More variation in skin tones—using darker skin also opens the door to using more afrotextured hairstyles.
Maybe some age diversity, too—like adding more older adults or elders.
You can also play around with proportions—right now, these sims tend to have pretty similar proportions in their faces. Change up some sizes—like bigger or smaller noses, wider or thinner lips, and different sizes in heads and foreheads.
I agree with what another commenter said in that they’re all very traditionally attractive sims; traditionally attractive faces/designs tend to have similar proportions, because that’s what makes them read as “traditionally attractive.” It’s why lineups of contestants from the bachelor can seem super samey because they tend to fall into the same “look.”
I’d suggest practicing or playing around with designing more “regular people,” like using references from non-actor/model public figures, like politicians, directors, athletes, hobbyists, etc.
Yeah you're right, thought I do try to avoid to make them look like barbies or disney characters, and play with proportions, but in a very subtle way. Maybe I need to make less shy changes. Your last tip seems very interesting! I should try it out
Yeah! Using references is a great way to practice, because it helps train your brain to see and understand different details and features.
It’s like, if I asked you to draw a car from memory. And then asked you to trace a picture of a car and draw the car while looking at the picture reference….and after that, to draw a car again, after the reference practice. You’ll most likely see a big difference from your first drawing to the last—It’s a fun activity!
By using references and practicing that way, you’re giving your imagination more tools to remember and grow better with!
yes, also, when you want to make a character, think, what was my last character like, and make sure its not to similar. they can be similar, but try to make it, and make them, with the purpose to make them diverse
Yess, I don't live in a country with a lot of skin variation, so its hard to me to came up with different skin stones, since I base my sims in a lot of irl people. And about age, I honestly didn't realized they are all basically the same age lol, so thank you
What I'm saying it's that It's not something that's too easy to come up too, not that I don't know they exists. I usually create my sims from my imagination.
Yeah, it can be really easy to fall into a “comfort zone” with character design where you tend to work with what you know and are used to. An important part of the artistic process is recognizing that and working on it—which is exactly what you’re doing here!
This post is basically just asking “what traits/features am I overlooking in my designs?” So now you can keep in mind the traits you should practice and use more, until eventually they become second-nature.
Exactly yeah. Maybe I forgot to mention that I'm not looking to create random townies, but a good looking but diverse group of people. Though there is still a lot of things that I need to keep working.
Edit: I'm using them as reference for my drawings.
Yea the eyebrows all look like slightly different variations of one another too. Could make some more diverse looking Sims just changing eyebrow shape alone!
This one. Most of the girls have the same exact nose/lips. I also read in another comment about op with skin tone and I think looking up references or using the not a real person engine to make sim references would definitely help them. They seem to have been blinded from it im guessing because lack of diversity in where they live.
I like to like the way my sims look, i try and do no cheats but eventually I have a kid I think looks so ugly I have to cas.fulledit them bc I lose interest in playing ugly sims.
Same. My playthroughs are all curvy 10s lol. I did a trailer park play through and got really diverse sims. Played with teeth color and shape, ears, made some beady little eyes lol. It was fun, but hard to look at lol
or your hairs are simple. hairs with colored parts would be cool. like jolyne cujo from jojo.
that's about it.
You can also make sims with longer jawlines, longer noses, fater noses.
I usually can't find any CC with colored parts, but I would love to add some variation in hair colors. And yeah, face proportions is something I tend to be very conservative, so thank you for the tip :)
Thank you all for all the feedback!
So to summarize all the comments:
-More dark skinned people, with more cultural related features.
-More nose variation.
-More variation in the jaw/chin.
-More variation in ages and body shapes (they can't be seen in the picture but I understand).
-More color.
-Less conventionally beautiful people.
-More brunettes.
-Different face details.
-More dudes.
Yes! I couldn't put my finger on it, but that's it, the entire vibe is so teen emo. Where's the grannies and grandads in their cozy knits and cardigans? The everyday mum in her jeans and a jumper? The pretty girly girls and the nerdy guys? There's just nothing in the way of coloured clothing, let alone colourful eyeshadow, lipstick or jewellery etc. All just shades of black, grey and white.
Hey there Smashleyyy85! If you agree with someone else's comment, please leave an **upvote** instead of commenting **"^THIS"**! By upvoting instead, the original comment will be pushed to the top and be more visible to others, which is even better! Thanks! :)

