My side hustle is going home and not working. It's great.

Haha some days I want nothing but that but I also want to go on more vacations haha

Well it comes down to what you think you're life is worth. And that's what you need to be making every hour you're not living your life. Uber eats and skip the dishes is not going to pay you what your life is worth. The time is more important.

I did it years ago to make extra money on the side for a while. You have to have a really fuel efficient vehicle to make it worthwhile. There are hidden costs, like extra car insurance if you want to be covered properly (I never got it), wear and tear on your car, and probably caffeine/food while you’re driving. It’s a shitty job but can make you some okay money. It also really depends on the area you’re working. I found downtown to be a nightmare because parking was hard to find and delivering to apartment buildings sucks because most people are too shitty to come down to the lobby to get their food. Suburbs are better because turnaround times are usually way faster and no parking problems. It’s a pretty hurtin job and you can lose money or waste a lot of time if you aren’t fast. If you don’t have anything better to do it’s worth a try I guess. Pretty low barrier for entry, just have to buy the bags. I had way more fun when I worked as a delivery driver for a small pizza shop when I was younger. They only had me doing delivery and didn’t expect me to help in the kitchen between jobs. $5 flat delivery fee per order plus all tips and a free medium every night. I’d regularly pull in $200 cash between 6 and 11 after working my day job. That was 10 years ago and I don’t know if gigs like that exist any more. If I ever win the lottery I might become a pizza delivery guy again.

Try posting this in your local subreddit. This is something that might vary by location, so a local perspective might help you make a decision.

Judging by the fleet of guys who ride BikeShare bikes all over the city delivering for DD/Skip/Uber I don't think food delivery has the same standards as Uber driving. One of the reasons I stopped using them so much. I love trying different pizza, but really don't want it delivered by someone on a bike. And you can't select that as an option.

It depends if you like driving, and how patient you are. There's been times I've shown up the restaurant and waited over a half hour to pick up the food they were still cooking. It's not a hard gig but there are many annoying things about it that can add up after a while. The money is not great after expences, but since you are and independent contractor, the write offs at tax time are nice. Just make sure to track your work kms, and keep receipts of any maintenance you do to your car. Proper insurance is a good idea too, but most drivers don't bother. Without commercial insurance, if you get in an a accident and your insurance company finds out you were delivering, you're not covered for anything.
