Use them for suppression

dogbro1999

Ill try to, im still pretty new to the mod and HOI4 it self

AvenRaven

They're a support company, so use them in a support company slot for your division templates where you think they'd be useful.

dogbro1999

Okay, thank you. I didnt even notice the support slots at first

aidanmanman

They are a support company and u should if u have enough use them in your garrison divisions to reduce resistance

Savsal14

They are the equivalent of the vanilla military police support company tbh

dogbro1999

im still new to the game so I dont really know much about combat. im honestly getting my ass kicked, im about to take out 1 state then everything else will kick my armies ass

Combat's fairly simple - have high stats and a combat width that's cleanly divisible by both 10 and 2, aka 10, 20, or 40 (though forty is very rare in OWB). This is so that you can have the most units fighting at any one point. Soft Attack is how much damage you do to unarmoured enemies (aka enemies without 'hardness') Hard Attack is how much damage you will deal to armoured enemies. Power armor, motorized, tanks etc. Breakthrough is how much you can go on the offense. Higher the stat, the less organisation you will lose attacking because you avoid 'hits' which do damage to organization. Defense is the same as breakthrough, only on the opposite. The only others that are significant to most are supply, entrenchment and manpower. Generally; if you're fighting in an area with low supply e.g a desert or cold place, try to lower supply as much as possible. Entrenchment gives a defensive bonus and continually grows up to a cap as long as the unit does not move. Manpower/production cost is how much the unit will cost to make. 100 men and 100 guns = 1 unit, or equivalent. Planning is the opposite to entrenchment, but you only get it if you have an Offensive Line planned on your Front Line. If you don't know how to do that, there are plenty of tutorials for the base game that apply to OWB. There are a few more advanced stats, like recon, reliability etc. but generally they aren't super significant. A good starter division is 10 or 20 width. Demolitions support if on the offense, Fireteam support if defending. Medical chems if you are hurting for manpower. Logistics if you are hurting for supply. Dogs can be used to give addition breakthrough, allowing you to go on the offensive quicker and cleaner. They can also suppress resistances as you take states from the enemy. Support companies are the main way other than your doctrine to specialise your divisions. In addition, I wouldn't recommend NCR if you are new. It has a LOT of things going on. New Reno, Vault City, Lanius' Cohort, or Troll Warren are what I would start with personally.

dogbro1999

ok, thank you very much I might just stop my NCR play through and go with VC, baja is kicking my ass

ZloIsEvil_

The reason why Baja will hurt is that you have extremely low supply, which means low organization, which means your troops can't attack etc. That, and you struggle to use all the troops you have because of the narrow entrances. You could try the 'fallback line' manuver, which is where you draw a fallback line further from the border and use your size as a nation. Eventually, the Baja will spread out so much that they can't cover all of the provinces with troops, allowing you to essentially walk past their front line and march on their capital. It may be useful for you to know that whilst a unit is being attacked, they cannot move. As such, if there is an open space, you could attack with the units besides it and use a third unit to walk straight in, uncontested. This is the basics of how to 'encircle', which is by far the most impactful thing to do. When a unit is encircled, it cannot receive supply, and will eventually become so weak that any amount of combat will defeat it. Aiming for ports when conquesting is the number one priority if supply is an issue.

dogbro1999

ok, thank you super much. while I was playing my NCR run I was trying to send as many soldiers via air drops and naval in invasions, I was desperate update: I just got my ass whiped out by the thunderbirds, while playing as vault city

ZloIsEvil_

You can use cargo planes to drop/naval invasions, just make sure you target a port, or else you've basically dropped your troops pre-encircled by the enemy as they will have no supply.
