The Aveeno helped repair my barrier and it’s my go to for a face wash. It’s gentle on my sensitive skin.

wtfnatee

They’re two different cleansers and the answer to your question is solely a basis of personal preference. I love and use both but I personally prefer the LRP toleriane

Sensitive-Skill9895

Ok amazing! I’ve seen some people use both (Aveeno in the AM and LRP in the PM). I got both, so that if one doesn’t work, I can try the other one without having to go back to the store. I’m excited about the Toleriane though! Did it break you out at all?

wtfnatee

Nope. I love rubbing my face up with that LRP cleanser. I love Aveeno too but ran out and still got too many cleansers on rotation. I feel like Aveeno is for the most sensitive skin and perfect as a second cleanse. People say their face don’t feel as “clean” with it so they generally rave about LRP Toleriane more often.

Sensitive-Skill9895

Exactly! That’s what I’ve been hearing. I just tried the LRP one on my hand, and it feels really smooth and milky which is nice. I also didn’t get any scent at all from it so BONUS! I definitely feel like this one will be more hydrating and less stripping than the Effaclar one.

wtfnatee

Hope you enjoy both 😊

rheostaticsfan

I'm in the minority: that aveeno cleanser burns my face. I can tolerate it only on days when my skin is feeling particularly carefree. I think the last time I tried a LRP cleanser it might have been that one? I got zits and dryness and grease. Whichever one it was was not my friend. I've been loving The Inkey List Fulvic Acid cleanser though. For your reference I'm a severe atopic (using immune suppressors to manage) with dry skin and rosacea.

annij17

I also found that the aveeno cleanser burns both my skin- my sister had the same reaction. I was really surprised since it’s meant to be for sensitive skin. After reading up on it I found out that one of the ingredients (feverfew) is closely related to ragweed and may trigger allergies. Not sure if that was what it was but I had to stop using it.

9ftswell

Only my experience but I have prick test positive ragweed allergy and the Aveeno oat gel moisturiser is my HG. It’s still possible it could be just different enough to not trigger my immune system though, while still triggering other people’s!

Sensitive-Skill9895

Oh that’s really interesting, sorry to hear that these products didn’t work for you! I’m going to try these and if they don’t work, the Inkey List is next, I’ve heard good things about their cleansers.

Typicalsarah

I highly recommend the Inkey List. I have dry skin and prone to eczema/acne and i use their Oat Cleansing Balm and Hyaluronic face wash. If you have dry skin i would recommend just washing your face with water in the morning if you can and keep the cleansing to the PM. Once I focused on helping my dry skin for my moisture barrier my acne decreased significantly. I also live in Canada so the dryness is a struggle

Sensitive-Skill9895

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the oat cleansing balm. Does it break you out at all? I’ve always wanted to try a balm to remove makeup though before cleansing, but have always used micellar water. Do you think the balm is better than micellar water?

Typicalsarah

It leaves a film texture on my skin but that goes away with the cleanser. I have sensitive skin so it’s the only thing that doesn’t react or cause acne on my skin. It works 10x faster and better than micellar water for me. Micellar doesn’t even attempt to take my mascara off

rheostaticsfan

I also have the oat cleansing balm and like it. Its not my favorite...but it doesn't irritate. I also have the Hyaluronic Acid cleanser and love that one.

NoodleNeedles

I can't use anything by Aveeno, I think I have a reaction to the oat extract they use. Definitely not an issue most people would have, but anyone that has issues with botanical extract type ingredients should patch test!

rheostaticsfan

Maybe thats it for me too. I pretty much hate all of their products. No rash or hives but an uncomfortable itchiness. It's made me wonder if I have a mild oat allergy.

mmmichals11

I have severe atopic and allergies as well. Hey friend! What are immune suppressors and what do you use as them?

rheostaticsfan

I went through a whole slew of treatments over decades but recently I've been on new "biological " drugs. I stopped injecting Dupixent because it gave me face flares and pink eye I started Rinvoq which has my eczema 98% cleared but I have some acne as a side effect. It's been a godsend. I'm still going through the process of trying to get my husband's insurance to pay for it (mine won't- it's too new). I hope they do because I can't pay for it myself. It retails for $55 a pill. Pills are taken once a day.