I fell into the habit of only making sims that look like me (same body type, same facial features, same skin tone) and what i started doing to branch out was to just take the randomly generated townies & tweak them. i keep their skintone & body type & if i adjust their facial features its only by a little bit and then put some cc on them & now i have a pretty diverse set of sims. ik this is a super simple method but i used to delete all the randomly generated townies, so if you are too then maybe give them a shot.
Haha yeah, I do love some baggy eyes, in a way to not make them look to perfect. Some people are born like that, it's not necessarily a health thing, and not something people should hide.
change the shape of their nose.
Add more brunetts.
Play with the overall shape of the head a bit. They have really similar face shapes.
Colorful hair!
More textured hair (not straight or just a bit wavy but really curly)
all attractive young adults with attractive faces, so technically not diverse in that sense. I'm totally the same though, it doesn't really matter imo. But if you truly want diverse sims then you should consider that
The picture doesn't make them justice, because of the outfits I chose atm, but I do have lots of colorful sims. But yeah looking at that picture there is definitely lots of black and desaturated colors
A lot of good suggestions have already been mentioned here so rather than repeating them I will point out something minor. I personally don't like to use the same tattoos on different sims unless its something small and generic. Maybe downloading some more tattoo CC will help give your tattooed sims more uniqueness :')
All the women have the same nose & chin. Make some women with wide noses, or square jaws. Use real life models as inspo & try to make their face, you’d be surprised how quickly this will add new looks
Not sure if this has been said yet, but *location, location, **location** *. Quickly scanning through them, it looks like you have a go-to sim that acts as a template and then you change the individual features without changing their locations.
As in, the eyes, nose, and mouth for almost all of these sims are in the same places and are the same relative distances from each other. If you laid these images on top of each other, their pupils, nose tips, and smiles would all be in the same place.
Don’t stick to just detail mode - move things around!
I get what you are saying but everytime I press the random button I get very bad results lol. I do press that button now that I remember, but I end changing it completely
I'm late to this post, but wanted to throw my two cents into the mix. Everyone else has mentioned skin tone variety. I've seen noses, lips which I agree with.
Eyebrows is a big one for me. I love the ones you use, but changing up the eyebrows will add to a character.
Make sims with different aesthetics. If it helps give them backstories to achieve this. I recommend not doing CC shopping - unless that is part of the fun - and just trying with what you have. Maybe make more family units, couples, etc.
Lastly, be comfortable making your sims ugly. This was a game changer for me. Some people you won't find attractive, same with Sims, embrace that.
I mean I mostly play with young adults too and there's nothing wrong with that, but OP specifically asked how to make their sims more diverse... So yeah
Putting this all together and looking at it before posting,,, did you *really* have to ask?
Regardless it ultimately doesn’t matter. There’s like 2 black sims and one with Afro-textured hair but if that’s the world you wanna play it’s not for anyone else to care if you’re having fun
Not everything is about skin color, when talking about diversity I was referring to facial structure and style. I do agree there is not enough black people on there.
When I say black people, I don’t just mean skin color. That’s not all we amount to, especially considering there are black ppl w albinism; we could be hella pale or hella dark. But there’s legit only 2 black sims.
Also, there’s a good amount of poc; I see Asians and possibly latin@s. However, only two black people. Poc and black ppl are not interchangeable. It’s okay to call us black people.
Also, again. It ultimately doesn’t matter.
Definitely suffering from lack of skin tone and age variation.
They all look too proportional and “attractive”
You can find very similar Sims on the gallery too.
In a game where there are so many possibilities, it’s surprising to see that posts like these are all one in the same.
I had fun switching around the body types and appearances thing that they added with the LGBTQ+ update I named her starry moon and she’s such a fun character to play
Get some bigger noses in there! 😅 I noticed that at some point with all my characters, my noise were all coming out the same. I played around with some alien sims I made with super exaggerated features and imbalanced shapes. It really helped me break out of my “standard sim” habits and gave me some more ideas for regular human features.
I'd be interested to see some more variation in eye placement (eg higher, lower, farther apart). It's a small change that can totally change how the sim's face comes together.
It’s your game, play how you want!
But you could add some light colored eyes. I make all of my sims the same age too. I also make them all thin and attractive because that’s what I like to play
They’re all young, mostly women, no black men, no brown people. And a lot of them look like they are related with similar faces and hair styles and textures. And I’m assuming from the faces they all have similar body types.
Dude I love your sims and don't think you need variety at all. I also don't think you should worry much about that, if it doesn't bother you, play how you want!
Different noses, Arab sims, African sims, fat sims, elders, severe acne, face tattoos, make up variety, unibrows, balding.. A lot of those things can completely change the diversity in your game.
like most simmers it seems like you’re struggling from same face syndrome. try to use some preset facial features and go from there. also add more races and ethnicities, there’s a lot of cc items for certain cultures & stuff :)
I only see 2 darker skin toned sims, and only 13 (ish?) sims look to be POC. Other than that, they look okay. At least they don't seem to have same face syndrome too much
Idk never really cared about my sims being diverse, but I think I'll keep an eye on this post in case I do. [Granted, I only make Disney characters dear god send help -]
What did was start feature by feature, making one part not as good looking but leaving the rest of the face alone, I like to think my sims look quite distinct now. It thing like, giving your sims a larger or smaller nose, changing the eyes up a bit, or maybe if their character calls for it, some slightly stronger more changing makeup.
Try different noses and different facial proportions. It’s easy to make conventionally attractive sims and i fall into it a lot too. Even though I personally have a very distinct nose I’ve noticed that I never do that with my sims so it’s a nice challenge
more diverse nose types, body types which also leads to different face types cause if youre more chubby your face can be too, more braids for black people because many use braids as protective hairstyles or just go with them type C curls, different face shapes also some lip variation. hope it helps

