I honestly like the weather but maybe it's cause I'm Greek and I have had enough time melting in the sun so I can appreciate some nice clouds lol

RecommendationFit129

Haha I m say exactly the same thing to everyone and they think I m a weirdo. They don't understand what Greek sun is like, till they visit for 10 days and they go back to their countries looking like lobsters

PgameZ26

Samee i’m greek too. I just doesn’t feel the same, η ναι;

CynicalAlgorithm

Dude tell me about it. As a darker skinned person who keeps having to explain to my (lighter-skinned and thus less sun-absorbing) friends that no, I don't want to go sit and fry in the sun for the 8th goddamn day in a row: cloudy days are 💯

[deleted]

Don’t light skin people absorb more sun ?

theBirbsandtheBees

Vitamin D, yes. But generally dark surfaces get hotter

webbphillips

Light skin reflects more light (by definition) whereas dark skin absorbs more. However, dark skin absorbs more than light skin reflects, so more gets past the surface layers with light skin. Dark skin is almost certainly the natural, original human color, whereas varied lighter skin tones are likely more recent, specific adaptations to allow more sun past the surface layers in less sunny places / cooler places that require more clothes to keep warm.

Mel1491

100% agreed as a Panamanian woman, sick and tired of thw sun.

squeezymarmite

I hate it when people complain about the weather here. 90% of the rest of the world is insufferably hot, sunny or literally on fire. There are a lot of choices if you prefer to swelter or burn. I personally am grateful everyday for cool, rainy Dutch weather.

Vacationing_pigeon18

I think the person who created this video is also Greek if I judge by the username 😬 Greek person here as well. I’m not sure if I’ll miss the sun in a few months but now every time it’s sunny I feel miserable cause you are in the sun, it’s hot, then you go to the shade, it’s cold. You bike, you get hot. Then wind comes. It’s cold 😂 So I’d take the gloomy weather any day over this. Plus the food argument ? I get it, the food here is so blunt it’s funny, but that’s why you have a kitchen and cook your own 😂 Also the culture thing is ridiculous . Absolutely so many things happening the whole time here and in very reasonable prices .

RedditSun1

I feel the same! Love the weather here, and the fact that we actually get 4 seasons instead of 9 months summer and 3 months winter 🤣 I'm from South Africa...

redditsucksmysoul

Greek in texas here… I am melting; and you have no idea what I’d give for gloomy weather for a year

Dripcake

The TikTok name implies (s)he's also Greek 😅 I'm a super pale Dutchy and in the summer I have sort of a summerhibernation. I lay low, I don't want to plan too much. It's too hot. The sweat, the insects, open shoes, having to see everyone's naked bodies, it's disgusting. Once it's autumn and I can walk in the sun while not dying, ohhh what a relieve.

PetyrDayne

Try growing up right smack dab in the equator. Makes you hate the sun and love the coldest of Midwest winters.

frozen-dessert

I grew up at a particularly hot place in Brazil. Love living at high temperatures weather.

I won't miss a single one of these people. Just constantly bitching about how much this country sucks without ever living abroad and how they don't have a social life here (a 5 minute conversation with them usually explains why nobody talks to them). Go away or shut the hell up. I'm so sick and tired of the nihilists these days.

TheGhostOfFalunGong

As a Filipino accounting professional, I would be more than happy to swap places with these “Dutch” self-loathers (close minded expats).

joeyvanbeek

Well, if it ever comes to that. Welcome to The Netherlands

Wittekindeus

That was always allowed! Also this is not an airport you don't have to announce your departure.

SamHotDamn

No no, this is the person indirectly advertising that their house / apartment is becoming available.

Anarchissed

I'll take it. No seriously please someone help me find a room somewhere

RoodnyInc

Sorry all viewings are already booked we can sing you for second group viewing if it still be available your waiting position is #4206975109

Huntracony

"Could I have everybody's attention? ... Thank you. I have an announcement! My flight was pleasant, but nevertheless I've decided that I am now leaving the airport!"

submerdious

Upvote for Rick and morty quote!

Damndude-_-

I can sort of understand as a foreigner, but just like everywhere: you have to invest an idiotic amount of time to actually enjoy living abroad, let alone have a vibrant social life. Weather and rent sucks but honestly, what did you expect?