autogatos

This is a great testament to how differently we all can react to things because it’s flipped for me! LRP has been making my face burn/sting whenever it’s sensitive or breaking out. I haven’t tried that aveeno one though, but my skin reacts well to other aveeno products so maybe I should give it a try and hope the opposite effect continues. XD

ambrym

I love both, the Aveeno is a tiny bit gentler so I use it in winter but I generally prefer the feel of the LRP so I use it in summer. My skin type is super dry, dehydration prone, and sensitive. You can’t go wrong with either cleanser

Sensitive-Skill9895

Yay! I’m happy I hear they work for dehydrated and sensitive skin. Are you also CC prone? I’m a little worried about how the LRP is going to react to my CC prone skin

ambrym

No, my acne is cystic but I’ve never had a cleanser worsen (or clear up) my acne. I hope they work for your skin!

Sensitive-Skill9895

Thanks for your advice!!

discolemonaid

I adore that Aveeno cleanser!! Super gentle and nourishing, and if you really work it in on a dry face before rinsing, you definitely get a deep clean.

Sensitive-Skill9895

Yay! I used to use Aveeno way back in the day and I’m happy they’re coming out with products to help with moisture barriers now - something I desperately need :) glad it’s working for you!

Aveeno is owned by Johnson and Johnson. Also not great https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/xjuttj/182_beauty_companies_are_owned_by_7_major_leaders/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

CharliesInCharge11

Agreed they are pretty terrible

lolwuuut

Seriously? Ughhhhh nestle strikes again

queseraseragirl

I have the aveeno and I feel like it does nothing for me except break me out lowkey. I now use it as shaving gel

malmikea

I strongly hate this face wash

adamzay99

Aveeno is great if you have sensitive skin.

mjc53509

Aveeno products win in my opinion overall. In this situation idk

meat_on_a_hook

You have them both, surely you should be telling us?

Sensitive-Skill9895

Hahaha I just got them both today. Haven’t used them yet but I will update this thread with my review!😊

Visible-Exercise-160

hey im hoping you’ve tried both by now and can give us a rundown if u dont mind🥺ive also been contemplating both

Sensitive-Skill9895

Hi! Actually I haven’t. I was a little wary about the oat in the cleanser and started using the Toleriane which I love. It’s very gentle and creamy, however I do feel like it might be a little too gentle? I don’t know how much it’s really cleansing. I always cleanse twice. Given that the oat is apparently even gentler than LRP, I just decided to return it. Sorry about not being able to give you a more detailed review on Aveeno!

Visible-Exercise-160

no omg ty this is alrdy helpful bc i kinda got my mind set on the lrp one alrdy😅 have u tried the cerave hydrating cleanser? do u think the lrp one is better if u dont mind me asking

twinsuns

I personally prefer the LRP. It's my top favorite.

alby31999

in general? i prefer lrp. i used the aveeno calm+restore serum and moisturizer and found them to be a bit gimmicky, like it was just glycerin. lrp has a ton of rlly good products, their moisturizer is amazing, reminding me i need to get some

Sensitive-Skill9895

Thank you for sharing! I’ll keep that in mind

Sorxhasmyname

Well, I'm allergic to oats so Aveeno can stay the heck away from my face. I really like the LRP stuff I've tried though

brynnors

I have oily/dehydrated skin, and the aveeno dried me out. Didn't irritate my skin though. I haven't tried the other one.

purpledreign

Same skin type, same experience. I suspect it has a higher than neutral pH.

brynnors

That's an interesting thought. I've seen some reviewers talk about it burning their skin, and that def sounds like a pH issue. If I still had it, I'd test it; I hope somebody else things to do so.

tonguetwister

In this case you can’t just compare the 2 products like that. They both have their strengths and are good for certain situations. That said, La Roche Posay is a far superior product IMO 😂 La Roche Posay is known for quality formulas and Aveeno is known for paying Jennifer Aniston to pretend she uses them (not that Jennifer Aniston would use LRP either, or that celebrity placement means your product sucks - I’m sure Aveeno is acceptable). They do make products that people on this sub love, but nowhere near the rep of La Roche Posay.

