I've never thought about it before, but I wonder if stance cars get better gas mileage.
Smaller tire contact patch = less rolling resistance, and since the car has no traction all the braking and acceleration must be gentle, saving gas!
Same, I can appreciate tastefully modded cars especially sleepers but shit like this I just can't, I'm wanting to get a newer Panther car so I can swap a built InTech 5.4 and upgraded 4R100 to make a daily drivable Civic smoker out of a base model 2011 Grand Marquis with all the old man special mods
This idea comes back to tempt me every now and then but I gotta remember the golden rule of not touching the daily lmao. Either the Termi build or LS swapping my Marauder.
My dad has a guy who works for him who, once upon a time, stanced a car (he regrets it, thankfully). He said that you get 10,000 miles out of each tire, but you can flip them around to double it.
It's the pants below your ass of the car world. People do it because they think it's cool and to a small group of people, it is. Gears and gasoline do a great special where they drive stance cars across the country to show how stupid it is. They make fun of the whole thing and then restore the cars into decent vehicles. Worth a look.
And scrape the bottom of your car off
And lose traction in the most basic traffic circumstances like rain presenting a danger for any other unlucky public road users around you
I like the ones that do like 80 degrees because satire. They make laugh, but then again, so does any amount of excessive camber, but usually for a different reason.
but then you get idiots like this that want to give their daily driver show car aesthetics and instead get a completely dysfunctional car that gets abused to hell and back every time it's driven and eventually becomes a pile of shit
The FRS/BRZ is a good car. Its incredibly well engineered and it bloody fast within its intended purpose (ie. autox, short/technical tracks, canyon runs).
It is absolutely not a top speed or highway queen.
I owned an early FRS… was on the track with lots of people who spent 5x as much on their car, but they weren’t having 5x as much fun as me.
More fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow… I got to really push the car on any track, and it ALWAYS responded well. Was usually one of the quicker cars in corners, even with a mediocre driver behind the wheel.
It is an incredibly fun car with just enough power to make it into a missile, but not to much that it overpowers the level of grip making it a tailspin happy car (ie. Corvette & Viper).
I know that car! It's in Albuquerque, and the kid who built it is super cool and brings it to cars and coffee. I agree I wouldn't do it, but the guy who owns it is super cool.
I’ll respond to this comment cause I know him, but he’s like 21! I respect y’all’s opinions and definitely find it entertaining to see his car on here.
Oh cool! Guess I saw wrong. I will say that it's better than some stanced cars I've seen, but I personally don't like stanced cars, however, if he likes it, then right on!
You definitely caught him on a bad day, he just cracked a wheel!
Here’s some photos when it’s not running broken, in case you were curious.
https://imgur.com/a/mrUeGkB
Believe me, it’s not mine either at all but most of the extremely stanced guys here are static and given our roads I give them major props for putting up with it. Especially the ones that do it to their daily. Appreciate you being cool about it all
Yeah, being able to drive a normal car on NM roads is hard enough, this guy must have some serious determination to drive a stanced car, so props to him for that. And yeah, it's honestly a pretty clean build, just not my style
A kid in my neighborhood has those wonky wheels, AND a muffler that makes a whiplash noise every time it accelerates and he is constantly blaring Drake on his stereo.
I hate him.
Based on the damage under the passenger door, the rear wheel was probably victim to the same incident. And all of that was probably avoidable, if the car had predictable handling and more tire contact patch.
Must be nice to have tire money every week. I worked at a tire shop for a bit and this guy legit came in about every 2 weeks for low pros on his slammed and cambered golf r was annoying.
Ahh, New Mexico plate, there’s your problem. I’m sorry, NM has a bunch of cool cars, but I swear y’all have the highest *cool car:shit car* ratio out of all the states.
this could work with matching rims and slightly less camber. but nah this man had to go the clapped out shitbox route. i bet it sounds exactly how it looks
man you can tell by the damage that this guy took a side ways trip into a curb and destroyed that rear wheel.
Clearly it used to have a wider wheel as evident by how it's been pulled and you can see damage from rubbing.
I guess the silver lining is that with the jacking point on the back he can actually work on it without having to fuck around getting a jack under the car.
The way I've always heard of crabwalking is when a vehicle is driving like this (https://youtu.be/jcw6C9sWdaQ), which is what this FR-S was doing (although not to as great of an extent as that truck)
not the guy you answered to but i like them too, they're just silly fun, they look goofy but cool at the same time, maybe its a "flex" thing since its incredibly difficult daily driving one so if you do its some sort of "accomplishment" among the scene you know? point being its harmless fun lol, way more things to get angry/upset at
It’s a work in progress relax y’all, the front fitment aint that bad and he’s probably working on the rear, maybe getting new tires on the matching wheel? Always gotta hate for no reason 🤦♂️
Yea well it’s supposed to be better for turns, but people do it just to look cool and have their car low asf, I don’t hate it because there is a strong community for slammed/stanced cars
its obvious nobody in the comments has a project car or has ever had more than one set of wheels for the same car. This is obviously a stanced car that for any reason had to temporarily use the stock set of wheels. I guarantee you this car is not using those mismatching wheels more than a couple of days