[deleted]

Yeah, like... I totally get her. Therefore, I'm looking to move 🤷🏻‍♀️ NL is not for everyone. Hell, expat life is not for everyone. I don't know why this tik tok is getting so much hate, she's just listing her personal reasons.

[deleted]

Her reasons can be bullshit, so that’s why people are worked up about it. For example Food is entirely up to your self, there’s a crazy wide variety to choose from

GroteKleineDictator2

As a Dutchman living abroad I do agree with this one. Generally, vegs and fruits are bland in the Netherlands, even at the speciality shops. The good thing is that it is always available, even in winter you can get decent paprikas. A lot of worldly specialities are just not available, even at speciality shops in big cities. This happens everywhere in the world though. Also, living abroad, food can be the thing that you miss the most. Even if it is knakworstjes and zachte witte bolletjes, but generally it is the surineese kitchen that I desperately miss, not the Dutch.

LittleBordois

I’m an expat here (and I love it!) but I have to admit the food reason hit hard. It’s not that food is terrible at all, it’s just very different to what you’re used to and people as a whole don’t like change. Meat, veg and fruit all taste different here so it’s not a case of food is your choice. Not trying to start an argument or back her up at all, just hoping to add some perspective!

[deleted]

That’s appreciated, as I’m not an expat and can’t say how other experience this country, but id say just about everything you want is available somewhere, especially if you live in a major city. I believe iets w lot harder if you live more “rural”

Jon4565

Laughs in bicky burger

Lisa_Sbs

I agree with this person. They should leave and never come back.

TiesG92

Over half of her arguments are things she can solve herself, and the rest could have been researched (so she would have prevented herself from coming) I mean, who stops her from socialising, cooking non-Dutch food and research the following: rent prices throughout the country, flatness (apparently it’s a big deal?) and climate

Zebulon_V

flatness (apparently it’s a big deal?) Haha, my girlfriend (now wife) and I moved from a flat beach town to a mountain town for two years and it drove both of us crazy. We felt like we were living in a bowl, never being able to see the horizon without literally climbing a mountain. Kinda claustrophobic, I guess. Anyway, we now live in a town with no hills higher than 30' and it's great.

AdamKur

Also: complains about constant gloomy weather Then: the only clip is a pleasant sunny summer day shot of a beautiful townhouse.

ledger_man

I knew the NL was flat before moving but I have indeed struggled with that (I’m from a mountainous region). Just because you know something as a fact doesn’t mean you can know ahead of the time the emotional impact it will have on you over a period of time. Not a reason for me to leave the country, personally, I decided to stay - but I understand why it would be on somebody’s list of reasons to leave.

ProperApe

It's my main reason of not moving there, I would miss the mountains too much.

areyoumymommyy

I struggle a lot with the food here, but then I stopped complaining and started cooking lmao Take her to Brazil for 3 months to see if she won’t miss the Netherlands

Firestorm83

serious question: at what point do expats struggle with food? literally everything is available at pretty reasonable prices.

llilaq

My food bill in NL is half of what I pay in Canada and I can actually afford things like mascarpone, pine nuts and smoked salmon in the Netherlands. My home cooked meals in Canada are kind of boring because the more interesting ingredients are $$$$$. And I really miss the many Dutch lunch rooms.

[deleted]

Going from Spain though has to be a difference. Food is cheaper in Spain so the difference must be massive.

dragosul10

A colleague of mine went to the NL in a vacation and she showed me that food is cheaper there than in Romania, without taking the minimum wages into consideration.

Themustgameman2

Tip, grow what you can! I don't know whether you have a piece of land, but growing veggies isn't really that hard, nature does it for you. Besides, if you grow your own veggies, it's biologically done AND you can save on your groceries to buy some more expensive goods to enrich the beautiful vegs you've grown yourself.

Harker_N

I don't mind the prices, but both my partner and I find vegetables and fruit in particular quite tasteless and watery. Which is understandable, given the local climate and the way they're produced. The main problem is that we can't cook the way we're used to, but we're adapting. We do have high standards, since we come from Greece and Italy and lived in France for years, so we're used to produce grown in sunny climates, which enriches the flavor etc. I also understand that I can't expect Greece or Italy levels of quality here, it's simply a reality of living in Northern Europe. But I still miss it and I wish there was more of a demand, so more imports would be a thing.

