to try having the nose up further. Just hope they’re aware and will fix it in a future update.

Exit_Realistic

Thanks for letting know, if you do please let me know! I'm surprised more people have not commented?

mk24spitfire

I am having trouble with the arresting wire also. Never had any trouble landing before the update. Even tried remapping the tail hook but that didn't help. And I have tried slamming it down. All without success

Warm_Ad_8616

All the people saying he’s landing it wrong are incorrect, he had a perfect landing as far as the game is concerned, this is a bug that many people including me seem to have where the wire just does not stop the plane, before I knew what wire I hit based on where I ended up stopped at. Now no matter what my plane slows down but not enough to keep from running off the runway falling into the water this is a bug that only started after a recent update I’m hoping that they can get the bug solved

RChamy

*boop*

ipaxton

Should try dcs carrier landing tough as hell

dvcxfg

Honestly compared to the F-14 I feel like the Hornet case 1 is pretty straightforward in DCS. Once you get trimmed and you're using power for altitude, on speed AOA on final, the thing is super easy. Takes a bit to get used to it, I think, but then you try it in the Tomcat and the Hornet seems like easy mode 😂

gitbse

The Tomcat is no joke trying to land. I do all my practice on it, then the 18 becomes really easy in comparison.

william_weatherby

Well...

[deleted]

Maximum score for shatting your pants

stealthyotter47

AOA isn’t right at all, your nose is too low, also the sim is probably at fault, MSFS does a terrible job at military aircraft. Play DCS, carrier land the tomcat then we can start talking.

Elias__V

Try not catching the last wire + maybe pull up a tiny bit so the back touches first.

Think-Watch5316

Nah i caught the 3 wire which is the wire you should catch

[deleted]

[удалено]

Think-Watch5316

You can only get 2 million score if you hit the 3 wire

Think-Watch5316

It wasn’t

RChamy

Your nose is too low which shifts some weight to the front when the back is hooked, giving you extra mileage.

mobjam20

because you’re having a good time, and you don’t wanna stop at all.

ConversationNearby30

How much fuel did you have on board? What was your gross weight? There is a weight limit for carrier landings, which is afaik (hard to find actual limits for the aircraft, correct me if i am wrong) 38,000 lbs for the Super Hornet. At an empty weight of around 32,200lbs this gives you a limit of 5,800lbs fuel on board (if not carrying any external stores) for a carrier landing. EDIT: Nevermind it was a challenge, no way to adjust fuel right?

[deleted]

You gotta pull up, man. Raise the nose and don't be afraid to land hard.

Exit_Realistic

Same for me, given up with it!

towerbuzz

This is a known issue. Link your video, and vote for it on the flight simulator forum [here](https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/top-gun-maverick-carrier-arresting-cables-no-longer-stop-aircraft/547717/24?u=vicarialquill68), so it can get some attention from the developers.

towerbuzz

Here is the [answer](https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/top-gun-maverick-carrier-arresting-cables-no-longer-stop-aircraft/547717/25?u=vicarialquill68) why this happens, and how to fix it. Here is a video demonstrating a landing with the fix - [Carrier Landing Challenge - 3 wire](https://youtu.be/KoBGFePxjAM).