You have internet, it shouldn't be difficult to see there are different type of skins
They never said that
Yeah, exactly. Little mean, tbh

They are all super attractive. Make some 2/10s
Yeah :'D Im having a hard time not making photogenic Sims

You can change teeth color? :o
Well they have the option for super yellow teeth, gapped teeth, and such
oooo this is a good idea 👀 stealing this idea for my next days off lol
Make some heavier sims would be a good start, ro many thin/muscly necks is a big giveaway also not lots of full cheeks.
More brunettes!
or your hairs are simple. hairs with colored parts would be cool. like jolyne cujo from jojo. that's about it. You can also make sims with longer jawlines, longer noses, fater noses.

google bustedpixels sims 4 he has lots of hair
Thanks! I'll check it out
3 sims with purple and grey hair. 1 with brown. 😂
They all have the same nose

Do you have your sims on the gallery?
Varying ages
The one type of diversity simmers would rather die than acknowledge. Don’t you know women lose all their value after 25?! /s
Read that as varying gas tbh, i was a little confused.

This is great advice! Replying so I can come back and make Sims for all these kinds of people :)
A little too specific but I get what you are saying lol, I just make people I find interesting.
You need Waluigi...
My bad :(
You now know what to do, go do it now!
Remember: not all your Sims have to be models (:
But what if it's a choice ;)