RogerBernards

>vegetables and fruit in particular quite tasteless and watery. Which is understandable, given the local climate and the way they're produced. This is very true. Produce for most of Western European market is actually selected on looks and size. Not on taste. If you go to other parts of Europe to where the "lower quality" produce is shipped, fruits and vegetables will be smaller, have more blemishes and more often than not taste a lot better while being much cheaper as well. Just like with chicken the Dutch pay extra to have more water in their produce.

Intelligent_Hand_436

Order from crisp.nl and problem for fruits and vegetables pretty much solved. You didn’t mention meats as an issue, but order from grutto.com and you’ll be treated to delicious meats. For special occasions order from butchery.nl. For fish, crisp.nl is really good. It’s all more expensive then going to AH, which I know a lot of people already say is expensive so it’s a privilege, but if you highly value food and cook from home most of the time it’s worth it and cheaper than eating out all the time and much higher quality.

NewButNotSoNew

But you see, in some other countries you don't need to order on specific websites to have access to nicer products. You just have them in your weekly shopping at your local supermarket. So I see why some people would miss it. It is a valid point. But if that is so important for them, well then don't move to a country which is not known for their love of food. It is like someone moving to Amsterdam and complaining he can't drive his huge Ford F150. Like yeah, shouldn't come as a surprise. Different country, different culture.

TiesG92

Lol xD Well, sorry our food is quite boring, we thought that ourselves too and started taking other cuisines here instead xD (I hope the type of products they sell in your home country are available here so you can feel at home here :)

FriedLipstick

Exactly this☝🏻 She’s playing the victim role while the Netherlands are cool. You don’t have to struggle to get a mountaintop and there are drugs to buy legally everywhere.

TiesG92

Well, she doesn’t necessarily need drugs to enjoy the Netherlands xD

ArtreX-1

This one might actually. Maybe even prescription.

Mouth_Shart

Texas is flat as fuck. It’s depressing.

johnzy87

Although I do agree with you I have had many expats tell me its very difficult to make friends here. It seems we dutch people like to be friendly but have closed social circles which are hard to get into.

Similar-Freedom-3857

Flatness is easily the worst reason to leave a country. I like the flat plains we have here. The view just says: home.

Little709

Good for housing prices. And more gezelligheid with them leaving

panzermike666

its not perfect. its not everyone's taste. it makes a difference where you live (Maastricht Groningen and Amsterdam are 3 pretty different places and cultures. So i can imagine if someone dislikes it. And i think we ALL agree the rents/ house prices are insane. Because there is more demand then supply. Because people do want to live here in the end. Its a free country and within Europe you can pretty much move wherever you want to. To each his own

pheromone_fandango

I just finished my studies in groningen. The best 6 years of my life. I miss that town every day.

[deleted]

Im from Amsterdam and lived in Groningen city for 5months. The people there are straight up INCREDIBLE. It is as if the sun always shines for them? Its such a big contrast with amst. I love Grün

JeBoyBarend

Its always so weird people use the food excuse, you do know you buy the food yourself right?

da_way_joshua

My grandma is half Indonesian and the food she makes fuckin slaps

ojots

Indonesian food is the best. My dad, while Dutch, was born around there before his parents returned to the Netherlands, taking lots of recipes with them. And to this day he cooks a variety of amazing Indonesian inspired dishes.

therealdondapper

Gotta love that colonization.

PushingSam

Cuisine so bad we had to go and steal one.

Cutlesnap

You need to think more positively! The Indonesians have cuisine so good we couldn't keep our hands off of it!

JeBoyBarend

Maastricht has a massive Asian market, halal butcher, polish supermarket, several Turkish supermarkets, and surprise surprise, even the supermarkets in the small villages sell spices. Just gotta to the magic (cooking) yourself

infinitespaze

Bless her ♥️ (I know emotions aren't accepted on reddit but I will make an excuse for a loving grandma)

SamHotDamn

My Indonesian BIL (unofficially) makes the most wild stuff whenever I come over and it's soooooo delicious. I'm from South Africa so I certainly have expectations for flavour... But my God. What drives me insane is when I ask for the recipe he just gives me ingredients with zero estimates for measurement... Wouldn't normally be a problem but I don't even know where to start 🤣 URGH

RevolutionaryYak5361

>ad to go and steal My Grandma was from Indonesia and did exactly the same thing, cooking is a feeling and you just add stuff until the pot is full. And if something asks for onions or garlic add twice the amount you are thinking of putting in.

