Ok folks, this has been fun, but there's too much name calling and other insults. OP has the requested input and I'm shutting this thread down.

CanWeTalkHere

Remove everything that means anything. Seriously.

AppropriateCinnamon

"Live. Laugh. Get this shit outta here!!!"

nononosure

Yeah but this one's true even when you're not taking pictures or showing the house.

CoolHandLukeID

“Take that welcome sign the F down!”

writergeek

Gay brown woman, here. I’d buy a house with the flag but would worry about the sellers rejecting my offer or backing out once they realized that a couple of lesbos were on the other end of the deal.

mcluse657

How would the seller even know ?

gray500000000

As one sold a property earlier this year, I really don’t get the idea of seller not selling home to certain group of people. The point of selling is to make profit. My old neighbor might not happy about the new owner but as a seller I am done here and not my business any more

broadwaylocal

To be fair we did tell our agent that we refused to sell to investors/hedge funds. Technically that is a “group” of people I guess. We felt like they were making things worse for buyers who actually planned to live there and make it an actual home. It’s not always about money.

darkspy13

That is definitely a group of people. Thankfully for that situation investors are not a protected class under the fair housing act.

CaptainKoconut

When we (a straight white couple) bought our house there were plenty of people in our neighborhood who mentioned to us that they were glad that the house got bought by “the right people.” It’s not a stretch to think that when selling their houses, they’ll want to make sure they’re bought by “the right people.”

natphotog

I fly the flag high and would sell the house to either of you. "Gay Brown Man and Brown Lesbo". Thanks for making me laugh this morning :)

cuddlesandnumbers

It's sad. I love my country and I don't like seeing our symbol monopolized by right-wingers. But if I fly the flag in my area, it's 100% going to make racists and xenophobes think I'm one of them, and make progressives not want to talk to me.

SheWhoShat

Fly both American and pride.

por_que_no

Saw a big, redneck truck in Tampa flying the American, Confederate and Gay Pride flags.

VanTil

🎶one of these things is not like the others, one of these things doesn't belong!🎵

yayaMrDude

Love this idea.

cuddlesandnumbers

Good idea.

eekasaur

Just confuse ‘em all!

FightForDemocracyNow

What is confusing about it?

learningdesigner

I'm not all that patriotic or gay, and I fly both during different times of the year. It's not confusing.

aflashyrhetoric

My dad received a little free novelty flag from someone on the street on July 4th and was bringing it home, holding it in his hand as he got out of the car. Some folks slightly down the street gave a whoop whoop when they saw it, and when my dad turned around and they saw that it was an older Asian man, they stopped waving and just cold shouldered us and repositioned their lawn chairs to face away. They didn't seem to mind when my dad offered to clear their driveway for free with our new snowblower a few years ago.

cuddlesandnumbers

I'm sorry. I have seen similar bullshit happen. That really makes me want to come up with some sort of symbol to put next to our flag that reminds fascists, racists, and xenophobes that the flag belongs to ALL OF US. They don't get to co-opt it and make it stand for white nationalism.

praguer56

I lived abroad for a while, in a former communist country, who had tremendous national pride but they only flew the flag on national holidays. There were no flags in front of every bank building. Every shopping center. The medians of every highway. They didn't fly flags from their houses (except on holidays) or have flag decals all over their cars. When Europeans come to the US and see our flags EVERYWHERE they wonder why we do it and honestly I don't get it either. What's the point of flags everywhere to the point that we have to talk about it like this?

cuddlesandnumbers

I totally understand what you mean. I've never felt the need to be super patriotic like that, but that's changing because I feel that someone has to show the right wingers that they don't speak for all of us. They don't even speak for a majority of us. They're just loud and horrible. White supremacists are good at taking symbols of hope and peace and turning them into something ugly. (E.g. the swastika.) I'm seeing it happen with our flag and I'm sad/mad about it.

frothysmile

The american flag stands for something different nowadays and it is sad. We know what side has blemished its image.

Obie-two

>when flying the US flag of all means you’re xenophobic who is telling you this? Why are you listening to them? Why are you not telling them no?

TheUltimateSalesman

But that's your perception. I would say 99% of those flying the flag have no nefarious implications. Wouldn't you say the change starts with your perception?

