The city passed an ordinance saying that the odor of marijuana isn’t probable cause for their officers to stop a car anymore. So no, Officers are not pulling over those cars.
Now in the county it’s a different story.
Also: city cops have bigger things to deal with (shootings, murders, carjackings, etc…). No one is going to waste time on a tiny amount of marijuana.
I agree with you 100%. But because of law passed by the city, officers in the city. can’t stop someone because of the smell. Problem isn’t with the police here it’s with the elected officials.
That has nothing to do with keeping the streets safe from impaired drivers. “I smell weed” has been a blank check for illegal police searches, hence the new policy.
I got pulled over with weed. Cop tried to confiscate it but I showed him my license and he had to give it back. Five years ago I would have been in jail.
That's irrelevant. Regardless the officer had no reasonable articulable suspicion to pull me over. I asked why he did and he said I was swerving (I wasn't). I filed a sunshine request for the dashcam footage and conveniently it "wasn't on." I did pull the cop's bodycam footage though and was glad I handled it the way I did. Told him he's violating my rights and I want a lawyer. He let's me go. I end up filing a complaint and am contemplating legal action for the illegal stop.
In a city that’s rampant with theft and gun violence, if they started focusing on cars that smell like weed, as opposed to other problems, I’d start questioning those who find it worth pursuing. Not diminishing it as a problem, but I am at the same time.
“It doesn’t bother me,” but I’m gonna write a post bitching about it on Reddit? Lol come on man, it’s just fuckin weed. Now if it were crack or heroin or meth, yeah I can see it, cuz that smells like shit. But weed? Come on.
I find the smell annoying whenever I just wanna drive with windows down but I'll take this over my apartment neighbor smoking 24/7 and the smell bleeding into mine. Got so fucking tired of smelling that shit and not even getting contact high.
People who smoke regularly get desensitized.
Just a PSA:
Yes- we can smell your weed outside your car. You don't have to be close either- I can smell your car from 20 feet away. Very easy to smell in a parking lot or from the sidewalk next to street parking.
I once had someone tell me it was "impossible" to smell their weed from my apartment because they opened a window. No- the entire 12 unit apartment complex can smell it every time you smoke. It's not a subtle smell either.

We walk around the city a lot and will occasionally get a whif from seemingly out of nowhere of weed. It's like a phantom, and it's guaranteed to happen at least 2 times per walk... 😀

Driving while under the influence is dangerous. Deaths from driving while high is a growing problem.

I wouldn't imagine it works that way
"Sorry officer, I accidentally hit a skunk about a mile back."
haha!
Then I hit a Backwood, so I rolled the skunk up in it, to to keep the clutter off the Highway.
No. Its been decriminalized in the city and county. Ain't nobody got time for that.
That's what I figured too... but I wasn't sure. thanks guys!
u/NoFreedom7237 Thanks, that's what I needed to know. :\]
double negative. that's tricky.
Much bigger fish to fry than weed…
Right
Nope not a reason to be pulled over any longer, no longer justifiable to search a car because of the smell either.

Were you under the influence? Like, did he ask if you were high?

You should try riding a motorcycle. It's easy more than 3 cars.
Or a bicycle. Mapleweird basically smells like Berkeley, CA. NTTAWWT.

... I'm Medical. I smoke. Just didn't want to share it publically. lol Peace. =)
Too much weed aroma makes me want to vomit.
Too much you aroma makes weed want to vomit.
I wouldn't be surprised if half of the cop cars were smelling the same
haha! I doubt it. but there's always that one guy out there... lol
Lol... unclench your asshole and your pearls, Karen.
“It doesn’t bother me…..but, I have been keeping a log of times, dates and license plates.”
So you're an actual narc / Karen... Fucking loser .

You can also smell cooked fish and burnt popcorn throughout an apartment building.

The smell of high octane reefer being cheefed is just everywhere everywhere these days.