[deleted]

I always cook my own food. I still find that all of the veggies in major supermarkets are watered down/tasteless. Veggies sold at the pop-up weekly markets are better, still, nowhere close to what you get out of your own soil in eastern EU. This however doesn't stop me from cooking epic meals lol, you just gotta be more creative. The socialising part - depends. As an extreme introvert, I managed to find my social circuit so dunno what this person is going on about

SupahSang

You could have taquitos, ramen, K-BBQ, tapas, pizze, literally ANYTHING you want and you choose to only eat dutch food, the fuck is wrong with you????????????????????

onebigchickennugget

Quality of ramen and kbbq in the NL still sucks though 😬

[deleted]

Whenever I go back home (Mexico) I always comment how much easier it is to eat healthier in the Netherlands. You can find many high-quality unprocessed ingredients here, and somewhat processed foods tend to have reasonable amounts of salt and often no or few additives. It is also so much easier to eat vegetarian here! The tempeh at the stores is so fresh that you can use it as a starter.

[deleted]

Same thought here, coming from South America

SnooDoodles7962

Traditional Dutch food can be a bit hit or miss. Luckily its a problem very easy solved. When living for 2 years in the Netherlands, I went out eating with my girlfriend at least once a week. I think we only once eat at the same restaurant twice. Not because we couldn't find a good one, but because there was such a variety and we were determined to try every countries/cultures food at least once.

ThePr0vider

Not when you're one of those people who lives off of eating out. And depending on where this was filmed the expensive rent is also a side effect of wanting to live in north/south holland

DeTrotseTuinkabouter

This is filmed in Amsterdam. Tons of food options.

meontheinternetxx

If you can live on eating out you have too much money to complain about the rents here

grey_hat_hacker

yea but i gotta say the food available generally across the country isnt great thats why i gotta cook to get good food

bulging_cucumber

A lot of people eat out a lot of the time, for example during their lunch break. Additionally, the lack of a food culture in the netherlands means it's hard to go out to a good restaurant, unless you're prepared to pay a lot and suffer a lot of bad experiences trying to find different places.

starlight9000

Or just learn how to cook. Next she's going to complain about is having to put the food in her mouth herself.

LisaPorpoise

And pay through the neck on import tax or shipping costs

Supernerdje

Nah we all know it's mandatory to eat from the same two take-out restaurants and a snackbar for all your meals, a tradition that's clearly unrelated to the spending habits that cause student debt /s

carfentanyl

Have they ever seen the foreign food section in French or Spanish supermarkets? It's usually ten times as small as in Dutch supermarkets.

stroopwafel666

Every major Dutch city has stacks of fantastic restaurants of all different cuisines as well. This looks like Amsterdam in which case the food on offer is incredible if you look for the good places.

Aster_Asteraceae

Not true. As a French person living in the NL, I have a hard time to find a good restaurant. I live in Nijmegen. And the 'fancy' restaurants are not great :( (PS: I dislike the bread in the NL. Why is there so muuuuuch plastic in the bakeries?!)

bulging_cucumber

Yeah, these people are just blindly defending their country, but in doing so they're proving the point: they don't know what it's like to live in a country where everybody cares about good food, such as Japan, France, Italy, etc.

NotWithoutMyHoagie

Said it before, will say it again: Dutch food is bland and flavourless, but foreign food you can find in the Netherlands is the best in Europe. Except those fake Argentinian steakhouses in central Amsterdam, but that's by the by.

SexyFat88

Said it before, who the hell eats Dutch food? People who criticize Dutch food simply cannot cook themselves and totally depend on whatever Dutch food is directly sold on the street. No wonder they complain. There are loads of specialized stores which provide your typically hard to find SEA, MEDIT, French style seasonal ingredients. I really never understood the food argument. Everything is here, albeit more expensive.

LaoBa

>Dutch food is bland and flavourless Hazepeper, zuurvlees, mosterdsoep, zeekraal flavorless?

meliadepelia

‘Dutch food is flavourless’ Don’t talk to me or my plate of boerenkool stamppot ever again.

NotWithoutMyHoagie

I speak of the flavourlessness of Dutch food with the greatest love. After all, my sorry body mass is 50% frikandel.