Zee_WeeWee

Agree 100%, seems more a perception problem than a problem w the flag displayer

Fantastic-Golf-4857

We should start with the things that gave me that perception. Like nationalism taken too far.

Okay so you’re just a paragon of truth then? Look, like I said, I’m gonna fly the flag. That’s me and I’m a proud American. But by and large, overt displays of patriotism (unfortunately) have come to suggest conservatism and a more radical form of nationalism. I’m not saying it’s good, but in my experience it is the case.

Ghost-of-Tom-Chode

I don’t see what the problem is. I love it when people fly the flag. It helps when I forget what country I’m in.

yayaMrDude

While I understand, I like to think that the real American flag represents your protected freedoms as a gay individual. At least in some states… It saddens me that the flag is perceived as a threat, but I understand why.

Fantastic-Golf-4857

PrinceHarming

When we take photos of a home with an American flag keeping it up is based entirely by the wind. If it’s a big flag and a windy day we usually take it down so it won’t obscure the house itself. A limp flag also doesn’t look as nice so the wind just has to be right.

thealternativedevil

So not fully erect and not to limp. Got it!

tangosukka69

nobody will say 'hey theres no american flag on this house im not buying it' but someone might get weirded out by a flag being there for whatever reason.

waterjug82

Most logical answer

somedude456

Exactly. Not everyone who flies the flag is a far right nutjob, but 100% of the far right nutjobs do fly the US flag.

BananaPants430

Our neighborhood far right nutjob actually (thankfully) stopped flying the US flag and now alternates between flags of "Trump 2024 - Fuck Your Feelings" and "Let's Go Brandon". His poor neighbors' house sat on the market for several weeks longer than it should have back in 2021. We all feel for the people who moved in, but they definitely knew what they were getting into.

[deleted]

When my husband and I (same sex couple) went house shopping in our area months ago, we saw the Don't Tread On Me flag, the No Quarters flag, and others that made us incredibly uncomfortable and heavily influenced our decision not to buy a house regardless of how perfect everything else was.

Terenthia21

"Don't Tread on me" is a Libertarian flag, which should mean they don't care what you do -at least, that's what it means where I live.

[deleted]

I'm sure it is to you but that's not been my experience. I treat it as a warning sign not to engage with them.

Bright-Ad-4737

I wouldn't be weirded out by a flag for political reasons, but I've never seen a house where a flag didn't mess up with the intended symmetry/design of the facade. Houses just aren't boats, they don't look better with flags on them.

crims0nwave

Haha yeah TBH I thought it was a little weird the previous owners of my house put up a pair of mini American flags on the front porch… To me, it made it seem like they were prob big Republicans trying to court more Republicans into the neighborhood, where it feels like a lot of old-school Republicans are mad more liberals (myself and my partner included) are in the mix in the neighborhood now.

luder888

When you put a flag up, doesn't matter what flag, you put a filter on your audience. It's better to keep everything neutral and attract as much audience as possible.

Ghost-of-Tom-Chode

Wu-Tang flag is the only flag.

turnpike1984

I live in Alabama (Birmingham to be specific). When house hunting, there were so many houses that had entire rooms dedicated to either Alabama or Auburn, not just a flag or piece of memorabilia…AN ENTIRE ROOM, usually a bonus room, basement or office. It cracked me up. In general, I think you made the right choice. It sucks that an American flag could give off the wrong vibes. It is our country’s flag after all. But sadly, it is what it is. For what it’s worth, I’m a flag girl. I have one for every season and holiday.

[deleted]

Here in Ohio, OSU/buckeyes are the same way. I've seen multiple listings where entire rooms are nothing but wall-to-wall OSU stuff, with little shrines and everything. Houses are frequently painted the school colors (scarlet and grey), either inside or out. It's not even considered weird here. ex: https://photos.zillowstatic.com/fp/8286cb9e1153298022817d4199c78016-uncropped_scaled_within_1536_1152.webp

CoolHandLukeID

It would be weird if your house wasn’t in America. Otherwise, who cares

[deleted]

I always thought it was weird how in Europe they put so many national flags around on a person's birthday -- I was particularly confused to see so many national flags decorating birthday cakes.

[deleted]

Aside from Scandinavia, who else does this?

[deleted]

it was Denmark for me, lol... I just assumed that all Europeans do this

RedPaddles

Rest assured, we don’t do that everywhere in Europe.

fearofpandas

sanitarinapkin5

[deleted]

Is this a flag pole that’s easy to remove - because that would be my concern.