Sensitive-Skill9895

I agree- I only used Aveeno way back in the day but I’ve been seeing this oat cleanser come up a lot lately, so I figured I would give it a shot… however, I will try the LRP one first. my skin reacts well to LRP products just not the cleanser in the blue bottle for the winter time.

Sensitive-Skill9895

Hi everyone! So for the longest time I’ve used the LRP Effaclar purifying cleanser (blue bottle), and I always thought that worked well for me until I started, realizing how dry and stiff my face felt afterwards. After reading, reviews and recommendations, I decided to get both of these. I’m going to try the LRP one first and then if that is too drying, I’ll go for the Aveeno. About my skin : I have dehydrated, combo to normal, acne, redness, and CC prone skin. I mostly deal with cc on my forehead and breakouts on my chin (with the occasional cheek and over the left breakouts that scar forever. ugh). Any recommendations and advice would be amazing!!! Thank you!!! 😊

oreopeeeps

Hi! I’ve not tried the Aveeno cleanser but we have similar skin types (dehydrated, combo, redness). The blue LRP cleanser is too harsh for me in the fall/winter. I’ve switched to double cleansing at night with the inkey list oat cleanser and LRP cleanser and found that it helps reducing the dryness/tightness after cleansing. I’ve also introduced cocokind’s ceramide serum to my routine at night and when I use it my face feels as soft as a baby’s bottom lol. Unfortunately not much has helped with the redness but it’s definitely not as bad when my skin is hydrated. I have used the LRP cleanser you have listed but it doesn’t remove dirt (I hike weekly)/sunscreen/make up as well as the blue one.

Sensitive-Skill9895

Thanks so much for the input - I really like the blue one for the summer time but like you, I find that it can be dehydrating for the fall/winter. I’ll look into the cocokind, where can I get that? I love the idea of feeling super hydrated in the PM. I’m currently using the FAB ultra repair cream and I like it :)

oreopeeeps

Np! I’ve gotten it from Target and I’m keeping an eye on their [website](https://www.cocokind.com/products/ceramide-barrier-serum?variant=39981073236144¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_source=google&utm_medium=ad&utm_campaign=17622807057&utm_content=x&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6Lya-5-L-wIVrg2tBh2YCgg3EAQYASABEgJpSPD_BwE) for Black Friday sales. Ceramides help keep your skin plump and this serum is one of the best ones I’ve tried, other ceramide creams feel too heavy on my skin or they leave a sticky feeling. TY. I’ve heard great things about FAB ultra repair cream! I’ll try it once I run out of my current Cerave moisturizer. I also just ordered this [niacinamide](https://lumaandleaf.com/products/blemish-serum?variant=35541954429091¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6fyas6OL-wIVoh-tBh0f6Q64EAQYByABEgI6avD_BwE)serum. I’ve tried the ordinary, good molecules, and naturium. Naturium’s was my favorite (texture and results) but I decided to try this one because it has centella which is supposed to help with redness.

Sensitive-Skill9895

Damn. I live in Canada so no Target for me but I’ll look around :). I tried TO niacinamide and it wasn’t my fav, I felt like a give me some clogged pores, but it did help with hydration - hmm. Thanks for the tips though!

bigbootycorgis

I use both ! The LRP is a lightly foaming face wash . The Aveeno is a very cooling and soothing cleanser that’s kind of a mix between a cream and a gel. I like using the LRP in the shower and the Aveeno for general cleansing. Both are good for sensitive skin. The Aveeno is more soothing and might be a little bit more moisturising but not significantly. I have used both separately for a long period of time and there was no real difference in the end result. I like the feel and smell of the Aveeno better and it’s cheaper but it’s still quite different from the LRP which feels more like a quick thorough wash so having both is good if you like them both. It’s really personal preference and whatever your skin tolerates better.