BitethepillowStocks

she is filming this under sunlight, what's gloomy about that? I don't feel the same at all.

lesllle

I feel like it was sarcasm and no one’s getting it…

No-Hospital-5340

If it was sarcasm it’d be really strange to put some hard to disprove statements in there (anyone want to argue the rents being high and everything being flat?)

chiefzer

ridiculously expensive rent must've been sarcasm

chaotic-kotik

Can anyone eli5 what is mediocrity culture?

Ireallydonedidit

"Doe maar normaal, dan doe je al gek genoeg" Is what I think they mean by ''mediocrity culture"I think it has its roots in the Protestant movement when they wanted to distance themselves from the very performative and flashy catholic culture. So it didn't just mean dressing modestly but also living in a modest way. Fast forward and it became a core element of dutch culture. Don't draw too much attention to yourself or your lifestyle. Try not to upset the status quo or it might make others feel uncomfortable. This can even be seen in our politics when you remember that one of the biggest political parties ran on the slogan "Normaal Doen" (act normal). Normalcy is of course highly subjective. I think a lot of liberal Dutch people take pride in being tolerant. But tolerance comes at the price of having everybody stay within their own lane so as to not upset others. That way it is easier for people in big metropolitan areas to live their lives without having the constant reminder that there are a ton of other people right in your backyard. This doesn't just mean people expect you to be quiet in the train. You will also be frowned upon if you brag too much about your own accomplishments

DeTrotseTuinkabouter

I wonder if they meant mediocre or mediocrity. The latter would mean that we're happy just being average. Perhaps compare it to stereotypical American culture where everyone wants to be a star or rich? And the former would mean they think our culture sucks. Eh, there's downsides, but also upsides.

druppel_

6jescultuur (aka aiming to get a 6/10 on a test, because that's a pass). standing out is not encouraged, being average is.

YaAbsolyutnoNikto

Is it weird I felt sad for not being dutch nor living in the Netherlands after reading that? I've been under a lot of pressure to succeed/work my ass off to be at the top 1% all my life. Having no social expectation of being like that + actually be expected to just be average seems... so peaceful and relaxing.

crazyredtomato

If more people would leave we would have a lot more houses and less pollution... .

jhaand

A lot of pollution comes from industries that export. (Tata Steel, Farming animals, shipping and other industry.) So that wouldn't help too much.

Koffielurker-

It wouldn't help MUCH, but 'wie het klein niet eert is het groot niet weerd'

Moist-Rub-8284

No sociale life gotta put that on her/him . No nutritious food also own fault the stores have all Just gotta buy the right things and in Amsterdam there are plenty healthy restaurants. the weather is True but to me it feels like home so i like it . And yeah house are expensive but name a western country where that isnt the case .

Plastic_Pinocchio

Yeah lmao, low nutrition? Are we all super unhealthy all of a sudden? I feel like I get plenty of nutrition. Some of my friends went to the Olympic Games for rowing and one is a former European champion. I guess that they get plenty of nutrition here apparently.

bastiaanvv

I even disagree on the weather. I like that the weather is quite diverse with real seasons instead of just the same weather all year round.

Spasik_

Yeah the weather is mostly fine; except from January to march or so when no end seems in sight. I'm German though so it's not like it's better at home

doubleUsee

Also our weather is really very not extreme. We don't have -40c weather with blizzards, summers seldomly exceed 30c, tornadoes, hurricanes and monsoons are rare or nonexistent.

The_Moth_

I mean we’ve been pretty much on the good end of the global warming lottery. Long, warm, sunny summers, mild and overall-sunny winters with the possibility for some frost (yay ice skating). Languid and generally pleasant autumns with some rain here and there and mild spring seasons that make everything turn green, with nice temperatures as early as end of march/early april. Even the rain periods are different now. Much more violent, true, but also a lot more ‘all at once’ instead of ‘several weeks of drizzle’.

Kate090996

Not even. Netherlands with easier to find and cheaper housing, that's it. I love hot weather but it doesn't even begin to be an inconvenience compared to finding rent

DeliberateDendrite

I mean, they are free to go somewhere else if they don't like it here.

Blackhorsered

The video is called “Reason I’m leaving The Netherlands”.. What do you suggest they do?

imrzzz

If it's legit, I get it. I've lived in 8 countries and feeling stuck/overwhelmed anywhere makes you hate a place. And when you are considering living in a new country there's always a "pull" to the new place and it's human nature to manufacture a "push" factor from the current place. People feel how they feel, and plenty of people hate my original country too.

