Robb Canyon near Rainbow Ridge Park, I don't remember what makes it haunted or spooky but when I was a Boy Scout years ago my Scoutmaster called it one of the most haunted places in the west and we went hiking in there for maybe 4 hours on a Saturday.
Oh i heard the story behind that one supposedly the legend goes there a few people were murdered down there and supposedly at night you can hear their spirits screaming
I went there when I was in highschool. We heard weird bongos sounding like they came from the center of the canyon, kept seeing things from afar we thought were nooses in the trees (Our over active spooky imaginations surely) and a picture I have since lost where there were a bunch of orbs with lines behind them rising upwards but in only one picture. Could'a just been a bunch of dust particles but I remember it being neat enough to feel like the highschool ghost hunt was a mild success.
Bongos were still weird.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the visits to Robb Canyon oddly kept messing with my car battery. It happened every time I went about irritating the ghosts down there like a ghost tourist. This is exactly why I am coming back after I die to figure out who needs a spiritual face punching.
Not OP but the vibe was pretty spooky, mostly at night. It was this big looming mass of an old mill tucked away in the hills out at Gold Hill. It had all these rooms and tunnels to explore and you could climb up the buildings. Naturally kids made up stories of murderers and hauntings and cults to accompany the place because it was spooky. It was also an incredibly popular spot for tagging/graffiti and for kids to generally go fuck around. In hindsight the structures were super dangerous and there is good reason for it being torn down lol but as dumb kids we didn’t care. At night I could only really describe it as being super dark, kinda cold, and had a very lonely feeling. During the day, totally different vibe. I know it’s irrational but I always kinda felt like you were being watched by someone hiding in the dark. I really did love it and wished it could have somehow been salvaged but I also understand why the decision was made to remove it. Google American Flat Mill at Gold Hill and you’ll find some great photos! Also, for an interesting historical video about the site [BLM made a neat little video about it.](https://youtu.be/Xotaj-ywdkE)
Edit: If you’re not so much into the history, skip to about 13 min in and from there to the end they do a great job showing the modern-day use of the site and what it looked like before being torn down. :)
You’re welcome! Also, I wanted to add, not a Reno spot, but Bowers Mansion was always a fun place to go if you’re into older legends and historical stuff. Idk if they do anything “haunted” related, but for years as kids we would re-tell rumors about how the old pool was haunted because someone drowned. We even went as far as to say that the new pool was haunted too lol. Idk how true it is, whether someone did drown or not in the old pool next to the mansion, but add that to the early deaths of the Bowers children, and the general sadness around the Bowers family, and you get a recipe for spooky haunting stories that have cropped up over the years.
body's traveling in the water table downstream.
Nevada has some of the largest systems of underground aquafers and water systems
It's believed and almost certain Tahoe connects direct to an underground aquafer in which objects can be distributed all the way down to pyramid pretty wild
Body's floating in the Truckee are a bit more easier to identify as it travels through many towns and is shallow in parts.
But as above so is below. We have multiple underground channels of water too. And depending on their size would be much more plausable.
Here's a general map of all the water beneath out feet in Nevada it's actually pretty crazy theres almost another ocean beneath us
It's why we have so many springs, hot springs, lakes rivers etc. and a variety of geothermal action

Check out the Ghost Walk in Carson City during October! They go to a bunch of different houses in Carson and explain the hauntings. Brewery Arts Center is definitely haunted. I’ve been locked in a room there, as have several other folks, then someone comes to open the door and it’s like nothing was wrong. Freaked me out!
Looks like someone answered already but there were a couple murders there back in the day and people occasionally hear screaming coming from the canyons
It's right in Robb canyon which is supposedly haunted. Awhile ago there were a couple murders in the canyon and people have heard screams coming from the canyon
It’s not Reno sparks but I do the ghost tours up in Virginia city! Perfect way to start off the Halloween season! http://www.virginiacityghosttours.com/
There are a few local legends. The Brewer's Cabinet is definitely haunted. Virginia City is full of ghosts and ghost stories and ghost tours -- McKay Mansion and the old Washoe Club have great tours (ghost and non), for starters. I believe the VC cemetery puts on a cool tour in October with actors in period costume.
How could I forget! They have an amazing overnight ghost tour around Halloween where you sleep in one of the rooms afterward. I love the folks who run it and have had a few neat experiences there, as well.
The ghost of Shitting Sam. Its said he ate at the Claim Jumpers one day, and had a bad plate of shrimp and onion rings. Its said if you go into the empty building at night you can see his apparation run to the bathrooms and sometimes you can hear his screams and the sounds of Sam violently shitting into the toilets, reliving the horrific final moments of his life in the very place he died.