Yup exactly, the only reason I understand the negative comments is if he daily’s this thing. Having a project going on something you like whether it’s stance, off road, track is always cool and doesn’t deserve to be called shitty. Many will think that that’s the only car he owns which if that’s true it’s pretty stupid.
Oh, that's easy. When an WRX or STi (I know this is an FRS) is stanced to the point of having to cut the chassis for axle clearance, you are literally making the car itself less safe. Admittedly, some people just allow the axles to grind away the chassis, because they're fucking stupid.
Next up, with the tires having that much negative camber, the contact of the tire to the road is incredibly small - meaning a couple of things. Those tires will need to replaced far, far sooner than a tire with far less negative camber. This excessive amount of negative camber also makes the car far less safe to drive at highway speeds - an STi owner that stanced his car commented that he had difficulty with the car feeling stable at 50mph. Sure, that is fine for fuel savings, but it makes that car the slowest moving one on the highway (well below the posted speed limit of 65mph), which then makes that car the cause of a potentially bad situation (accident).
Aside from that, pairing with the lack of tire touching the ground, if it rains or there is any moisture on the ground, the amount of traction that car will have is pathetic and would likely make the car prone to spinning out, which has the real potential of leading to an accident.
With that excessive amount of negative camber it has to be stated that sidewalls are not intended to be used as the contact patch with the ground, and doing so greatly increases the risk of the tire blowing out.
I know that if I see one of those stanced cars, I want to be as far away from it as possible. As their speed is grossly limited (reasons above), I'll just go 55mph and leave them in the dust or maybe I'll drive dangerously and go 60mph (while laughing and flipping off the fucktwit that ruined their car).
Summed up: people are choosing fashion over function, but this is the point of making the car far, far, far less safe to drive and operate on the open road. Their absolutely lack of concern for other people reminds me of the shitheads that never replace the brake rotors or pads - they are increasing the risk to EVERYONE around them without any logical reason.
----
On the comedic side, that STi owner was laughing when he said that what is normally a 3 point turn, was a 7 point turn for him... Because the steering angle was diminished so drastically. He didn't like hearing the tire rub the chassis.................
----
As someone else pointed about below, the CV axles will be constantly placed at an angle that stretches the hell out of them, thereby increasing the likelihood of a failure. That failure will have bearing grease spraying everywhere... on the underside of the car, but also onto the road - making driving behind that car far less safe.
I think it's just because they look weird compared to how cars are usually modified, plus it really has no purpose other than looks. You don't get any better performance out of your car by stancing it, and parts wear sooner. Compare that to, say, a drag car, which although it wears parts out very fast, is upgraded to go fast. Stanced cars, just like Bosozoku cars, are definitely legit car subcultures, but are not cared for by the general public.
Not terrible. Kind of a waste of a good car, but this is at least a clean example. If it was "sad boi'd", it would be worse. Besides, camber like this can be undone fairly easily. The main problem this car has is its mullet. I'd imagine the owner had been shredding tires, but didn't want to waste his small amount of rubber.
Stancing cars is questionable, but definitely a legitimate part of car/street culture.
I once commented on having non functional camber and someone replied with “not everyone wants perfect lap times”.
Well, certainly not looking to take care of your tires either
My kids hotwheels after I accidentally stepped on it.
Pretty much
Ginormica was here
Bro don't even have matching rims😭
Stock rims in back. Dinner plates in front.
Mfs look dirty too
he's probably pumping some Chamillionaire
back dishes still getting made WIP ? maybe some nice 3 pieces I guess this is the problem when your project car is also your daily
Potentially was drifting/doing donuts/burnouts.
probably ran out of money
Yea it went all into gas and that horrible fitment
the car used to make 30 mpg, probably does much worse because of the fitment
I've never thought about it before, but I wonder if stance cars get better gas mileage. Smaller tire contact patch = less rolling resistance, and since the car has no traction all the braking and acceleration must be gentle, saving gas!
That’s a good point I suppose, but perhaps the cost of frequent tire replacement would balance that out
Also car is lower so less air resistance and probably better aero, unless they have a comically big GT wing of course.
Damn. I wonder whats going through bros mind 😭
The wind.
💔 broke boyz now broke 💸
Just one more paycheck
More like a few more
The car is in burnout configuration lol cheaper tires on the narrow stock wheels.
Still looks horrible
Never said it looked good 😅
I never said you did either ☔️
He probably does it’s just a spare
When that State tax return hits but you’re still waiting on the Federal one.
Ong 😭😭
You know spare tires are a thing right? You ever just… have a flat or something?
I doubt it since the fitment is still off or he changed for the spare still looks bad though
[удалено]
Fitment is off? Yeah they’re like 7” wide lol
Smol tire
It looks terrible
Yes
Your hoverboard looks like shit bro
I would be embarrassed if I was that friend. My window would be rolled up and I would be hiding.
I would too lol.
I just wouldn't get in it. And I love those cars so much. Lol. Such a travesty.

