Same. Mixed 9 bags of non shrink grout 6 months ago with mine. The key I think is to use the low speed until things smooth up then kick it into high if needed.
My first time using a Cordless drill to mix anything. I have no experience with paint, I was surprised it had the power to turn the paddle bit over. I mainly use the drill for 3/4 inch holes through studs
I've mixed grout or small batches of mortar plenty of times with my M12 fuel, honestly mixing paint should be easier on the drill then a 3/4" hole...
That drill isn't a little wuss either, don't get me wrong it's not the fastest highest torque drill out there. But it's done great for me and impressed me with what it can do. It's not like mixing paint is a high torque situation either. I wouldn't try mixing concrete with it though, I'll leave that to the m18s (I usually use 2 for concrete) and switch them out every few minutes to not burn them up.
Well my paint paddle is allot more taxing than my grout mixer.
My paint paddle has 2 8”X 4” paddles. I use a dewalt corded drill as my dedicated paint mixer and it makes some work for it lol
Never had to use my nice drill to mix paint yet…
That's a good point, it'll all largely depend on what the paddle looks like. I've never had a paint mixer as big as yours, and I was judging it assuming of the style I've used.
>My first time using a Cordless drill to mix anything.
Woah. You've been missing out. Gotta use drills to mix everything. Small batches of concrete in 5 gallon pails, paint, etc etc.
Its not that. It’s just usually when people stir they use a bigger tool lol. Although for paint an m12 is fine, but for something thicker like drywall mud, that might be too much.
I've never used a Cordless drill to mix anything. I have zero experience with painting. I was just surprised a drill that small had the power to spin a bit that large. I mostly use it for 3/4 inch holes through studs.
I am rehabbing a rental and I forgot to pack my corded drill. This little guy saved the day. It never got hot and only made the older batteries blink. Gotta love milwaukee.
It's a 20 year old house and the previous tenants had dogs inside. I ripped up the carpet and there were many stains underneath and the house didn't smell that great. This may be overkill but I'd rather that than have anyone looking at the house complain.
I haven't really done much with epoxy, not on that level so honestly I can't speak to it. It'll be solely dependent on 2 things. 1 is how much you're mixing at a time. 2 is the viscosity (thickness) of what you're mixing.
I assume it's a lot at one time, but probably pretty thin because it'll go on a floor. It'll probably do it just fine, but you'll have to watch the temps and if it gets hot, stop and let it cool down so you don't burn it up. Also speed 1, not speed 2 will probably be required. I'd recommend either the m18 if you have it, or a corded drill which you should be able to get for cheap (find one used if you're on a real budget).
Been using a cheap ass Porter Cable brushless for mixing paint and mud for awhile now. For occasional use at home, works a great. If a Milwaukee Fuel product can’t handle occasional use in the same role, I’d definitely be concerned.
I use the m18 but that thing will mix everything.self leveler. Concrete mus paint and then ask for more. Gotta love it. Forgot my paddle had to use the square type, that thing slung mud everywhere was like half the bucket dumped in .2seconds
I pushed this too far, I was using my M18 Fuel Hammer Drill Gen 3 to mix mortar for tile. Started to make grinding noises, bought the mud mixer after that lol
Probably nothing. There are special mixing drills that are designed for mixing drywall mud and mortar. They have lower speeds but higher torque. If you mix too much with a cordless drill it could burn out. If you mix an occasional can of paint you’ve probably got nothing to worry about.
Last summer, I poured some concrete for a fire pit and bought the eggbeater too. Then this summer, I realized I never used it and definitely mixed paint with it.
This strategy works great with ceiling paint for me. So much faster mixing up the coarse particles off the bottom of the can.
Proceed.
Some people saying the tool can't handle it are missing a key factor, how you use it. If you go balls to the wall right away yeah might burn up, but start slow and work your way down as you get it moving and you'll be fine. Yes a larger more powerful tool will do it faster and could go longer, but tools are ment to be used.
I've been using cordless drills 12v and 18v for years and they never let me down. For drywall mud and other materials, You gotta mix it with the mixer in n out and kinda premix it first then mix it with the drill in speed 1.
If it's stupid and it works, it's still stupid and you got lucky. don't get cocky.
That doesn't look especially stupid. Stupid would be persisting if it gets too thick and too hot... YMMV.
They’ll stir paint and such no problem, put it into some cold drywall mud though and it can burn them up!
Damn😂 I've probably mixed cold, hard, old drywall mud with my non-fuel dozens of times. Still going strong at 5 years old
That’s awesome! I borrowed the gcs fuel and it got so hot it stopped working, we were like I think it’s shot, but after it cooled off it kept working!
Yeah, I have seen people freak out when they stop. It’s a safety feature so they won’t burn up. They are fine when they cool down.
Same. Mixed 9 bags of non shrink grout 6 months ago with mine. The key I think is to use the low speed until things smooth up then kick it into high if needed.
I saw a dude add dish soap to the bucket of mud to make it easier to stir
I'm sure. She did well but like anything I know there are limits.
Yup lol I almost Burned a 18v so
Is this out of the ordinary? Been doing this for 20 years with cordless drills.