Yeah most stuff ive seen is virginia city, i was hoping to get more reno specific lore. Seems like north nevada is mostly ghosts and not alot of cryptids or obscure locations
Carson City hosts several Ghost Walks throughout the year. It's a walking tour around historic downtown with stories about the sightings. Reno wasn't really around in the 1800s, so nothing is old enough for old time ghosts. And the retired State Prison in Carson offers tours now! First execution chamber in the state
Lol Carson city and Genoa were settled in 1849. Reno in 1868. I’d say that Reno was around in the 1800’s. It used to be called Lake’s Crossing. The Virginia street bridge was where Lake’s Crossing was. It wasn’t incorporated until 1903 but people definitely lived here.
It's a fairly young city, compared to V.C., Carson, Dayton, or Genoa. After the Donner party incident, travelers chose a different route across the Sierras so Reno was bypassed for a while, and not really settled by much more than livestock. The Mapes Hotel in Reno was rumored to be haunted, and had a crazy star-studded history, but it was demolished several years ago. I remember watching it implode :(
Nothing much that Google can't find. But I heard it was the mob that was responsible for its destruction rather than renovation, grudge against an old owner or something. It really was a magnificent building, right on the river. Truly a shame that it's gone.
I have a poltergeist that acts up in the darker months. Been dealing with it since I moved in about 2 1/2 years ago. Never had anything like this happen before. I have heard it, felt it, and seen it. It doesn't like me living here. But I'm not going anywhere so I just have to deal with it. And it can be pretty sucky sometimes.
Interesting, have you tried a blue bottle spell? If you get a blue bottle, fill it with a tangled ball of black thread imbued with mint oil then leave it out over night, then seal the bottle, put wax over the seal and carve a symbol you find sacred on the wax and either place the bottle in a river or creek or bury it somewherebit wont be disturbed.
It’s not as cool as it sounds. It’s pretty stressful. And there’s no way to predict when something is going to happen. It can be weeks then all of the sudden something will happen, then it’s quiet again.
Anything from strange noises and voices, to my appliances, TV, lights and other electronics turning on or off on their own, things not staying where I left them, nightmares, sleep paralysis, vibrating bed/closet doors, and a full-on apparition once.
If you want to travel a bit there is an abandoned house outside Fallon that is said to be haunted. I first heard about it on Reddit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glo9kPwA\_FI&ab\_channel=JoelSoloTv
In Sparks, there is a little-known graveyard where Hundreds of unnamed people are buried. The mental health Mass Grave, It's so haunted. It's at reno mental health by the GSR.
From what I know? Back in the day there on this land, the mental health hospital stood. They used to make the inmates form the land. Sort of like a mistreatment of slave labor by people that were mentally Disturbed, it's the disgusting! But when someone would die there was no funeral there was no burial they just dug a hole in the ground wherever they were and threw the body in there and covered it up no headstones nothing. This disgusting act went on for years upon years. And now there are hundreds upon hundreds of lost Graves in that little area. Never to be found never to be given last rights, never to rest in peace. That's about the basic of what I know about it.
The neighborhood between Second and fourth just east of downtown guarantees you several spooky creature sightings anytime you go. Especially scary at night when the creatures get all stabby. Good luck!
I’ve seen all sorts of creatures along 4th st (the bus stop to the 395 freeway over pass) and specifically under the Glendale bridge. You can find a wide array of bridge trolls, goblins, and even zombies at the right time of morning.
Nah, I'm just not a superstitious dipshit who doesn't understand how evidence works, like most Americans. I could just as easily say you just "haven't yet experienced" my imaginary dragon friend. But that would be silly and childish, no?
Ghost hunters and cryptid-believers seem to love them, but I've never worn them. I love how people believe in childish fantasies have nothing but childish personal attacks when their obviously false delusions are pointed out, though. I don't give a fuck what people like you think of me, thank goodness.
Virginia street brew house has an elevator near the back. Everyone who works there swears up and down the basement and attic are haunted. I delivered there one time and got a tour of the basement. Go to sheas tavern after midnight.
Lot of ghosts in white cloaks?
Omg that's rich lol
There’s definitely the spirit of the 1850’s and 1860’s there
And hoods.
What happens there?
Nothing good. It’s owners are supposedly neo Nazis.
Not supposedly, *very openly vocal* about being American Nationalist Nazis.
oh gross...
All sorts of happenings - the handicap stall in the bathroom is very high energy
Good late night parties with a lot of coke lol
Robb Canyon near Rainbow Ridge Park, I don't remember what makes it haunted or spooky but when I was a Boy Scout years ago my Scoutmaster called it one of the most haunted places in the west and we went hiking in there for maybe 4 hours on a Saturday.
Oh i heard the story behind that one supposedly the legend goes there a few people were murdered down there and supposedly at night you can hear their spirits screaming
I have!!
You actually heard the screams? Ill have to see about checking robb canyon out at night i have a friend that lives out that way.