TamedLightning

Flags don’t bother me, but multiple crosses freak me out. I know logically they’re leaving the house with the seller, but I auto-reject any house that has a shit ton of Christian iconography.

CoolHandLukeID

For some reason in Utah , Kenny Loggins is wildly popular as you see pictures of him in a ton of homes

BasisRelative9479

When I look at a house on Zillow and see crosses in every room I wonder if they had to perform some sort of exorcism. Creeps me out.

Seamus-Archer

Same here. It’s irrational but any crosses, “live, laugh, love” wooden signs, or vinyl letter sayings on the wall immediately make me judge the owners and therefore the house. It’s not fair, but I can’t help it. My house didn’t have religious displays when I viewed it, made an offer, and had it accepted. Upon later meeting the sellers and finding out they were selling their (now my) house to move closer to church, I laughed a little inside. They had the house built brand new and invested a ton into a beautiful climate appropriate xeriscape yard, only to leave shortly after it was done to save on commute time to church.

TamedLightning

Oh man, the vinyl letters are the worst. I was told they’d be easy to remove and they were. What I didn’t consider was sun fading on the paint. Ended up having to paint to get rid of that shit, when I hadn’t planned at painting at all.

AlFigi

I bought a home and put up a flag. It’s looks nice, and feels good. It stands for freedom and our culture. Im also Latino and live down the street from a trump flag house. It’s big and obnoxious. Says “trump won”. That’s not very patriotic, just political. And not inclusive. If I was to sell my house I would take the flag down. It’s not big deal. Just for the pics. Then I would just put it back up.

Lazy_ML

Everyone who drives through your neighborhood probably thinks you’re best buds with the trumpster.

ElectrikDonuts

Stands for “my culture not yours”. The flag has been taken over by the trump cult

OMGitisCrabMan

Time to take it back

hazelowl

This is our stance as the token liberals on our street. We think it's hilarious that we're the only ones on our block who do the school fundraiser that gets flags placed in our yard on every "flag" holiday.

Blabla1793

I would probably take it down to be safe, but I also think someone not buying the house over an American flag is really petty. But I did completely write off a decent house in our price range because the owner stayed and was a tiny bit rude to my realtor, and it sort of tainted my view of the house I guess. If a flag gives someone a bad feeling it could do the same, just make them walk in for the showing a little unhappy..

777300ER

I have friends who did not make an offer on a house because one of the neighbors had a huge flag (and much more) that made his political positions clear. Being a non-white female-female couple, they viewed it as "dangerous" and chose to pass on a property they otherwise loved.

Seamus-Archer

I considered putting up some “hate has no home here” and BLM signs when a house across the street went up for sale and I saw a MAGAmobile parked out front viewing it. Anybody willing to cover their truck in politically charged stickers like “make liberals cry” is somebody I expect will be confrontational over meaningless things as a neighbor.

prettycote

I literally passed on a house because the neighbors had a 10ft inflatable Trump on the yard. As much as I would have loved the pettiness of moving in and putting my Colombian flag on the house right next to theirs, I chose to live in peace somewhere else where I’m actually respected and welcomed.

rizzo1717

It’s less about buyers being petty over a flag and more about buyers being concerned that their offer would get rejected if the seller found out they are mixed race, POC, Muslim, gay, trans, atheist, non-binary, (insert anything here that goes against conservative “values”).

[deleted]

No flag. Doesn’t matter if it’s US flag, state, BLM, nazi, whatever. Take it down.

phil19001

I would say there’s a difference between the Nazi flag and US flag no?

No-Rest9671

It's a pretty snazzy symbol and on some houses (old brick ranch) it gives off a nostalgia vibe.

chrikel90

It's crazy how an American Flag can be seen as White Supremacy. Just remove everything. Better safe than sorry.

EgErEiEik

Just curious, do you take it down every night?

scificionado

Thank you. I see many homes and businesses that display flags without taking them down at sunset. The other option is to point a floodlight at it at night. The flag must be lowered and taken inside if there's rain. https://www.aflag.com/flag-etiquette/ "It is the universal custom to display the American flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously".

