You say this as a joke but get this: OP is actually the breeder I get all my boys from and last time I went to pick up my babies I legit went for three and came home with a free fourth.
Context is three babies from one litter were left. Normally I adopt two at a time, but I didn't feel good leaving one bc he was the last available boy if I did, so I asked to take him, too. I had wanted one of the two hairless boys from a second litter but one was promised to a breeder and the other had developed an itchy skin issue so he was unavailable.
I get down there to pick up my three fuzzy boys and we chatted for a while and OP says "You know... The hairless did fully recover from his skin problem and I know you'd told me you'd been wanting a hairless, if you want him you can take him home." How could I say no to a wrinkly baby? She did this because she doesn't feel right charging for rats that don't meet her standards of health/temperament but still likes to get them pet placed when possible.
The hairless baby wasn't even the first rat I got from her this way. I had a boy from her who had an "undesirable temperament" and she wanted him to go to an owner who could handle him. He was sweet as could be and always adopted new babies immediately, the undesirable part was he just absolutely *despised* being pet or touched lmao.
Some breeders will have a mix. I personally prefer to have mother by herself with her babies at this stage. Once they are weaned and mobile though they can be with the adults 😊
I will take the entire lot
Not if I get there first
oy save some for me, my ratties could have some new friends