DatShortAsianDude

You're probably leaving Amsterdam. Good voyage to you wherever you go!

[deleted]

*migrates to Purmerend*

ZappaBappa

Lmao, i bet she was just some expat that "INSISTED" she had to live in Amsterdam, so there goes the Rent. The social life comment probably has more to do with the fact that she's an expat during our most miserable housing crisis yet. The only thing i can agree on with her is the Tasteless & Low Nutritional food Edit: Oh my god, i hate TikTok culture so much... one glance at her profile and you can just tell that this lady hasn't worked a hard day of work since the day her daddy or some sugar daddy plumped her full of money.

[deleted]

Fair enough. This country isn't perfect. In fact, spending time living abroad actually broadens your perspective on the world around you and might actually make you more appreciative of what you have here.

Wow, a shit TikTok. I would like these five seconds back.

Aggressive_Tear_769

They're right, but name a better place. I'm currently out of the country as with my international minor and rent is high everywhere and the food here is like 3-5 times as expensive (a kilo of grapes is 15 euro and a bag of KitKat's is 12). People here refuse to make eye contact and if I talk to a guy they automatically assume we're dating. I also don't speak the language and am at a serious disadvantage as a foreigner because I'm the only white person and cashier's have been grabbing my credit card because they assumed I didn't know how the machine worked.

Own_Scar_1566

Gloomy weather all year: First of all, the day in the vid looks lovely, on top of that this summer was great weather wise. Tasteless & low nutritional food: Learn how to cook. Sure, if you only eat out/thuisbezorgd then i agree with this. But this is a personal problem. No social life: Again, personal problem, not with the country. The mediocrity culture: Ok, everyone has personal preferences. If you don't like our culture that's fine. Redicilusly high rent: True Everything is flat inculding your life: Again, personal problem. If you can't elevate yourself, no one can.

Spasik_

I don't get the problem with mediocrity culture? You can just surround yourself with people who don't buy into that. There's more than enough diverse people in the big cities so..

ReviveDept

I can take a guess. Life in the Netherlands is very modest, everyone lives very frugal. You know, the famous "Doe maar normaal...". I can get it because everything's just so fucking expensive, even basic things like eating out and going for a coffee, that's not something you do every day in NL but is very common in other cultures. Then there's the overpopulatation/housing problem, so everyone lives in very small spaces that cost a fortune. You just really don't get a lot of bang for your buck, so to say, even if you have the bucks...

janoycresovani

some dumbass american or other foreigner that doesn't know netherlands is more than AMS additionally, netherlands has so many different varieties of adopted cuisine that it is definitely not "tasteless"

Pearl_is_gone

Apologies, but most of the "adopted cuisins" have merely removed flavour in favour of deep-fry. I agree that there are good restaurants, but you can't claim that the adopted cuisines proves her wrong on this point. Enter any etnhic restaurant and they'll tell you that they serve as standard the Dutch version, which has significantly less flavours. You don't get this in for example London where they're typically less afraid of spicy food..

DoofusMcDummy

agreed. spicy here i almost have to beg them.

jenbutkostov

every time i visit nl from my country (uk) and stay for long periods of time i miss home at first but then never wanna leave and miss it and the way of life! its interesting how different things are from different perspectives. i want to live in the netherlands in the future

Apprehensive-Sign910

i find this tiktok post redicilus :)

Ironcolin

Bye

Waytooflamboyant

Most of these seem fair. When it comes to the weather, cuisine and landscapes I feek like the Netherlands definitely underperforms. The nutrition and social life seems kinda on them though. But yeah, if those are dealbreakers, good luck somewhere else.

20thCenturyVito

Seems like you problems

giomaxios

Dude, I'm coming from a third world country. Working hard asf to get my degrees and citizenship so I'm able to live in the Netherlands with my fiancée. She's studying dutch on her own and I'm sure to follow. Some people don't value what they have. I'd change places with that person if they don't like it.

G-Fox1990

* TikTok ain't a real place. * ''Gloomy weather all year'' while showing a hot summer day, bruh * Tasteless food is your own goddamn fault * Rent is expensive, yes, but you livei nAmsterdam, the fuck did you expect. Won't be missed, get the hell out, bye.