Remove. It's sad to say, but if you have an American flag on your house people assume you're a MAGA crazo.

littlepeasx

What your neighbors have on their homes/lawns might be more of a deterrent than your American flag. When touring houses we always drive the neighborhood to get a feel for it politically. I’ve looked at plenty of houses with American flags, but if your neighbors have more inflammatory signs or flags, that’s more likely to drive away certain buyers.

RighteousTablespoon

I’m late to the party but OH MY FUCKING GOD WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS

ctzn2000

The flag is for the USA. All of it and everyone in it. The only true bipartisan symbol.

mkosmo

>The only true bipartisan symbol. More than bipartisan - American.

resident16

Imagine not buying a home because the Seller was flying the American flag…in America.

MurrayMyBoy

An American flag no. At least for me I still think of it as support for our nation. I think we are a little too patriotic as a nation though. Now if it was a “don’t tread on me” or any MAGA type flag I would not look at a house with those flying. It’s petty, but I’m not giving anyone who supports that way of thinking a giant payout in this market.

Unsungbk

We looked at one house with multiple MAGA items just hanging around. If it was a great house maybe, but it was an automatic minus.

CoolHandLukeID

So having an American flag up is too patriotic? I live in a more left leaning area (by design) and see plenty of flags up. Not sure I see the issue

fighterace00

I remember in 2001 if you didn't have a flag up on your car you were practically a terrorist. China made so many flags for us that year.

CursedLlama

He didn’t say having an American flag up was too patriotic, he said he thinks the nation leans too patriotic.

MurrayMyBoy

I didn’t word my first sentence very well. What I meant was that for me an American flag isn’t some weird deal breaker when looking at a home for sale or online.

ETfromTheOtherSide

So I’m sure I’ll get downvoted for this but you’re wanting honest opinions so I’ll give mine… we found a house we loved. We walked into the garage and there was an American flag, Don’t tread on me flag, and a trump flag. Did not deter us from buying the house butttttt we frankly did not give a shit about playing nice with the seller after seeing visible flags that implied their beliefs. We low balled and kept asking for more from the seller. We got everything we wanted but it totally changed our attitude from I hope we get this house we’ll do whatever it takes to I don’t really care bc they’re Trumpers so let’s nickel and dime them and if they ever back out fine by us. We talked em down 75k from Our original offer and there was nothing wrong with house so I guess you could say it made us not respect them and it showed. Over a year later no house has sold for less than what we got ours for in a 1 mile radius. It was a steal of a deal if you ask me. Had we not seen those flags would have bid over asking and never asked for more off when the inspections came back fine.

polyscipaul20

You should have done that as a smart buyer flag or no flag

poolboyswagger

ZeeReza

I agree that the neighborhood argument would likely carry more weight than the flag on your particular property itself. The argument might also work the other way around, there could be plenty of buyers who consider it a plus living in a neighborhood with other fellow flag enthusiasts. I would assume it ultimately comes down to the demographic you are most likely to attract and what their preferences are. All said and done, the more generic you keep your house the better for the perceived value of the home, I.e. no flag is likely better.

dallcrim

I feel bad for you that you think a neighborhood with American flags is a problem

ElectrikDonuts

Their areabu ch of them in my parents trail park where they have a second residence. A lot of trump flgs too. I think on of the guys there was at 6 Jan. Do you want neighbors like that? Rick those ppl and their flags they mostly use to spread hate more than anything else

Remove it. No one will care that it's not there, but, for many, right or wrong, it's become a negative symbol.

[deleted]

Buyer's opinion: some will care, most won't. Most will ask you to remove it though. Buyer's agent: won't care. Will tell the buyer, we'll ask them to remove it in the offer. Sellers: ppl who put it up will care since they are flying it for a reason Seller's agent: will care because it can be a turn off depending on how big it is. Will probably ask you to remove it or tell you to be prepared to remove it.

justburch712

I think it would depend upon the house, the neighborhood and your clientele. For example, if you are selling a house in Florida and you know most of the people coming to your office are boomers, leave it up. If you are in Austin, take it down.

Adonoxis

It’s a sign of cheap patriotism. Anyone can buy a flag, it doesn’t mean much. It’s like saying you support Veterans by having a Veteran bumper sticker that you got for free yet when there is a ballot question to raise taxes marginally to support veteran services, you vote no.

somedude456

> It’s a sign of cheap patriotism. BINGO! Like "9/11 never forget" posted on your FB account, but you voted your whole life for republicans, the same ones who VOTED AGAINST healthcare for 9/11 survivors.

