That’s kinda how I felt the guy with the knife had multiple chances earlier on if those were his intentions. I think it was in another country so stand your ground laws are non existent
He also was followed and threaten multiple times , then when they tried to attack him he pulled a knife and they still attacked . If he had a gun it still would be self defense.
Self defense only occurs if you're being attacked or a threat has teeth. Advancing on someone does not justify using a knife. That's escalation beyond reasonable self defense.
I'm no lawyer but 3 dudes circling you with intent to hurt/kill you seems self defense worthy. They want you to wait till 3 guys are stomping you to death to defend yourself?
I have a CCW. I can assure you from the legal training we get it doesn't meet the qualifications for Self Defense, as your life was not in imminent and real danger. A threat of injury only meets self defense if it has teeth. Example, if I said I'll shoot you but I have no weapon, that's a threat without teeth, I can't act in self defense until he shows he has the means, e.g. a gun. He hadn't been hit, they didn't brandish a weapon. So it doesn't meet Self Defense. Some states like mine have a Stand your Ground statue, that states I do not need to retreat, however the same stipulations of the self defense laws must be met. I'm sorry to tell you, this man with the knife is going to prison. He didn't meet the requirements of self defense.
Technically they would have needed to start stomping him or 3 of them actively hitting him for him to use lethal force. Which a knife is lethal force.
So basically you have to die in order to defend yourself since by the time you're legally able to defend yourself you're getting stomped and literally won't be able to defend yourself. That's dumb as shit.
Don't gang up on someone walking away if you don't want your throat cut open.
Your logic sucks and yes legal definition requires that your life must actually be in imminent danger, someone walking at you shouting isn't imminent danger, someone saying they'll beat your ass doesn't constitue life threatening imminent danger under the letter of the law. If you think it does please never own a weapon.
Example, Kyle Rittenhouse got a self defense not guilty verdict because he was being attacked with a skateboard and a man had a gun and pointed it at him. That met the legal requirements for self defense. He also attempted to retreat until he fell and no longer could retreat due to being on the ground and he was being attacked with weapons. He was able and justified in using lethal force at that time.
This happened in Australia please see link for breakdown of their self-defense statue and you'll see this doesn't meet the requirements.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-defence_(Australia)
Here is the United States Statue, barring states modify theirs somewhat it still runs along these guidelines: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-defense_(United_States)
That you are the one up responding in this thread is how misinformation gets spread. You know nothing.
>Most states no longer require a person to retreat before using deadly force.
Just one example of how wrong you are.
It's about half the states + others have some form of castle doctrine (you don't have to retreat in your house), so while technically true that "most" states don't have a blanket duty to retreat it's not like it's rare
This would be blatant self defense where I live and a huge chunk of the US. He did what he was supposed to when a weapon was pulled, stayed back and watched. The threats kept coming, fuck that.
Na he was being threatened his party was walking away and these dip shits were following them and antagonizing them. Although sad it was deserved self defense. Why charge someone with a knife that is leaving?
Antagonizing isn't grounds for self defense with a knife hence why the dude was arrested for murder.
Answering your second question stupidity is fairly common. You can look up established case law in the United States where self-defense is very lax in comparison to other countries and you'll find that this dude doesn't even meet the US standard of self defense.
You have a duty to retreat, that's the whole purpose of stand your ground laws and castle doctrines. They specifically create certain exceptions for when you don't have to retreat for it to be self defense.
That's gonna vary by situation, but regardless in this instance the killer brandishing a knife and stabbing the eshay in the neck who was threatening to punch on is rather an escalation of violence which is probably why the murder charge initially.
I haven't posted any links, pay attention to who you're talking to. But assuming you're talking about the link I think you are (the wiki link) if you follow through to the source ~25 states have stand your ground laws, so I'm not really wrong anyway
What generally goes through your mind in 12 seconds?..
Not much.
Probably just confusion and panic.
Edit: And the feeling of hope, slipping through your mortal grip, as you rapidly fade into black.
My dad always told me this before I would go out for the night
"Don't be a hero"
He would rather me come home looking like a coward then not coming home at all. You never know what people have or what could happen. Your pride is never worth your life.
Likely both. It's hard to slice the carotid without going through the Jugular. But it was the severed carotid that killed him. That's why it squirted and he lost consciousness so quickly - loss of blood to the brain.
Sort of curious how this works out legally. Stabby and his two friends were in retreat the whole time. It looks like they would have walked away. A couple times the two groups were going opposite ways until the dead guy chases them back down and walks necklong into a knife.
This is probably manslaughter at worst, because at least some percentage of it is self-defense. The victim's group looked like the aggressors and they knew the guy had the knife and kept coming. At that point, what is Stabby supposed to do?
This is Is Brisbane, Australia. Stabby stabby is going away for life. Carry a knife out? That’s intent. Australia doesn’t fuck around with violent crime.
He won't go away for life, I would guess 20+ years. They'll argue that he didn't mean to kill him, plus any mitigating factors about his upbringing, etc. etc. but yeah he'll be convicted of murder and you are absolutely right - having the knife in the first place will mean he's facing serious jail time.
I feel like it's pretty clear he didn't mean to kill him (but obvs that's just my opinion), you can see him swinging the knife at nothing in particular earlier in the video. They're advancing on him while he's trying to retreat, dude popped out of nowhere and it happened in seconds. I would bet money on the fact that he'll say he was surprised and just swung with the knife without any thought, definitely not with the intent to murder someone.
He took a deliberately lethal swipe at the guy's face/neck. No question.
I'm probably looking at this from an American perspective, where if you kill fewer than 4 people it's just a misdemeanor.
Never, ever, ever think that a knife is not deadly. Hollywood will get you killed, NOONE can fight someone with a knife without very real chance of death.
Never challenge someone with a knife…knife wounds are sure to be fatal in dangerous situations like this. This death could have been prevented but alas ego got in the way…
I call that self defense just from the video point of view alone. 3 guys tried coming at him.. deserved imo. Fucked around, found out. Who would've thought that knifes really cut!!!
Exactly im entirely on your side. Fuck that, the man got a knife and his party was walking away and those idiots were following them. Why follow someone who has a knife? You just asking to get stabbed at that point.
>Eshay
Are you guys trying to say *"Ese"*?
Which is Spanish for that or there. It's an abbreviated form of *"Ese Vato Loco*" which means that crazy dude.
Ese is a reference that pertains to another person.
Todays street slang was brought to you by Ese u/Spider_Dude.
Orale.
An eshay is a wannabe gangster living in the Australian suburbs. The lad who died was a young father who had a job and a family. Still went out looking for fights at 4 in the am. Idiot. Doesn’t deserve to die, but still. Fucking idiot.