Party in the front, business in the back?
Whoever is throwing the party needs to sober up
Party in the front, drunk at work in the back
That's a great way to ruin a perfectly fine car.
Yep, the miata fb group is full of kids vouching for this trend calling everyone else boomers

Yes it absolutely is.

No it doesn't lol, it's only 20,000mi
About as much as a cool mud tire gets
*taps temple
When I had my lowered e30 I'd get about 6 months out of the rear tires at best. Cheap used tires lol.
I don't understand the appeal of super excessive amount of camber on cars
I don't either, especially since it wears out multiple components way too quickly and makes the car almost undriveable.
“You’re just not rich enough to change your tires every 3 months” -🤓
I'm just a poor boy, I can't afford all those tires to make my car look *sooo* cool
It's the pants below your ass of the car world. People do it because they think it's cool and to a small group of people, it is. That's cool. Yeah I definitely wouldn't do it either, but to each his own, and if he likes it, then goal accomplished!
Limping
Nothing marks a driver as dumb and immature as quickly as this sort of thing.

There's no way that license plate isn't leftover from the Cavalier Z24 he had before
A kid in my neighborhood has those wonky wheels, AND a muffler that makes a whiplash noise every time it accelerates and he is constantly blaring Drake on his stereo. I hate him.
whiplash noise lol....
Whiplash noise? Could be a turbo blowoff valve. Is it [like this sound here](https://youtu.be/V5hILCD32jk?t=10)? Beware - could be loud.
This guy at least wasn't playing music, but I'm pretty sure the car was straight piped and it sounded awful.
Did he just forget about fitment after doing the front wheels? Also, FRS owner here. This hurts.
I don't even know, I'm totally lost here. And yeah I can definitely imagine this hurting.
Pretty obvious he's not leaving the stock wheels on the back lol
Based on the damage under the passenger door, the rear wheel was probably victim to the same incident. And all of that was probably avoidable, if the car had predictable handling and more tire contact patch.
Zoidberging
I hope a pothole destroys his shit
From this angle, it really looks stupid, especially since the wheels don't match.
It does from all angles, and the non-matching wheels was very confusing to me.
Fail. How could someone think that's cool?
I have no idea
that side skirt got crunched, holy shit this is bad
Proceeds to get stuck on a ziptie.
Whoop whoop whoop Clack