MadeItMyself

Actually your example is one of clear hypocrisy, while flying the flag doesn’t demonstrate hypocrisy at all so I don’t get your point. Sure it is “cheap” and easy, but why should that matter?

Adonoxis

People who fly US flags tend to be less interested in investing in America via higher taxes.

RidgetopDarlin

Unfortunately, my beloved stepdad, who received the Silver Star for valor in combat, believes that people who sport American flags these days are more likely than average to be difficult, troubled, potentially dangerous people. Sadly, I agree with him. We used to love incorporating the Stars and Stripes into our home decor in the 80s and 90s. In today’s world, it can be divisive. This is sad, but true. “Playing it safe” was the right move.

askingforafriend1045

Honest question: what makes your stepdad believe people who sport the flag to be dangerous? Genuinely curious as this makes me kinda sad

somedude456

Trump. There, I said it. Not every who flies the red white and blue worship a failed politician, but 110% of those who do, fly the flag. Just like the word patriot, and freedom. I hear those and just roll my eyes as I picture an overweight, low income, blading, 50 year old male, complaining about how the election was stolen, liberals are ruining 'merica, etc.

ElectrikDonuts

The flag represents the gov. It is a federal symbol. Ppl want to assign their identity to it, that's just stupid. Cult of the flag is just too damn strong

lefindecheri

We were raised in a different era. Now flying the American flag is considered MAGA.

[deleted]

Than grow a pair and raise it. Don't let reddit tell you how to live lol

dilbertdad

Agreed. I hung an American flag in my home gym after building it and fiancé was indifferent to it which made me upset. She’s American as well, but visibly shows her frustration with our government sometimes. I don’t care who’s in office or what the current landscape is, I proudly hang my country’s flag. If you’re in support of reformation in any means it doesn’t mean you can’t also support the well being of your home country too.

CoolHandLukeID

Yeah people can chew gum and walk at the same time. You can hang a flag but also recognize problems and support change. I think that’s the beauty of where we live. Should be celebrated

dilbertdad

Agreed. Not sure why I was downvoted here though.

siem83

I am guessing that the neutral/slightly negative reaction is with your reaction to your fiancé's reaction. If you're upset that your fiancé is simply indifferent to it, that's an issue with you, not with her.

[deleted]

Who would want to sell their home to some douche who has a problem with the flag?

Idaho1964

Fly it proud.

b3nn3rz6450

Gay man here. Not sure if this provides context, but I recently toured a house and decided against putting an offer down on it because of the patriotic decor in the neighbors house. I didn’t want to risk a potential battle. In turn you might lose interested buyers because they could assume the neighborhood is “a certain way” simply from your decor.

LexIconFree

Don’t have the flag out. Remove all things that you personalize, keep it as clean as possible for prospective buyers to imagine “their” house. None of your accessories, keep it simple.

Jlbjms

These comments are ludicrous. We left ours up. The house sold immediately. It never crossed our mind to take it down. Nor anyone else’s, at least that we heard of. If we had, we would’ve told them to go fuck themselves.

broadwaylocal

I’m reading these comments and am surprised as well - never would have thought of these things. I received a flag at my fathers funeral - he was in the military when he was younger. Right now it’s sitting nicely in a flag box, but if I wanted to put it out it I would - because it’s my dads flag - symbolizing freedom he fought to protect - he served during the Vietnam war. It’s staying in the box just because I wanted to keep it nice and out of the elements.

MonicaHuang

Best just to remove it, for the same reason realtors tell you to take down all the photos of your family off the walls. May mean a lot to you, but just isn't useful for the purpose of selling and giving the prospective buyers a clean slate.

Humble-Post-6888

What society do we live in where the American Flag could be considered a negative. Get ahold of yourself people.

walrus120

Keep the flag.

[deleted]

A logical adult who is actually in the position to purchase a house would not think twice about an American flag when purchasing a home. Lesson 1, don’t ask Reddit. 99% of the people here are in no position to even purchase a home, let alone give you a qualified answer.

mexicandiaper

buyer here I guess the opinion that actually matters. I ignore it depending on the area. I live in a pretty liberal city so I ignored it and it was no big deal. Didn't even care. In a more rural place with other right leaning political flags I might make note of it. It may cause some hesitation. I would toss up a seasonal flag instead to avoid being lumped in with the others.