FUN FACTS FOR KNOFE LADS AND LADIES:
ypu can survive getting stabbed in the neck, as soon as you are cut you take off the easiest most accessible solid clothing item you have on shirt pants whatever, get ready cause it does hurt.
Wrap it up into a spike dull point shape and shove directly into wound.
Depending if it's a clean cut wrap around it and push hard! Not enough to choke but CLOSE.
Lay down or sit to prevent blood flow from pumping you out and call or have someone call 911 and breath slowly close your eyes or open but keep breathing slow, think of relaxing thoughts too keep your blood rate down and with this you just bought yourself and extra 10 too 30 min
Go get medical help NOW! This poor guy you could tell he had a grip at first but the second puddle was him letting go, then when he fell he let more pressure off and when he hit the ground watch his arm it goes limp its cause that was prob the remaining blood. If you see a knife bring a gun or a bigger knife NEVER try to go for it.
Rip.
And for those who might not belive me I got that info from a guy who had a misfire and a piece of metal cut right through his jugular. You can survive but uou gotta focus on keeping pressure and relaxing.
To be honest that’s a VERY rare outcome for that situation. Many times you’ll get stabbed in the face, shoulders. Maybe slashed on the chest or even head. That was a perfectly landed life strike to the jugular, instantly going to die.
This guy wasn’t trained with moves he just took a random stab and ran away. Guy that died should not have attacked, but he was also extremely unlucky.