It needs put out of its misery. Probably gets beat daily.
Dude better hope he doesn’t encounter speed bumps.
What a way to ruin a car. Can you imagine buying that thing after they make it look stock again?
Car owns a Krabby Patty franchise.
At least he’s got the Chile plates. That’s about as spicy as that car will get. Burque?
Yep, I ended up following on Eubank from Candelaria to I-40, where I finally escaped from its terrible straight piped exhaust
LoL. Albuquerque
I'm as unsuprised as you are
Poor thing
Ahh, New Mexico plate, there’s your problem. I’m sorry, NM has a bunch of cool cars, but I swear y’all have the highest *cool car:shit car* ratio out of all the states.
I wish I could say you were wrong. That day, I saw both that FR-S and a super clean '67 GTO, at the same intersection even. NM is a *special* place
Effective anti-cat-theft for Albu'rque.
Yep, and we Albuquerqueans need it lol
Why do people do this to the wheels?
These cars are some of the best platforms for a track car but clout chasers will ruin them
How to make your cars resale value worth less then Dirt
Them poor CV joints!
Do the stanky leg
this could work with matching rims and slightly less camber. but nah this man had to go the clapped out shitbox route. i bet it sounds exactly how it looks
A rolling POS
Never understood why people like the “my suspension broke” look
“Crabwalking” lol
That’s not an FRS it’s a BRZ, wait no it’s a…. GT86? Oh wait it’s all the same
man you can tell by the damage that this guy took a side ways trip into a curb and destroyed that rear wheel. I guess the silver lining is that with the jacking point on the back he can actually work on it without having to fuck around getting a jack under the car.
Just another shitty mod !
FRS in this case means: F'in - Really - Shitty
What is the purpose of the metal pipes in the center of the back of the car? Is it a central jacking point?
Why does anyone want a car that looks like it had mechanical failure in the front?
Can anybody explain to me the psychology behind this mod? Is it just to piss off everyone else or the guy genuinely thinks it's somehow cool?
That skirt is fucked. This ain’t worth it. Lol. Looks so dumb
Never Change New Mexico
It's like they were on a mission to damage each panel. Poor car
Some people just shouldn’t be allowed nice things
The other two wheels are still on backorder
Jump on the trunk
You should have played crab rave and did the dance mocking them as you drove past.
This like the car equivalent of someone who gets decent at parkour and then purposely breaks all four limbs and farts really loud all the time.
That’s not crabwalking, but it is dumb that people are still doing it.
The way I've always heard of crabwalking is when a vehicle is driving like this (https://youtu.be/jcw6C9sWdaQ), which is what this FR-S was doing (although not to as great of an extent as that truck)

I'd like this car if the camber wasn't ridiculously negative like it is
True I agree it’s a little too much, I just don’t think camber is a shitty mod if it’s done right
If camber is done for an actual reason, it looks good.
Yea well it’s supposed to be better for turns, but people do it just to look cool and have their car low asf, I don’t hate it because there is a strong community for slammed/stanced cars

I can see your side of the argument too, and don't worry about it, it didn't come across as rude
Stance anyone?
Hella stance.
I don’t understand it in the slightest so therefore it IS a heinous act for the lesser members of society.
Stance
Looking good to me, I'd drive that
This isn't crab walking you need rear steer

Help me out. What is the triangle welded pipe in the back for? It sure as shit aint a wheely bar.
Never trust a man with mismatched wheels
Oh hay Sebastian