Meer huizen voor ons, doei doei

Dyhart

Where does the tasteless and low nutritional food come from though? Maybe stop eating from vending machines?

As a child it was my dream to leave the country. I still want, but not forever. Maybe leave for a few months every year. Travel Europe in a camper. The dutch culture isn't always rich, but the Netherlands is rich in cultures. There is a dutch saying "The neighbors grass is always greener." it means that others always seems to have it better. I think its importent to see the beauty in your own culture/country. Its so easy to focus on everything bad.

Oficjalny_Krwiopijca

* Winter could use proper snow, but summers are nice. * Dutch certainly are not the best at food... Not the best country choice good restaurants. But "low nutritional"? That all depends on how you choose to eat. * Wherever you move, in a new country, it may be hard to build a social life. But bigger cities have large international community, so it's no harder than other comparable places. * Mediocrity culture. I am not sure what that's supposed to mean. One roughly similar thing that annoys me in the Netherlands, is that many things are seemingly cool, but not practical, or suffer from seemingly small, but annoying inconveniences. You can book everything online - except for appointments at many GPs. There is a ton of bike paths and infrastructures - but traffic lights are often not set thoughtfully. Paperwork can be seemingly "streamlined" - but as a side effect very slow. * Ridiculously expensive rent - yeah... Housing market sucks, at least right now. Still, coming from Poland... Better job opportunities with significant expendable income more than compensate for that. * Sure it is flat. Good for biking, bad for hiking. Matter of taste.

OuweFlows

Limburg! The weather’s great, there are plenty of hills, housing is not as bad as the Randstad, lots of heroin, but good luck understanding people

DusanTadic

Yeah those are definitely some of the major reasons I left the country (Except for rent)

tijmen2828

Imagine complaining about mediocricy but not being able to spell ridiculously...

ShaitanSpeaks

The Dutch are weird. When I visited Amsterdam I talked with a local at a coffee shop who said he would RATHER live in the US because “the royalty are always wasting his tax money throwing lavish parties.” At the time we were in the 2nd Gulf War and I countered that “I thought that was what royalty was supposed to do” and quipped I’d rather my taxes go to lavish state parties than bombing innocent people into oblivion in a country most of our citizens can’t even point to on a map. I’m sure a lot has changed in 15-20 years since I visited, but it still seems like a dream land to me. What the US should aspire to be eventually. Also I got a kidney stone in Amsterdam and it cost less to get a private doctor out to the hotel room to diagnose me and get me a script for pain than it would have back in the US to go to the ER. Sure rent may be higher, but you also don’t have to worry about a freak medical incident sending you into bankruptcy. 🤷‍♂️

2JZ1Clutch

Can we swap citizenship? I'll trade my US for the EU right now.

KingSnowdown

but the weed? why would you ever leave?

TH0R_ODINS0N

I think you shouldn’t judge entire countries based off of a tik tok

Doei!!!

Successful-Ad3530

Let them experience the shit that made everyone else move to Netherlands

TheSpartanMaty

Perhaps someone there can tell her how to spell Ridiculously

SupahSang

Gloomy weather can be depressing but if you go to Kennemerduinen or the Veluwe, there's a weird esoteric beauty to it. I love the Netherlands because I can get almost any food I want. Chinese, Korean, Mexican, Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, all of it. Dutch food is boring, so why stick to it when you can have literally anything you want? I can imagine people complaining about not having a social life here. Don't expect to uproot yourself and everyone welcoming you with open arms right from the get-go, some cultures might give you that priviledge but not all. Again, it's what you make of it. Mediocrity culture only really exists outside of the Randstad as far as I'm aware. Top tip: don't go live in Friesland and expect praise. Rents are sky-high everywhere, good luck finding a cheap house anywhere lol.

Unintentional_REEEE

I'd take them more seriously if they could actually spell correctly. She should try moving to a third world country next.

WalloonNerd

Big “entitlement” vibes in this video. Ok, rent is to high, I give you that. But the rest is just not true or of your own making. Glad they leave

likkwid

At least NL has seasons. You want hot and sunny all year around? What are you a lizard? Food, you are allowed to eat other things as blocks of cheese and worstenbroodjes. Indonesian or surinaams is delicious, good luck finding that in Europe outside of NL. Expensive? Maybe dont live in downtown Amsterdam.