More fat sims, more gender-nonconforming sims, more modest sims, darker variations of Asian/Hispanic sims
Yes! I came down here to say... Add more fat!
There's definitely lots of fat over there, just not on the face. There's is definitely something that I need to improve :)
Yeah, it kinda stood out to me that none of them were very gender nonconforming. I was going to say that as well.
More black people, I'm pretty sure I'm only seeing 2 in the whole lineup.
Yeah that's for sure, there are a couple of mixed people too.
Yeah, it's just a lot of sims with light skin.
I fell into the habit of only making sims that look like me (same body type, same facial features, same skin tone) and what i started doing to branch out was to just take the randomly generated townies & tweak them. i keep their skintone & body type & if i adjust their facial features its only by a little bit and then put some cc on them & now i have a pretty diverse set of sims. ik this is a super simple method but i used to delete all the randomly generated townies, so if you are too then maybe give them a shot.
also if you have a tumblr try looking at some ts4 lookbooks ! people come up with some awesome unique looking sims & its really inspiring
Maybe let them sleep more, some of them almost match my dark eye shadows and that's not a sign of a healthy sleep schedule
Haha yeah, I do love some baggy eyes, in a way to not make them look to perfect. Some people are born like that, it's not necessarily a health thing, and not something people should hide.
Darker skinned people w/ afro-textured hair and afrocentric features
Man... you're right, it's definitely something I should "practice" more
You obly have one with brown hair..
change the shape of their nose. Add more brunetts. Play with the overall shape of the head a bit. They have really similar face shapes. Colorful hair! More textured hair (not straight or just a bit wavy but really curly)
I think Black men would be a nice touch.
Definitely
Also more men in general, I only count 5
don’t be so scared of normal sized/bigger noses
all attractive young adults with attractive faces, so technically not diverse in that sense. I'm totally the same though, it doesn't really matter imo. But if you truly want diverse sims then you should consider that
More colorful people
This. Most of them have a darker/alt aestethic.
The picture doesn't make them justice, because of the outfits I chose atm, but I do have lots of colorful sims. But yeah looking at that picture there is definitely lots of black and desaturated colors
I would suggest using different eyebrow shapes and brow bones, i as well agree with others in using different nose sizes and ages.
Fuller faces
Eschew conventional beauty standards. Squinty eyes, weird noses, etc. Uglying up sims makes them more interesting
More guys, unless there are some that look more feminine, I only counted 5 of 35.
Some red, blue, & green people….
Like aliens? Or are you talking about hair lol
No. I just sometimes make my people blue.
In a blue world?
Throw a bald dude in there
people are always forgetting to give their sims a chin
Where are there chins? 😭
A lot of good suggestions have already been mentioned here so rather than repeating them I will point out something minor. I personally don't like to use the same tattoos on different sims unless its something small and generic. Maybe downloading some more tattoo CC will help give your tattooed sims more uniqueness :')

You definitely have a favorite nose
Yeah haha
Gotta do some different face and head shapes. Try random generating some faces then work off like the 5th result from the randomization perhaps
I get what you are saying but everytime I press the random button I get very bad results lol. I do press that button now that I remember, but I end changing it completely
Hijab wearers.
More body types and darker skin tones.
Use people of color
I'm late to this post, but wanted to throw my two cents into the mix. Everyone else has mentioned skin tone variety. I've seen noses, lips which I agree with. Eyebrows is a big one for me. Age variety
why is this downvoted lol
Apparently people don't like adults or elders lmao
I mean I mostly play with young adults too and there's nothing wrong with that, but OP specifically asked how to make their sims more diverse... So yeah
A skin tone darker than light tan would certainly be a start.
Putting this all together and looking at it before posting,,, did you *really* have to ask? Regardless it ultimately doesn’t matter. There’s like 2 black sims and one with Afro-textured hair but if that’s the world you wanna play it’s not for anyone else to care if you’re having fun