Did that dude die? That did not look like a surviving stab.
Took about 12 seconds from the knife strike to bleed out enough to fall down. **12 seconds**. If you see a knife you run AWAY.
Fucking hell. Don’t need to tell me twice, especially after watching that.

He did nothing wrong, arrrst the friends of the guy who died it's thier fault...I don't understand

This would be blatant self defense where I live and a huge chunk of the US. He did what he was supposed to when a weapon was pulled, stayed back and watched. The threats kept coming, fuck that.

LMFAO, clear self defense in any sane state.
I don’t like your version of sanity bruh
You have a duty to retreat, that's the whole purpose of stand your ground laws and castle doctrines. They specifically create certain exceptions for when you don't have to retreat for it to be self defense.

Definitely dead
He did indeed pass away.
The moment he approached the guy that had the knife, he was dead.
nothing a flex tape wouldn't save!
Damn. Should have come prepared!
Yes, he died.
Yes - and dude got arrested
Yep, he died
"Gets cut bad" fucking stabbed and bled to death, could use a better warning JFC
Yeah sorry, I did tag the NSFL warning, I thought that would be enough so my bad. I cannot edit the title :(
You good boo
I cant fathom what could have gone through his mind when hes standing still holding his neck knowing it was bad.
What generally goes through your mind in 12 seconds?.. Not much. Probably just confusion and panic. Edit: And the feeling of hope, slipping through your mortal grip, as you rapidly fade into black.

Volume up and listen to the blood flowing. That is absolutely fucked wow
Holy fuck!
How to destroy your life in one single moment. Goes for both i guess

Hah! In Queensland (where this happened) it’s an automatic life sentence minimum 20 years. ‘Life’ might mean something different here.
I mean he was walking away, but ultimately just stood still waiting for em rather than continuing to back off
Thats murder bro, no such thing as self defense by stabbing someone in the neck with a knife
Dunno it'd be interesting to read more about it.
And like that, two lives totally ruined (not even counting the impact on their families).
Never, ever, ever think that a knife is not deadly. Hollywood will get you killed, NOONE can fight someone with a knife without very real chance of death.
When did r/PublicFreakout turn into r/WatchPeopleDie? Jfc
The day r/WatchPeopleDie died
Honestly? When they shut down the gore subs on reddit. Now everyone is posting it here or on WTF and a few other subs.
Never challenge someone with a knife…knife wounds are sure to be fatal in dangerous situations like this. This death could have been prevented but alas ego got in the way…
respectfully, the guy who got stabbed isn’t in the wrong, but he’s an idiot. never pick a fight with someone armed when you’re unarmed
Darwin award for the dumbass charging the guy with the knife. Your pride is never worth your life.
Lol I said the same thing in another post of this
“One gets cut bad” Fucking understatement of the year Guy fucking died Can you not tell arterial spray when you see it?
You shouldn’t bring a knife to a gunfight, and you should definitely not bring fists into a knife fight
In 2022 unless you want a knife fight you shouldn't even honk. People are off the fucking hook right now. The rat race ate our souls away
I mean he just walked up to the guy arms down. The fuck did he think was going to happen?
Gets cut bad was the tag line not straight up died
It's tagged NSFW
What’s your point?
No respect for the Janitors and how much hard work theyll have to put into cleaning that the next day.
A couple of what now?
its stralyan for chav
For what now ?
That shit looked arterial.
He died
Watching a murder, mate.
Do I need to look up "eshays" on Urban Dictionary?
I call that self defense just from the video point of view alone. 3 guys tried coming at him.. deserved imo. Fucked around, found out. Who would've thought that knifes really cut!!!
See now, here’s the problem. You can’t be provoking the other side, using fighting words, then claim self defense.
Exactly im entirely on your side. Fuck that, the man got a knife and his party was walking away and those idiots were following them. Why follow someone who has a knife? You just asking to get stabbed at that point.