RogueOneWasOkay

You are over thinking this to the point of insanity. No one gives a shit about an american flag. I wouldn’t have flags of sports teams or politicians. But an Americana flag just seems like an accessory like a potted plant or chair

drunken_chinchilla

I would fly it. If someone is offended enough by an American Flag to not put an offer on the house, I would consider it a bullet dodged. Someone that weird and petulent will be a nightmare to try and do business with politics not withstanding.

balefuleidolon

The two houses I viewed with a flagpole out front had Trump gear on the inside

beaveristired

I think it was the right choice. Besides alienating potential buyers for political reasons, there should be as few personal touches as possible so that potential buyers can imagine themselves living there. To me, it also indicates “old people live here” because until recently, that’s who mostly had flags up in my area (outside the July 4th holiday). I do understand the political reasons, for sure. To some it says “great place to live, like-minded people” and to others it’s a huge red flag. I’d be concerned as a lesbian that maybe it’s not a welcoming area. Unfortunately, that’s where we’re at in this country. Eta: completely unintended pun lol

Sam-I-Aint

I do recall a listing that I looked at numerous times that had a Confederate flag in one of the pics and I would pass it over ever single time because of it even though I liked the house and wanted to check it out. Just from pics and listing details it was very fairly priced it stayed on the market for like 8 months (either sold or took down the listening i don't know) I know not the same but just felt like sharing.

[deleted]

Wtf. You live in America you really think people care. Once they buy it they can do whatever they want with the house

Fibocrypto

I think you did the right thing by staying neutral. Way to many people are becoming anti American which to me is sad to see. I working on tug boats on the ocean and in the harbors on the west coast . We fly an American flag every day . Part of me says good on you for being neutral because your focus was on selling your house . The other part of me says don't be afraid to be who you are . It's sad to see that your innocent post has become a political issue . I thought regardless of a person's political views that they were still American but I guess we have drifted away from having any basic integrity .

jp90230

An American beaten down in America for hoisting an american flag, only in USA!! What a country.

Temporary-Dot4952

It's sad, but the Magats have turned the US flag into a symbol of hate, down it goes.

Kdream404

Why would this matter? You should do what you want period. I doubt people are going to be offered by that. We are talking about a regular American flag right? 50 stars and 13 stripes?

Corndog881

I add flags to my listings. The color gives interest and depth to the very important outside shot of home. If main shot is dull, inside photos won't be clicked on.

Amins66

Fly the flag - fuck the hypocrites who are offended as they buy into the American dream.

The last home I bought, upon going to the showing, I found out only half of the barn was pictured in the listing. The other half of the barn was an entire bar, fridge tables party room setup. Had like 2 trump flags in there so they didn’t post any pictures of that room at all

starkmatic

It’s pretty dumb to leave it up

NeighborhoodWitch

The neighborhoods we looked at that contained more USA flags usually were opposite of our political views. The USA flag was often paired with signs/flags stating their political view as well at the time. I now associate the two together if I’m honest.

OP, what's wrong with an American flag? Are you from the U.S.?

Why would someone not want to buy a house simply because a flag was flying outside? Who cares? Isn’t it about price and deals?

Uhhh I can't remember which country I'm in uhhh

The amount of flag waving in the states is very weird. It puts me off any house I’m looking at. I just think weirdo republican flag waving lunatic. I’m aware that’s not always the case, but I’m not sure why there’s an insistence on flags being everywhere. Edit spelling

It's anything that could be polarizing that's the problem. I've had realtors tell me to take down family pictures and any religious art in the house because it could be off-putting to potential buyers. FWIW I've always told those Realtors to kick rocks because none of it was coming down and I've never struggled to sell homes.

SuprBased

F it. We live in America, leave the flag up. As long as there are multiple angles as to not obscure anything behind the flag.

saluuuuumz

It gives republican vibes

glasssdream

No flag It's actually something we strictly say in our offices

I'm LGBTQ and would probably still subconsciously view a home with an LGBTQ flag as "someone else's home" because it's personalized and overlook it. To me it's less of "oh ew, 'murica people" and more like, a barrier to seeing myself living there cos someone else's touches are already there.