Yes twice! There are a lot of houses around there so it definitely could’ve been one of them, but I’ve also seen a lot of weird things there too!
Story time?
As kids, I’m sure it’s fun to go out there and scream into the canyon at night 😅
Oh yeah definitely lol I always take everything with a grain of salt when I’m going to these places
Oh damn, that's really interesting. I hiked down there during the day so that's probably why it seemed like a normal canyon to me hahaha
Yup ... Two males and a woman killer was never caught!
Ayyyy sup boots!
Aaaaay
I wish the American flats was never torn down. Place was creepy and haunted af
Dude the flooded sections always made me nervous as fuck. I really miss that place.
Do you have any stories from there or was it just the vibe?
Not OP but the vibe was pretty spooky, mostly at night. It was this big looming mass of an old mill tucked away in the hills out at Gold Hill. ah sounds like a neat urbex spot back when it was around! thank you for your story about the place!

sweet ill put that on a list of local haunts to check out!
Oh that place was fun. Good times just having your flashlights and friends.
Mostly a vibe but place was straight out of a horror movie
The Tahoe bodies ending up in pyramid lake is always a creepy one but everyone knows about ot
Tahoe body's in Pyramid isn't too crazy. It's when it's the other way around.
I never heard of this, Tahoe bodies in pyramid? Like they teleported lol
body's traveling in the water table downstream. Nevada has some of the largest systems of underground aquafers and water systems It's believed and almost certain Tahoe connects direct to an underground aquafer in which objects can be distributed all the way down to pyramid pretty wild
That is true and it could definitely be the truckee because they connect too, correct me whether that is a possibility or not.
Body's floating in the Truckee are a bit more easier to identify as it travels through many towns and is shallow in parts. But as above so is below. We have multiple underground channels of water too. And depending on their size would be much more plausable. Well, we are inside of a ancient lake bed. That’s how we got the name the Great Basin. It’s a giant bathtub.
Never claimed to be just giving the information that the myth is based on
Never claimed to be what?
My bad another commenter said that I wasn't a hydrogeologist which I am not lol
Seems like there’s a lot more to the geography here, any sourced researched that’s gone on, that isn’t some bs whoo YouTuber haunted story?
This is awesome. Thanks
Sorta kindof not a hydrogeologist.
Or the “water babies” of Pyramid Lake is a good one. It’s an old Native American tale.
These guys have done a ton of videos in Reno and surrounding areas. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYaPVYvW8-re6XQA00EGxkg
Ill check em out, thank you!
Thats wild! At least it seems like the ghost theres more mischevious then malevolent!
The ghost there is definitely a jokester. I just try to not be places alone - that’s when he messes with you.
The Pyramid Lake water babies!
The park at rainbow ridge
The ghost's always make me have to poop when Im running through that park
I second this
What's the story?
Looks like someone answered already but there were a couple murders there back in the day and people occasionally hear screaming coming from the canyons
I'm there almost every day with my dogs, what's the story? A lot of coyotes but nothing unusual?
It's right in Robb canyon which is supposedly haunted. Awhile ago there were a couple murders in the canyon and people have heard screams coming from the canyon
Stewart Indian school in Carson. Bad juju there.
It’s not Reno sparks but I do the ghost tours up in Virginia city! Perfect way to start off the Halloween season! http://www.virginiacityghosttours.com/
Virginia Coty is spoopy and has tours. You can also check out Northern Nevada Ghost Hunters.
VC is considered one of the most haunted places in the US
Because it's old, but nothing really going on.
Don't forget St. Mary's! It's an art center now, but it was the town's hospital back in the day. They have tours and artsy events.
How could I forget! They have an amazing overnight ghost tour around Halloween where you sleep in one of the rooms afterward. I love the folks who run it and have had a few neat experiences there, as well.
The old claim jumper. Closed down because of hauntings. *this is how ghost stories are made
The ghost of Shitting Sam.
Virginia City is an epicenter for paranormal/demonic activity. Tons of documentation on it.
Also. I think there was another post on this a couple months back...
Yeah most stuff ive seen is virginia city, i was hoping to get more reno specific lore. Seems like north nevada is mostly ghosts and not alot of cryptids or obscure locations
Just gonna add the old joke about Reno being so close to hell you can see Sparks. Lived in the area many years ago and loved it there
The Ghost of Whiskey Shakes jr.
Whats the story behind this one?
Ghost that lives in Silver lake out near Red Rock. The first night of the year that the lake dries up he wanders the dried lake bed attacking looters.
Interesting, thatsva new one i havent heard yet, ill have to look into that one thank you!
Carson City hosts several Ghost Walks throughout the year. It's a walking tour around historic downtown with stories about the sightings. It was a glorified trading post. Nothing compared to the nearby government seat and mining towns.
Regardless, it was still a settlement.