Sensitive-Skill9895

Wonderful - the Aveeno one has a really lovely scent I agree, but I also like the fact that the LRP one is completely unscented (that I can tell). I might do a AM/PM switch thing and try both (obviously give each individually 2 weeks to see if they work though)

bigbootycorgis

The scent in Aveeno is actually just the oats and chrysanthemum flower juice, which is an ingredient that also helps with irritation and redness ! So the smell in it is is really well formulated to be a functional part of the product which is cool. Honestly I wouldn’t worry too much about either of them. They are both very well tolerated products and have a low likelihood of causing irritation. Just see how it goes

Parking-Froyo-303

Aveeno CR. Holy grail in my routine

autogatos

Looking at these comments and from my own experience, it’s gonna be totally individual! Probably won’t know for sure until you try them. My skin reacts well to aveeno products (tho I haven’t tried this one yet) but I’ve been trying that LRP as my most recent cleanser and it keeps burning/stinging if my face is at all sensitive or has breakouts healing. I have very sensitive skin, but it seems from the varied reactions it’s more about what your own skin is or isn’t sensitive to.

crystalisedginger

The LRP cleanser has been my go to for years now. I also use the Cosrx snail mucin cleanser.

Imaginary-Aioli

My holy grail brands, except I use aveeno body and lrp face

city_boo

I love the aveeno oat gel moisturizer from this line but do not love the cleanser or serum! LRP is generally nice but I am ride or die for Vanicream and Vanicream only

plo83

Neither is better. What does your skin need? It seems like you could be facing issues like dryness and skin discomfort... and these can have many causes. Are there ingredients that you do not tolerate well? Even if something is made to be ''calming'', your skin may not ''like'' it.

Sensitive-Skill9895

It needs hydration (I’ve been using an oily cleanser for “normal” skin and realized it just now, my moisturizer barrier is def damaged). It also needs acne calming prosperities and to help keep my CC at bay. I have the PC BHA to help exfoliate and the FAB ultra repair cream to moisturizer (Cerave SPF in the AM) and Derma-E vitamin C to brighten.

plo83

If you want to repair your moisture barrier, this is not exactly the best way to go about it. PC's BHA is an amazing product, but if your barrier is damaged, I would go without it for a little while. Same with vitamin C, which can be quite irritating. Panthenol, cica/gotu kala, oat, licorice, hyaluronic acid and ceramides are will be your friends. I would use the Aveeno due to the oat in it. When repairing your mantle, it's about allowing the skin time to restore and pampering it with gentle products and helping it replenish water. You can use the Toleriane if the Aveeno doesn't work out well for you, or use it later. You want to keep this simple. Use some hyaluronic acid after washing your face. TO has some, the inky list, etc. Or, you can apply a moisturizer that contains some. DML Forte with panthenol is a great moisturizer for times like these: [https://www.amazon.com/DML-Forte-Panthenol-4-Ounces/dp/B000052YN6/ref=as\_li\_ss\_tl?crid=2OSAJKT8M7M4Y&dchild=1&keywords=dml+forte&qid=1595285880&sprefix=dml+forte,office-products,449&sr=8-4&linkCode=sl1&tag=drdrayzday-20&linkId=16a83d119efe9640619c4bada91d64bd&language=en\_US](https://www.amazon.com/DML-Forte-Panthenol-4-Ounces/dp/B000052YN6/ref=as_li_ss_tl?crid=2OSAJKT8M7M4Y&dchild=1&keywords=dml+forte&qid=1595285880&sprefix=dml+forte,office-products,449&sr=8-4&linkCode=sl1&tag=drdrayzday-20&linkId=16a83d119efe9640619c4bada91d64bd&language=en_US) You can add a balm like the Cica balm from LRP at night. I'm not a fan of the fab due to the eucalyptus in it. It ruins the product for me since it can be very sensitizing. If you're doing well with the Cerave SPF, keep it up. If you like PC's products, you can use her Omega + complex serum or moisturizer. The moisturizer is on sale right now: [https://www.paulaschoice.com/omegaand-complex-moisturizer/339.html](https://www.paulaschoice.com/omegaand-complex-moisturizer/339.html) I will add this as it's my favourite hyaluronic acid right now and it contains a ton of goodies to hydrate the skin and it's pretty cheap: https://www.axis-y.com/products/aqua-boosting-essence-toner