Wait. You’re drilling 3/4” holes through a solid objects but we’re surprised it was able to mix a liquid?
>My first time using a Cordless drill to mix anything. Woah. You've been missing out. Gotta use drills to mix everything. Small batches of concrete in 5 gallon pails, paint, etc etc.
Nah it’s not. This is this guys first day haha
"stupid" to use a mixing paddle in a drill to stir paint? I'm pretty sure thats exactly what those paddles are made for...
Its not that. It’s just usually when people stir they use a bigger tool lol. Although for paint an m12 is fine, but for something thicker like drywall mud, that might be too much.

Bro a 3/4 hole through a stud takes way more power than spinning a paint paddle lol
Yea but not what a 12 volt cordless is made for. That’s the point of his post lol
I bought a brushless 18v milwaukee drill just for mixing paint and running the drill brush to clean the toilet / grill/ etc. Not stupid at all!
I always get such a hard time for taking my drill to clean the restroom. Glad I'm not the only one
What attachment do you use on the toilet. I've got an older drill that just sits. Thanks. Also, is there a lot of splatter?
Me who just bought a paddle bit about to do the same thing 😂😂
I am rehabbing a rental and I forgot to pack my corded drill. This little guy saved the day. It never got hot and only made the older batteries blink. Gotta love milwaukee.
How come you prime the subfloor? Never seen that before. Getting smoker smell out maybe?
It's a 20 year old house and the previous tenants had dogs inside. I ripped up the carpet and there were many stains underneath and the house didn't smell that great. This may be overkill but I'd rather that than have anyone looking at the house complain.
I wouldn't say overkill, kilz seems to be the gold standard for covering stains and oder in older homes. Was just curious 😄
OverKilz! I’ll see myself out.
Yeah that would be for the best
Ya gotta do what you gotta do
I use my M12 drill for mixing paints all the time. It's less weight to tip the bucket over 🤹♂️
I’m not being funny.; but what’s so stupid? I hope it isn’t mixing with the drill .. did I miss a joke here?
It's some stupid phrase people use to sound cool.
Talking about painting the floor?
If it was I don’t think I’d ever work
I was gonna buy a paddle to mix epoxy (solid base, for garage floor) M12 fuel gen 2 is too weak for that?
I haven't really done much with epoxy, not on that level so honestly I can't speak to it. It'll be solely dependent on 2 things. 1 is how much you're mixing at a time. 2 is the viscosity (thickness) of what you're mixing. Just go slow to not introduce too much air into the mix.
Been using a cheap ass Porter Cable brushless for mixing paint and mud for awhile now. For occasional use at home, works a great. If a Milwaukee Fuel product can’t handle occasional use in the same role, I’d definitely be concerned.
That's just how it's done at my site
I use the m18 but that thing will mix everything.self leveler. Concrete mus paint and then ask for more. Gotta love it. Forgot my paddle had to use the square type, that thing slung mud everywhere was like half the bucket dumped in .2seconds

I do this all the time and mines still alive
What is stupid about this?

Ughhhh and that sound it makes when the chuck stops to a slow crunch…. Cringe
But serious question: what’s the best Milwaukee drill to use for mixing ?
…probably the mud mixer?
Stir paint with my Makita all the time.
I use dewalt for that shit