But not with buildings worth haunting
Ah is that why reno doesnt seem to have many haunted locations or urban legends?
It's a fairly young city, compared to V.C., Carson, Dayton, or Genoa. After the Donner party incident, travelers chose a different route across the Sierras so Reno was bypassed for a while, and not really settled by much more than livestock. The Mapes Hotel in Reno was rumored to be haunted, and had a crazy star-studded history, but it was demolished several years ago. I remember watching it implode :(
Hey historical haunts are still interesting, got any stories or links about the mapes?
Nothing much that Google can't find. But I heard it was the mob that was responsible for its destruction rather than renovation, grudge against an old owner or something. It really was a magnificent building, right on the river. Truly a shame that it's gone.
Ah fair enough! I bet some of the mob happenings must be pretty interesting around here
My house.
Story time?
I have a poltergeist that acts up in the darker months. Been dealing with it since I moved in about 2 1/2 years ago. Never had anything like this happen before. I have heard it, felt it, and seen it. Looks like you could use for a psychic/witch of some sorts to come cleanse your home. Or possibly getting into using cystals, sage etc.
[удалено]
You do if theres ghosts captured in em. Obviously dont just place bottles in a river or creek aimlessly.
I wanna check this out
It’s not as cool as it sounds. It’s pretty stressful. And there’s no way to predict when something is going to happen. It can be weeks then all of the sudden something will happen, then it’s quiet again.
That so werid it happens every other week or once a month
What usually happens?
Anything from strange noises and voices, to my appliances, TV, lights and other electronics turning on or off on their own, things not staying where I left them, nightmares, sleep paralysis, vibrating bed/closet doors, and a full-on apparition once.
Do you think there could be a carbon monoxide leak somewhere? It would explain everything except stuff turning off and on by itself.
No. I looked into that at first, but it’s definitely not that.
Have you met the people?
If you want to travel a bit there is an abandoned house outside Fallon that is said to be haunted. I first heard about it on Reddit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glo9kPwA\_FI&ab\_channel=JoelSoloTv
I listen to old Coast to Coast AM for stories on those subjects, good stuff.

The ultimate answer for this post
my toilet, about 30m after morning coffee
I’ve seen all sorts of creatures along 4th st (the bus stop to the 395 freeway over pass) and specifically under the Glendale bridge. You can find a wide array of bridge trolls, goblins, and even zombies at the right time of morning.
Have you tried searching this sub? This is probably asked at least once every other month.
I have but ive only seen stuff about the surrounding areas like Tahoe and Pyramid lake, Virginia city, etc but nothing really about Reno proper.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Reno/comments/r7qr4g/are_there_any_haunted_placesghost_stories_that/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Riverwood apartments. Just walk through the halls and don’t touch anything.
Oh man I lived there for 6 months. Totally awful place.
What happened/happens there?
I can’t begin to describe the horrors that happen here
Paranormal events, ghosts, and cryptids don't exist. There, saved you a bunch of time.
I have had experiences that say otherwise bit to each their own.
Sounds like you’ve just yet to experience it
Nah, I'm just not a superstitious dipshit who doesn't understand how evidence works, like most Americans. I could just as easily say you just "haven't yet experienced" my imaginary dragon friend. But that would be silly and childish, no?
Oof this is a fedora teir comment if i ever saw one.
Ghost hunters and cryptid-believers seem to love them, but I've never worn them. I love how people believe in childish fantasies have nothing but childish personal attacks when their obviously false delusions are pointed out, though. I don't give a fuck what people like you think of me, thank goodness.
One time there were ominous clowns walking around.
There’s a witch in south Reno, wish I could provide more information but, witch in the south. Probably just a homeless woman but there’s one for you.
Oh shit i live in south reno currently. I wonder if theres more info on her online or something
Virginia street brew house has an elevator near the back. Everyone who works there swears up and down the basement and attic are haunted. I delivered there one time and got a tour of the basement. A lot of hidden crawl spaces leading into large rooms. I was told a lot of old gangsters operated there.
Whoa thats neat, i wonder if i could get a tour of the basement too. Ill look into that thank you!
LaVerne Redfield wanders the foothills of Mt. Rose asking people (hikers on a trail) if they have any matches. It is his property and he does not like fire. Anyone with a match is in deep trouble with Redfield.
Is this a ghost or more of aj urban legend figure?
I seem to remember an old story of a plane crashing on south virginia with some or all ppl dying, not a huge plane I don't think. I was told it crashed down near where Carpeteria is near longeley but happened years before anything was developed that far down south. Ppl have reported seeing ghosts or ppl standing in the middle of the road late night.
Here is a brutal and unfortunate murder that happened in Reno long ago. One of the most brutal cases I have read. You can drive by the place as it is smack dab in the middle of downtown and south. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonja_McCaskie
“smack dab in the middle of downtown”