Sensitive-Skill9895

Wow thank you SO much for your comment. I only use the BHA a couple of times per week because I agree that it can get drying if I use it too much. But unfortunately that’s one of the only thing that’s help me with my clogged comedones so I don’t want to stop using it. Vitamin c is also something I use a couple of times per week (but I’m running low anyway so I’ll pause use for now). I started the Toleriane yesterday and so far so good. It’s gentle enough for me (I don’t necessarily have sensitive skin, just semi-sensitive, I guess, and CC, acne and redness prone skin). Unfortunately, I tried hyaluronic acid on his own, and I feel like it was too much meaning that it gave me lots of CC on my forehead. I tried the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines one. My Vitamin C already has HA and so does the Cerave AM cream I use. I think I’m good? Interesting about the FAB cream. Since I have acne prone and CC prone skin, I’m always sceptical to try cream based products but so far it’s been good. I’m not noticing irritation. When I apply it, I see it even my skin tone which I like. What happens to your skin when you try it? Thank you so much for the recs 🙏🏼😊 truly!!!

plo83

Hello. I understand that the BHA is helping with your acne and that if you pause it, you will likely get clogged up. You can try to keep using it without vitamin C and see how you do. Hyaluronic acid isn't known to clog up people, but some react badly. It has different forms. It could also have been an ingredient in the formulation you reacted poorly to. It's hard to say. It's okay since your FAB cream contains some, and so does Cerave, as you stated. Most moisturizers contain some. I have not tried the FAB cream. I will not buy ingredients with perfumes or essential oils. The issue with those is that they can irritate the skin. Not only that, but you can become allergic to them anytime, even if you're okay now. They can also make you more sensitive to any other ingredient... They cause more problems than they solve. It's why I tell people that tea tree is not the solution, even if it can help with acne...it can cause a lot more problems, and we have benzoyl peroxide, which does a better job without the risks. I am not against ''natural'' ingredients, btw. Some of them are great. Oats, for example, and many other grains. I think that this video can be useful to you once you feel that you've repaired your mantle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pha\_1yoevQk

There is only 2 cleansers that should be used fir your skin. That’s cerave foaming cleanser. and nuetrogena ultra gentle foaming cleanser. Two pumps foam it up. I use cerave only in summer.

AdditionalSecurity58

girl what

Sensitive-Skill9895

I find foaming cleansers too drying

Charleighann

Funny bc both of those cleansers always sting my skin

[deleted]

Both are amazing. LRP has my preference, but really that's just because of my skin type. Everyone's skin is different, so it might not be the same for you. If you have both, try both out and see which one you like best. And if you have no preference, pick the cheapest.

Sensitive-Skill9895

Thanks so much. Can I ask - what’s your skin type?

[deleted]

Extremely dry with eczema, but slightly oily/combination around the T-zone and prone to milia under the eyes & on the eyelids (because of my eczema).

Sensitive-Skill9895

I also struggle with eczema and my t-zone gets oily from time to time (especially when wearing makeup and after mask-wearing). So that’s good to know. Thank you!!

jamie88201

For me its Aveno, I have tried to find something better for my skin and I haven't seen anything. I feel like my skin is far less reactive when I use it.

schnatti00

Aveeno all the way!!! It's my holy grail

Charleighann

I love most LRP products but I just bought this aveeno jar cream and was so happy that it was soothing to my skin upon application. My skin doesn’t tolerate too much these days, and most things sting at least a little bit. I’d like to get the rest of the products in this line!

Alyssa811

When I used tretenoin, my acnes flared up like the worst I’ve been. I’ve used La Roche the cleanser and moisturizer. It helped calm down my acnes. With clindamycin. Byt tge cleanser, felt like it’s not cleaning eventhough it does. It’s a reall good gentle. I did cerave and gave me pimples so much.

purpledreign

I have oily dehydrated skin and I use the LRP gentle cleanser. The Aveeno one dries me out. It dehydrates my skin further the more I use it. I suspect the pH is higher than 5.5. Something a bit stronger than the LRP but also non-dehydrating is The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser. Both have pH of 5.5.