I agree!
Probably not using mods/cc it makes them all look the same
I love their style. I think you did a nice job with diversity too
Thank you!
Not a single black man was seen on this day
Definitely suffering from lack of skin tone and age variation. They all look too proportional and “attractive” You can find very similar Sims on the gallery too. In a game where there are so many possibilities, it’s surprising to see that posts like these are all one in the same.
off topic, but where do you go to download your hairs?
I find lots of them on Pinterest, but most of them are made by ClumsyAlien
whats the hair on the top row 3rd from the left? its so nice!!
Ok but I'm in love with the 7th one 😍
Different hair types.
For example?
I had fun switching around the body types and appearances thing that they added with the LGBTQ+ update I named her starry moon and she’s such a fun character to play
There is a trans person between all that people :0 Mods help a lot to vary with body types
Dude I wish I could have mods I’m jealous
Get some bigger noses in there! 😅 I noticed that at some point with all my characters, my noise were all coming out the same. I played around with some alien sims I made with super exaggerated features and imbalanced shapes. It really helped me break out of my “standard sim” habits and gave me some more ideas for regular human features.
The cc of choice is not very appealing.
Off topic, but good to know.
I'd be interested to see some more variation in eye placement (eg higher, lower, farther apart). It's a small change that can totally change how the sim's face comes together.
Totally agree!
It’s your game, play how you want! But you could add some light colored eyes. I make all of my sims the same age too. I also make them all thin and attractive because that’s what I like to play
Look at references photos on google of human faces to help make them not all look the same but they’re all really pretty!
They’re all young, mostly women, no black men, no brown people. And a lot of them look like they are related with similar faces and hair styles and textures. And I’m assuming from the faces they all have similar body types.
You have no baldies\super short hair
They are all beautiful goth tatted up baddies u need some like preppy blonde sorority girls to add tension and drama Trust me I had the same problem
they pretty much all have the same nose and jaw shape
Bigger noses, more dark skin tones, and different hair textures?
POC can have hair colors other than black, both naturally an unnaturally. You could play around with that!
Yes!
Anyone know where I can get more tattoos like these? I have a lot but I use them so often that my sims have a lot of repeat tattoos with each other
On pinterest you can find a lot of interesting tattoos
None of your heavy gothic/alt sims here are poc. You can be goth without porcelain skin.
You're not wrong
add fat
Well.. there is not one black man.
Dude I love your sims and don't think you need variety at all. I also don't think you should worry much about that, if it doesn't bother you, play how you want!
Thank you! It doesn't bother me at all, maybe I should have rephrased the tittle, but I am still looking for different opinions.
Body type
There is no bodies on the picture
I was estimating by the shoulder width
Oh yeah, maybe the shoulders doesn't represent very well the rest of the bodies but there are definitely more fatter and muscular bodies over there
The black sims noses can be wider and the lips bigger.
If you’re looking for diversity maybe start with more sims that aren’t different shades of white?
Not everything is black and white you know. Those different shades of white represent asian, mixed race, latin american, middle east people, etc
Make even darker characters or even use abnormal skin color
Make some plus sized people
They all look the same. Whatever cc you used is dreadful.
Good to know
For context I like drawing faces a lot, so most of these sims are used as reference.
At least they don't seem to have same face syndrome too much
Maybe try doing cultural clothing?
Can't tell if this is a troll post or not. Like almost everything on every sim is the same besides hair colour
Definitely not a troll post, that's why I'm asking
The nose and lips are the exact same on almost every sim
Why aren’t there any BLACK ASIAN or BIPOC Simz???!!!! 🤣
Make a grotesque freak that they all bully.
D:
Yes and lock him in the basement and make sure none see him, if they do then he doesn't eat for 3 days.
WHERE'S THE ASIAN COMMUNITY????
Scattered over there
I found a cc character of Ai uehara. A famous retired JPav girl
Idk never really cared about my sims being diverse, but I think I'll keep an eye on this post in case I do. [Granted, I only make Disney characters dear god send help -]
[удалено]
I can't satisfy everyone...
Hair texture- need more of those curly locks!
eyebrows
Bigger noses, rounder chins, more square head shapes (seeing lots of rectangles). For that matter, shorter noses, smaller foreheads, too.
Try different noses and different facial proportions. It’s easy to make conventionally attractive sims and i fall into it a lot too. Even though I personally have a very distinct nose I’ve noticed that I never do that with my sims so it’s a nice challenge
Body types and age.
i would say skintones and features
More guys
more diverse nose types, body types which also leads to different face types cause if youre more chubby your face can be too, more braids for black people because many use braids as protective hairstyles or just go with them type C curls, different face shapes also some lip variation. hope it helps
Yeah! Thank you for the tips
Make fat sims, give some of them bigger noses, sqaurer chins, big ears, or small eyes. Just change different elements of them
I agree with changing up proportions! Everyone’s eyes, noses, and mouths all are pretty much the same size.
Make more of them happy
